Re: Randoms and Questions (10/31-11/6)

• Add me to the big booty list. I'm bummed because the H&M skinny maternity jeans I ordered didn't even go up past my knees and I sized up! I'm feeling sorry for myself today because I'm SO TIRED of feeling like I need to puke all the time and would love to hibernate through the next 6 weeks. Also, I miss my kids, who I barely can interact with. Not to mention the state of my house - it's a disaster. Pity party of 1! Sorry guys.

• The twins will be 2 years 4 months when the new baby comes and we are undecided if we are going to continue RFing past 2. I know I can squeeze a 3rd car seat in there but it will be a tight fit (I need to check the safety of all that). So we'll be keeping my Pilot (latches 3 across) but possibly new car seats (Diono Radian RXTs).

• @chickyclg We extended rear faced with the Diono Radian RXT. We actually just started forward facing a little bit after my daughters 3rd birthday. I love how slim the Radians are. I imagine they will be great for twins. My only complaint about them is they are a beast to carry around (like through an airport) because they are so heavy and tall.

• @Jellybeanqueen13 I'm kicking myself for not buying them before because we spent just as much on their current car seats. I am hesitant to switch to it RFing for my son since he has a spinal deformity and we found ones that were a little plush to prevent his back from bruising. Those are "the" car seats with triplet moms twins +1 moms.

• @carmceg we ended up doing a 3D us with our first. It ended being around 35 weeks (i know, what's the point) but i had a dream about the baby and wanted to confirm his looks and couldn't wait another 5 weeks! Lol. Silly, I know, but it was a great experience and like yours, my husband was really excited... we ended winning a stuffed animal that had a recording of the baby's heartbeat too... so totally worth it!

• @mrsrep123 Luckily at this same place they do a discount if you return for another US, which I think I'll go through with, because I'd like to go back & see the baby.

I know! Imagine I'm only 13 weeks & 35 weeks seems so far!!!

• Re: car buying... When I was preg with my (other) little one, we kept talking about cars and safety and budget and car seats, etc., and ended up buying a new car the week before I was due. I'd recommend not waiting until that close to due date to go car shopping, but the idea to go at the top of the new year is a good one. With a bigger belly, you'll be able to get a better sense of the comfort factor / ease of getting in and out, plus you'll have a few months with the new car to actually get real familiar with its nuances BEFORE you have to drive in it with a new little one (kind of nerve-wracking!). I WISH, though, I'd brought the car seat with us to the dealership during the test drive, because the one we'd already purchased barely fit the way it was supposed to. Not all car seats work with all car models, just keep that in mind. Especially those of you with current little ones and car seats / booster seats, take the time to play around with them in the new vehicles, before you finalize any purchases.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but has anyone ever done a 3D US gender check through a 3rd party clinic? Or will any of you be doing that?

My SO wants to know so badly he asked if we could, apparently they can check 15 weeks & up.

anyone ? lol
I didnt do this but know a few mamas from my old bmb did. If I remember correctly, if they can't determine the sex the first try you can reschedule without paying more. Im tempted but was told that I should get an anatomy scan around 18 weeks so I'm just going to wait.

I was told similar, but SO wants to try since its only $39 at First Peek US until Nov. 15th. Being our first baby he wants to do all the extra stuff haha
Oooh only 39?? I was under the impression it was 100+! Okay I'm even more tempted haha.

ETA: I did some searching and found two places that do them for $75. I guess that's the standard price. I will probably wait until my appointment at the end of Nov when I'm just over 15 weeks and if they end up not scheduling the ultrasound until after xmas I might go ahead and splurge ;)

• @Jkp7749 - Do you have a middle seat for the 2nd row? I have heard, although haven't confirmed yet, that you can remove the captain chairs if needed and also that they can be moved to be next to each other. I've been thinking about this because we have family coming for Christmas and I've been wondering how to place carseats to allow access to the back row.

• Oh yes please tell me everything you all know on car shopping! I totaled mine (embarrassingly) a couple weeks ago and will be getting something new (to me) soon. First time mom, so completely clueless on what I should be looking for in a car. I'm thinking small SUV just because I've driven a small 2 door car basically my whole driving life, and driving anything much bigger (hubby has a Jeep) makes me slightly uncomfortable. I'm sure I'd get used to whatever, but any other tips of what to look for/avoid? Specific models you like/don't like? Help, I'm clueless!!
• FWIW I recently got a RAV4 and I feel like the backseat is so roomy. I then read that it was a "top pick" by some agency for car seat installation - safety and ease of use. For the midsize SUVs I think it has the biggest backseat. Can't speak to multiple car seats - I'm already overwhelmed thinking about just one!

Hmm...I'd consider a Jeep a small SUV. You may want more of a crossover if you're looking for something smaller.

I have a Rav4 too. I love it. But had I known about the backseat seatbelt issue, I'm not sure I would have purchased it. Because of the weird overlapping seat belts between the middle and passenger side back seats, you can only fit 2 people/car seats in the car at one time. You technically can belt 3 people at the same time, but you aren't supposed to. Since I have DD in her carseat back there, I can only carry one additional passenger in my backseat. It makes no sense.

• @CherylE418 the one thing I wish I'd known to think about is that the length of the car matters, specifically the size of the back seat. I have a smaller car and because the distance between the back seat and the back of the front seats, you can't have anyone sit in the passenger seat when the infant seat is installed.
• @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot I didn't realize that was an issue. Mines a 2016 so I wonder if they've fixed it! I'm so lost on the whole LATCH system and how that works etc. I'm going to need a car seat lesson!!
• @CherylE418 I'd suggest that no matter the amount of research you do, it all comes down to the test drive. We had a solid "almost picked out" vehicle that looked great on paper but was just not comfortable for me (5'2") to drive and ride in. Pretty much a bummer. Definitely go for test drives & don't settle until you find a good fit.

@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot I heard about that.... totally boggles the mind...

Hmm interesting. My SIL has a RAV4 (2016 year I'm pretty sure) and she fits three car seats across! She has twin infants and a barely 2 year old. I'll have to ask her how she fits three across! Honestly I wouldn't be super surprised if she rigged some "unsafe" system up though *eyeroll*

• We may be looking for a new car as well. My old subaru forester may not make it much longer. The current family car is our subaru outback. It's a pretty roomy sedan, but with two tall parents, it might be tough for two of us to ride in the car with two RF car seats. I want to keep DS rear-facing for as long as height limits allow. Plus the amount of stuff we'd need to haul around for two kids anytime we spend the night anywhere means we might be looking for something like a minivan in the not so distant future. Not too thrilled about that but oh well. I'm kind of worried about how a minivan with handle in snow, though.

• @h&pmomma I'm not as familiar with the RAV4, although I was looking into getting on. But I believe that regardless of the latch system, if only two seats can be installed using the latches, you can still install the third carseat with the seatbelt. The latch is just much more convenient.

As for everybody wondering about recommendations, Car Seats for the Little on facebook is fantastic if you're trying to figure out what carseat will fit without compromising too much space in your current car (if shopping for a new one is not such a good idea yet) or what cars are great. I personally have a CRV 07 and it's been great with a Britax Marathon Clicktight without pushing the passenger seat forward. I will have to see if I can install the bucket seat next to it so there's room for an adult int he back but we'll see. However I do need to warn anybody that decide to check the group out for the first time - it can get overwhelming and people can come across as harsh sometimes especially when it comes to flights without using a carseat or switching to forward facing under 2. They mean well though.

The bolded is true. But keep in mind that LATCH has a weight limit. So once the kids get bigger, you can't use LATCH. And based on the article above, I'm not sure you could get 3 carseats across in a RAV4.

• I'm not surprised about the RAV4. We had a Kia Sorento that worked great with two car seats but there was no way three would work across. That's why we upgraded to the Toyota Highlander.

And for anyone looking for a third row SUV, make sure you do your research on the third rows that actually have LATCH or anchor systems. Our oldest is almost 5 so she's past the RFing, but I had to make sure that she has a top-teather anchor in the third row (which is the most important anchor when you switch to FFing!)

• @arels483 I'm in Redmond right now :)
• @chickyclg my only issue with the Diono is it is a frigging space hog. Yes, it isn't wide, but the recline angle when rear facing is a nightmare. Even with the angle adjuster you still often have to slide the front seats up quite a bit.

Then I might definitely hold off until FFing then, our Nextfit Zips already have to pull the passenger seat up and can't go behind the driver's seat. I'm thinking of installing the infant bucket to see how it fits one day and then we will make a decision for the BRU trade in event.

Thanks for bringing that up! I'm still learning :) I should look into the limit for latch since my DD is on the high end of her growth chart. As for getting 3 carseats across, that's why I brought up the facebook group. I've seen them recommend certain seats that are more narrow, to make this possible. I just don't know enough myself.

So true! I drive a Kia Soul and it is very annoying how much space they take up rearfacing- even with the angle adjuster that you can buy, we still had to have the seats moved forward uncomfortably far.

No acknowledgement whatsoever.

As far as GIFs go, I'm almost exclusively mobile but I get all my GIFs off giphy.com. Find the one I want, click on it to bring me to its page. Then there's a button that says "tap and hold to copy/paste." I copy it and then back on the Bump, click the little icon with the page with the turned corner, paste it in there and hit "go." Super easy. Similar on a computer but a tiny bit different. Just have to find the link that ends in .gif and paste it in the same spot. I can't ever remember the HTML nonsense that's in the "how to gif" thread.

I LOVE the diono radian RXT! DD is still RF in hers at 2.5. We will turn her most likely when this kid is born. I know the DR RXT you are supposed to be able to fit 3 across!

Yessss. Also, am I the only one who thinks the whole "gobble" thread just should have been brought up in this weekly random/questions thread?! Just seems generic to me and I'm pretty sure we discuss food related issues in here before!

I can't stand that she starts a thread and then is never to be heard from again... until another random thread pops up!

• Ok. Am I the only jerk who cringes every time at the bad grammar involved with "gobble to you wobble?" Maybe it's worse because it's the same poster who used "birth announcements" incorrectly. Just had to get that off my chest.

YES! I've been wanting to bring that up!

Completely random. I was bored and looked at the babycenter may 17 board. Theres already talk about feeling the baby, weird questions like can avocado/guacamole make the baby hair grow so they're born with a full head of hair... its.. i just have no words.

Thank you ladies for being mostly normal.
Haha, I like the "mostly". The May board on my Glow app is just...wow. I can't help but wonder why these ladies don't utilize their Doctors or google more. I try to limit my questions to things I need more of a sounding board/ opinion on than a firm answer.
