Randoms and Questions (10/24-10/30)

I didn't see one of these threads last week so I figured I'd start one this week!

So what's going on ladies? My question is about water intake, I am typically a 70-80oz of delicious plain water a day girl, but for the past 2 weeks or so I am completely struggling.  I can't choke down plain water, diluted juices are ok but I can't do more than a glass a day, I've tried flavored water, sparkling water, and nothing is good.  Anyone else suffering through this? Any suggestions?

  • I used to be a Lacroix junkie but lately the bubbles are a turn off. Thanks, baby! I have been on a tea kick though. Either a giant pitcher of iced tea in the fridge or I'll make a pot of hot tea. Roiboos is yummy and decaf.

Oh and Chick Fil A diet lemonade. Sour has been a big help with my morning sickness and that stuff is delicious.

  • Can we change the title to "Weekly Randoms" like we did last week? I think there's a ton of stuff to talk about that not necessarily all pregnancy.

I skipped right over "Randoms" last week because to me, that's not a questions thread! Lol.  But sure, I'll expand to add randoms.

I've been  bad about water too. Plenty of ice has been the only thing to help me lately.

I thought weekly randoms was everything else NBR. I was looking for RLP in symptoms but never found the symptoms / pregnancy chatter thread last week. Personally I prefer having them as separate threads so I can search better.

  • Alright ladies.  We can have a separate randoms thread if you prefer. But I'd like to point out that the very first post in the randoms thread said it was to encompass all randoms and pregnancy questions/chatter.

  • @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot, I personally, (like many others I think) don't even bother opening a thread if it isn't relevant to me.  So I didn't even see that the first post of "Randoms" was about chatter and questions until today when you pointed it out.  Maybe that's where the confusion is coming from?

  • I think random and questions in one thread is fine. It seems like a good way to get more discussion going because theres more involved, whether its NBR or BR.

I have never been good about water intake to begin with but if I at least have a cup of ice water in front of me during lunch and dinner then Im likely to drink most of it. Otherwise I'll fill out my huge tumblr cup with a straw and just keep it by me and sip throughout the afternoon. I wish I liked sparkling water but I really dont =(

  • Water has been making me super nauseous as well! The only time I've been able to drink a lot of water is after a run. So, I've been hydrating with milk instead. Which it is weird to me that it doesn't bother my stomach at all when water does!

Random- did early voting today and the lines were SO LONG!!!  I carried 1yo instead of using a carrier, and definitely regretted it.
  • I struggle with drinking water even before pregnancy. Im trying really hard right now and I probably still am only drinking 50 oz on a good day. For my birthday my friend just got me a big hydroflask so my goal is to drink two of them a day.

  • @WombThereItIs Now I really want a Chick-fil-A lemonade! Sour has been helping me as well. The closest and ONLY one in our area is 30 minutes away and the line is always ridiculously long, because Chick-fil-A is amazing.

  • I am also struggling to drink water for the last two weeks! I was doing so well, then I got sick and water just didn't seem to satisfy my thirst. I've been trying a lot harder as of the last few days.

Here's an interesting read for anyone :)

  • We experienced our first incident requiring a call to Poison Control this weekend.  DD decided to take a full medicine cup full of kids' Zyrtec because she "had a bad cough" when she woke up Sunday morning. Everything was fine and she had no issues.  Only residual effects have been the parent guilt DH feels for leaving the Zyrtec on the bathroom counter.  I also feel guilty because I knew she went into the bathroom but thought she was just going potty so I didn't check on her immediately.  All meds are now safely out of kid reach.

Me neither! My hubbs (who makes his own home-brewed beer and has a keg on tap) has recently started making his own seltzer water, which is basically just a sparkling water (it's H20 plus CO2), and he loves having it on hand (and it's way cheaper than buying it by the bottle, which we used to do). But I can't stand it! That taste is horrible! I've been struggling with the "drink more water" thing, too, so you all are not alone. I wish I could go back to adding Crystal Light to everything (it goes down so much nicer) but I'm trying to avoid the artificial colors and flavors. Hopefully this lets up in a few weeks? I'm with @WombThereItIs, I love making a nice pot of tea, then refridging the rest for iced later.
  • @WombThereItIs Tea is normally another favorite and the mere thought of it makes me heave now :-(   I did just make a big pot of peppermint tea I am going to try and pour over ice and choke down!  I should try the roobios like you recommended.

  • @MTB16 maybe try some fruit infused water?  Try putting your favorite fruits (strawberries, raspberries, oranges, etc) into a water pitcher and drink it the next day?  It adds a little bit extra flavor to make it not so awful.

I feel your pain, I've had to up my intake because I was having such bad cramps and getting woozy when standing because I wasn't drinking enough, so I'm trying to choke it all down.

CarmCeG , that article is very interesting. I'm a first time mom, so I have no experience to say whether it is actually confirmed through the kids habits, but I'll make sure I eat as healthy as I could (just in case).
  • You guys, I am so happy that i am not the only one going through this water hate phase!! Obviously I wish none of us were, but damn it feels good to know I'm not alone!

  • I too am struggling hardcore with drinking water! I have a big glass of OJ every morning and have gotten a few other oz through ginger ale and sprite, but those leave the nastiest taste in my mouth! It has to be really, really cold with tons of ice!

Yessss to whoever mentioned Chickfila lemonade. I have been craving that and luckily, there's one just across the street from the office. Now I may need to run out and get some...

I have a random Q: Anyone else getting terribly full after eating not that much? I keep making myself miserable when I eat, though its less than I normally would. Saturday it was Chickfila, 4 nuggets and a medium fry and I was so uncomfortable.

ETA: I don't realize while eating, its only after I am done. Today I'm eating slow to see if I can gauge it better.

  • I know we are a long way off from discussing inductions and delivering but my anxiety is high. With DD#1 I labored 16 hrs- my water broke first and real contractions didn't start until they started pitocin. DD#2 came much quicker at 2hrs 7min (from first contraction to in my arms).  Since both labors were relatively short (especially the second) the Doctors and nurses both mentioned that I would probably be induced. I have kaiser as my insurance and the hospital that I am supposed to deliver at is about 45 min away. Has anyone been induced because of quick labor or had friends that did. I really hated pitocin and know I would like to avoid using it. I am against the idea of being induced but also don't want to have the baby on the side of the road. Any thoughts?
  • I've got a question. Anyone nervous to have sex in first trimester? My last pregnancy dh and I did the deed and that one ended in a MC and I'm scared it'll happen in this pregnancy.

  • @MamaMiller not sure if this helps but my mom was induced for that reason (25 years ago).  I was the first baby and her labor with me was pretty standard, around 14 hours.  Two years later her labor with my sister was 90 minutes, start to finish.  With my brother three years later, the doctor waited until her due date and then broke her water for her (no induction drugs) and that did the trick and pretty quickly.  You could ask your doctor about that, although it may not working since you needed pitocin with your DD #1 even after your water had broken.
  • @RainyDays86- you are just super helpful today- thanks friend- I certainly will discuss more in the future. Pitocin was used with my first because my water broke and I was only at 3 cm. I think they just wanted to speed things along. I really hated the side effect of the drug and hadn't done any research in it. My biggest advice to FTM is do your research going in!
  • I was nervous! I know that it's okay and can't harm the baby or anything. I was just worried it'd make me bleed and that I'd freak out over the fact that I was bleeding. Its always fine though!

I was because I always get bleeding after sex for medical reasons (sorry tmi) but I found that I have had less bleeding since I've been pregnant. Even though we haven't done the deed very often because of my anxiety

  • @Amybee5 : Congrats!
I don't think it's a problem to post a pic here. In fact, there (soon) will be a Weds HDBD thread starting (stands for Hump Day Bump Day, where everyone can post their bump shots). Looking at your pic, I'd call that a baby bump! Does it feel like its on the firm side? Then that'd be a yes.   :)
  • @Amybee5 I popped a little bump at about 11 weeks 3 days. I'm now at 12 weeks 3 days and pretty similar to your pic! It's unlike any time I've had fat on my stomach, slightly different shaped.

  • @SKZW  Yes it's firmer for sure and I can't suck it in anymore!

I cant wait to see everyone else's!!!

My mom had my sister within 12 hours then me in 3-4. The doctor basically told my parents that my dad would need training on how to deliver a baby safely if they had gotten pregnant with a third. She always joked she wouldn't even make it to the car and basically deliver on the driveway. I like that what the doctor did for your mom though!

  • @MamaMillert has started to get better now that Im starting to relax about being pregnant! I'm loving the dreams that leave me feeling.. dare I say.. aroused. ::blushing emoticon because there should be one!::

  • Hey ladies! Happy to see the random thread back in action. The end of last week was super crazy at work for me, so I feel VERY behind in the chit chat! :-)

Water has been rough for me, too. I'm not great at drinking it when not pregnant, when most of my fluid intake is iced coffee, iced coffee, iced coffee, and alcohol. I'm trying to force myself to drink more water by drinking fizzy water. It's sort of working.

Also, NBR, every year we throw a big Friendsgiving at our house and our friends come in from out of town. I'm really dreading it this year because I have zero motivation to menu plan and it's usually a big weekend of drinking and catching up with each other (none of them have children). I'm just feeling sorry for myself and wishing that I wasn't sitting here trying to cobble together a menu...BAH.
