Re: ****October WTO *****

  • I willl start off the thread by saying I'm CD 8. I had a weird temp spike today. Not sure what that's about. I'm 6-12 days away from ovulating and DH is gone next weekend, so hopefully we can time it right. I'm still having a bad migraine that has caused half of my body to numb up. I can't get into a neurologist until Cd 17, so it will be too late to bench me. I'm hoping that this goes away. It's not good for someone with hypochondria!
  • Ugh @chloe97 persistent migraine sounds awful. This time in the cycle is so boring, im cd7. Hope you're feeling better for O time!

  • @amberruka We had to BD 3 days in a row when we were visiting my parents last winter. It was so awkward since our room was next to the living room and my dad sleeps odd hours.

@chloe97 sorry to hear about your migraine - I hope you get some relief soon!

@szwill86 I hear ya on not much to report... I keep staring at my chart like suddenly it will tell me something.

This is my first cycle after loss and its CD17. I'm normally a late O'er so who knows when (if) I'll O this month. I had a weird temp rise for 2 days that fell back down this morning so that was confusing. OPKs are the faintest of faint. I normally have some decent lines by now but whatever, I guess I'll keep peeing and waiting. And HIO.

  • Hey ladies. I haven't gotten CD1 I'm waiting in limbo and hanging out here until AF officially shows. I think it'd be too foolish if I expect at BFP at this point and I'm not testing at all again. I'm going to get OPK to track ovulation better this month and maybe a new thermometer too.
  • Hey guys. Trying to not obsessively buy OPKs in bulk! I'm following my app timing but, for the most part, we BD every other day when we're healthy anyway so we should be covered! LOL TMI I know! As my man says "we know we can get knocked up. Don't need to spend a fortune on tests telling us that. We'll save that money for diapers and just do what we do." I love him to pieces.

Right there with you! I've been waiting since my MMC on 8/5. I still have HCG elevated, but my temps suggest I ovulated on 9/18, so I am hoping AF shows up soon!!!

  • @weareturtles I had a pregnancy of unknown location apparently and miscarriage on 8/27. Still awaiting AF let's hope we get it and FX for next cycle when we do!
  • After last month I resigned myself to the idea that maybe I don't ovulate. I started OPK on CD8 and got negatives for a few days.
Then Saturday after we came home from a wedding, it was like 11pm and I usually test at 7pm. Lo and behold, I got a positive on CD12! This was a major shocker to me. The last time I got a positive was a couple months ago on CD15, and a temp spike confirmed it. This time I'm mad because I haven't been temping this month so I can't CONFIRM anything. BUT! At least I saw that smiley. We did the deed that night, and missed last night so I'm hoping we didn't miss the window.
I'm not as stressed out about it though. Thank goodness. I guess my stress was all about the looming 'TTC < 1 year' mark. Now that's it's passed, I feel a bit more relaxed. Guess I was subconsciously putting a timeline on it.
  • @E2theB Yay for the positive OPK. Have you temped passed cycles? Do you have a general sense what your post-O temps are? The 70+ day cycle after my D&C, I started temping after I thought I may have ovulated to confirm ovulation. Though not super accurate, it reassured me that I most likely ovulated and I did get AF around the time I thought that I would.

CD 11 over here and I swear I am feeling each and every little milometer of follicle growth. I thought I was gassy. Then I thought it was a cyst. Then today I had my follies checked for trigger and IUI and found three maturing and one small guy!

How are you guys all doing on this Monday?

To keep some interest/activity on the board, I am going to pose a GTKY question... hope that's ok!

What's your favorite fall holiday and associated tradition? Are you keen on Halloween? Thankful for Thanksgiving? Crazy for Christmas?

As for me, I have never been that big on any particular holiday, but have come to love the Christmas season. Mainly because my husband is like Clark W. Griswold when it comes to exterior illumination (really all things Christmas) and his child-like joy for the holiday is kinda contagious. My two favorite things about Christmas are: 1. Husband full-on decorates our house with all the lights he can find and makes it bigger and better every year and 2. We have a killer Christmas party that has taken on a life of its own - usually ends up being over 30 people in tacky, fun seasonal attire drinking heavily (including from the ice luge) and the white elephant gift exchange has become the stuff of legend. :) Besides St. Patrick's Day, Christmas Party day is my other favorite day of the year.

(Below are the last 4 years of exterior lighting!)

  • Woah @fivetimesnoluck I am in love with your lights! I am definitely a Christmas crazy & this is the first year we've owned a home so I'm excited to be able to do outdoor lights :)

My mom always made a huge deal out of Christmas when we were little (like has a tree and theme for every room) and we always started celebrating right after thanksgiving dinner. So many fun family traditions...egg nog and carols with my dad, gingerbread house decorating, Christmas Eve at Grandma's and seafood chowder for Christmas Dinner. I love EVERYTHING about the Christmas season, the smell of balsam, the first snow, fleece pj's, wrapping presents but my absolute favorite is sitting in the living room with just the Christmas tree on, so peaceful and reminds me of such happy times.

On the flip side I think that's why not having any children is so very hard, esp during the holidays, because I so badly want to start those traditions with my own family. Someday, sigh

I love this! I decorate my house for Halloween/ fall, Christmas, Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day and decorate my mantle for each one ( pics below). I love doing my Christmas village every year since my grandmother who is no longer with us have me most of them. We also get ornaments from any little trips or vacations we take during the year so whenever I'm decorating my tree so many ornaments bring back memories.

  • @fivetimesnoluck - your house looks amazing and your Xmas party sounds like so much fun...drinks from an ice luge!?

@SoonToBeMommaHowe - I get that - that makes the holidays bittersweet for me too. Something to look forward to some day but bitterweet for now.

Agreed! You all have gorgeous houses. I'm jealous!

Popping in this morning to vent about my CBE Advanced OPK. I'm at CD11 right now, I ovulate around cd 18 typically. The earliest I've ever ovulated was CD14/15. Today on my 2nd day using it, and I got a stagnant smiley face-which means positive. Meanwhile my OPK strips gave me a very faint 2nd line=negative. I had a saline sonogram yesterday, so my CM us still a bit messed up, but I have no reason to believe I'm ovulating this early based on any signs. I'm so pissed, that test was $40 and it was defective. Never ever am I buying expensive OPKs from amazon again. I'm so annoyed right now!!!!
  • @chloe97 ugh so sorry you wasted money. That's why I'm scared to buy those and just stick to my internet cheapies. Hopefully you have some of those other opks left to use instead. $40 for something to not work sucks.
  • @chloe97 that sucks big time!  I guess pricier isn't always better but sucks we always gotta find out at the expense of our wallets!
  • Thanks everyone!

@TScalei Love your mantle decorations! That's something I definitely miss having - no fireplace in our house. (Not that you need one much here!) I have always loved the Christmas Village displays.

And yes, the ice luge is a hit every year. One of my good friends is from the northeast and they were huge when she was in college, so she mentioned it one time and then poof the next year she had made one and brought it with her! It's hilarious.

@SoonToBeMommaHowe I totally get wanting to share these traditions with our own children. That's something that has been hard for me every year too. It sucks.

@szwill86 There is a noticeable spike in our electric bill every year! :)

@NewMommyCoop Soffit outlets would be awesome!

@chloe97 That really sucks that you wasted money on one of those CBEs! I am sorry. So annoying, I am sure!

  • @chloe97 I stopped using them because I had that happen to me in two different cycles! And I was also verifying with wondfos which were VERY negative at the time. When I called the company the first time they actually told me to make an appointment with my doctor because it most likely meant something was wrong. They made it seem like it was so impossible for their product to be wrong that I basically had to have PCOS. I was pissed. They sent me a new box and then it happened again another cycle. I still have them but I haven't touched them. I like them for the blinking smiley that tells me my estrogen is increasing. But the LH seems to be wayyy off the mark.

@BitterBetty12 Ok glad to hear that it's not just me. And WTF about the company saying something is wrong with you? I could understand if your wondfo was also reporting a LH surge way too early, but that makes no sense at all. Basically by giving you a stagnant smiley face, they are giving you a positive LH surge reading. I'm more apt to believe an analog test. I thought maybe mine were defective because I bought them on amazon for some British company. For what it's worth, I also had both the digital FRERs give me no results when I used them to test last cycle. I call BS on these digital tests!
  • @chloe97 I have those in my Amazon cart! I am not buying them now. I am just so frustrated that my Wondfos aren't even darkening that they MUST be wrong, it's not just that my body isn't ovulating yet. Nope, must be the test.   :#

  • @hartmich, I'd try buying them from the drugstore maybe? It's very possible that I got a scam batch. I checked my amazon records and I actually paid $25, but I'm pretty sure that they cost $50 at Walgreens by my house. They seemed like they were normal.
  • @chloe97 now you've got me all freaked out because I only use CBD OPKs since I get false surges on the dip strips. Now what if I get false surges on the digitals...ahhhh.

Anyway I get to start peeing on things tomorrow!! Last cycle I O'd on cd18, a day earlier than the previous cycle, so I'm gonna start POAS on cd 12 just to be safe (and to have a reason to pee on things cause I love doing that).

Has anyone had a saline sonogram and noticed weirdos discharge/spotting?TMI warning- I've had brown spotting for the last couple days after the test, which isn't a huge deal, but last night I passed a huge brown gunk-which I can't decide if it was the betadine with CM or just a glunk of old period blood making its way out. I did have some definite EWCM in there, though which seems early for me at cd11. I'm wondering if it's leftover from last cycle? My wondfo OPK is still light, but that stupid CBE OPK has me worried I'm about to ovulate. Because of the procedure, DH and I haven't BD, but maybe we will tonight just in case.
  • @chloe97 I can't answer the saline sonogram question but I can say that when I am unsure, I trust my CM more than using OPKs. I'd BD if possible bc it can't do any harm if it isn't near your O time.
  • Thanks @szwill86. We probably will tonight, I was worried about doing it yesterday so soon after the procedure. Now I'm kind of worried we missed our window because my temp did go up slightly and things seemed to have dried up this morning. Maybe it was a false surge?
  • @chloe97 and @hartmich I am sure it is different for everyone, but I have had great success with the CBE Advanced Ovulation sticks. I have used them for almost two years, sometimes to know when to use protection and also when to BD. I buy mine at Walgreen's and 20 tests costs me $59.99. I usually buy them when they have the 10,000 rewards points because that equals $10 free to use for a later purchase. I also use my flexible spending account to get reimbursed for them, so at least they are income tax free.

  • If anyone has a HSA or FSA, check out drugstore.com. They have a section where you can shop specifically for FSA-approved items, and some fertility/family-planning stuff is approved.

I only contribute $10 a week to my FSA and even with all my appointments and bills this year I had a boatload of money to burn, so I bought OPK and HPTs online (still have yet to need the HPT though, grrrr)
