Re: Symptoms Thread 11/14/16

  • Used a mirror last night in search of the in grown hair and found a varicose vein down there :s I doubt it will fully go away, but can those improve at all after giving birth?

@FreshBakedBrownies my sister had SPD and I remember going to physical therapy with her.  The therapist basically crouched down on his knees, wrapped his arms around my sisters hips and squeezed real tight a few times.  He told her to have her husband do that a few times a day and that really helped relieve her pain.  So you might want to try that while you're waiting to see the doctor.  I don't see how it could hurt.
Idk I would use caution when attempting physical therapy techniques that haven't been shown to you. PTs go to school to learn about this stuff and everyone and every injury is a bit different. You could end up causing more harm then good if you don't do it correctly or if it's something that just isn't right for your injury. I hope the new mfm you see can give you better answers!
    Or get a belt.

  • @FreshBakedBrownies uhhh, did she do any testing to try to diagnose you, or did she just write down "silly woman with hysterical symptoms" because this is 1850 and "exaggeration" is a totally reasonable medical diagnosis?
Basically! But in the moment instead of being furious, I felt foolish and started to doubt myself. :(

She did do a pelvic exam, brief though in my opinion. I think she already decided on her diagnosis before she started. Apparently the vibe I give off is "the woman is crazy and makes up imaginary symptoms". Grr. She also took a swab, forgot the she planned to check it for infection and threw it away. She actually dug it out of the trash and still looked at it under the microscope.

She seriously added one word to my medical record: anxiety.

I talked to to the director yesterday, and no, sorry, I'm not willing to give her another chance and see her again.
She sounds careless and judgemental.  Who the hell takes a swab back out of the trash can?!!

  • @AfKash I know, right?!
Thanks for letting me vent here. I realize that this is the symptoms thread & there's probably a better place for it!

  • FTM and I just hit 29 weeks and last night I woke up several times and I was leaking! I know I leak a little bit during the day because when I take off my bra I have white crusty stuff on my nipples. But last night I actually felt wet from both my nipples. I'm wondering if this is going to be a consistent thing and I should start wearing a sleep bra with nursing pads at night? Has anyone had this before, STMs? Should I just wait and see what happens for the next few nights?

  • @FreshBakedBrownies that reaction is exactly my fear in bringing anything up to my OB. The last time I was in there, I don't remember what I said but her reply was "This is your first child and you're only XX weeks. This is as good as you're going to feel." I don't think she was trying to dismiss me, but it made me concerned that she'd dismiss pain related to SPD. When I googled my symptoms, that was what came up too, and it seems to describe exactly what I'm feeling. I don't need another "whelp, you're going to need to live with it" reaction from her. I actually did some exercises last night that I found online that are supposed to help (and generally strengthen the pelvic floor muscles), and then stuck an ice pack between my legs  while I was relaxing on the couch. I surprisingly didn't experience quite as much pain when getting out of bed and adjusting in bed. I'm going to repeat tonight and hope for similar results.

And taking a swab out of the trash can!? EW! I wouldn't give her another chance either!
  • @Patience7150 I'm not a FTM and know this is not how it should feel. That's why I'm so disappointed in myself that I didn't stand up to her a little better!
But doctors can be intimidating when they think they know it all. It might be awkward, but I go to an mfm group and I'm going to make sure it's clear I won't see her again.
If you're not comfortable with your ob, it might be a good idea to see someone else too!

  • @Xstatic3333 Same here! I have post-it's all over my desk at work to remind me of things. It's gotten to the point where I literally have to put my meetings and appointments in my hand written planner AND my Google calendar or else I totally forget!

Yesterday I could not find my water cup that was sitting right next to the sink in plain view. I'm ready to hopefully have my memory back!
  • Alright, someone help me out with movement thing. FTM and anterior placenta so it is new to me. I have felt it a lot for the last 2 weeks or so. Usually it was always on my right side, never on my left. Now about half the time it is on my right side and the other half is really low. Like he is kicking my cervix or something. Is it normal for me to feel it that low?

@Xstatic3333 I feel ya girl. It has really kicked into over drive lately. I forget to do things, I forget what I'm doing 5 seconds after thinking about doing it, I forget common words in the middle of sentences. It's insane.

  • Does "sciatica" basically mean "nerve pain in your butt"? Because that's what I've been having, and it's driving me nuts. It's not often but several times a day for the last few days I get a sharp pain in my ass muscle (for lack of a better word) that feels more nervey than muscley. I'm seeing my doctor soon so will ask her then, but seriously, WTF.
  • Thanks ladies! @jlellis603 I feel really low movement a lot too. My MW said they can still move around a ton in there at this point, so it's normal for the area you feel movement to change.
  • @Xstatic3333 YES to pregnancy brain. I can't remember names anymore and I've started relying on post its too.
  • @Xstatic3333 oh okay good! As long as someone said it was normal and he's not like working his way down there already.
  • @Xstatic3333 oh okay good! As long as someone said it was normal and he's not like working his way down there already.
Totally trust your gut if something seems off, but for me I get down-low kicks but not the rib kicking that others feel. We all carry differently!
  • Yes, the pregnancy brain is real.
I don't respond to texts, forget what month we are in....it's bad.
  • Not sure if this goes here or in the randoms... But, I have a new "I peed a little while..." submission.  I felt very gassy and tried to (clears throat) pass some and peed instead.  Embarrassing all around.  Where is the sexy pregnancy feeling I was promised?

+1 for needing all the post-its and lists and phone reminders, etc.  Like, today I made sure to read all the details for the computer/electronic recycling event that's happening near work tomorrow...  But, I can't for the life of me remember what I'm supposed to be getting rid of.

When I'm at work I spend all my concentration and effort making sure I do a good job.  I have no brain cells left to remember peoples' names or anything.  Such a drastic change from my previous jobs where I wanted to meet everybody and get to know them and have a bond with them. Ha!!

ETA: I just got up to pee and realized I had written something "before I fell asleep" but couldn't remember what.  Freaked out, I came here to check...phew! I only made this and one other innocent post while I was half asleep. And not bad on spelling either!

I saw you asked about this in the STM question thread too and I'm sorry I can't help you because this didn't happen to me. I'm sure it has to someone on here though that will have better advice! I would wait and see and if it's still happening and really bothering you, you might as well start wearing the sleep bra/nursing pads now.
  • @becbec28 I'm leaking almost every day too, but in small amounts. Nothing yet the bra can't handle, but if it got to that point I see no reason not to try nursing pads. I know it's normal but I find it so disconcerting!
  • Keep us posted @jlellis603! FX you've just got a low kicker!
  • Um, how about pregnancy clumsiness? I mean, I feel a little unbalanced sometimes, because I know my center of gravity is changing, but my bigger concern is that I have the worst case of butterfingers imaginable. Every time I grab my chapstick off my dresser, I drop it on the ground. I was eating cheetos at my desk yesterday, and I swear that every third cheeto ended up on my office carpet (not cool, because I really love cheetos).

  • Glad everything is ok @jlellis603!

Has anyone ever used a sacroiliac belt? The physical therapist suggested it, but not sure how effective they are.

Lolz! I already use that.  I "borrowed" it from my dad earlier this year after my gall bladder surgery.  I have no intentions of giving it back.  (He wasn't using it anyways. )

  • +1 for varicose vein (back to being painful)

+1 for random stabbing pains and a lot of aches
its definitely worse this pregnancy- I've gotten relief from a neuromuscular clinic (like PT). But my last session was cut short due to a fire alarm and I'm back higher on the pain scale. :(

Add that im now starving like a bottomless pit or I can barely fit any food into my stomach. Weird!!
  • My confession is that I *want* to start leaking. I keep squeezing my boobs every night before I get in the shower, lol. But I sucked at BFing last time and I am determined to make it work this time. So any sign that they're gonna produce something for me would be great!
This is exactly me. I spend a lot of time looking at my boobs thinking - Leak dammit!

But I'm crossing my fingers that the all the boob soreness I feel this time and never felt last time is a good sign.

+1 to being stuck in bed, crazy hard to get up when my bladder is full, sharp pains in the pelvic bones, overall soreness in the belly cause this thing is huge...

I dont know if it's the anterior placenta or what but I never felt this stretched and heavy last pregnant.  My bump is legit sore to the touch.
  • Question about the linea nigra: does it show up all at once and darken over time?  Or, does it show up as a small, darkish line and then grow longer?  I have a dark, 2 inch line directly below my belly button and can't tell if it's the line or a stretch mark.  Doesn't help that I can't actually see it unless I'm using a mirror.

  • Hmm...I am pretty sure mine showed up all at once. But mine goes from my underwear line to my bra line. I know a lot of people only have it go to their belly button. So it could be different for everyone.
  • To add to a couple of other ladies on this thread, I've also got a low kicker. It feels so strange because it feels like the little bean is trying to kick their way out of me sometimes.
On a completely different note though I finally got my first wave of hormones last night. I have never felt so all over the map before emotionally. I was happy, then I was crying then I was angry what felt like all at once. Definitely a head trip.
