My obgyn asked if my husband and I wanted "alone time" before they broke my water to see if things would get started! And we were told to come in the night before so it definitely happens in the hospital!!

I don't know why this grosses me out so much, but my inner 12 year old is just screaming "eeeeeewwwwwwwwwww." I mean, it makes sense, but it feels so wrong.

Same! I mean obviously that's how we got pregnant in the first place, but it would be extremely weird to know people are just waiting out in the hall for us.
Anyone have experience with cleaning a pack n play type item? My sister loaned me an Arms Reach CoSleeper, and it looks a bit grungy. The pad / mattress might have some type of cardboard in it though so I don't want to get it too wet, so I'm looking for more of an overall spot cleaning solution that's baby safe yet sanitizing.

Omg I know. And you'd still be hooked up to the monitors so they'd be monitoring heart rate and stuff. Yeahhhh no thanks, just start the pitocin and break my water.

I didn't even think about being on the monitors still!

I just did this. I sprayed the mattress and around the top of the PNP with a spot cleaner (shout). And turned the bathtub on super hot water and filled it up, I put a cap full of laundry detergent in it while it was filling. I put the mattress in face down and the pnp (folded up) and put it on top of the mattress bc it kept floating up. I left it for 15-30 minutes and the water was disgusting. I put it outside to dry for 24 hours to get all of the moisture out. It looks brand new. You can also Pinterest it, that's where I got it from but most of those call for baking soda, I didn't use it.
Eta I also did it with my summer infant side sleeper.
I've been reading a lot of birth stories lately and a few of them have mentioned that during labor, the health care provider has done something without their consent. Like, breaking their water, stripping their membranes, an episiotomy...
I understand in an emergency situation, but outside of that, it seems like a major violation. Did anyone have these things happen without being asked? How can you prevent that?
@theweevee being informed is the best thing you can do. If your provider is saying "ok I'm going to break your water now" you can ABSOLUTELY SAY NO. Also express your concerns ahead of time to your nurse, so they can advocate for you. Often doctors say they are doing something in a matter of fact way instead of asking your permission. Often it is what needs to be done (like if you're 8cm with bag of water still in tact, breaking your water will usually get you to 10cm quickly, where it can be hours with the bag still intact, and if you're without medicine those hours are a lifetime.) but it's still your body and your labor. If you are coping well, and baby is fine...why do you need an intervention? Also make sure you ask about the risks and benefits of what they're doing.
at least in my experience episiotomies are NOT done routinely and only done if baby's heart rate is low and not coming up in the final stages of delivery. Sometimes it's that or vacuum. But of the 20-30 providers I work with only one does them a lot (and that's still <50% of his FTM deliveries). Everyone else lets you tear naturally. Also the breaking of the water is sometimes done in an emergency to put a heart monitor on the baby's head if they are having many drops in heart rate. It gives a better idea of the exact heart rate during position changes to try and recover the heart rate instead of just rushing you for a c-section.
Again, being informed is the best thing you can do. That doesn't mean refusing all interventions, because sometimes a small intervention prevents jumping to an automatic larger one. If you understand the reasoning behind each intervention at a stage in labor then you will be better equipped to make a decision yourself rather than just go with what the provider says. But studies show that breaking your water in a FTM early on <6cm DOES NOT speed up labor. Only in STM+. The only thing it does is make shit get real, real quick in terms of pain.
I am a huge advocate of stripping membranes only because it worked for me...but it shouldn't be done without your consent. Most providers will NOT do it if you are GBS+ because of the risk of it breaking your water before labor starts.
Again, I hope you have a level of trust and support with your provider that they wouldn't do these things. But this is your body so know that you have a right to refuse many things...but the best thing you can do is understand why all of the interventions are being done. Just the fact that you're asking these questions shows that you are aware of things that go on and that's awesome.

Hey all. Is it normal for morning sickness to come back at the end? I've been feeling pretty terrible and can barely eat. It's been a few days since I've been able to have a normal meal.

I don't know how normal it is but it's definitely not just you. I feel like all my aversions from first trimester have come back in the past week or so. To be honest though, mine never completely went away. I've been taking unisom/b6 and every time I've tried to wean off it (3 times now) I've been sick again so I'm pretty much resolved to just continuing it, even though it's not 100% effective.
@julybaby17-2@CPR79 My heartburn is definitely back, along with food picky-ness, and combo of being starving and unable to eat. It's a little different than 1st tri, but just as annoying. I blame all of my organs being squished now, more than the hormonal stuff from before (not that the hormones have gone away!).
I've had morning and evening sickness the ENTIRE pregnancy but it's definitely gotten worse the last two weeks. I'm never hungry and any hot food makes me nauseous. I'm usually able to force myself to eat something for lunch but I haven't been able to the last 4 days. Pumpkin seeds are helping get me through the day by sprinkling salt on them and just munching a few when I can.
@theweeve I am one that had things done without knowing. I would also suggest your husband be aware and alert for you. For instance, I was indude- cervadil. I was so freaking excited to have the baby that I wasn't sleeping- they offered benadryl, I accepted and passed out. I woke up and they had already started pitocin when I was asleep. I was furious. DH saw them come in with a new bag but didn't think to ask what it was. This time, he's got "be a hawk" type instructions.
@nktrodden826 I feel you, I am in the exact same place. I had a month reprieve from puking right around 7 month (and even then I didn't have an appetite). This has pretty much been 9 months of puking. I only have gained 7lbs this pregnancy, granted I went into it weighing more than when I got pregnant with my last two but still.
Does anyone have recommendations on a PNP sheet for a Graco Quick Connect? I bought one sheet at BRU this weekend and it feels like sandpaper. I don't even think I'd use it for a dog blanket. Can you just use a normal crib sheet and pull it tightly? Also, do you typically put a mattress pad on a PnP?

I would put a mattress pad, just because I wouldn't want to clean those flimsy pack n play board pads! I bought a bunch of "multi-purpose waterproof pads" and I'm sleeping on one and put one in the co-sleeper, so that may work too. They make quilted and jersey, and I think even minky, playard sheets. I didn't get a pack n play, but I have a couple for the playard mattress that's in my dog's crate, although mostly I've used normal crib sheets because I'm not concerned about the fit in there! I wouldn't for an infant, though, they are definitely way too loose and the wrong shape.

I have a really dumb question about car seat covers! Are they okay to use in the heat? I know their purpose is for privacy and to shield from the elements but I'm nervous about the baby overheating in summer. I'm only in PA but it's not abnormal to have temps in the 80's and 90's. The two that I do have are like a soft, stretchy jersey material and not heavy.

I don't think so. I mean, if you are just carrying the seat from point A to point B I am sure it's fine, but I wouldn't leave it on if you plan to be outside in the extreme heat for an extended period of time. I think it would create a greenhouse effect.

I agree. I would only use a carseat cover in the winter. I never had one for my May baby. I used muslin A+A blankets if I needed to shield him from the sun.
@AdaByron@Rae1-3 I agree about the greenhouse effect, that's why I was so curious. I was at an arts festival last week and the heat was horrendous and I did see a Mom walking around and waiting in lines with the car seat cover so I was just questioning it after that. I have a bunch of the muslin swaddles too, I like that idea as well! Thanks ladies!
I've been seeing a few articles warning about that exact situation @kat0607. I would think it would be fine to get from the car inside and vice versa, but I wouldn't leave it on like that. The car seat is warm enough already. That would for sure make it too hot after an extended period.
On that note... the windows on the back of my car are pretty tinted - do I still need one of those window shades?
I don't have tinted windows and never used window shades anyway. It wasn't much of an issue for us. I think its a personal preference. You could wait to see if its an issue when LO is here and then go get one if you think you need it.

This. I never felt like I needed a window shade. My H had one in his car, and that's the car we used for long trips, so it probably was helpful at some point, but I wouldn't call it a necessity.

Some people get a little over-cautious in the sun depending on how you feel about using sunscreen on your newborn. I think a stroller with a sunshield would be a much better option than a car seat cover. But I also would put sunscreen on the baby if I was going to be out in the summer, rather than keeping the baby covered up all day.
There are lots of lightweight, more breathable carseat covers (like Aden & Anais makes one that is basically a swaddle with velcro to attach to the handle). This is our plan for the summer months. I also have one of the stretchy types, but I think we will like the drape of the cotton better.
I love Aden & Anais muslin swaddle blankets as a multi purpose cover!! Car seat, stroller, nursing, diaper changer, the list goes on. Great option for the heat.
Can I just use socks as mitts ? I'm fed up of the details.
They'd probably stay on better!
In one of our classes the nurse who was teaching said she doesn't recommend mittens anyway bc it discourages babies from rooting (is that the right word??) around in their mouths, which is a signal of hunger. Im totally not saying not to use mittens or that I won't. But I had never heard that before and thought it was an interesting tidbit.
@ginger1228 that's interesting to know, I was thinking along the same lines, i don't want to buy them because most of the time baby likes to eat his/her own hands. But I can see why you need to cover their hands (long nails, scratching their eyes etc) so il just cover the hands in socks lol.
I never put mittens on DS and occasionally he'd scratch his face but not often enough to put mittens on, I'd just cut/file his nails. The only people who would notice were like elderly strangers who always want to be nosy and look in the stroller and they'd point out that I should put mittens on him **eyeroll**
Is it really bad that I'm so scared about getting a c section? I can't sleep at night because I am so nervous about it. My husband is on my nerves and doesn't understand that I can't do it all. I am a stay at home mom to a 1 year old. And, fixing to have my second baby on the 29th. I'm overwhelmed, and feel lonely, and emotional. I try to keep my emotions to myself as much as I can.... what are some ways that I can try to relax? Not feel lonel

I'm sorry you're feeling like this but if you're having that much anxiety, about a c-section then you should probably ask your doctor for help.
@Knottieb1e39a78370bdee2 I can completely understand why a c section would scare you. Have you talked to your doctor about it? He or she may be able to walk you through the process of what to expect. Do you have any friends who have had c sections?
As for your DH, I agree that he needs to understand how difficult it is to be so pregnant and still get things done. Have you talked to him about it?
