Re: Name Thread 2.0

  • @slr1229 Yeah, I mean, it's not a "Ty and Skye" level of rhyming, but I think they do rhyme partially. If YH prefers strictly 100% zero rhyming then it makes sense why he's not into it.

  • Thanks, he’s not bringing anything to the table so at this point Morgan is my choice if we have a girl.  Ha, just nice getting neutral feedback, not telling family any name choices.

@Gingermom15 My besties daughters name is Ada & I absolutely love it. She hasn’t had any issues with anyone misprouncing it. It’s a great name!
  • @antoto Ooh! I love that thought. I might be able to convince my grandma to knit him a super hero cape. <3

We've been trying to find an Italian boy name that isn't too common and not "ugly" or difficult to pronounce. We love Mateo but there are too many out there. The last DH and I talked, we thought about Dante and Massimo. I'm leaning towards Massimo and I'd call him Max for short. I don't think DH loves it. So difficult!!!! Girl names are easier. Lol
  • @nancysimp Was just talking to a coworker yesterday about how much he loves his Italian name Rodolfo. He goes by Rudy.
  • @nancysimp My DH is from Italy and we are going through the same thing. Names that sound good both in Italy and US. It's so hard!

I like Massimo a lot. We have a friend with that name and aren't planing to use it ourselves. Some of my favs that DH doesn't like (too many family members, etc) are Luca, Lorenzo, Valentino, Fiore

    Good luck!

I had stopped following this thread for a while (not sure why)
@chasingroygbiv not sure if you are all considering this... but at my employer hyphenated names are a total B****. I have to remove the hyphens from everyone I hire because our computer systems seem to just not be able to function for those that use a hyphen.

as for me.. we had decided on Stella Jane a few months ago (back up of Nora Jane Incase we met her and Stella didn't feel right). Case closed. NOW - DH is saying he's fallen in love with the idea of "Lily Jane" abbr he really wants to use it. i actually do like it - but i just can't get past the fact that lillies are a symbol of death (and also purity.... but i can't not focus on the death part). am I wrong to veto for this reason alone? he really really likes it
  • @bb3vj3n I feel like hyphens would cause similar issues as the ones apostrophes face. I have an apostrophe in my last name because it is super Irish and some places use it, some don’t. It always causes a headache. If the same is true I would 100% avoid a hyphen just for the headache
  • @antoto @Gingermom15 I was looking at the Top Names List for 2017 that was released yesterday from Nameberry and completely floored that Aryan is #32. Wow.
  • @antoto @Gingermom15 I was looking at the Top Names List for 2017 that was released yesterday from Nameberry and completely floored that Aryan is #32. Wow.
    Whhaaaaaat???  That's cray.
  • @mdfarmchick WHAT.

Jack being #3 pretty much pushed it off my top contenders list, despite the fact that my husband loves it. I knew it was popular but not THAT popular.
  • @ksmwalters ditto what @antoto said. The girl name we are choosing was in the high 700’s last year on the SSA list and is in the top 50 on the nameberry list. They just track how often a name is searched on their site, not how often it’s actually used. They try to predict trends in future names by doing this but it’s pretty off base.
    Me: 30 DH: 31
    Married: May 2008
    DD Born: March 2018
    DS Born: April 2019
    Due with #3 December 2020!
  • Ohhhhhhh that makes way more sense @antoto @JBcakes08. I’ve checked the SSA website too. I think Jack’s pretty high on there as well.
  • We are trying to narrow down the list but keep adding more. We have Gabriel Lee and Alaina Grace already. Any thoughts?

  • @megpeg For your girl list I like: Josie, Annika, and Eliza the best, though I like many of the others.  Least favorite would be Peyton.

For your boy list I like Landon or Rhys.  Least favorite would be Declan.
  • @megpeg I used to work with an Anneka (spelled slightly differently)--I like that name a lot. I also like Paige. I like the name Rhys for a boy--we've considered that one too and may go for it ourselves next time if there is a next time and if we have another boy. Not super into Peyton or Seth, just as a personal preference.
  • @megpeg Annika and Peyton for girls....Rhys and Landon for boys. I'm impressed y'all  made complete lists  :) DH and I are gonna name this child on a wing and a prayer lol
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @cford08 we know we can't do that. We are both super picky and our child would never have a name. We will have one boy and one girl name when we go.

  • @bb3vj3n We did veto the hyphen! Now to nail down the middle name!

I love Lily, but I didn’t know the death part.., hmmm... I’m not sure I could move past that. That’s tough!
  • Is it bad luck to tell people the name before the child is born? Pretty much the whole family knows and has been referring to him by the name we decided on but it feels weird to me without him being here yet..
  • @sarahhedger7 we told with both of our other kids but this one is different since we are team green. I think it's weird this time saying it or the baby since we don't know.

  • @sarahhedger7 I'm not sure if it's considered bad luck or not but we do the same thing.  :)  We called DS by his name as soon as we decided, and we've been calling this babe Ellie or Eloise, too. Feels a little weird sometimes but makes it feel more "real".
    BabyFruit Ticker

  • @sarahhedger7 I hope it's not bad luck because we're doing it too! Once everyone knew we knew the sexes it's like the first thing people ask so...
  • Sooo anyone want to vote?? spam me with all of your opinions. The middle name is Joseph after my grandfather that passed in October. I could be persuaded to use it as a first name, possibly.
    Choices are:
    Samuel ((Sam))
    Theodore ((Teddy))
    Delaney ((Del))
    Thomas ((Tommy))
    Nathaniel ((Nate))

All of them have family significance because I love having a family name. And because he shot down Sebastian and Finnley
  • @mdfarmchick I'll rank them favorite to least favorite!

    -Samuel
    -Theodore
    -Nathaniel
    -Thomas
    -Delaney

  • @mdfarmchick I like Theodore best, but I prefer the nickname Theo over Teddy.
  • @mdfarmchick Samuel and Theodore are my top 2 out of those.  :)  Samuel was in my top picks when we named my 2 year old
    BabyFruit Ticker

  • Another vote for Theodore.  I also like Theo better.
  • @mdfarmchick Theodore (I love Teddy, too) or Samuel.
  • I like Nathaniel Joseph.
  • @slr1229 no clue.
I have Gabriel and Alaina already.
    Then we like-
    Eliza
    Selene
    Paige
    Annika

our boy names I am not even sure
    of any of them-
    rhys
    Landon
    Declan

  • @megpeg I LOVE Rhys and Declan. They were both on my favorites list that my husband shot down.
  • @megpeg I feel ya.  I think it’s also harder when you’re not finding out!  We have two names each and I figured we’d just wait until we see their face, but it’s still on my mind a lot!
