Re: Maternity Clothes

  • I have one pair from Motherhood I like. Technically they're under the belly, but they fold over so I can unfold over my belly.
  • @halfanewt  I have a pair from "beyond the bump" that are hand me downs and are so soft!!!!

  • @jemmerjams @sammierose464 thanks! I drove to the motherhood store closest to me today, only to find it was permanently closed. Sigh. Might have to make a special trip to check out them and the pnp store. Too bad I hate driving in traffic...
  • @halfanewt I’m still wearing my regular running shorts, but prob not for long. I have a pair from target and actually love them! They fit great and the back is wonderful in the FL heat.

  • @Laumb11 those look like the ones I tried on. Couldn’t deal with the low back. Glad you like them!
My regular full length leggings still fit comfortably, but it’s heating up and I don’t know how much longer I can wear them in the heat. Apparently all my capris are higher waisted. Normally nice, but now just a little too much compression...
  • Hey all, I just found this thread as I didn’t know where else to ask - sorry if it was addressed on an earlier page: now my dumb boobs are out of the sizes typically in stores. I’m a DD I think now. Where can I get bras that size that aren’t $25+ each? I’m a stm and I never had this issue last time (well I did but only went to a d). I do not want to spend a lot of bras that are temporary.

Also, motherhood maternity discontinued my favorite underwear - they had a v-cut and fit under the bump. What is eveyone else doing for undies??

@HoosOnFirst I think target and stores like tjmaxx or marshals should have DD for cheaper.
As for underwear I'm wearing my regular undies, I usually just wear Victoria secrets thongs and they work well for me so far.

Thanks! I feel like all the thongs are v-cut but I’ve never been a thong girl. I just found some super low rise bikinis at jockey that I’ll check out this week! I bought some specific maternity underwear at motherhood maternity two weeks ago and the cut is awful. I hate they stopped making the old cut.
  • @HoosOnFirst any underwear with a lace waist will work well! The VS lace hipsters (I think) have worked well through 2.5 pregnancies so far :)

  • @HoosOnFirst IDK on the bra front, my normal sizes range from a 30DD/32DD which are typically harder to find stores, and now I'm a F/G, so I'm used to having to shell out $60-70+ for a bra. Sigh. This is also why I only bought one bra when my boobs grew first tri....and now it's wearing out from overuse, so I'm right with you on the temporary bra situation. You could always browse department store websites for sales and see if your size gets marked down? VS does sell DD in some band sizes if I remember correctly, and they would be cheaper than $60 I think? (but not $25 :/)

For undies, I've bought plain old cotton undies a size up on Amazon. I had to size up because they were too tight in my normal size, and the VPL was bad. Still not a great panty line, but oh well. I also can still wear the "one size fits all" thongs from VS or Hanky Panky (at nordstrom).

Did the lace hold up in the wash?
  • @HoosOnFirst +1 for VS underwear. They sell all sorts of V-shape styles. I always go for the 5 for $25. It's the style I've always worn before pregnancy, and since being pregnant they've worked great. I may have to go up a size soon though for the expanding hips.

@HoosOnFirst the undies hold up well in the wash I've noticed but my MIL always says to air dry your undies which I never did until loving there and she saved me so much money in new undies purchases!! They lasted soo much longer!
  • I had a friend that worked in the lingerie dept at a store for years, and she always air dried her bras & nicer undies too.

I've had to go up a band size, but not a cup size, so now I'm a 38B. It doesn't seem to be a common size, and I can find it on clearance racks. Everything I've read seems to indicate that I will probably still go up a cup size, so I didn't want to buy too many. I've always been small chested, so I don't usually wear bras just lying around the house, but the girls are starting to get sore. I'm trying to make do with sports bras because if I get nursing bras now, they're going to be too small, right?

For regular bras, Macy's has big lingerie sales fairly often, it seems. I got 3 bras for about $55 in May, between sales and a coupon. I think they go up to DD in some brands.
  • I just buy one, maybe two, bras as I size up through out pregnancy. Last time I think I sized up once earlier on and again in the last month or two. I went cheaper but also remember you likely won’t go back to the same exact size you were even long post baby. My mid-pregnancy bras eventually became my new size after weaning.

And plus one to VS lace undies. Wore my regular size through my entire pregnancy with DS. They’ve held up for years, even with the dryer.
  • @HoosOnFirst I got 2 ddd bras at walmart. And so far so good. They were like $13 a piece.

@HoosOnFirst. I wear a non-regular bra size (small band, large cup combo) and finding reasonably priced bras is always a challenge for me as well. There's only one brick and mortar store around me that sells anything even remotely resembling my sizes, and I'm looking at spending $70+/bra there, so I'm mostly relegated to online.

If they're having sales, Bare Necessities and Her Room have a huge range of brands and sizes.  Also, it can be hit or miss, but Zulily sometimes has sales for hard to find bra sizes. They recently had a sale for some of the cheaper brands that carry unusual sizes, and almost everything in there was under $40. It might still be going on. I recently bought 2 bras from one of their sales, both Parfait (the cheap version of Affinitas bras) for under $20/each.
  • +1 to air drying bras- especially underwires.  When I started air drying mine, I discovered that the wires no longer get contorted out of shape.
  • +1 for air drying undies and bras. Keeps them from shrinking and wearing out. I also sometimes wash my bras on the delicate cycle in a lingerie bag. I don't have an agitator in my washing machine, so I think that helps with the wear.
  • I definitely air dry bras! I’m just too lazy to do it with undies. I think I’ll hit up Walmart on Wednesday for cheap bras.

@halfanewt I got the under belly yoga pants from Target & LOVE them! I’ll probably never stop wearing them even post baby. I think Old Navy may have some as well - I got two work out tanks from there and they work well (and they were $10-12)

+1 for air drying bras... they last much longer and don’t end up changing shape (especially with underwire)
  • @lolo_0924 oooh, didn’t realize they had underbelly! I’ll have to check those out. Thanks for the tip!
  • @HoosOnFirst our maternity section (within the bra/underwear section) of walmart has like 7 different kinds of maternity/nursing bras and the easiest for me to comfortably fit in (smaller band, huge cup size here).they also had underwear there,  (I think called great expectations, I'll have to check mine). The low rise hipster ones are great, so comfy and breathable. And they don't move around or press into anything. They are the only ones I can comfortably wear.
  • @halfanewt Old Navy used to have great, full panel ones. They got rid of them! They have a roll panel one that is comfortable enough, but I think I need to size down because they're kind of baggy and roll down.

  • I've been buying bras at Target for $16-20. I have gone up two band sizes from a 34DD to a 38DD, it's been fun...
  • I found a spanx bra 38DDD at goodwill new with the tags on it. Fits great with room to grow band wise. Paid $3.99 but I’d probably pay full price for one I love it so much!
  • What’s everyone doing for nursing bras? Even my sports bras were barley fitting so my husband dragged me out to buy one. I feel really cheap about it because I know I’ll still be growing. I started as a 34C and yesterday measured at a 36D. STMs, how much more did you grow?

I bought a bralette and it is so comfy:

I’m looking for something else that would fit nicely under dresses and tops for when I’m going out or get back to work. I was thinking of the Bravado body silks or embrace. Has anyone tried those? I heard they are forgiving for when you’re breasts are still growing. I don’t want to invest in a really good bra that I won’t be able to wear for long so I might go with the 3 pack from H&M if it’s still too early. I’m almost 25 weeks. Thoughts?
  • @jenchoo I have the Bravado body silk one, and it does not offer a whole lot of support, IMO, if you have larger breasts (32G here). I took the nursing pads out because they made my boobs look gross and cone-y and uni-boob-y, and pretty much only wear around the house and to bed. quite comfy though, and definitely help with the nighttime nipple chafe I'm getting from going braless! I happen to be a the smaller range of the medium size, so I know I have some room to grow during nursing, so that will probably fit me.

I've only bought 2 other bras so far (not including the nursing sports bra I bought), a larger size in the same style I always wear, and a nursing bra from Cake (the waffles one-figured it was cheaper than my normal bras, so why not try it.). Neither one is particularly comfy now, because the wire tends to rest on my stomach when I sit down, but they get the job done. I don't expect either to work for me while nursing, since one isn't a nursing bra, and both may be too small by that time.
  • zulily has Pink Blush on sale. Zulily's return policy kinda sucks though just to keep in mind.
