I’m feeling so much solidarity with everyone going through these body/weight issues. My midwives live and die by BMI which is incredibly annoying. My goal weight gain my first pregnant was “15-20 lbs” and I gained 25 because I was terrified of disappointing them. Granted, I was overweight at the time. At the start of this pregnancy I weighed 30 lbs less than at the start of my last pregnancy and she still mentioned my weight was “higher than they’d like to see it” and that my target weight gain was “20-25 lbs.” They also make everyone keep a food journal for 5 days starting in the second tri. I just hate all the body and weight talk. Let me live!
A food journal for a pregnant person sounds over the top! Im with you on let me live @melbel0824 yes to what you said about the in between of not looking pregnant but def not looking the same. I’m looking forward to having a noticeable bump, I just feel awkward right now. My regular clothes don’t fit but my maternity don’t either yet.
DS born 04/22/15, Pregnant again 03/01/17 however loss due to PPROM at 20+6 weeks now TTC rainbow
@alinafed My doula took pictures last time. I told her not to take any "down there" and she did anyway and I think I was just too in the moment to really notice. They are beautiful, albeit safely saved in a password protected file that nobody but DH and I will ever see. She also took amazing pictures of DH & I holding DS the first time, him getting measured and weighed and all those first moments. That is my biggest fear with not having a doula this time is missing out on those great photos.
@scottishlass1213 I have the same issue. Morning sickness took me out of the gym for a few weeks and then water retention blocks any definition I had left.
I'm glad the conversation went well. We had convos about weight in my original bmb and they always went fine. I don't want anyone to feel like there's something they can't bring up.
@alinafed I'm considering it. I had planned to with DS but I had such a weird (and early) labor and birth that I didn't think my photographer would make it, since she was 2-3 hours away. Since he was a preemie, I also didn't know how long they'd let me actually hold him after, so I didn't think it was worth the money that time. I have a good friend who is a fellow photographer in our town now, and she's going to do my maternity, fresh 48, and newborn sessions for me, and I'm thinking if I get to full term I may have her do birth too. We'll see. I do LOVE birth images though, the emotions are like no other!!

BFP 2.28.17, EDD 11.8.17 - baby girl, miscarried at 11 weeks on 4.21.17 BFP 11.28.17, EDD 8.8.18, delivering in July - another rainbow baby boy!
I also asked a good friend to do the photos. I honestly wasn't paying attention to who was in the room when it was time to push so I wouldn't have noticed if the NY Times was there taking photos but if I'm planning ahead, I like the idea of a friend being there rather than a stranger. Besides she's already seen the worst of me, she came in the room right after DS was born to help me get him latched and they were still stitching me up lol! Didn't care!
@mrsbubbles-2 It's where the photographer comes to the hospital within the first 48 hours. Usually the day after or late in the day that the baby is born. Just to get some nice fresh baby photos, some first family photos, all in the hospital setting. It's like a less formal newborn session. I've done a couple of them for friends and love how they turn out.
Edit: Here is a good example. I'm mainly wanting to do it so I get great photos of DS meeting the baby!

Our hospital had a photographer that came by the day after DS was born to do those photos. I didn't want to be in them (thanks 5+ bags of IV fluids), but the shots of DS & DH are adorable. I didn't buy their expensive package (aren't I paying you enough for this to be included?!) but the video was free and I took screenshots of it with my phone that look pretty good.
The raw emotions I've seen on birth photos is amazing, but I don't like my picture being taken when I'm all dressed up and smiling, let alone in a hospital during a private painful life event. That said, I wouldn't mind professional shots of the baby in the 48hrs after. I might change my mind down the road, but we'll see.
@elsieisamoocow - beautiful! And tears, actual tears at some of those photos (the one of dad swaddling the baby OMG!!!) And what a wonderful moment of your DS meeting the baby to capture!
@mrsbubbles-2 Yes! It's special when the grandparents are there meeting the baby too. So many sweet tiny moments.

@scottishlass1213 I read them every morning. It makes me feel better about myself as a person, knowing that I know more than basic amount of medical knowledge and seemingly having my life together and have a decent relationship.
The one I audibly WTF'd lately was, "Can I go to the movies when I'm 11 weeks pregnant?!"
Sometimes I would hear about people doing birth photos, and then I remember that during the 2.5 hour push-fest with DD1 I was bawling from sheer exhaustion and had an oxygen mask on most of the time. Real happy I don't have pictures of that.
You guys are welcome!!! there was one today about peeing red or something. And then one about a husband that cheated because his wife wouldn’t have sex for a few weeks. If they are real then OMG
@alinafed im thinking about doing them pro this time. We had one of the midwhife assistants take them for my first ( which was normal for them to do they said) and we brought our pro camera for her to use Wich they said was fine. Well all the pictures of the actual birth moment were blurry, it was pretty sad. We got some other photos after that are good with my husband's phone at least.
@lalala2004 thank you so much for posting that screen shot. I am laying in bed with insomnia trying to catch up on all the threads and I made it to the end of this one and literally laughed out loud so hard my H jolted up in bed next to me. Pure entertainment right there.
I decided to go for the birth photos and I put a deposit down! If it goes down at all like the first two I think there will still be lots of moments I would be happy to have captured, like DH and my midwife helping me through the pain, etc., and especially the first few moments after baby comes out. I can't wait!
Recommendations for a bad cold/bronchitis? I just feel so miserable right now...my sinuses are completely clogged, I can't stop coughing and ~ TMI ~
I am coughing up quite a bit of ugly phlegm.
~ End TMI. ~
I use a neti pot about 3 x per day and for a bit I was taking Day and NyQuil, but it made my head so foggy I couldn't think at work. I am taking today off to rest, but other than drinking tea, rest and doing my neti pot, I just don't know what to do. Maybe this is just a vent, but being sick while parenting a toddler and pregnant is no fun at all
@vinerie - I'm so sorry you're sick! Is it possible to get to either a clinic or your GP? I had bronchitis a few months ago and they put me on antibiotics and an inhaler because I was wheezing. There's not much that they can give you while pregnant but that inhaler made a world of difference to help me clear the disgusting phlem!
I'm also a big fan of the pot of steaming water with a towel over my head for a few minutes, always clears the sinuses. I really hope you feel better soon!
@vinerie That sucks - I'm experiencing the same thing. I thought at first it was allergies but this cough is just getting nastier and nastier. This is my 3rd sickness this pregnancy, which I think is ridiculous - considering I never get sick. My doc said robitussin dm is fine (not the nighttime stuff with alcohol in it of course) to take so that's what I did last time I was sick - and cough drops. But i"d only take meds at night. I know it's probably just fine but I'm still kind of iffy about taking too much stuff. I use a neti pot too and it clears stuff out for a few hours, which is helpful.
Prenatal question - I have one that's supposed to be taken twice a day. I am terrible at remembering to take it one of the times so i've been taking both doses at once instead of skipping one. That's the better way, right? Or should I skip it?
You might want to check to see what vitamins are in it and how much of each vitamin can be absorbed at a time. Otherwise it is pretty much a waste or you can risk toxicity. I would double check just to be sure.
Anyone have any good freezer meal recipes? Want to bring my sister some meals in the next week or two (as she just had a baby!) and am struggling to come up with anything but lasagna.
@doctormom33 My mom always stocks my freezer when she's in town! Soups are great, she puts them doubled in gallon ziplock bags. Chili freezes great. Stuffed peppers. Chicken pot pie.
@doctormom33 Here were some of my faves from my stash. I'm already preparing to do this again. I basically just started cooking this stuff for dinner once a week once I hit third trimester, and I would double the recipe and freeze the extra portion.
Thanks @juliebird6! This list is great. My sister will have family in town or helping for the next few weeks, so I'm trying to line her up with some things by the time that help disappears. Also gives me a chance to test some recipes I might want to use myself in August!
LOVE freezer meal ideas! In fact, we could start a whole thread on it because I think there will be a lot of interest! I went to Pinterest for mine, I made several stews, a chicken and sweet potato hash thing with black beans and plenty of the necessities that we use regularly like spaghetti sauce with veggies and either chicken or beef, home made chicken and beef stock and frozen breakfast sandwiches.
I would throw out one suggestion - if you can, include something that she can eat quickly and with one hand. I loved having breakfast and lunch burritos frozen because I would heat them up and could still nurse / rock DS while eating. Multitasking food is the best
I really liked having some non-traditional options (hence the breakfast burritos and quiche) for the days when we were just too burnt out on casseroles.
