@bluejeanbabi05 I looooooove Elena. DH was like "meh" like with every other girl's name. Party pooper.

Lol @jessafishy I also have a bit of a deep, dark secret with that name I haven't shared with DH. The family thing is the party line, and also the truth, just only part of it.
When I was 16 I read a vampire trilogy I loved, and Elena was the main character.
This trilogy may or may not have become a tv show starring Nina Dobrev.
@bluejeanbabi05 Umm... The Vampire Diaries is my jam. Haha. I didn't even read the books and only started watching the show a few years ago. It's my guilty teen-drama pleasure show.

I don't know if you have watched any of the spin-off series The Originals, but I was trying to get DH on board with Freya for awhile too. No shame.

Just because I want to feel like the cool kids, here are names I have on my own personal list that I have not discussed with DH at all yet
boys: Jaxon Matix Rowen
Girls: River Sadie Rowan
edit to add: DDs are Kylie and Brynn
DD's name is Sadie! I was about 5 months pregnant and DH came in and said "I have the perfect name for a girl, I got it from Duck Dynasty!" Believe me, I was NOT excited to hear it, but then he said it and I fell in love. It suits her perfectly. Someone in my old BMB said it didn't sound like a serious adult name ("I've never heard of a CEO named Sadie") but I was completely in love with that name and still am
BFP#1: 12/3/13 EDD 8/15/13. Heartbeat found on 12/26/13, HB gone on 1/4/13. D&C 1/7/13
BFP#2: 4/19/13 EDD 12/28/13. Team Green for pregnancy and Baby Girl arrived 12/21/13. BFP#3: 2/9/13 EDD 10/18/17. Team Green for Round 2!
Does anyone else hear a name and have to picture themselves calling a baby, a toddler, and an adult that name? I also have to picture myself yelling out the back door "*name*! Time for dinner!" If I can't see myself doing all of those it's a no.
Our girl name has always been Kay just plain ol Kay, and I love it so much. Not sure about boys I have been leaning towards Shepard "Shep"and DH likes August "Gus". I guess we would flip a coin.
We will probably have a boy since we cannot seem to agree on anything there. DH wants Arthur, which I really don't like as a first name. I can compromise as a middle name. I like Julian, Jude, and Jack for boys but all I get is a "meh" from those. We will hopefully come up with something soon.
My great grandmother and DH's grandmother are both named Ruby, so I'm pushing for that for a girl's name DH's other grandmother was Claire, so I think Ruby Claire sounds great. I really like naming kids after people for some reason.
if this one is a girl we are thinking mavis ellise probably some more but those are top 2
if it's another boy we are kinda running out of names lol! Plus there were some boys born in the family within the last couple years that took some options. so far we are considering (keeping with the Irish names) rowan cathal (KA-hal)
SO and I are set on a little boys name: Conrad Eugene, named after my dad and carrying on the middle name of his family on the boys side. For a girl, we have no clue! I really like Hazel Amara but SO doesn't like Hazel but is okay with Amara. I would love to have a fall name since my name is Autumn and I was born in November. It would just be fun to keep it going. The little one was also conceived on one of our trips to New Orleans so I'm trying to think of names that could be associated with that- but I don't think Hand Grenade or Bourbon Street would be appropriate
@canonmom413 River is one of my favorite names! Might be because of Doctor Who but still a great name for a strong little girl.
- Laurel - Not even going to lie, came from a TV show. I loved it from the very first time I heard it on "How to Get Away with Murder" back when it first premiered and nothing has bumped it out of the #1 spot between then and now.
- Elisabetta - This is my DH's Italian Grandmother's name. He suggested it and I loved how it sounded with Laurel.
Honestly, names were surprisingly simple for us, haha.
Me: 31 DH: 35 Married since 05.16.2009 Expecting #1: 10.10.2017
@purplestars fwiw, my FILs family is all J names - his parents, him and his brother. His uncle was also. And our last name starts with a J. Not weird to us! Lol
Also, all of our kids are 6 letters. Not originally on purpose. We always had Carson picked out for our boy name since we were dating. We ended up having a girl first and she ended up with a 6 letter name. So when our second was a boy and we named him Carson, we had two 6-letter names. Got pregnant with #3 and couldn't bring ourselves to make her the "oddball". So now #4 has to have 6 letters too. It makes it super hard though
Boy names: Landon Carter -which will probably get axed since it's too similar to Carson (DS)
Girl names: Hannah- but I'm super hesitant since it's too traditional and we don't have incredibly "old fashioned/traditional" names for traditional he other kids
@Uhlease13 it fit my DD so perfectly. Funny story with her name. Heard it back on MTV real world Las Vegas. Liked it ever since. The girl was a fire cracker. When DD 1 was in preschool, word got out we were naming DD2 Brynn. Her director said " super cute. We had a little girl a few years ago who was a wild child. So adorable but , wow. Wild! ". Well . Low and behold it must come with the name, because I have a super cute spitfire myself !
Thank you for starting this thread!! I was so over scrolling through the Baby Name board.
Im loving the names everyone has on their lists. Picking a name is so hard!
I'll play along!
Boy - Cyrus William IV - after DH, FIL and GFIL. We're talking about calling him Liam, as a nn, to limit name confusion within our family and because I love it. It's also the last 4 letters of William so it's not too far fetched! Right?? DD's name is Brigid, which is super Irish so Liam works in that sense too!
Girl - our short first name list (middle name hasn't come up yet):
- Cora - Audra - DH says no but it's still on my list! - Vivian - nn Viv or Vivi - Isla
DD1 is Olivia Madison DD2 is Emily Mae (Emme) DS is Aloysius Scott (Hubby's grandpa's name) DD3 is Isla Paige
I am sure that family/friends will be expecting a U name but the only boy's name I like is Ulric and Hubby veto it. "i can't name a boy Ulrich." Ummm are you kidding me we have an Aloysius for crying out loud. Hate all U girl names so we are probably going with Everly Grace or Anders Mark.
@sdarling2010 my DS is a IV too! we ended up calling him a nickname too because i am not a fan of the given name. i think liam is a great choice and absolutely related to his name. we tried to find nicknames for 4 and there really arent any. we almost called him dru (short for quadruple) but just couldnt bring ourselves to do it
@kkerner87 Emma Claire is one of our top two girl names right now too! @blujeanbaby29 Elena Claire is our other (also fell in love with the name from Vampire Diaries haha, and I don't know too many other people who have read the books as well as watched the show!).
As for boys, my list hasn't been narrowed down much. @Mommaswizz DH won't discuss names until we know either. I caught him on a good day and got him to agree to the girl choices, but now he won't discuss boy names.. I really like Miles, but we will most likely use it as a middle name, since I can't seem to think of a middle name for it that DH will agree too. He does like it as a middle name though.
I just decided to as DH if he liked Emma or Elena better and he was like "no, stop, we aren't talking about names!" I honestly have no idea why he refuses to talk about it until we know. He didn't do that with DD. It's driving me INSANE!
@jessafishy I LOVE Willa but couldn't get DH on board.
DD is Eloise. For a girl, we're pretty set on Colette. Boy names are hard. The two names on our list are Grant and Dean, but I'm not 100% on board with either.
October 2017 June Siggy Challenge -- "You Had One Job!"
@beezeemarie my name is Colette so I agree, it's a pretty great name!
I have a list of names going on my phone but I don't love any of them!! DD is Nora and I loved it from the first time I saw it and luckily DH agreed. I feel like this baby won't have a name until the very end!
@jessafishy@bluejeanbabi05 I am glad to know I am not the only one that likes names from entertainment sources. I dunno why I care, my Mother named me after a character on that 80s show "Dynasty".
@beezeemarie Colette was on our middle name list! DH's name is Collin, so I liked the similarity there. In the end, I thought Elisabetta sounded better with Laurel, but I loooooooove Colette. Beautiful!
@laeberge3 Maren is on my very short list of girl names. If we use our girl name this time, Maren is totally a possibility should we ever have another girl. I just love it.
Me: 31 DH: 35 Married since 05.16.2009 Expecting #1: 10.10.2017
If this is another boy, we'll probably pull from what was left on our list from ds: Thomas, James or Timothy.
A girl is a little tougher. We were team green last time, but had zero girls names picked out. SO would like Laura to be part of the name somehow, after his grandmother. I like Charlotte, Margaret and Elyse but SO hates all of them. He likes Alexandra, but I don't.
I love all the names you mentionned ladies! DH is algerian, i am moroccan... We're muslim so we wanted to go with names that dont scream "arab/muslim" because since weve both grown up in Canada (and traveled a lot too) we both know how mean racists can be... but that is ssssuch a difficult thing to do while not denying your origins/roots lol! Hubby has an amazing "not-arab-sounding" last name : Sana so we wanted something that flows... We're having a boy we 're stuck between Ismael (pronounced eass-ma-elle) and Ilyas ( pronounced ill-yes).
@canonmom413 We realized after our son that we had all first names starting with a vowel, hence Isla (hate how the capital i looks like a lowercase l) for our fourth. It wasn't intentional, we were watching Fringe when I suggested Olivia, Hubby got to name the second one, third was a non negotiable name (knew since I was 15 that his first boy would be given this name).
I will tell hubby the name as soon as he gets back from dinner with his best friend.
Lol @jessafishy I also have a bit of a deep, dark secret with that name I haven't shared with DH. The family thing is the party line, and also the truth, just only part of it.

For the record the books were so good!! But Ian sommerhalder as Damon, I don't think I could have ever invisioned him!!
@yasandson there are so many beautiful muslim/Arab names with deep meaning. DH is Indian but we're both catholic (surprisingly he was not Hindu). Most kids in his family have Christian names and people don't understand how an Indian can have an American name, not realizing they're actually biblical names. I totally hear ya, some can be harsh to people of a certain origin. Naming a child is so special and your name choices both sound perfect I wish every person and child can live in a world where racism does not exist.

@lola4411 I'm so glad someone else understands! I don't completely dislike the name, but it's not my fave by any means. Liam is a good compromise! Thanks for confirming it makes sense, phew! I was trying to come up with nicknames for IV too, and you're right, there aren't any!
Being limited by the family name for a boy, I have found so many others I like! Go figure!

Stuck in a box! Right there with you on that wish mama!... Thank you! Ismael (son of Abraham) and Ilyas (Elias/Elijah) are prophets in some religion, and have great stories... We just chose the two most easy going (less arab sounding lol).
@yasandson Working in OB for a long time, I have heard every name under the sun. I happen to think Muslim/Arab names are beautiful! As are the babies! I like both choices, but if I had to pick one, I'd say Ismael.

We agree on nothing. So DD1 (Bethany Joy) was something we had come up with when we were dating and we both agreed 100% no looking back. DD2 there was a little bit of back and forth but we settled on Hannah Grace (which I've loved since high school). We have never once agreed on a boy name so thankfully we only have girls so far....but DH is refusing to even discuss it until we have a gender but so far says he doesn't like the majority of the names I throw at him. If it were up to me a girl would be Lily Rose (because I feel like it goes really well with the other two) and a boy would be Alexander James.
@sdarling2010 I grew up with a kid who was a IV and he went by Ivy or I-V ( don't actually know how he spelled it) For the longest time we didn't even know that wasn't his name.
