We have two girl names we like but can't find any boy names! DH hates the ones I suggest and I hate the ones he suggests.he tried doing a name he liked with one of my first options as middle name. No. Still don't like your first name picks.
It's funny now that I think about it. I definitely chose our girl name and DH picked out the boy and its perfect we get to use both! It took a long time for me to agree with anything DH chose though. He wasn't sold on my name pick but got used to it quick. Like @sliztee said, us ladies are certainly the boss
We have narrowed down names, but I am super frustrated because any time I try to discuss picking the winning name, DH changes his mind or says he doesn't like it as much anymore. Ugh....you can't reneg! It took long enough to narrow down a list we both liked/didn't hate...
@nasalot188 that happened to us and it is the worst! DH is very indecisive and guess he needed more time to seriously think about our narrowed down list. So now are have an entire new list. IF he does this again we will be screwed! LOL

If it makes anyone feel better, with DD (now 6) we made the final decision on her name while I was on the operating table for my C-section. I wanted to name her Lexie, but I read somewhere that you should name them a full name even if you want to call your child by their nickname, so we went with Alexis. The middle name we had picked was Lynn, and as we were on the way to the hospital, I told DH that if she decided to go by Lexi, her name would be too rhyme-y. I don't care if others do it, it's just not my style. We talked a bit about what we liked, but went to check in once we got to the hospital. Once DH gowned up and they let him in the OR we decided on Alexis Shizuko! Shizuko is a family name on my mom's side, her mother was Japanese, and is my middle name. It is a mouthful, and it doesn't get used much even when she's really in trouble!
DH is set on a first name, which I like, but I'm not 100% sold yet. It's so stressful! A lot of the names we've picked aren't super common, but they aren't super unique, so I don't hear them around everyday so it's hard to imagine my daughter with that name. Middle name is picked, so that's half the battle!
@coffee-saur I love that middle name! My H is 25% Japanese and while I'm straight up white, I do have family living in Japan. I'd love to use a Japanese name but H thinks it would be weird since our kids are "barely Asian."
Lol @SawyerRichardson! Yea I'm only a quarter Japanese also, and don't look it much except darker hair, but even that's just brown. I love family names and hailing back to our ancestry, even if it is remote I've had a hard time nailing down what 'Shizuko' actually means. Babynames.com doesn't even have it and the other places I've looked differ slightly. One said 'graceful' (doesn't fit me in the least ) and another said 'Quiet one', which I wasn't sure how to feel about exactly.
@coffee-saur Ethan and Evan were both on our list for boys last time and Lexi was one of our girl names (before we found out it was 2 boys).
If it helps any, even though Ethan and Evan are both close in spelling to Ean, only Ethan sounds really similar, which might be harder for them to tell who you’re talking to if they mishear what you say. Of course, my boys don’t have remotely close sounding names and they still can’t figure out who I’m talking to, but I think that’s a different issue.
Edit: gurl? Really autocorrect? That isn’t even a real word.
@SawyerRichardson@coffee-saur DH is 50% Taiwanese and we have considered using a family name from his mother's side, but it would probably have to be a middle name to avoid a lot of explanation every time we used it. Strong Irish and German genes, I guess, but our kids are pretty white. He keeps saying that this one is going to look just like his mom and everyone is going to figure we adopted...
So I downloaded that Baby Name app that’s sort of like tinder that you can share with your SO. I never though my husband would even accept but he did and low and behold we have two matches! I was so surprised! We haven’t discussed names yet at all and I was shocked lol. There’s a name I really like that holds a lifetime of sentimental value to me...and it’s one of our matches!! And then one I saw and never thought of is our other match. We aren’t sent on names yet, my list grows and shrinks daily lol but some that we have now discussed are:
Valerie Sawyer Kadence Jordyn Natalie Hazel
i asked my kiddos too and they both seem to like Valerie. It’s really growing on me! The middle name we already know will be Elizabeth.
@jenchoo you are giving your baby your last name, right? We're doing the same (I retained my last name when I got married) and I really wanted to give our baby a first name from DH's side of the family but he doesn't love those options! But I am also trying to be very lenient in whatever DH wants to choose from.
WE are team green this time around and having to come up with two names is proving to Be quite tough. Our daughters name is Perrie And it was the only name we actually agreed on last time! Our list (mainly my list) currently is: BOY: Dawson or Eivin Girl: Aida or Nellie
DH won’t take names seriously yet. He likes to suggest the most random and ridiculous things. We have matches on the baby names app but when I ask him to narrow them down or pick a favorite, he won’t! So annoying!
@quiltandknit my DH does the same thing! The only names he throws out are obviously sarcastic and he won't give me any productive feedback on realistic names! Hoping he'll start taking it seriously soon!

For a while, I was having fun suggesting wild names to my husband because I know he’s into traditional names (we both are). It was hilarious to watch his expression when I told him Pomegranate Basil should be our daughter’s name lol (no offense to anyone who wants to name their child Pomegranate )
Me: 33 DH: 31 Location: Castle Rock, CO DD: 10.13.18 baby #2 due: 7.14.20
@jemmerjams I second that! There's a place near me that serves ruby red basil martinis that are incredible (so good I made it my signature cocktail at my wedding haha) but I would totally drink a pomegranate basil cocktail!

So I read through this entire thread and pulled out anything I
thought might be a possibility I now have 62 boy names and 64 girl
names But at the rate DH vetos things we should be down to like 3 names soon. He's also Polish so middle name will be full Polish. DD's middle is Magdalena.

BFP 11/16/20 (EDD 7/31/21). "Round 3 FIGHT!"
we had it down to two names, then back up to five, and now DH really loves one that has been one of my top two for a while (but he vetoed with another baby already and initially did not like this time) and he is ready to settle on it. that should be perfect, except now i am questioning it because he didn't like it for so long. oh, and we have had the middle name picked out for months and he just brought up the middle name that i have wanted for literally all of our kids so far that he never liked. seriously man, i love you but why are you messing with me like this?
I think we are FINALLY decided! Corbyn Murphy Jamie Last name (sounds like FivEEE)
Corbyn because it's strong, unique but not crazy, and goes well with our last name Murphy from my grandparents' last name (who raised me) Jamie from DH's father and DH's actually first name but he goes by Chris Murphy before Jamie so it doesn't look like he has too last names!

Still struggling with a name, so bumping this up... DH really likes William, and I like it but I’m just not 100% sold, mainly because I hate the nicknames Bill and Billy, and know I can’t necessarily control what nicknames people use. What do you guys think of William? DH doesn’t like any of the names I’ve suggested really, so this is the only real contender at the moment, it seems.

I feel the same about Benjamin. DH likes it, I'm okay with it but the nicknames I'm not fine with - Ben, Benji, Benny. I do like the suggestion of Will though!
I'm hoping me calling him by his middle name will stick! Benjamin Elias - aka Eli.
@pumpkinpancake I feel you on that! Our son is Anthony and I dislike the nickname Tony. We just always call him Anthony so hopefully that sticks! We don’t have any names because my husband is a huge PITA and never feels like talking about it. This kid is going to be NoName
@pumpkinpancake I love the name William. It was on our short list with both DS and this baby. Will is also a possible nickname. I understand the not wanting certain nicknames to be used though...my name is Victoria and I go by Tori, but people always try to call me Vicky.
Have y’all checked out Nymbler? You can put in names that both of you like and it’ll give suggestions based on that.
Thanks ladies! I actually don’t mind Will as a nickname, but just really don’t like the others, so if we go with it, I will do everything possible to make sure he’s never called Bill or Billy haha. We’re not really big nickname people though (my name is short so nicknames have never been an issue, and DH is adamant that he only goes by his full name, and hates all shortened versions of his name), so I’d hope that we could just make people use his full name if we go with William.
So my thing with nicknames is that they really dont have to be based on their name. For example, DHs name is Christopher but his family nn is Moe. He never knew why they called him Moe because it was his nn since he was a toddler. Well at our wedding rehearsal dinner FIL told the story about how he got his nn and it was a really cute story and a really sweet moment. His whole family has nn's that have absolutely nothing to do with their names. That's going to be my hope with our baby bears, because Sawyer doesn't have a cutesy nn and Theodore I dont like Teddy so we're going to call him Theo unless a nn comes to us
@pumpkinpancake There is a William in DD-6 class and everyone just calls him William. I think that's all the parents use and maybe Will, so that's all we've called him. Same with an Anthony. He's always just called Anthony.
Similar boat with our name choice, Wesley. Not a huge fan of Wes (at least not until he’s grown), so the hope is to just reinforce it as only Wesley and hope it’s what sticks for everyone else.
