Oh my gosh I'm so glad I'm not the only one bothered by this!!!

  • @DunkinDecaf I don’t even feel like an adult at 30, so I’ll laugh at him when he tries it.

Apparently Z was a monster all day. I’m so glad he stayed the night at my parents!! I definitely remember each toddler year being worse than the last when I was a nanny. At least then I only had them a limited amount. Now I’m stuck with the terrible 2/3/4s. Ugh!!

    E will be 18 on July 24th

  • And then they get to 6 and they talk your ear off... constantly. With the most random shit. Haha

  • @kiwi2628 And they eat everything you put on their plate, happily!
  • Honestly, SO FAR, neither 1, nor 2 were that bad over all. DS is a few days shy of 2 years 9 months. I can definitely tell when he is going through a mental or physical growth spurt though because shit gets rough.

What has been really helpful for us is to always talk to him about what is happening and what will happen. Even with little stuff we still prep him. It’s probably going make his teachers hate us if they aren’t like us, but we’re both teachers and we both need high behavior and emotional need environments and we just find that peeping kids is the best. That being said, I’ve heard 3 is worse...

Also, DS sucks at bedtime, nap time and sleeping in his own bed, so maybe you can’t have it all?
  • So I’m flying to OH tomorrow. Two 2.5 hr flights with a 1 hr layover. Any advice? I’m traveling really light (only a backpack) since I’m staying with my sis and can wear her maternity clothes so I’m hoping that makes my life at least a little easier... How absolutely necessary are compression socks? I don’t really swell much at all so far and would love to avoid them so I can wear my beloved flip flops if at all possible.
  • @jynjery91 JMO/what my doc just told me for my flights - put the backpack in the overhead (have someone do this for you - my doc said absolutely no lifting stuff up) so you have more legroom, tons of water pre and during flight (water is key), a timer to get up and walk every hour on the flight, and compression socks. Swelling is one thing but maintaining blood flow is super important while sitting in that position. It won't be super bad since your flights aren't long, but why risk it? I don't think the socks are too bad, and you can just fold them down during the layover.

@jynjer91 I haven’t flown while pregnant but my younger sister was about 28 weeks pregnant when we flew to San Diego last year. Her OB basically told her the same as above...have someone else lift her baggage to put in the overhead compartment, make sure she’s getting up to walk, and drink plenty of water. However, he told her that compression socks weren’t necessary since it was only a 3-ish hour flight.

  • When I flew earlier in my pregnancy my doc told me the same abode as above. Hydrate and get up to walk every hour. I ended up on a flight with turbulence so getting up to walk turned out to be out of the question so I had read doing ankle rolls and flexing my foot would help blood flow.
  • @elothair I am impressed! I would
not even attempt at this point.
  • @jynjer91 compression socks. Do it. I haven’t been swelling much normally, but I did like crazy on a cross country flight in April (no socks). Just got back from another cross country flight yesterday wearing the socks and no swelling!
  • Got my Tdap today. Now I feel like dirt. According to the doctor I get an “adverse reaction” to shots, not an allergic reaction, so I just need to plan on 2 days to recover anytime I get them. Fun times.

Fair warning - this was us with our twins. 1 was easy, 2 was easy, 3 got a little bit hard, but looking back, it was still pretty easy. 4 sucked... a lot. 5 has me stress eating ice cream almost every night, which is not good for anything, but especially my glucose test on Friday. They said nothing sugary at all tomorrow... pray I survive.

ETA: my mom said 5 was the worst age until teens, so I’m really looking forward to their 6th birthday.

  • @jynjer91 I wore compression socks on both my 1 hr flight at beginning of 2nd tri, and my 3 hr flight at end of 2nd tri. (Definitely lifted my own luggage up, but I'm also used to lifting much heavier overhead). I also walked around once on the short flight, and twice in the second flight per my OBs recommendation. Also I drank water during the flight to stay hydrated, because I feel like shit normally if I don't. I had zero swelling issues on both flights! I'd just wear the socks, planes are cold anyway!

Hugs. The tdap is the worst. I can’t move my arm for a full day, and it always feels like I got a flu for a day or two. Not looking forward to that. I think mine is either Friday or at the appointment after that.

  • @purplegoldfish2 I’m pretty sure 5 will be hell. This kid already has superior logical thinking skills. He’s going to be the devil once that part of his brain develops.
  • RE the TDAP- yes ouch it sore all around where the shot was (got it Tuesday). Got it in my left arm and it made the whole sleeping on your left side difficult the last 2 nights.
  • @halfanewt yeah I’m not looking forward to that for the same reason. Hope it feels better quickly.
  • I need to schedule the appointment for that darn shot. So not looking forward to it. The good thing is, with all these blood draws I've gotten much better about needles...

I have become good about giving blood, but I am NOT good with injections/ vaccinations. I have my TDAP on the 8th and I'm afraid. VERY afraid!

  • @jynjer91 I would wear the socks even if you put them in your bag and just put them on when you get to your seat.  I didn't have swelling until I tried to be a hero and go on a flight without compression gear.

  • So I haven't posted a product spotlight in a while...partly due to laziness and partly due to not know what to post.

What are we still shopping for? Any spotlights we want?
  • @lest12 That’s an awesome idea!

My TDAP injection site hurt for a week.
  • Ugh I’m assuming if my glucose test is today my tdap is not, but must be the best one.
  • STMs - how are you doing vaccinations and shot ma for the older kids? My pedi told me dd needs a flu shot but they won’t be avail until November. Do I need to worry about lo catching anything from her in the first few weeks that I can avoid other than via serious hand washing? Dd is in daycare... ugh.
