@4deep yeah we're covered through the end of the month and waiting to find out how much cobra will cost. I know it will be more than we can afford but we have no choice. He's got another job prospect lined up and he's working on that, but I know even if he gets that, coverage won't take effect right away. My job only offers contribution for the employee's coverage, and even then it's only 50%, so going through my job is not a viable option.
@noideawhatshesdoing I'm sorry you are going through that with your BFF. I have a sister that is exactly the same way so I understand just how difficult it is to deal with. The negativity and stress from that person can really rub off on you and make you feel overwhelmed and anxious. It's hard to get a break from an immediate family member so I'm glad you have the opportunity to step away and take a breather. Stay well!
@zande2016 I’m so sorry! That’s so sucky. You definitely don’t need that added stress. I’m glad he has another job prospect. I’ll be sending you good vibes!
Our DS just turned 2 and he still had a paci...until yesterday. He's only ever taken 1 specific pacifier, refuses all others, and with his canine teeth coming in right now he bit a chunk out of his paci so we had to tell him it broke and that we threw it away. He was sad for a second but has already moved on! I think it was harder on me than it was on him!
@zg49 those milestones are so bittersweet! Congrats to him tho for being a biggie boy!
We’re getting a lot of rain in PA today and my basement is getting wet. Ugh. It’s supposed to rain all morning so it’s just going to get worse. I’m really hoping that we don’t get inches down there.
@zande2016 I am so sorry. That is my biggest fear. My job has been laying a ton of ppl off and I always think I'm next. Is it possible to get your coverage thru your work for only you, and only have your DH and kid(s) do Cobra? Maybe that would be a little less expensive? Also tell your OB so maybe she can fit in your appts before the end of the month. I know my OB packed up a ton of prenatal samples for a lady who lost her insurance so she wouldn't have to buy them. Hopefully it all works out. I'll be thinking of you
@zande2016 I'm so sorry to hear about the struggles! It might be worth it to check what the price would be to pick up health insurance at your job. Personal experience cobra can get super pricey. And you should be able to add and then drop your insurance based on life events, or at least I'm pretty sure I have that option. Not the stress you need right now! I will be thinking of you and hope he finds a new job quickly!
Me: 31 DH: 34 Married: April 2016 TTC December 2016 BFP 2/28/17 // CP 3/1/17 MFI Diagnosis: Aug 2017 BFP 11/1/17 // DS born 6/18 TTC January 2019 BFP 3/21/19 // D&C (MMC) 5/8/19
@zande2016@MrsMiller8588 Loss/start of a job(benefits) is considered a Qualified Life Event so you will be able to start/stop insurance for those things. Just make sure you do it within the 30(?) days so you don't have to wait until open enrollment.
@zande2016 I'm so sorry! Do you have options at your work at all, like @moguippy said? If not, can you go through the marketplace? I lost my coverage when I quit my stupid job and wasn't married for another 2 months so I had to get covered because my new job doesn't offer benefits at all. I'm under my husband's now but I did have Kaiser hmo (I'm in Cali) for 2-3 months and it ran about $250. Way cheaper than cobra. Plus, since you're husband is unemployed, you may be able to get a discount. Feel free to PM me if you need help!
I don't mean to get political once again, but damn, this just doesn't happen where I'm from and Italy is sure as hell not doing great economically. Basic Health insurance should be accessible to everyone regardless of their job!
I wish it wasn’t a political issue @kissableviv. It’s a public health issue if you ask me.
@zande2016 I’m not sure about income requirements where you live, but would Medicaid be an option since your husband is unemployed? In CT I think pregnant women are pretty much automatically approved although you may need to prove you can’t afford your other insurance options.
Aaah my husband literally just bought a lovesac and I’m halfway between excitement and anger for the purchase lol it’s so expensive for a dang bean bag but also SO COMFY!!
@hillbillywife ugh I hate flooding basements. We don't typically get any from rain but I have twice flooded it by our washer overflowing and another by leaving a hose on near the window that burst. Such a mess! Hope it doesn't get too bad for you.
Thanks for the support. Just found out a family plan through my job is 2,500 a month - I think they'll contribute some towards mine but not for family. Still waiting on cobra numbers but we might be forced to use the marketplace and last I checked the affordable plans in our area are really bad. I am pretty sure I make too much for Medicaid. This is just such a horrible feeling. I agree this is a public health issue and it makes me so angry, and I am also so angry that my husband lost his job the way he did, when he did nothing wrong. It's just so unbelievable.
@hillbillywife Idk about current kids, especially with all the CHIP mess- but I was on Medicaid during my first pregnancy and they covered DS health insurance for the first year automatically even though DH had insurance that he was going onto which was pretty cool.
So I want to make a Gif party to celebrate as we all hit the halfway point, because I think that is celebrate worthy. I just don't want to hurt feelings lf the end of the monthers. even though i know I would go love tit the S*** out of their gifs when they get there. Thoughts?
@zande2016 - It will likely take 1-2 weeks to get your Cobra information. And there's a retro-enrollment period for Cobra. Basically, it means you'll get something like 30-60 days from his last day to opt in. If you do opt in, you owe the payments from that time and will have coverage from the day he lost his job, even if you don't opt in until day 60.
This can help give you time to research. For example, you may decide you need self coverage but if your DH gets a new job quickly that will offer benefits by the time the window is up, you could wait and see if he or the kids will even need to go to the doctor. If something happens during that time that costs more than Cobra, opt in. If not, you went 30-60 days without health insurance but it was at minimal cost to you and you're fine. I did that back in 2010 between jobs.
Some states also have income adjusted Medicaid plans for pregnant women or will help pay your work premiums if you can't afford them (to help keep you from going on Medicaid). It's called a HIPP program, I believe. Your doc likely has some info they can share with you about programs in your state.
@lindsayleigh1989 I'm due towards the end of the month, however i will never say no to a gif party! Also, it may be worth adding text to the description to add a gif when you hit the half way mark. This way everyone feels included?
@lindsayleigh1989 I doubt it...I'm an attorney (though I don't work in employment law), and I am almost positive since we are an at will employment state/country, there's nothing we can do unless there was discrimination. I did tell my H to write a complaint email to HR once he's cooled down, not that it will get him his job back, but what happened to him is just wrong and it will at least be therapeutic to us both to get it out in the open. All the other general managers in his district (so the other local stores) are now afraid for their jobs because they think this district manager that fired my H is trying to make his mark. Since he's new, and he didn't hire any of the GMs in his district, they think he's trying to get rid of the old and bring in his own hires.
THIS is the kind of community I love. Everyone coming together to help someone with resources for a tough time. Keep the resources coming!
@zande2016 To add to what @MichelleAG05 said, I am pretty sure you can be uncovered for up to 90 days and not get penalized by the government for being uninsured (but check first, don't take my word for it). So if your DH and kids can avoid the doctor for that long you won't be penalized. I also work in an at-will state so basically we're SOL bc it's so hard to prove discrimination even if it does happen. It sucks
@lindsayleigh1989 definitely add wording like @zombiehoohaa said to avoid anyone getting upset. But there is no reason you should not celebrate just bc not everyone is halfway yet, You are, so gif party it up!
@zande2016 I am so sorry you are going through this! Is there a chance without DH's income that you qualify to get just your kid healthcare through the state? I know VT has a low income kids insurance so you can cover your children and then opt to go without yourself. Then maybe you could cover yourself through work and DH could go marketplace. Good luck and I hope you find something that works for you!
Thanks @SmashJam I am thinking we will likely do something along those lines. My state does have health insurance for all kids, but the amount you pay is based on income and household size. For our size and my income alone, we would still have to pay $60 a month for my son but it's better than nothing and I can afford that. Then I would be paying around 500 for myself through work, and probably just have my H go without until cobra eligibility ends and reassess the situation. I guess we have a little under 2 weeks to figure it all out.
I ended up leaving work this morning because I couldn't pull myself together, and now my H and I are just lying around the house feeling sad while our son is still at daycare. Need to try to cheer us up without spending money. Of course all I can think to do is drown our sorrows in food lol. Which doesn't play well with the gestational diabetes.
This is random and probably incredibly silly, but I was getting excited about my anatomy scan in 2 weeks and thinking about the other appointments after. For me, after the anatomy scan, there are only 5 appts left until 36 weeks. I mean, I know that is 5 months, but thinking about it in terms of how many times I have to go to the doctor and what happens at some of those appts (fetal echo, GD test, GBS swab) things are moving so fast! the next few appts have actual purposes instead of just a "yep, we're good, high five!" and then we are almost there.

omg @ashbub714 I’m so jealous! Love sac’s are my absolute favorite! If we had space for a GIANT one I’d totally be all over that!
@zg49 thanks! I’m hoping it doesn’t get too bad too. Hasn’t gotten much worse over the last hour or so so maybe we’ll luck out and just need to mop.
