@MrsMaryK2016 I also sing Christmas songs for bedtime. It started since it was Christmas time and they were the only songs I could think of that I knew the words. Then he seemed to respond to the 2nd song and would start to snuggle in and even though he doesn't do that anymore I keep the same songs going for routine.
I've finally had time to read up on this post. I have almost the same routine @mrsmaryk2016, except the extra diaper change I still get woken up MOTN, she gets a bottle and sleeps again. I can't do the CIO, for me that just feels wrong. So I just have to stick with it until either she gives up or I'm ready for the CIO
@tvh1982 Hey, to each her own. I admire anyone who has the patience to use a no cry method. I was at a breaking point and I needed an immediate improvement or I was going to have a breakdown.
My LO cried 24/7 the first two months and she almost broke me. She was in pain, you could see that, that's what kept me sane. Knowing she didn't just cry to cry. Guess that has made the way things are now looking like a walk in the parc for me while others think I should do something about it Im still on my maternity leave too, not sure I could have kept going if I had to get to work.
I'm ok with the crying. They need to be able to exert that energy. My mom let me CIO as a baby and I turned out ok. I don't believe there are lasting effects. Honestly, the crying is more so annoying than anything .

I have the same mentality and it helped a lot while sleep training.
One thing that I think helped when we started sleep training (about a month ago) is cut out the before bed feeding because she kept falling asleep during it and I wanted to break her of the "feeding to sleep" habit. I feed her around 6:30 then do bathtime, a couple books, a song (usually a book that is also a song so she can look at the pictures while I'm singing), then I give her a little cuddle and put her down, winding up the mobile before I leave. She's never cried more than 20 minutes at bedtime and she sleeps through the night more often now. Lately it's been more like less than 5 if she cries at all. Good luck tonight, @Ladybug2821!!
So far its been too good to be true. Did our routine, laid her down awake, and she rolled to her side as I walked out the door. She didn't even make a sound. She must've been worn out. Just checked the monitor and she has since rolled to her belly. FX MOTN is this easy.

Yayyyy! Virtual high five to you!
Middle of the night was never an issue for us. I hope that's the case for you too!
Ok. My LOsleeps through the night or wakes up once in his crib. He will not nap in there though!! Screams and cries even if he's out when I put him down. And I know he can put himself to sleep because he does it at night.
How to you keep your LO cool at night (and day)? We have some extreme heat here and her room is way to warm, she's too warm and sleeping and naps are hard for her.
@tvh1982 We have her down to a onsie with a ceiling fan on for sleeping on hot days. We can't have the windows open for a breeze due to the high pollen and bug count.
We are also ceiling fan people. Thought LO also loves to be naked so if it's really hot we dona cool bath, a diaper and a ceiling fan and add layers as appropriate.
Thx for the quick reply. My mum brought over a fan and I hope I get to cool down her room. She's now in a onesie and gave up on fighting the heat so hopefully she's good for the night as we had no naps. My house is not build for 86F and up.
Ughhh I'm so pissed off at myself. Everything was going really well. S put herself to sleep really easily for bed time. Her MOTN schedule was a little off as she normally only wakes once. She woke up a 12am. I fed her and put her down awake and she put herself to sleep again pretty easily. She woke up at almost 5am because she pooped so I was worried since it was so close to 5 that she would be awake for the day. But no, she actually put herself to sleep again. Then she actually did it for her first 2 naps. Her 2nd nap only ended up being 40 mins and I was expecting at least 1.5 hrs so that messed us up because we had plans to go out. I just figured it would be ok if she took a third short nap on the go. Well she didn't nap so she was super overtired when we got home. I tried to let her CIO but I just knew it wasn't going to work so I had to help her to sleep . I should've just stayed home. I knew better because I've read not to make any plans during sleep training. Just so irritated with myself. I will start fresh on her next wake up and will make sure I stay home the next few days. I also only have 4 days to do this as I go back to work Wednesday. I'll continue to do nights but then I have to depend on H to do naps correctly.
@MrsMaryK2016 Did M ever wake up fairly early from a nap while sleep training? How did you handle? When she woke up after 40 mins, I did let her cry for 20 mins total to see if she would go back to sleep but she didn't so I just went in her room and made a big deal about it being wake time.
@Ladybug2821 when mine was STTN and we did sleep training his naps were a crapshoot and still are. I never know if it will be 20 min or 2 hours so I've learned to just go with it. Don't beat yourself up on the slip in routine yesterday

I'm worrying about this too and I'm thinking I may have to put S in just a onesie. I worry that she'll end up too cold and wake up. My thermostat in my house says 74 and I was turning on the ceiling fan and cool mist humidifier in her room. But now that I got the video monitor with temp reading it says her room is 76/77 and I had been putting her in a cotton sleeper or night gown. When she does wake up for a feeding her hands are fairly cold and she doesn't seem overly hot.
@Ladybug2821 - E's naps are unpredictable as well so if she didn't nap well I'll let her doze during her last feed and she wakes up when I burp her. Then we do bath and the rest of the bedtime routine.
So how do you know when you are done sleep training? S is actually doing really well besides my mess up last night. She's been able to put herself to sleep in 15 mins or less. H and I have plans to see a movie Saturday so we have a babysitter. I'm sure it'll be fine as long as the babysitter follows my instructions but I don't want to mess up her progress.
As long as the babysitter keeps the same routine I wouldn't worry about it. We still hold to the same general routine and schedule from sleep training months ago but I look at it as more of a routine than anything
My great sleeper has been awful since Thursday. She's clearly teething (I felt the bud on the lower front right) but she's been screaming like she's being shot every time we lay her down. It's always when I try to nurse her after putting her pjs on. Then she screams like a banshee. I tried giving her a bath to calm her down and it worked until she went to bed. This has happened every night since Thursday. I was so tired yesterday, I nursed her to sleep in our bed and even then, she woke up 20 minutes later, screaming her head off. It took another 40 minutes of rocking and singing to get her back to sleep. We'rr trying CIO tonight but I am at a loss as to what changed.
@RhodaMorgenstern Have you tried Tylenol? We haven't gone through teething yet but I'm hoping the sleep training we are doing now will help prepare for when that time comes. I feel like leaps and regressions hit S super hard so I'm really worried teething will also.

So frustrating! If it is teething, someone I trust recommended clove oil to naturally numb the gums and that's what I intend to do when we get there.
Maybe check out the amber necklace @rhodamorgenstern. My LO wears it and has gotten two teeth at once without any real issues. Of course I took it off during naps and nighttime (unless she napped in the stroller and I could see her) Either she's one that doesn't fuzz teething or it works. I got this recommended by a friend who had no fuzz either. Ive had maybe two nights she wanted a little more TLC before putting to bed, but no real drama.
Thanks guys. We gave her Tylenol Thursday and Saturday, I feel nervous giving it to her any more than thought. Someone else recommended an amber necklace so I'll have to find one. Is there any specific one you recommend? I looked on Amazon and a lot of the reviews are "fake amber, useless!" I'm fine snuggling for longer than usual but she won't even snuggle; pjs come on and she starts wailing like a banshee. I'll see if I can find clove oil, I've never heard of it before. A passed out last night after 23 minutes. This morning, I just watched her put herself back to sleep with zero fuss. Maybe the tooth popped through last night?
@RhodaMorgenstern I am team amber necklace. But I actually use a bracelet and keep it on his ankle under his sleeper or socks so he wears it all the time unless he's in the bath or for some reason isn't wearing socks. im not sure the best place to get them. I got mine from a botique baby store here in my hometown. You can also try putting a drop of baby Benadryl on your finger and rubbing it on their gums! I've heard amazing things about that!!
@rhodamorgenstern I bought the Baltic amber necklace from Amazon and wrapped it twice around LO's ankle a while back, but have since given up. I didn't notice a difference and he couldn't wear it at daycare so it just wasn't useful here. And I used to be afraid of using Tylenol too. In fact, to some degree I still am, but try to talk yourself down from the concerns. As long as you're following the guidelines and it's making a difference in LO pain, it really is okay to use.
@RhodaMorgenstern Did the Tylenol help on the nights you gave it to her? I think I'll feel just like you but if I know it helps then it's good to know for the future.

LO was teeth freaking out this morning over here. About 20 minutes after Tylenol, he finally took a nap.
It's funny, we gave A Tylenol when she had an ear infection and once when she was sick with a cold. Both times, she was knocked out within 30 minutes. When we gave it to her on Thursday and Saturday, she was up for another hour, screaming her head off until she finally fell asleep.
@MrsMaryK2016 Did you Find that LO regressed after doing really well previously? S had been putting herself to sleep at bedtime without any crying and had gotten down to 7 mins of cryin for naps. Now she's up to 20 mins for naps and cried for 20 mins last night at bedtime. I'm hoping bedtime was only an issue because of the loud thunderstorm we had.
Is anyone's baby sleeping like 12 hours without wake ups? i really want to get M to bed earlier but the earlier he goes to bed the earlier he wakes up and he is up for at least 2 hours before he will go back to sleep and I can't handle that If it happens at like 4am.

Our first did starting around 9 months, but at that time she dropped her morning nap too.

We've had a few bad days here and there but nothing that's stuck around. I'm guessing it's just a fluke!

I bought mine here in the Netherlands @rhodamorgenstern. I'll see if my friend remembers where she bought hers as she's in the US.
