  • Opinions please. Friday June 15 is my last day of work. I have no meetings scheduled, everything is wrapped up and honestly I'm probably not going to do anything all day. Should I just take a vacation day? Or does that just make me super lame?
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @runsomewhere I would totally take a vacation day and just relax. Maybe go to a pool and float with a smoothie haha

  • @runsomewhere same.. I spelled it wrong like 4 times once before I got the tag right.

also- does not taking the vacation day mean you get one extra day with baby? I wouldn’t take the day off if it meant you had less maternity leave.
  • @lindsayleigh1989 that sounds fabulous!

  • @runsomewhere what’s one more day off lol if you can do it!

@hillbillywife nope, not related to maternity leave it would just be a normal PTO day.

The 4 weeks I'm taking off before my due date are a use it or lose it California thing.

I'm getting embarrassed of my laziness over here  :/
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @runsomewhere I say go for it then! Its like the last day of school. Nothing productive will come from that day so you might as well find an excuse to not go if you can
  • @wildtot thank you for supporting my laziness lol

@hillbillywife it totally feels like the last day of school!

@runsomewhere I would do it. Enjoy another day :)
  • Quick wtf I want to facepalm so hard everytime someone posts fake articles on Facebook. Like seriously, can you do a little bit more work and check your sources? Classic clickbait. And it's always the same 2 people. I know it's hard nowadays with all the fake news but I can smell a fake piece from miles away bu how it's written and by the zero sources they quote.

  • Happy happy birthday @catftm2018!!!
My vote is always ice cream!

  • @runsomewhere DOOOOOOOO IIIIITTTTT!!!

Just got back from my growth scan. Of course the tech can't tell me anything about the baby. ugh...However, he did show me the nice set of hair growing on her head and flowing in the AF. lol Amelie is definitely stubborn because she did not want to show me her face or profile at all. Any time the tech would try, she literally moved away, put her arm over her eyes, or smudged her face against the wand. Brat. I bring my pics home and my sister tells me my kid looks like Elvis with the side burns in the ultrasound pic...so now I'm wondering if this little girl is going to come out looking like an ape...I guess I will have to wait and see. She is head down, which is great! Now to find out her estimated measurements next week...

  • @zombiehoohaa i had my growth scan today too! +1 for nontalkative tech...Did not get a single photo to take home and he was SUPER uncooperative and pissy. BUT he's still head down and super low and tech didn't say much but said she didn't think he could flip again since he's so low and that she didn't think I had long to go and was shocked when she moved to my chart and saw how many weeks I actually am.

So i know the scans can be off - but they said he's 5 lbs....at 32 weeks...and head measures at 34 weeks. Well i feel vindicated for all my crotch pain. I guess we know why my glucose was wonky...kid is being a pig.  DS's cousin who had a 10 lb baby said this kid is tracking along the same course as hers lol We'll see what OB says on Friday  I was a little surprised that measuring 2 weeks ahead didn't indicate a need for a follow up at 36/38 to prevent placenta giving out or baby too big to deliver...

    Happy Birthday @catftm2018

  • Happy birthday @catftm2018!!!

Are all you ladies having cervix checks 36 weeks? Is this routine or did your doc do it for a specific reason? Just curious what to expect next week...when I had my son and saw OBs they never did one until 38 weeks when they decided I needed to be induced in a week for high BP. Now I’m with a midwife group and assuming they don’t do routine cervix checks until much later but I don’t really know.

Tonight there we a parade on my street, and it is super loud and always freaks my dog out, so I decided to walk into town to watch the parade and visit my husband’s food truck at the carnival since my son would be up past his bedtime anyway due to all the noise. He had fun running around at the carnival but was not impressed by the parade. I am sore and exhausted from walking into town and back. It’s only a 10 minute walk but with the stroller and the dog and the hills and the 6 pounds of baby in me....I am really sad about the fact that my husband won’t be home until really late so I don’t get a foot rub.
  • @zande2016 I was wondering about that too. I think tomorrow I may get the swab for group b strep but I would not want a check until later and I'm not 36 weeks until Saturday. I'm honestly in no rush to know where I'm at as this kid will come when he wants...I just hope I don't go past 41 weeks and I have a feeling my OB will want to induce before that...I'm so not ready so he better bake until my mommis here at least.
  • @kissableviv I’m torn on the checks, I don’t want to be discouraged if I’m not making any progress but at the same time sometimes cervix checks can help move things along and I already know I’m recommended to be induced at 39 weeks. I might ask for a check and membrane sweep at 37 or 38 weeks.
  • @zande2016 and @kissableviv I know around me it's standard to start doing cervical checks at 36 weeks - though I've already had 3 or 4 by 32 because of issues - agree they may be a lot less likely to be routine with a MW.  It came up recently - I read recently that women have started declining the cervical checks because (unless you are actively having an issue and need to know what's going on) they are not the most informative and can cause cramping and spotting.

  • @zande2016 i think my paper work states cervix checks at 37 wks. Sorry to hear about no foot rub! It’s sounds fun but exhausting!
  • @gingerbride26 I’ve also read about increased risk of introducing infection with them. Also they hurt!! At least for me they did, maybe it was just because of how swollen my vagina was lol. I guess I’ll just ask on Friday and see what they plan to do. I won’t be 36 weeks until next Friday.
  • My checks usually started at 37 weeks, but bc of previous history of giganto babies and with diabetes this time around, she wanted to see where I'm at. Growth scan on Monday and then decisions will be made!

  • @zande2016 I’m getting the group B swab tomorrow, I was thinking they might check since they’ll be in the same region.. But thinking back I think I only ever got one cervix check with DS at 38+5. MW told me I was only 2cm and would probably go over my
due date as a ftm... My water broke that night lol. I’m in a MW practice too, I wouldn’t be surprised if I don’t get a check tomorrow, but I hope I get the option!

My next appt is for 34 weeks and they will do group b strep. The appt following that at 36w is a cervical check as well. And a couple days after that is the growth scan.

@zande2016 My dr says she starts cervix checks at my next appointment which will be 36 weeks. I think that's common for my area.

  • I think in my case since there are really no reasons to check before 37 I'll wait until at least then. Baby is small not very low yet, that's one of the things I've been dreading, the "poking around" lol. Bound to happen at some point! Can't believe how close we're all getting!!! Crazy to think last year that today, on my birthday, I'd be 4 ish weeks out from welcoming a baby!

thank you all so much for the birthday love!!!

    @kissableviv oh good choice!

@runsomewhere that’s amazing. Yeah that would have been creative, when I made the name I was thinking how easily you all could get to know me lmao and I’d say take a vacation day! Give yourself a rest!

@acunamatada that might just have to be my dinner tomorrow night lol

@zande2016 I honestly didn’t know anything about the cervical checks, my mom asked me last week and I told her- I’d rather not know when they start lol!
  • @gingerbride26 baby girl was measuring 4lbs. 11oz. at my 32 week growth scan last Friday.  And her head measured 34w5d  :#. Her belly only measured 32w6d though.  I think this baby is probably my biggest baby but none of my kids had large heads so I’m hoping the u/s is just off.  The growth scans were spot on with my DD but it was off for DS.  They said he was 7lbs. 6oz. at my 36 week growth scan and then he was born at 37w4d and was 6lbs 7 oz.  So I don’t know what to think since I’ve seen them be accurate and off by a pound.

  • I love our summer thunderstorms except i can’t enjoy the cooler temps at night. Turns out our dog is scared but DS can sleep though it all. Glad we got DS blackout curtains because this light show has been going on for a while now! And this baby all of a sudden is painfully active. Hope there is no correlation in activities (if you believe in that stuff).
  • It's 1am I have been trying to sleep for hours but am so uncomfortable and in pain. the restless legs are killing me the most. I am so so over being pregnant right now!

  • @lindsayleigh1989 sorry your in so much discomfort! Hope you got a few ZZZs this morning! I’ll join you in the restless night. This baby continued to be super active and low. I’ve been cramping and just overall very uncomfortable that i haven’t been about to get much sleep either. We’ll see how functional i am today that I actually have to go into the office.

@zande2016 when I was at the smaller midwife's group the last 2 times, they didn't do cervical checks until 40 weeks so they wouldn't get your hopes up, or get you discouraged(which is good, I never dialated and if I'd actually KNOWN that's what was happening weeks 36-42 I would have been sad, lol!) This midwife's office I have NO idea what they'll do, but I'm expecting the same.

@lindsayleigh1989 hope you got some sleep! I did NOT want to get up today because I tossed and turned all day too! Ugh.

ETA: Me: I'm so excited we're carrying over more money from this paycheck to the next than I anticipated! Dog that almost died: Alternates between not eating and vomitting what she eats for the last 4 days.

Guess we're going BACK to the vet! There goes all the extra money...
  • Dumb question, but in a home (or hotel) birth, if the mom has a bad tear does the MW stitch it up? I assume real emergencies have a contingency plan in place.

Also, I forgot about the doozy Birth story I read on BC for May 2018 (I think) where the mom gave birth on her back porch with only her DD present and "it was a beautiful lotus birth". Her neighbor came over afterwards to help with stuff. She posted a picture of her week old baby with a shriveled up old cord still attached and placenta next to baby in a bucket.
