  • Ok looking for some "what would you do" advice possibly-

We are on a waitlist to move to a bigger house, the new house will have an extra room downstairs that I can use for a playroom. Right now, our third bedroom is our playroom but I need for baby #3. It will also have a bigger yard and attached garage. The home we are in now is a historic home so no garage or yard. We knew the waitlist for this house was a few months minimum but we didn't mind. We still probably have 2-4 months before A house becomes available for us.
Now, my husband has an opportunity to apply for some schooling that would move us across county possibly as soon as December IF he gets accepted. We wouldn't find out if he gets accepted until July. So most likely we would be offered a home from our waitlist before July... but is it worth it to move for just 6 months only to move again? But if he doesn't get accepted to the schooling, we will be where we are now for another 2 years so the bigger house makes sense. Ughh I feel like we are always in these "what-if" limbo situations!

  • I had an appt today and my OB scheduled my 3-hr glucose test for my next appt at 28 wks.  I already failed a 1-hr and passed a 3-hr a month ago.  I'm not looking forward to potentially failing a 3-hr this time, but at least it's just the tail end of the pregnancy.  Last time, between the various appts to take the test, get the results, see the nutritionalist, etc.  I didn't start the diet until about 31 wks.  I remember a coworker telling me, "You can do anything for 9 weeks." Totally true.  It's a pain, but some ladies have it the entire pregnancy or their whole lives.  Anyway, good luck to everyone on  the upcoming glucose.  Make sure you ask for the glucola to be very cold.

  • @h&pmomma I say go forward with the house. There seem to be so many "ifs" with everything, I'd hate for you to be stuck at your current house is everything doesn't pan out with DH schooling.
  • @h&pmomma that's a tough situation. I hate moving, but would hate to be stuck in the smaller house if the schooling doesn't pan out. I say go for it! I think the space will give you some sanity, if only for a little while.

Normally I would tell someone to just hold
off but let's face it, we're pros! I would go for it since it's not like a PCS where you are separated from your stuff for weeks. Plus I would use it as an opportunity to pre-purge and organize before a potential big move.

  • @h&pmomma I agree with the others. Since you don't know for sure on schooling I would not pass it up.

  • @BeachMommy2B Another thing I've heard helps if you can't use salt is to use foods that are naturally high in umami (the fifth flavor after sweet, sour, salty, and bitter). Soy is a big one (and you can get low/no sodium), almonds and walnuts, aged and blue cheese, fish sauce, black olives, mushrooms and truffles, etc.
  • Sorry if this has already been talked about a ton...but does anybody else have no flipping idea what they'll do for childcare?  We can't even agree on daycare vs nanny vs home daycare...and that's weird bc we agree pretty easily about most things.  It's almost as if we think childcare is going to drop out of the sky.  Please tell me some other May mommas haven't even gotten started either (or too?  Unsure of the correct grammar there.  Usually that means the sentence needed re-structured, lol).
  • @h&pmomma I agree with the others, I'd go ahead and stay on the waitlist for a bigger house. Moving is such a pain in the butt but if a playroom and a 3rd bedroom is what you really want, then go for it.

Another thought.. is the waitlist long to begin with, as in is there anybody else in front of you? It's not the most ideal but if there is a few people on it, maybe you can delay accepting a bigger house after you find out if your DH gets accepted?

  • Thanks ladies, I think I just needed re-assurance that I wouldn't be crazy for moving to possibly move again 6 months later!

@WombThereItIs So true, I would have my stuff right away and I definitely always need a purge. It's amazing how much stuff accumulates. I feel like if I ask my family/friends for advice, I always just get the "but didn't you just move?!" response. We just got to this base last January, but I hate it here so I'm really really really hoping he gets accepted into the schooling so we can get out of here!

We are awaiting RFO for a PCS back to our favorite base this summer. I totally feel you on not digging your current duty station, it is way worth feeling less angry and trapped in a crappy spot to make a short move across post. Fingers crossed for you guys.

  • @sls yes they are great for swelling. I would swell so much my last pregnancy the last month the tops of my feet felt floppy unless I wore them. Also after having my son the swelling from the fluid in epidural caused me to have giant floppy feet that if I put pressure my finger would sink in it was gross
  • Do you need to buy an infant car seat or can you just start out with a convertible one?

    BFP #4: 5/20/18. EDD 1/23/19.

  • You can definitely start out with a convertible one, just make sure it is a small enough weight limit (some are better suited towards infants) and also consider that little babies sleep A LOT and you will be constantly waking them to get them in and out vs. just popping the seat out while baby continues to sleep. I considered doing this for our babies bc a friend of mine did with her daughter and it would save a lot but in the end I decided against it when I considered the convenience of keeping them asleep.

  • Jkp7749, that's a good point about waking them up. I think I might go with one infant carseat and one convertible. We have 2 cars, but only one needs to be the primary baby car.

  • @kns1988 also if the other car will only occasionally be used most infant seats can be installed with a seat belt. Our graco has the slots. We used bases in our daily cars, but if my parents had to take the baby they could still use the car seat without the base.

  • We're doing an infant seat with a base for both cars. If baby rides with grandparents we will do seatbelt install. We don't plan on carrying around the carseat, but still wanted to start out with an infant seat just in case.

  • What a day!
Big snow storm here, and it took me two hours to get home in the most harrowing drive. I was in stopped traffic for over an hour then slid all the way down the mountain. So grateful to be home in one piece!

I started the day off with difficult news from my midwife: the results of the anatomy scan show the baby's kidneys are mildly dialated and we will recheck in 10 weeks. Has anyone else heard of this or had to deal with it?? I'm trying not to freak out but it's really hard not to worry :-/
  • @chailife34 We were recently told about the dilated kidneys too. Our LO has a dialation on both sides, but it's mild (apparently there are three levels; mild, moderate, severe) and we were told that it almost always corrects itself before birth.

  • @chailife34  My DD was born with Hydronephrosis in both kidneys  (and still has it at 2).  The actual dilation is no big deal at all, she does also have Kidney Reflux that just causes frequent UTIs so she takes a daily antibiotic and sees a Urologist every 6 months unless we suspect a UTI.  From my understanding, if there is no reflux present they just monitor your LO with an annual US.

  • @rkstro2 I'm right there with you. We just started thinking about it yesterday. It's so overwhelming. I don't even know where to start.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!  One of us wants the ease of having someone come to us and the other doesn't want someone in our house all the time.  Ugh.  But we live in a smaller area so daycare options are limited.  If it was a bigger metropolis like where I grew up and there were a million daycare choices I might feel differently.  But there aren't too many options and I'm feeling limited.  I guess we need to just visit some daycares and interview some potential nannies and go from there.

Also @Rebecca517 if that's your first name it's mine too!!
  • @vrj0522
Uh yeah. I feel the same way. Unless you are under the age of 13 or having a milestone birthday, I don't really think birthdays should be that big of a deal. But this is a woman in her 60's who still asks people for money for her birthday and Christmas...even if people don't ask what she wants. She even had the audacity to tell Dh and I that she would have preferred cash to a gift we gave her once.  :o

Nope. I'd be done with her. The next gift-giving occasion would result in a nice card. And nothing else.

This might seem harsh but life is too short to put up with ungrateful brats!
  • Random Q: Do any of you use any natural disinfectant wipes? I want something for my car. I tend to get smudges from my "makeup hands" on the door handle and sometimes my drinks leak a little onto the cup holder. I usually use Clorox, but I always feel like my hands are dry afterwards.

  • @nda_roxybabe  I usually avoid "natural" cleaning products for disinfecting purposes because they don't actually disinfect.  That said, if you are just looking to clean up a few things, maybe WetOnes would work?

  • @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot Yea, I'm not worried about disinfecting in these cases. I considered wet ones or baby wipes, but do you think they'd leave a soapy sort of residue?

  • @fbmandy55 - Seriously? As someone who is obsessed with their birthday, even I think that's way over the top. I don't think I'd be too heartbroken if she decided not to attend the shower. It'd be a present for the both of you.

Haha!!! I really do though!! DH and I met in the Reserve, and then he spent several years active duty. He considered being a lifer, as did I. I also had s civilian job with the Army (as a secretary for a CPT, 1SG, and supporting the assigned troops), and I loved it. Between my time and the additional time DH was still in, the military was a major component of my life for 12 years.
