@rkstro2: I'm in the same boat. 33 weeks and this LO is head up right now. I'm having weekly u/s and for 2 wks in a row, it was all "he's head down! that's great! getting into position!" and then last week it was like a deflated whomp-whomp was heard throughout the OB office. "He needs to start behaving again!" the doc exclaimed, so I'm like "okay, but when do you really start to worry about his position?" and she said at 35 weeks. So, I feel ya. I have 2 weeks to get him head down again, lest the doc becomes concerned for reals about it. I, too, want to do as much as possible to help him turn (in a safe way). Last time, my son was breech for a bit also and I believe the yoga I was doing really helped, so I need to get on that again. Doing daily exercises sounds like an attainable goal. FX for us both!
To all the STMs who are feeling weird about adding another, don't worry! It's also ok if you still prefer kid #1 over kid #2 for a short while after the baby is born. Makes sense, because you KNOW kid #1 and you have barely met kid #2!
As a TTM I am feeling the same way. We've got such a good thing going in this family...why are we mixing it up? Then again, the fact that we have a good thing going and that the kids love each other so much reminds me that they'll love this one as well and it will all be ok.
So here is my random question for the group -- does anyone know what causes one's sex drive to change during pregnancy? I don't remember this happening in my other pregnancies, but this time around for about a month I had a very active sex drive...like more active than pretty much ever. In my other pregnancies (and for most of this one), my drive was REDUCED because I felt like crap (esp first trimester). Anyway, during this active time we still didn't DTD that much because DH or I was sick but I just had a lot of desire. Then when we did DTD the positions we had to use were so annoying I didn't even orgasm, but I still was so glad we did it and still had strong desire to do it again the next time. Now it's gone/back to normal but it was going strong in Feb/March.
I guess I'm also wondering whether this is any indication of having a girl vs. a boy because we're team green and I'm having the hardest time guessing (somehow I guessed the other two correctly and with ease.)
Random, this baby has been doing the weirdest things tonight. She was moving like crazy earlier and it felt very odd, like she was pushing against places she doesn't usually. Then, I felt her hiccuping for several minutes basically right in my behind. And I had all this low pressure and had to run to the bathroom several times when she hit my bladder just so. She's settled down now and feels more normal, but that was definitely odd for a bit.
@kat81 I have a poor sex drive normally outside of pregnancy (thanks PCOS) but with my first (it was a girl) it was even lower than normal. If I recall, maybe it was a little more in second trimester but I was still throwing up daily and was on pelvic rest for a previa so no sex. By the time I was cleared I was in the third trimester and not feeling up to it again. This time (Team Blue) my sex drive has been off the charts. Maybe TMI but we DTD probably every other or every three days. Which blows our pre-pregnancy normal out of the water (think once a month, maybe). So maybe there is something to different boys vs girls in utero?
About presents - I got DD a little boy baby doll with a small set of fake diaper bag stuff (diapers, wipes, baby powder, bottle, pacifier, etc). I'll get a little backpack to put it in and then when she comes to meet baby she can go home with her own "baby bubba"
I read all the posts, and I am left wondering, what can I do to prevent my LO from getting flathead? Also, random question, but is it possible to feel baby kicks kind of by my butt?

Try laying baby with head at alternate ends of the changing table and crib each time you lay them down. And tummy time.
@kat81 absolutely no sex drive this time and huge sex drive last time, both boys, sorry.
on the RNP discussion, FWIW they don't meet Australian standards and cannot be purchased here at all. In fact I think it's illegal to use one (like drop side cribs)

I used the RNP for DD1 for naps and overnights but readjusted the angle to make it less of an incline (with firm quilts- not that it makes it any safer). I sold it after we were done with it, but was planning to buy another until I read through this post (thankfully changed my mind!).. Has anyone used the RNP bassinet, rather than the inclined seat? I saw it on amazon and it has the flat sleeping surface which I'm wanting to start off with right away with DD2. The transition from RNP to crib was terrible with DD1. If anyone's used the RNP bassinet, please share your opinions!
I've started eating dates each day. It's a common "old wives tale" here in the Middle East and I started researching it. There's a small study so far proving it significantly reduces labor time as well as reduces induction and interventions. It's a pretty impressive small study.
Anyone else gonna give this a try? (Note. It is not an induction food. It will not bring on labor)
@sarah0985 I mean it's certainly interesting, and the other thing being 6 dates a day for 4 weeks isn't going to do you any harm, so why not, even if it does nothing you haven't done any harm by trying.

@partiallydomesticated that's kind of my thoughts that it won't do harm. I wish there was more studies. There's tons of blogs but I like science haha. Plus I figured I'd at least pass on the study so others can decide if they wanted to as well.

@kat81 - I'm sure this isn't overly helpful, but with both pregnancies now, my sex drive has completely disappeared. First pregnancy was a boy, and this is a girl - so I'm not sure if it really makes a huge difference.
@michelle59-2 - lots of tummy time will definitely help! It can be hard to get a lot of it in, because babies don't necessarily love it early on.
Was creeping on here last night and saw all the posts about the RNP. SO SO SO grateful that I read them because I was given a hand me down RNP to use as a bassinet. I will no longer be using it. Between the posts on here and what I then read online, I am debating on just getting rid of it all together. Hoping I can get a real bassinet before baby girl is here.
@BeachMommy2B at my last WIC appt they taught me that when you have baby in the room with you they will adapt to your sleeping patterns and startle awake when you do. It keeps baby from falling in to too deep of a sleep which can help prevent SIDs.
The RNP was a life saver for DD with reflux. We'll use it this time around for playtime and maybe a few daytime naps here and there. I guess I need to research it more, but the sides are mesh, so I wasn't concerned about asphyxiation. The transition to a flat surface was tough, so I want to try to have baby sleep on a flat surface as often as possible.
The reality is though that we all want to keep our babies as safe as possible. We have to do what works for us. Personally, if he falls asleep in the swing and it means we can finish picking up the living room, I'll keep an eye on him while I clean. Life is tough and busy and we can't do it all perfectly all the time.

Trying to catch up. My siblings are on spring break this week so we have been doing lots of things.
I for sure have all those STM fears. I'm also just think sometimes I am not cut out to be a mom I am not patient at all.
@kat81 I had a low sex drive with DD. I have a high sex drive with this LO who is supposed to be a boy.
I forget who asked but we bought DD Buzz Lightyear. She has been asking for him so it's going to be her big sister gift. It's the legit one from the Disney store. I also made a busy bag with new coloring books, a Mr potato head, and some playdough that I've found on clearance. This is mainly for when DD is with my mom to help out when I'm in the hospital.
I have a RNP for this time around mainly for cooking dinner/showe. I bought a super fancy flat bassinet and I have the Halo Bassinest so we will try those things this time around. I'm pro RNP, but the weight isn't super high in it and we had to take DD out at 3 months (she could roll over - I think that's the rule?) So she couldn't sleep in it anymore.
I will I'll cut off my arm if that means this kid is a better sleeper than DD. Sometimes I cry just thinking about it.
Re: the sleep surface convo, we have multiple options lined up to test with this LO. Not at the risk of her safety, of course. I have the RNP bassinet (flat surface) waiting next to my bed with an attached little vibrator thingy in case she needs motion like DS did to help her fall asleep. We also have the crib (obviously) and a RNP that will likely be used for naps. At night, we will try to keep her in the flat surface bassinet, but I will definitely be more lenient with daytime sleep and naps. As long as I'm awake and in the room, I will likely let her nap wherever she falls asleep (car seat, boppy pillow, RNP) and just keep an eye on her. In theory, I could attempt to move her to a flat space, but I already lived this rodeo once before and remember how important those hours of silence were. FWIW, DS slept for the first 5 WEEKS in his SWING...like with a full on swinging motion. The pediatrician said it was fine although not ideal. I'm sure given the change of thoughts on sleep surfaces that it would no longer be encouraged, but I remember at the time thinking anything that would get the kid to sleep for more than 45 minutes was a viable option.
Thinking about the lack of sleep in my future is already making me sad. DS is a 7-7 sleeper now and it's LOVELY.
Overheard in the OB's office: a woman was on her way out, having stopped at the desk to make her next appointment. She was asked "When are you due?" to which she replied: "9/24." My first thought was "oh, September, that's nice" and after a slight pause in my brain my second thought was "omg, I'll have a 4-month-old by then?!?"
@momma2char I have the RnP bassinet. It's a basic, no-frills bassinet. DS slept in his for probably 3 months and then he got too long (he was a freakishly tall kid). It rocks back and forth which was kind of nice, but the range of motion is really limited on the rocking mechanism so it won't help a ton if your kid needs a lot of motion. It was enough to get DS to settle if he started to wake up at any point. Anyway, I wouldn't rave about thr RnP bassinet because there's nothing particularly special about it but it definitely does the job and is safe for overnight sleep.
@sarah0985 so interesting you posted about dates. I was creeping on the March board and reading a thread about labor and several women posted that they were eating dates to induce labor. I'd never heard dates had anything to do with labor. Sounds like they won't help with induction but interesting there may be some other benefits.
Lots to catch up on. Been in triage again. It makes for very interesting "listening material". Last night a 14 yo came in, then a woman who was about 9 cm , then an irate SO had his words with the nurse....it was interesting to say the least. Ultimately they sent me home. I have decided to only schedule appts from here on out in the am because by the pm my feet are swollen and I've been getting riled up by my court clients that my bp is high.
I've been emotionally drained a bit thinking about lack of sleep and crying over "lack of love" for these two and how could I love two more on top of the 3 at home.
no sex drive here. DH is a trooper.
they also told me that they will induce about 4-18, which doesn't suit me because I want to wait another few days so I can go to my brothers wedding on 4-22:/ grrrr
@rainydays86 off to go lurk! It definitely won't induce labor from anything I read but the mean average difference in labor was 8 hours shorter for those that ate dates. It's an impressive small study. I just wish there was more information on it. I just like to read studies. If I have the option of a 15 hour labor (mean length for non-date eaters) or a 7 hour labor (mean length for date eaters) I'll eat dates all day. Haha. Obviously no guarantee but can't hurt

@sara0985 I think it was in the "Anyone still pregnant" thread. And I'm all about trying stuff that isn't harmful and may have a benefit. I've been reading a ton of cancer-related studies and have found so many small things that are backed by one study that I figure it's worth just trying because why not. And with regards to this study, dates are delicious so really why not.
With my last baby someone told me to eat a pineapple to induce labor. I thought that sounded weird and didn't put any faith in it. But I had a pineapple that I'd purchased the day before. I ate the whole thing that day and started labor that night haha. I'll never know if that was it but it was pretty funny to me. We also had just done a Disneyland day and had sex so there's many factors.
@KMD1106 Just to clarify, the positional asphyxiation concern in the inclined RNP is due to the incline, not the mesh sides. Specifically, that a baby may slump enough to cut off their air supply. No judgement. I just wanted to clarify that for anyone reading the comments who may have missed that.
I read all the posts, and I am left wondering, what can I do to prevent my LO from getting flathead? Also, random question, but is it possible to feel baby kicks kind of by my butt?
YES it is possible to feel kicks in your butt area (well if the baby is head down, it's more like head butts, probably). I've been getting a lot of these this pregnancy. I can literally feel the baby kick me in a way that my butt cheeks then flatten down to my seat a bit. It's SO weird! But yes, you can feel it there.
Oh and as for flat head we definitely gave both of our kids a flat head from them lying on their backs but then they naturally rounded out once they started sleeping other ways. Never needed a helmet or anything.
I'm sure I could google this, and I feel like I have read something somewhere, but forget now. When do you start tummy time?
You can start pretty early on, like in the first month, maybe a couple of weeks in (or perhaps when the belly button thing falls off). But they'll just lie there for a while. By 2 months they can push up...they'll be pissed doing it, but they can. At 3 months they can sometimes really push up and hold it a long time and have their heads up high. Maybe even flip over.
Re: gifts to siblings from baby, we are just getting toys the kids want. Mine are obsessed with PJ Masks right now so that's what they are getting. I figured it will be a more memorable experience if it's something they love.
Re: sex drive, my 3 pregnancies have been different. I think it's mostly driven by bloodflow down there. 1st pregnancy I had it highest during 2nd and 3rd trimesters (boy), 2nd pregnancy during 1st tri (girl), and this one end of 1st tri and all of 2nd tri (boy).

At this point, we only plan to room share until I go back to work. However, once baby comes we may decide to leave them in our room a bit longer.
Tummy time: In my infant CPR the nurse said the day you bring them home from the hospital. She means skin to skin on your chest though, she said that's good practice to start. Then once their belly button falls off start trying it several times a day, for only a couple minutes at a time.
It seems like evey time I go for my appts (I'm 35 today w di/di twin girls and go mondays and thursdays now) my bp is 140/70ish and for me that is high, I have protein in my urine and by the afternoon my feet are a bit swollen. So because of those three things, now twice they have sent me to triage to put the babies on the monitor. It is such a hassle and annoying. I'm willing to do anything for the babies so I go willingly....it just takes an extra couple hours out of our nightly routine. Hoping for am visits before work and before swollen feet here on out
thanks @kat81 and @nda_roxybabe! Seems so early, but what do I know! (FTM) Makes sense for the skin to skin to be tummy time, didn't even think about it!
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
Like @nda_roxybabe mentioned above, placing the baby on your chest on their stomach counts as tummy time. Whether they move their head/neck depends on the kid. DD could lift her head and had crazy neck strength at birth. Not all kids do that and it shouldn't be expected.
@Jens_Hoes For safe sleep safety purposes, I'd say they are all the same and the most conservative recommendation would be that they should never be used for sleep. I like to call them, plus jumparoos, etc., "baby jails." They are a great place to put the kid when they aren't being held or laying on the floor/working on tummy time. Also, as others have mentioned, most of these things have an expiration date of when the kid starts rolling or sitting up, although maybe some get more mileage on that than others. DD sat by 6mos so all of that equipment was obsolete after the first 6 mos.

Oh yeah I forgot about skin-to-skin tummy time. Yeah just having them lie on you (or DH or whomever), belly down, is not only super fun, but also good training for them. I forgot that we did that a lot and so when we were doing "real" tummy time with DS (on a flat surface like a floor/mat), he got very good at it very quickly. Come to think of it both of my kids were good with neck/head control early on...thank God, because that's one of those newborn things I have so little patience for! haha

^^^All of this. Our swing was broken in our last move and I'm trying really hard to just rely on the bouncer for this baby because I don't want to buy a swing (it's our last baby) knowing that by 6 months it's really not usable.
I've never had a RnP although I do remember how appealing it sounded with DD2. Like many of you I was adamant on DD2 being a better sleeper than DD1! It was rough in the beginning but I just kept putting her in the PnP or her crib for naps. I wanted her to be used to the flat surface from the beginning even thought they HATE it. My girls hated the basinnet from the moment they were born, even in the hospital they wouldn't sleep on the flat surface. I think DD2 was/is a much better sleeper now because I was so diligent about making her sleep on the flat surfaces.
