As I've said before this is my first time being pregnant and I have many questions. lol
I've read in different areas that I am already in my second trimester, or nearing the end of my first trimester, but I know I'm a little over 12 weeks. On another website I read that my 14th week would be considered my 2nd trimester. I'm just a little confused and would like someone to clear this up for me.
I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense. I'm typing it as I'm thinking it haha
Technically 14 wks is correct 12 wks X 3 = 36 weeks 14wks Xs 3 is 42 weeks. Basically a 36 weeker still could be under developed compared to a full term baby.
@CarmCeG My doctor classifies 2nd trimester as beginning at 12 weeks. She explained that there are different ways of calculating and that she uses the developmental method. The majority of major organs and things are developed by 12 weeks (or something along those lines) i had found an article that better explains it. I will post it if I find it again.
Yea, the 1st/ 2nd tri thing is kind of confusing! My Dr. must consider the start of the 12th week the 2nd trimester though because she congratulated me on getting out of the first. I decided I'm going to go with 13 weeks though. Meh.
@CarmCeG Yeah, it's confusing getting different answers. I usually just split them as 14, 13, 13 = 40 wks. I let first tri be the longer one since technically the first two weeks are freebies. For me it's a mental thing; then the other trimesters don't feel as long .

So here's a question that's relevant to where many of us are. How do you know when the uterus actually "pops" out above the pelvic bone? I've heard you just know once it happens, and that your lower abdomen feels harder. I'm just curious if someone could describe that more?
@starphish18 I'm overweight to begin with, I never felt that I looked pregnant at all in my first pregnancy. DS1 was born at 30 weeks and looking back at pictures, I had to pose with belly to make it obvious that it wasn't just normal weight gain. DS2 seemed to gradually pop out. I don't remember really feeling I just popped one day rather it happened slowly for me.
@starphish18 - I am interested to see what other folks have to say about this as well. For me, I feel like when I can no longer suck in my belly, it's no longer just belly...haha. I am almost 10 weeks and am fairly certain I've already popped, but feel ridiculous saying that. I have a home doppler, and the baby's heartbeat is well above my pubic bone- definitely higher than where my son was at this point.

@starphish18 I have never felt like it just popped out overnight. It was more gradual. However, I put on pants Tuesday that I wore last Wednesday and I couldn't button them. This seemed weird to me since the day before I weighed in 2 pounds less than the same time last week. Yesterday, the doc told me I'm down 3 pounds. He said my uterus is palpable above my pubic bone. I guess this time it did kind of just pop out. So, I am actually in maternity pants today. They are SO comfortable! I am 10+1 today BTW. I've never had to wear maternity this early as I don't have a lot of bloat.
Ive noticed an actual little pointy bump. It's different than when I'm bloated or just have extra weight in my stomach. It's right under my belly button and juts out at kind of an odd angle. It feels firm, but not all the time
Tuesday when i went to the Dr, they listened to heartbeats. I expected her to find them much lower but they were already close to my belly button. I have a very obvious bump at this point (11+3). It isn't hard on top obviously, but i've gained hardly any weight and look very different than before I was pregnant.
@starphish18 I agree with @kayemjay2. When I could no longer suck in or when I pushed on my lower belly and it didn't flatten. For me last time it was very low and nothing like when I put on a few pounds. I don't remember when it was first noticeable last round. It is not noticeable to me yet at 10 weeks, although I have noticed that some baggier undies are now fitting correctly, so it has probably started.
I'm pretty clueless on the uterus popping out and I'm a STM haha. I remember some mamas in my last board were like I can feel the top of my uterus! I asked my OB halfway through my last pregnancy and she tried to show me but I still couldn't figure it out. My belly did feel a little different last night laying down at about 11 weeks, but I still feel like
You guys oh my goodness today has been SO LONG!! Daughter woke up super puny, and then started puking everywhere. So all morning was her being puny and sick. Then she took a super short nap, and woke up cranky and needy (but not sick any more, thank goodness!!). Little sister of course waited until nap time to puke all over her pack n play. Sigh. Hopefully they will both be back to themselves tomorrow. I can dream, anyway!
Do you get notifications when someone tags your name in a post? How do I know if someone tagged me without having to look at the thread?
@MrsCPALeslie Yup. In the top right corner of the page there's a little icon of (what looks to me like) a globe? There's 4 icons; this is the one on the left. If there is a red box with a number inside, that indicates the number of Notifications for you. If someone tags you in a post, it'll list the post name, and you can simply click on the post From There, and it will take you there (meaning, you don't have to go back out to the main page and scroll and look for that post). Also, if you start a thread, it will Notify you in that same little place of all instances of anyone posting to that discussion. That's my understanding of what that means, at least. Hope that helps!
@SKZW thanks, this helps but I'm always accessing the bump from the app on my phone. so, can I only see the notifications online and not through the app?
@starphish18 - They say it feels like a firm balloon. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I have never been able to recognize it. At 12 weeks, it should be about the size of a grapefruit and still be tucked in under the pelvic bone.

LOL at this. By 37 weeks my ute disappeared under my sternum! That's not a bad approximation but shit definitely gets weird.
@WombThereItIs Haha "shit definitely gets weird". Love it. I have a really short upper body, so I have a feeling that chart won't be too accurate for me, either.
So based on that diagram, 22 weeks at the belly button would mean that woman's belly button is (approximately) 22 cm above her pelvis, yes? I assume that's pretty close to average. My belly button is only around 15 cm above, and my sternum is just below 30. Sooo, pretty sure this baby is going to have to shoot outward. (Then again, I'm a newb here, so I may have no idea what I'm talking about)

It probably will and that's why you will be able to measure 40 cm or close... you're belly will grow, allowing there to be more cm to measure.

I think you're on the right track but you do have to take into account the "roundness factor"---by this, I mean, when the doc measures the fundal height, the flexible tape measure runs from the bottom up, from the pelvic bone up and "over" the roundness and up toward the belly button/top of uterus/fundus, for the total measurement. Think about taking a tape measure to a beach ball, starting from one end up-and-over to the other end. Then think of taking that same measurement, point to point, of the ball once deflated. The measurements will differ. That's my take on it, from what I remember of the measurements last time. The rule of thumb is that the centimeters match the gestation weeks, so 25 cm is expected around 25 weeks. There's a few issues that can affect this: twins, multiples, breech position (and maybe even short stature?), but it's often this rule of thumb that's a quick way to track development/progression/potential issues. Your doc may alter this rule of thumb for you and your personal situation, so I wouldn't sweat it for now. The baby will find a way to grow and develop and your body will accommodate! Trust me, it'll work and things will move and you don't have to worry about a "shooting completely laterally outward" looking belly.
@starphish18@skzw you guys are on the right track! Generally speaking (despite the diagram) I've always been told that the bellybutton is the 20 week landmark. I'm still a student so I have lots to learn, however I have never seen stature (short or tall) lead to a measurement discrepancy. Just a short mom is you end up measuring more out and the tall moms you end up measuring more up-and-down. Eventually you will probably be able to feel your uterus I would say that the top of it feels slightly denser like maybe a nerf ball in there. It's firmer than the rest of your organs but it's not super easy to feel if you don't know what you're looking for. And I would wait til 16+ (closer to maybe 20 especially if there's a little more "fluff" there) before really trying to feel it much. I'm real to be there already.
In other news, I realized that 10 weeks is a quarter of the way through my pregnancy. This is simple math that everyone else has probably already figured out, but it seems weird because I still don't even really feel pregnant most of the time unless I'm sick to my stomach.
@starphish18 I have the opposite of you and have a long torso, but it never effected any of my fundal measurements!
@ShadeofGreen816 I love your enlightenment! I am also 10 weeks and hadn't stumbled upon that simple math yet but was so excited to read I'm 1/4 of the way done!

Does anyone else feel too sick to even look at a screen? This past week anytime I think about checking in it has made me nauseous. I hate it because I want to be more active. I'm 12 weeks now and The morning sickness is so much worse. I laugh at my 9 week self who was all worried about lack of ms. Anyway thers so much on this thread I want to comment on.
For the actual feeling a bump, just now when I lie flat on my back i can feel a small bump that kind of feels like a balloon or something that is slightly higher than my pelvic bone. This week i also had to legit switch to maternity pants since I can't button regular ones now.
@ShadeofGreen816 about the dreams. Yes! That's happening to me. With DD I had the best sex dreams all the time. And the dreams included pretty much anyone I happened to run into during the day. With DS I had constant horrific nightmares and no sex dreams. Now with this pregnancy I'm getting the fun ones again. But no sex drive during the day. Probably because it gets taken care of while I'm asleep.
Also I am trying to figure out how we want to announce about #3. I guess I need to go find the announcement thread.
It's a sticky called birth announcements.
The stickies are getting out of hand especially for we mobile users. I'm wondering how long until we have the inevitable poll about which we want to unstick. It's a bmb milestone.

FFFC, I always scroll past the stickies without thinking, there really are too many.

I agree, we have 6 at the moment and I think we should only have 5 max. I propose that we request the PLEASE READ FIRST thread to be unstickied and we can move some of the necessary info from there to the intro thread or something.
