New England forever. You never wind up in negative temps (or very, very seldom), and it’s never 100+ (or very, very seldom). Plus, fall and spring are actually seasons instead of just being like 2 weeks.
@DunkinDecaf but what about the polar vortex? In one of my last winters before we moved west, it was like crazy cold for the longest stretch because of the polar vortex, as the news seemed to like saying so much.
@DunkinDecaf and don't you get crazy freak snow storms?
I much prefer my predicable weather rather than freak storms, crazy thunderstorm's, tornadoes, earthquakes and hot all year round. I just sometimes wish winter wasn't so long but it does make you appreciate the Summers more
Me 33 DH 41 TTC since 2016 Due: October 12, 2018 Location: Ontario, Canada
@pumpkinpancake the polar vortex hasn’t gotten Boston so badly the past couple years. The year DD1 was born it was bad but I was curled in my house in oblivious new mommy snuggles so I didn’t mind.
@chyvie yep, that one I’ll concede. But I actually kinda love the freak snow storms. Shoveling is a good excuse to drink beer and listen to Harry Potter audiobooks while H watches the kids. I expect I would love them less if I still had a commute.
@chyvie yea, the northeast gets some blizzards, but you usually have 5-7 days warning of those coming so you prepare, and they usually arent that big a deal. No earthquakes, tornados, fires etc... Thunderstorms sometimes but those are just rain with a light show.
I love being in northern New England! I mean I have a strong dislike for the snow but honestly it isnt that bad.. they usually have a good idea of when a nor'easter is coming and for the most part they're not as bad as everyone panics they'll be. Summers are usually nice, spring is amazing and fresh and fall is absolutely gorgeous and perfect!!
Yeah I’ll still take blizzards over earthquakes and fires and tornadoes! I do sincerely hate New England winters despite living here my entire life, but I can’t give up having a full four seasons. Fall in New England is glorious. And New Englanders just love to bitch about the weather and their commutes. It’s just who we are.
@chyvie don’t forget the ones even farther North! We go from one extreme in the winter -40C and then back to 40C in the summer months with the crazy humidity. Today was gross and so glad that I have a/c now, but definitely remember that -40 is just around the corner again and don’t complain too much.
Dh and I have seriously discussed moving to Canada instead of raising our kids in this shitty political climate, but I’m not sure I can handle the coldest of the cold weather up there. We do have relatives in Toronto.
@HoosOnFirst look into the West Coast. Depending on the area, they tend not to get super cold, and hardly get snow. Don’t move here (Edmonton) we usually hit -35C a few times per winter, and end up with at least 1.5 - 3 feet of snow. About all we have going for us weather-wise is low humidity.
So I know we did the whole kid v kid free wedding debate already, but I just got invited to one and I’m salty. It’s at the end of Oct. (EDD Oct 2). I wasn’t sure we would go having a NB and all, but now I’m definitely not going and I’m irritated. I know it’s not my wedding and therefore not my choice, but I’m pissed that it’s basicall been decided for me because I will have a NB.
@HoosOnFirst Nooo don’t leave us!! We’ll get rid of this orange moron in a couple years and then we can claw back to happy normal America. I definitely also have president envy with Trudeau in the great white north though.
I LOL every time I see or hear one of H’s ultra conservative relatives saying the media is just claiming everyone hates Trump. Some people seriously believe their own nonsense. Only 2.5 ish more years...I hope.
I'm glad to hear you ladies don't like Trump. I find myself watching the train wreck on CNN and shaking my head thinking how do Americans support this guy! Im tjinking If he gets elected again then we know for sure the Russians have hacked the election!

@kiwi2628 Going to work with literal feet of snow on the ground has been the biggest learning curve for me moving to the north. What do you mean I'm supposed to go outside and be an adult when there's clearly snow present mother fucking everywhere?
Central NY here, I actually like the winter I'm one of those. Plus I'm literally dying in this heat wave. I just want to live in the 70s. If you can swing it next go around ladies Spring due dates are a dream. I LOVED being pregnant in the winter, you carry around your own personal heater.

When I moved from nyc to Albany all my friends we’re like “it’s going to be so cold” it was a few dregeees cooler and it actually snowed less than downstate. Love the capital region for weather.
Also I passed my glucose test yesterday and my friend (who I did prenatal yoga with last week) had her baby last night. I’m only 10 weeks behind her. EEeeek!
DS woke up in such a mood this morning. He's being such a terror and we've only been up an hour. He's smashed his banana into the floor my mom just washed last night, dumped the dogs full water dish on the floor, and pulled the table cloth and the contest of the table off and onto the floor while we were trying to clean up the flood from the dogs dish.
Now he's sitting there quietly eating goldfish crackers. Ugh I hope this isnt how the rest of the day is going to go!
@sammierose464 What did the Canadians you spoke with say? I think our biggest issues right now is how his actions affect us, especially these tariff taxes. We are so close to the USA and we both rely on each other for so many resources and commodities that it just doesn't make sense to start a Tariff tax war with one of his biggest allies. A lot of Canadians are boycotting going to the states for vacations, shopping USA brands all in result of this. It isn't good for anyone.

@chyvie at lot were just flabbergasted that it happened and surprised. At that point he hadn't done anything yet, so there wasn't a whole lot to say. Just lots of "i can't believe they elected him". I was in the Toronto area (Mississauga and Welland).
ETA: I don't think most of America agrees with the tariffs (at least those who understand economics), including people in his own party.
@sammierose464 yea it was a HUGE shock. We understood the situation wasn't the greatest with the candidates you had to select from, but to allow such a clown who has a past record of bankrupting businesses and all his womanizing and hateful words just didn't make sense to most us Canadians.
Ontarians just went through a similar dramatic election for our premier. Our choices were slim pickings and most of the people wanted change from the Liberal party who had power for so long. Unfortunately Toronto had a clown of a mayor Rob Ford who got caught smoking crack during his time in office. It was a covered by a lot of media and the laughing stock of a lot of comedy shows. Well we ended up electing the brother of this clown, Doug Ford an Progressive Conservative who ended up wining the majority and bumping the Liberals to having only 7 seats and losing their official party status! It was a crazy result. Unfortunately the big cities and higher density areas did vote for Liberal, but the remainder of rural Ontario voted for Progressive Conservative. Which seems to be what happened in the US.
Within his first 10 days in office He has already taken away a well thought out Sex education curriculum that was hreleased in 2016 (after not being updated since 2008) This new one taught children about sexual identities and families with same sex couples, sexual consent, cyber bullying, and social media predictors etc. You know things that are more current than 2008 times when ICQ just came out! His reasons was the religious parent groups didn't have enough say on how their kids are being taught this information, but yet if they didn't agree with the curriculum then they could pull their kids out of the class. We can't hold back teaching our kids this information in this social media driven and more advanced day because some of the kids parent's don't agree with it. So his way of fixing it was to remove the curriculum and to revert back to the 2008 one for the new school year until they come up with a new one, which could take years and more tax payers dollars!!
He also removed programs which had incentive for making buildings/ houses more environmentally friendly. This in turn removed funding for schools who desperately needed to renovate to remove asbestos, and mold etc It also screwed me personally because we used more environmentally friendly fixtures and windows in our new house and now don't get the credit for it!
Sorry for that long rant. Because I work from home I rarely get to talk politics! LOL

I would never consider it except now that I have a daughter, I honestly am not psyched to have her grow up in a country that is really starting to do some hateful policy things to women specifically. It's a WHOLE 'NOTHER level of shit these last 2 years, and some of it may very well outlast Trump with things like Kavanaugh. I hate that fact that I even need to worry about it. Like, what is my daughter has an accidental pregnancy at 16 or something? And conservatives by that point have stripped women of most of their reproductive options and/or public assistance safety nets? THAT KINDA STUFF. Other than this, I know I can outlast the Trump presidency itself. And sadly if I only had sons, I wouldn't worry as much cuz ya know, the Patriarchy is strong...
Oh and even after Trump is done, I believe there will be some longstanding damage in what his campaign did to normalize some terrible fascist and racist behavior.
I try to remember that I have lived through both Reagan and Bush (and even some Clinton welfare reform nonsense), but this just feels... different.
@HoosOnFirst oh, this is a whole new universe compared to previous republican presidents. I don’t even think Trump is really a republican anyway. But yeah... I was so happy to see the Bush 43 presidency end, but I’d give almost anything to have him in office again over the train wreck that’s currently there. It’s one thing to disagree about policies - I’m sure some of the same stuff would’ve been done under a Rubio or Cruz presidency (well, not the tariffs). But there’s something seriously wrong with Trump, and I truly believe he’s an unwitting agent of the Putin regime. They have something on him, or it’s financial. What a sad turn for our country. As a history/social studies teacher, as into our history and institutions as I am, I mourn.

This. 100%. I don’t have any daughters, but these things still majorly concern me. The things Trump is doing will have effects long beyond his 4 years, unfortunately, and it will be up to the rest of us to try and bring some sense of decency and equality back to this country after he is gone. I’m still trying to hold out a sliver of hope that some miracle might happen to keep Kavanaugh from being confirmed before the midterms, but I know that’s grasping at straws...
@chyvie I was in Nova Scotia in October and the first thing anyone did when they found out we were from the US was talk about Trump. We spoke to a lot of people who refuse to go to the States, lots of musicians who will no longer play festivals and so on. It's so sad. My brother and his new wife just got back from B.C. where they went on their honeymoon and my SIL is all about moving. I told her we're in! We live in MI and WI on the lake... we're used to being dumped on w/ lake effect snow and polar vortex temps, we can handle a Canadian winter!
Off (but on) topic: Did you know that if you sent a birth announcement to the White House they will send you a congrats postcard from the current president? I do have one from Obama for DD. Unfortunately DS will not be getting one this year.
And also relatedly, I didn't mention this in the daycare thread, but DD's original daycare provider turned out to be a Trump supporter. Like, has an American flag with Trump's dumb orange face in the middle of the flag flying at her front door. Even as of TODAY. We somehow avoided this because I had a logistical reason we had to switch daycares in spring 2016 but whoa, I don't know how I would have handled. She's a great daycare provider but I couldn't pay her knowing some portion of that went to buying MAGA hats.
And yes, I live in Massachusetts. But I'm in like, "All Lives Matter" whitebread-country. I wish I was in a different town most days... and I'm not even far from @DunkinDecaf and I'm pretty sure her town isn't like this.
@HoosOnFirst That is kind of cool they do that. Yea I wouldn't want my child to have one from Trump! Here the Queen will mail you a birthday card when you turn 100 years old!
