For those of you who have had your 2nd OB visit, what can the rest of us expect? Any good questions we should ask? Any topics you suggest mentioning? Anything your provider asked you that you hadn't thought about yet? Tips and tricks, please. Thanks!
I too am surprised you're only on your 2nd visit. Though there's probably nothing wrong with that. My OB has me see her every 4 weeks for now and then we we will switch to every 2 weeks then every week. My second visit I was 12 weeks and it was quick and easy. Every single appointment I leave a urine sample (which they test the proteins in), they take my blood pressure, and weight, and we listen to heartbeat and she asks how I'm feeling and if I'm eating healthy and wearing my seat belt below the bump. I believe at 12 week appointment I have blood for something, but other than that they've been quick and the same drill unless I'm getting a U/S
My visits are pretty much exactly the same as @nda_roxybabe described. At my 12 week visit, they did blood work for STIs/HIV and rubella immunity I believe. They also made sure I'd received my flu shot and scheduled my anatomy scan.

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone. I really appreciate the community we have here. Everything looked perfectly normal at my appt. They didn't find a bacterial infection or uti, everything felt normal during a pelvic exam, she even did an ultrasound (both ways), and measurements were all good with no opening of the cervix (I assume that would have something to do with premature labor?). The doctor said she couldn't explain the uterine cramping, but that it did seem like I had some indigestion. I'm not too stubborn to admit I may have felt cramping around the uterus and mistakenly assumed it was the uterus. It just felt like very painful menstrual cramping. Not sure, but everything checked out ok. I was so happy with all the measures my OBGYN office took. Hooray for them. Also, got to see our little girl an extra time before Christmas, even though she was burying her face the whole time.
@starphish18 it sounds like you have a great OB office! I'm really glad they were so thorough and took your concerns seriously. I'm also glad it looks like its nothing to worry about.
The breast health center called me today and got me in for an ultrasound the day we get back from our trip (unfortunately we leave tomorrow and they couldn't get me in before that). I'm relieved to have an appointment on the calendar!
@starphish18 I'm glad to hear that everything looks good! @RainyDays86 now that you have your appointment scheduled, try to keep it out of your mind and really enjoy your trip! (I know, way easier said than done.)
I forgot to include - once I was sitting on the table with only a sheet covering my bottom half, I realized my legs were caveman-level hairy. No shame.
So I had my regular 20 week appointment at by OB earlier today and everything went fine except they are sending my urine out for a culture because I am going to the bathroom up to 3 times an hour. So good news all around...except I am ready for the holiday traffic to be O-V-E-R. I work near the Mall and usually that is super nice, but this time of year, just makes me get angry. I mean people forget how to drive and just cross the street without looking. Okay now that my little stupid rant is over I can get back to work.
@RainyDays86 I Hope you can have a great vacation and try not to worry to much. Glad to hear you have an appointment. @starphish18 So relieved that your doctor was able to confirm everything is normal and you got to see your little nugget one more time before Christmas.
Now if only the clock would just speed up a little so I can get home into my comfy PJ's...
I had some pain last night after a meal, but it was a different type of pain. I wondered if it was just my organs shifting around and getting squished now that the uterus is getting higher. I remember a similar kind of pain in the second half of my first pregnancy. It didn't last very long though but it was incredibly uncomfortable! I know it's not the same as cramping but still wanted to bring it up.
@jayandaplus I'm impressed you've only had one appointment so far! My 12 weeks appointment was super long, because I was a new patient and they wanted to sit with me and go over health history and insurance stuff, then I had to do a pap and other stuff. 16 weeks appt was short and quick, just a heartbeat check, Q&As etc. So if you have anything on your mind, it helps to write them down in advance. I always forget to do that then when they ask if I had any Q, I totally blank! Eventually they will start measuring your fundal height and I believe by 3rd tri they will have you start a kick count.
@LuckyAngie I still think it may have been a combo of indigestion and BH. I know generally BH aren't painful, but the always-accurate interwebs says they can be for some people. Who knows! This is all new to me.
@RainyDays86 I'm glad you got an appt on the books! That's a relief. Sorry they couldn't see you before your trip, but I hope you have a nice, relaxing time.
@starphish18 - I remember having some BH in my last pregnancy. They were kind of painful for me. I remember when I had them I was walking down the street and they stopped me in my tracks!

Thanks for the insight everyone. I'm with a midwife practice that's very "unobtrusive" so to speak so we don't go often. I appreciate your guidance!
Glad to hear you have an ultrasound booked @RainyDays86. Try to enjoy your vacation!
What's the rationale behind having less appointments? I'm not trying to sound snarky. Just curious as most OBGYN appointments at this point in pregnancy are not at all intrusive.
@starphish18 Yaye! Glad everything turned out to be just fine!
@RainyDays86 Glad you have an appointment set and, like others have said, try to enjoy your trip!
This SI Joint pain I'm experiencing is no joke. Really looking forward to starting prenatal yoga next month to get things stretched and flexible again. All I can seem to manage these days are walking at a fast pace and climbing stairs. I have forgone the squats.

@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot I can't speak to her practice, but my close friend who is about 4 weeks behind me is at a practice that wouldn't see her until 13 weeks for the NT Scan/first appointment. Sounds like in a similar vein to decreasing what they see as unnecessary appointments. Not sure I could have survived without the dating scan at 8 weeks lol

At my practice you see the PA for your "first" appt around 6-8 wks to confirm pregnancy and don't see the OBGYN until 4 wks after your first. It just seems like you'd want regular appts after 12 weeks to check in that everything is progressing regularly.
Anyone's baby's movements made them feel dizzy? Baby is active right now (love it!), but I am feeling light headed. Not sure if its from that, being sick, a light lunch, or something else..
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot I hear you! Sometimes it does drive me crazy but in the end I prefer it. To me there's no reason to check in every 4 weeks, unless there is and in that case we would see them more frequently. I'm in the medical field so I wanted a nonmedical pregnancy as much as possible (natural birth). We did infertility treatments so we had two ultrasounds before we switched to the midwife OB practice. There are group visits in between OB midwife visits and they are easy to reach by phone. So tomorrow is our second OB visit. I'm pretty excited!

Got it. Maybe don't refer to an unmedicated birth (which is what I assume you meant) as "natural." Again, not trying to sound snarky, but I probably do anyway. Just pointing it out.

FWIW I'm 18 w and have only had 2 appointments at 10 and 16 weeks. My last pregnancy was the same way. Army docs don't see you until 10-12 weeks most times and from there you start the monthlies. So it seems pretty normal to me. This early even f things go bad there isn't much to do so it doesn't seem weird to me at all.

When my baby got bigger toward the end with my other pregnancy , I remember feeling nauseous when baby was moving around a ton. Definitely could be the baby moving causing you to feel that way.
Or...were you laying down and feeling dizzy? I remember something about it being better if you lay on your left side once you get bigger for better blood flow.... Might be too early for that though.
Doctor appointment yesterday. He said he sees a shadow on the u/s that wasn't there 2 weeks ago. I have to go back on Friday for another u/s to see if it's still there. He said not to worry for now and we will make a plan of action on Friday.
Random: I am feeling super cranky. 1. The amount of people at my large ( 4 stories, big building) corporate office has been dwindling as the week progresses. I will be the only person in my entire wing here tomorrow and probably one of 5 on my floor. Well, normally the day before a Holiday they let us leave early, but pay for the whole day. They did this for Labor Day and Thanksgiving, coincidentally I was already off both those days so did not take advantage. I just got word that they're likely not doing this. I will be the only person here, with nothing to do (seriously, its been a slow week as is). Whatever I guess, but we were hoping I'd get off early to go new SUV shopping. That will now have to wait till after Christmas and I cant help but be super bummed because I was getting excited! 2. SUV's... I just found out on the models I am really considering doesn't have rear ac. How dumb is that? I am pretty insistent I need it living here in Phoenix.
@nda_roxybabe Bummer on having to be at work and being the only one around. You can always bump with us instead! As for the SUVs without A/C in the back, you could always get a noggle so the kiddo can stay comfortable! www.nogglenation.com
@pshaortao Most likely what I'll end up doing, haha! Yes, I am definitely getting a noggle. I know a lot of Mama's here insist on having that in addition to the rear vents. Maybe its not a big deal though.
@nda_roxybabe That sucks that you don't get a half day. I feel like a lot of people are getting the short end of the stick since Christmas is over the weekend.
Also, someone else was commenting about separate heat/air controls to me recently. That's a nice feature I never thought about. I was all "back in my day, cars had phones instead of cup holders". But seriously, my first car was a big box of a van with a car phone. I was just excited that my new car now has Bluetooth!
@nda_roxybabe I don't have rear AC or a Noggle in my car. I got the highest grade of window tinting I could. I have black interior and it's seriously awesome. DH has a Noggle in his car (with no tinting) and it's helpful.

That is good to know! I do plan on getting tinting, so worst come to worst...
@nda_roxybabe bummer about the no early release. I was dreading coming to work tomorrow (saving vacation for maternity leave next year) but we just found out we are getting released at noon so I am super excited. I was already contemplating calling in sick HA HA. But now I can tough it out for a few hours.
I live in Houston and have to say getting tint is SO HELPFUL to combat the stifling car heat in the summer.
@nda_roxybabe, that sucks that you don't have an early release tomorrow. Are you taking time off/getting time off next week?
On a related note, I just negotiated a pizza party and early release for our office tomorrow and I'm pretty proud of myself. I have done very, very little work this week and the thought of sitting here for one more full day might have sent me off a cliff.
We DO get Monday off, so it's still pretty awesome. I think I just got it in my head that I'd be able to leave early tomorrow (my manager implied she thought we would) and that I'd get to go pick out my new car. I admittedly become a bit bratty when I think something is going to go one way and then it doesn't.
Wow! I've never heard of a noogle before and just looked it up. Definitely will be purchasing one for this LO because our rear ac vents aren't that strong.
I recently bought a used 2014 Uppababy Vista and was so excited about it. After doing some research, I jut found out that I cannot use this model as a double stroller without purchasing the smaller rumble seat instead of the toddler seat that the stroller came with. I knew I would have to buy adapters for the car seat, but I didn't think I would have to buy a new seat to accommodate two kiddos! Also, I can't find the adapters for the 2014 anywhere. So basically this awesome stroller and the awesome deal that I got it for are useless!

Did you check the UB site? I have a 2014 Vista from my first and they still had the rumble seats and some accessories on the website last time I was on there a few months ago. If you don't see what you're looking for definitely call them. A live person picks up the phone and their customer service is FABULOUS.
