It has occurred to me this week that I have been COMPLETELY spacing out on taking my prenatals.  I took them religiously for almost 2 years while TTC, but stopped around week 6 or so of pregnancy because of how sick I was.  Just that few weeks was all it took to break my good habit.  :| I'm lucky if I remember to take it once a week these days.  I have a semi-good diet although I can't say it's as well-rounded as it was prepregnancy, so who knows if I'm getting enough folate from food.  Sigh... I didn't know I could feel mom guilt so early!

ETA: @MJDsquared @dkizz82 Sneezing is the WORST.  I try to hold my lower abdomen when I do, but it still feels like my ovaries are trying to shoot out of my legs.

  • @elcd458 I had to stop taking my prenatal vitamin too, but my doctor told me to keep taking my FABB (folic acid) tablets which I unfortunately missed a few days. I have not been eating healthy, just eating what works for the nausea so I have a little guilt over that. I've just started taking the prenatals again yesterday. Luckily, the babies will take all of our nutrients before our body uses them so since you've been eating well, I don't think you should worry about it. My doc said the folic acid is most important in the 1st trimester and the prenatals are important after that. I'm no doctor, but try not to worry too much. We do what we can in that first trimester and plus, there are many women who don't even know that they are pregnant until late in the first trimester and their babies are fine. Here's to us all remembering to take our vitamins because pregnancy brain is real LOL.

@elcd458, just reading about prenatals triggered my gag reflex.

between crying all the time and dry heaving anytime I see anything remotely "icky," I'm a mess this time around.
  • Today I have cramps/lower back pain on my right side (it's mostly in the back now, but started out more cramp-like) but I don't feel it when I sit down. Anyone else ever experience something like that?

  • @MJDsquared I don't have that issue, so I don't have any advice.

I've just switched to Zofran for nausea now that I'm in the 2nd trimester and holy constipation! I spent most of yesterday afternoon in the bathroom because the cramping felt better when I sat in that position. Thank God for Colace! My stomach finally calmed down in the evening. I already had bowel issues due to endometriosis so I think it was probably a result of both the meds and the endometriosis.

  • So the constant back pain/cramping felt waaay worse when I got up to pee a few minutes ago, so I finally decided to call my OB's office. Of course, as I'm pacing while I'm on hold it starts to lessen. Then I sit down and...nothing. And I just got up to pee again to see what would happen and...yeah, it's gone.

Apparently the trick to get it to go away was to finally call my OB after holding out because I didn't want to seem like a crazy FTM who worries about everything. Yay. (Or maybe once I post this it'll come back. Who knows.)

  • I can't stop pooping... NOt sure if its a virus (because one of my boys is pooping a ton lately too) or a side effect from the progesterone shot I started last week.  Either way, it's rather annoying!!

  • I'm 16 weeks today and am having severe shoooting in my pelvic/vaginal region. I've noticed it especially when carrying my daughter. It's painful enough that it catches me off guard and makes me wince but it's not constant. Has anyone had anything like this? I didn't have any pelvic discomfort last time until much much later along.

@kaylawing My instinct is that it's normal stretching/growing pains.  Or if it's really just a sudden pull and then it's gone it could be RLP.  But when I get any stretching pains or RLP I always drink a ton of water and then slow way down, and stop lifting and moving so much.  Once they go away I resume normal activities.

  • @whiska. It has definitely gotten worse throughout the day and now it hurts to walk at all whether I'm holding my daughter or not and stairs are almost unbearable. Im officially nervous that something is wrong- but I am a worry wart anyway. I'm going to take it easy tonight and see how I feel tomorrow.

@leilagphillips I'm sorry it got worse! :frowning:  I haven't experienced lightning crotch/vag like @dkizz82 suggested, beyond a few shooting pains that last a few seconds and then go away, but that's an idea too.  I would call my ob's office to see what they think.  Fx it goes away with some water and rest!

  • @kaylawing yep, sounds like lightning crotch to me too. I never experienced this with dd, but  from what I understand it is a fairly common symptom. As far as I know it is harmless, just painful

My biggest concern is my umblilical hernia that keeps getting worse.  Doc says he'll do surgery 6-8 weeks after delivery if it still bothers me.  I can't lift anything right now and have to wear tape or a compression bellyband all the time.

Ive been more tired in the 2nd tri than the first!

  • Yikes lightening crotch is the worst!

I already posted about this on the crying thread but my hands and feet itch tonight. I have a history of cholestasis in my previous pregnancies but the itching has never started this early. 16+3 as of today. I am praying it's just a random thing.
  • @speach13 ugggg my hands and feet did that with DD. It was just a prefnnat symptom. It was awful. I was thankful it wasn't cholestatis.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @dkizz82 The newer research out about cholestasis definitely puts my mind at ease concerning any risk to the baby so that's a good thing at least.
  • @speach13 i'm sorry to hear. hopefully it doesn't manifest itself fully (at all) or until later on.

@ameliabedelia-2  whatever happened with your CT scan? are you alright?

  • Sorry if this is TMI. I ended up in the emergency room because I was so constipated that blood was coming out. I had to have an enema which felt like bloody murder. Finally was able to get relief but now on two meds so that I can go the bathroom. The doctor during the exam said he had never seen it this bad in someone my age.
  • @miltbaby Oh no! That sounds awful! I'm sorry you had to go through that, but hopefully the medication helps!

  • @Marley629 - oh no!  I get them in the middle of the night all the time when not pregnant, mostly when I haven't been watching my liquid intake. So make sure you're staying hydrated. Also - eating bananas are also supposed to help (although I never eat a banana to fix the situation, given mine happen in the middle of the night).

@miltbaby - that's sounds terrible! So sorry!  Hopefully the medicine helps and you don't have to experience that again.

  • @miltbaby That really sucks! I'm glad you gave some relief. I almost felt like going to the ER for that same reason the other day. I have bowel issues outside of pregnancy and my stomach hurt so bad I was in tears. Thankfully, a little Colace helped a lot. I'm still not regular, but at least it isn't as painful. Do you mind if I ask what they prescribed for you?
  • Thank you @Tennis11785. I was prob def a bit dehydrated last night as had a bad MS day. But I did pick up bananas today at the grocery store!

  • @anewadventure, thanks for checking in. I have not been feeling well at all. I went back to the neurologist today and they were able to schedule my MRI for next week. My insurance takes several days to approve that test because of the cost. Meanwhile, the doctor wants me to take a week off work because she thinks the stress is making whatever it is worse.  I let my pig of a boss know and he hasn't responded to my email, so we will see what happens with that.

Oh no! Is it related to your prenatal? They can cause constipation due to iron.
  • @miltbaby Thanks for letting me know! In addition to pregnancy causing constipation, Zofran is contributing as well for me.
  • I had some spotting and went to the ER yesterday. Apparently I have a low lying placenta and the OB said no sex and no exercise to heavy lifting until my next appointment. She said the placenta may move on its own and not to worry.
I looked up placenta previa on the internet and now I'm scared. Has anyone had to go through this?
  • @ameliabedelia-2  woof. i'm so sorry you have to wait.

  • @yodalsgreen I don't have any experience with placenta previa, but just wanted you to know that I'll be thinking positive thoughts and praying for you (just an FYI, I'm spiritual, not religious so I hope my praying doesn't offend you). Google can be a good source, but also can cause unnecessary worry. I'm sure it's hard not to use it, but just remember that they have to list the worst possible outcomes. However, that doesn't mean that's what will happen in your case.
  • My left nipple is like crazy. It burns so so bad. I remember this happening with DD too. It's kinda like my bra irritates it. So weird. My BP was also already up yesterday. It's way too early. I'm only 18 weeks. Luckily the new dosage of labatelol has brought it down.

  • @Marley629 ugh charlie horses are the worst! Here and there I feel one coming on when I first wake up but move my leg quickly so that it goes away. I definitely need to increase my water and potassium intake.

@dkizz82 I'm also having weird left boob stuff. Last night it was bothering me so bad so I investigated and found a dark blue vein that I've never seen before on my side boob. It was very tender to the touch but this morning I woke up and it was feeling fine. Pregnancy boobs are weird.

  • I also get low back pain especially if walking more than 20-30 minutes. I get upper back pain standing too long.. my headaches seem to be tapered off for now.. I have lots of chin hairs I'm constantly plucking. I could shave my legs and armpits daily lol. And despite being 17 weeks I'm still pretty tired.
  • @clovelyone Thanks for the kind words. I am trying to stay positive and distracting myself with work.
  • @YodaIsGreen I had a low lying placenta with DS and bled the entire 1st tri. It moved on its own at 26 weeks and all was well (vaginal delivery with zero complications). I know it is hard not to worry but your Dr will watch it closely and guide you. As long as it's not placenta accreta (sp?) you'll most likely be just fine.
  • I know this is wayyy TMI- so scroll past if you're squirmy!

I was diagnosed with HPV about 8 years ago, had a coloscopy and it came back negative for any signs of cancer or precancerous cells. I also have never had any symptoms or signs of HPV this whole time. Now I've found what I think are genital warts in a very small area (thank you to that awful Google search). I found 1 thread that talked about a certain strain of HPV that causes them while you're pregnant due to the increased discharge creating an ideal atmosphere. Has anyone gone through this or been treated for something similar during pregnancy?

I have an appt with my MFM on Tuesday, but should I schedule a separate appt with my regular OB?
  • @KathrynJ088 Since you already have an appt at MFM, I'd call them and tell them what's going on, and they will tell you if they think you should see your regular OB for it or if it's something they can take care of.
  • @elcd458 I thought about doing that today and then pregnancy brain happened! Thanks for the reminder, I'll try to remember on Monday, and I've already written it down on my list of questions for my next appointment
