@alyssajrob22 I don't know the real name of them but we got a set of sheet clips to keeps the damn sheets on. They come in a set of 4. There is a Clip on each end of strip of elastic. You clip to sheet corners and the elastic piece goes under the matress. They definitely help to keep sheets in place. I'll see if I can find a pic online
@alyssajrob22 I use a liquid liner (Stila @Sephora) and I love it because I don't have to sharpen a pencil. No suggestions on the sheets though--ours even have "deep pockets" but manage to come off the bed every night!
I use the same eyeliner and it's hands down my favorite!

Lol I'm just saying- I want a fitted sheet that just works. No clips needed. I totally appreciate the clips I've bought them before too. But WTF world. Some of us have issues and need a fitted sheet that's fitted.
(Wasn't paying attention and had this on the symptoms thread but I think it fits here better)
Have my appointment today (38+3) and a growth scan which I'm excited about. I've been consistently measuring about 2 weeks ahead in fundal measurements since week 30 I believe. So they've been telling me baby is probably on the bigger side, but our last sonogram was also at 29 weeks and she was measuring in the 51st percentile. So I'm hoping she's not actually that big, although I dunno why I'm measuring ahead. I had normal amount of amniotic fluid at 29 weeks too. I feel like it's my extra fat because I can't see how that doesn't skew the measurements but when I mentioned that when they first started measuring they said it didn't effect it and I was right on schedule at first at least. I know US measurements can be off by a lot at this point, but I'm still really excited to find out how big they think she is. Also anything else they can tell me about her. DH is stepping out of work to be there. He wasn't at the last US and when I called him afterwards he teared up and really regretted missing it. Tender hearted guy : Hopefully we get the good tech like last time. She spent so much time just showing me and my mom lots of stuff and trying to get the best shots of baby (although baby wasn't cooperating.)
@jacmkelley The only fitted sheets that stay on my bed are our "winter" sheets - we use jersey or flannel in the winter, and they are stickier. Our "summer" sheets, which are usually light cotton or satin never stay put. So, there is a sheet that stays put... but I don't think you want flannel in August in Texas!
I can't remember who did the basement organizing a couple weeks ago, but I finally found some motivation to work on mine the past couple days. (Thanks tornado warnings and heat advisory) I have a few random boxes of DD1s out grown clothes to sort thru and box up for storage, then my basement will be back in order. Because you know the baby will be spending lots of time in the basement and needs it organized before she comes! Lol

LOL! No! I don't think I want flannel ever. I like a cold bed. Even in winter.
@alyssajrob22 I use cheap cover girl eyeliner, the kind you twist to get more instead of sharpen. It works so well I've been using it for over 10 years lol. I'm jealous you still have the ambition for makeup! I've put it on once in the last month

That would be me. The nesting craze I had was fleeting. I only had the urge to organize everything for about four days and now I don't want to clean anything. I barely managed to wash all of baby's clothes this week. I say take advantage of the nesting energy while you are up to it!

@alyssajrob22 omg the stupid fitted sheet. I have no idea what DH does every night but that thing is OOC every morning when I make the bed. I curse up a storm every day because it irritates me so much. I agree... I don't want to mess with clips. I just want it to do what it's supposed to.... FIT!
I think for the first time ever, DH and I have every room in the house clean AND all the laundry done, folded and put away. I'm only 36 weeks but I'm just saying kid if you wanna come out now would be the perfect time! Lol. Just kidding stay put for a little bit longer please!

AW but my birthday is tomorrow and I bought myself a new purse that doubles as a diaper bag! I've been needing to upgrade my purse for a while because the one I have right now is way too small, the only thing I can fit in it is my wallet, so I'm super excited I found a diaper bag that looks like a purse so I don't have to carry around the big diaper bag when I'm only gonna be out for a couple hours. It's from Little Unicorn and I can't wait for it to come in the mail.
You know you're a new mom or mom-to-be when it's your birthday and you buy yourself something baby related!!
@alyssajrob22 have you tried sheet suspenders? I know it sounds weird, but they clip onto your sheets at the corners and hold the fitted sheet down. I got a set of them after i got a mattress topper that made my sheets a little to tight and they kept coming up. search for "The Original New and Improved Sheet Suspenders ( grippers, fasteners, holders) Brand Mini's. More Adjustable than a Band" on Amazon. That's the set i got. Love them!!
on the top of the cervical checks... My appointment last week was with the midwife instead of my usual doctor (so i know someone else in the practice "just in case"). After she did the group b test, she did a cervical check. She gave me no warning. You should definitely warn/ask before just reaching in there.
You know you're a new mom or mom-to-be when it's your birthday and you buy yourself something baby related!!
For my birthday last year my mom took me shopping and I ended up with a bunch of clothes for DD. I literally picked out nothing for me. This little guy is due 2 days before my birthday and I can see being way more excited for his birthday than mine. I have way more fun picking out stuff for them than for myself.
Well DH didn't get the job he interviewed for. His HR called him today, on his day off, to let him know. I think that's a little rude, she could've just told him tomorrow when he's there. I'm probably just as disappointed or even more than he is.
@Lynnlove28 I am so sorry he didn't get the job. I know that's crummy. If it makes you feel any better i work in recruiting and we usually call candidates internal or not the same day we find out who is getting the job. I work in a large corporation and legality issues arise when you don't notify candidates before hiring others sometimes. Also, we find it to be courteous to let our candidates know ASAP so that they are left wondering what's up. She may have thought that he would want to know instead of being told later. Or the word getting out someone else was chosen today and someone else telling him outside of HR. I'm sure she didn't think about how it may seem to not wait until tomorrow. Majority of the time our candidates want to know if they got the job or not and are sitting by the phones. Hope that helps make you feel a little better! I am sure she wasn't trying to be ugly.
@jacmkelley I didn't look at it like that! That makes me feel a little better about them calling him today. His HR isn't very good at her job and plays her favorites. She's just not very professional in general so I pretty much assume that most of the things she does are unprofessional.
@Lynnlove28 So sorry he didn't get the job. That blows. I agree with @jacmkelley though, there are good reasons to tell him right away. Personally, I'd rather hear bad news when I can be alone to process it a bit, rather than when I have to be around other people and put on a cheerful face.
@Lynnlove28 so sorry about DH's job, that's so disappointing for both of you.
@jacmkelley I'm with you on the cool sheets! I like our bedroom to be cool when I sleep, even in the middle of winter. I can't imagine sleeping in flannel sheets, I think I would sweat to death!
@jacmkelley@bookhousegirl we live in the mountains in Vermont, and our house was built in 1901, with a dirt basement and stone foundation. It's been renovated, but when it's 17 below the house gets cold pretty much no matter what you do! So... flannel sheets
@Lynnlove28 It's hard because when you work at a company and you know the personalities it's easy to make it personal. It will work out! I always tell myself and other coworkers "What's meant to be yours will be yours." No one can take that away from you. In fact when you don't get the job you wanted it's because it was meant for someone else to have, have faith in that. Because one day when the right this does come along your husband will want it to be the right job and the job meant for him to have. Just hang tight! There will be a silver lining!
@Bookhousegirl Same! But like @Allisun85 said we prob both don't live in -17 degree weather or a home built in 1901- renovated or not I prob have no idea what cold even means in my house lol. I would use flannel sheets then too!!!
Sorry @Lynnlove28 , at least you're no worse off than before! Still disappointing though, I know.
Along the lines of sleeping temps; our bedroom is always like 10° colder than the rest of the house. The thermostat is in the hallway next to the laundry room where there is a big open vent from the attic so I think that's to blame. But our room is still much colder than the other 2 bedrooms. Now this is not really a problem because we like it to be pretty cold when we sleep, but if baby is going to be sleeping in the room with us, it creates some issues. I bought a little nightlight thing that displays the temp in the room and changes color depending on the temperature range so it's easy to tell if it's the right temp for baby. Right now the thermostat is set to 72, reading 74 and the thermometer in our room is reading 64.4. I can't figure out how we are going to keep it warm enough in the bedroom without making the rest of the house super hot? At night when we're both in the bedroom, we can just turn it up, but what about when baby is napping? (And of course we don't have any ceiling fans.)
@Car0liiine colder is usually better than too hot, so I wouldn't worry too much. Just bundle the baby up (long sleeve sleep n play and a swaddle/sleep sack) and LO should be fine.
I'm jealous. No AC, no electric heat, just a wood stove in the winter and fans in the summer.
No idea how to dress a NB in this heat. Maybe a onesie and muslin swaddle??? I'm hoping fall comes early. It's been getting down to the 70-mid 60s at night but the house stays warm from being 85-90 during the day.
@jacmkelley@Allisun85 True, I live in Southern Connecticut, so it does get cold, but not that cold! And we live in a pretty new/insulated townhouse, so no basement issue. I would probably be layered in 5 down comforters in that kind of cold!
@Car0liiine I would just invest in some sleep sacks and leave your room cold. That what I did because our room is in the basement and it's colder downstairs than upstairs. So we have sleep sacks and fleece sleepers in all sizes
@Car0liiine echoing what PP said I think sleep sacks would be your best option! It's better cold than hot, don't quote me on this but overheating puts baby at a higher risk for SIDS. DD was born at the tail end of October so she was young during all the cold months. One of my favorite things for her was a fleece(?) material thing. It had sleeves like an outfit and zipped up but the bottom was the sack. Perfect for the super cold nights.
@Lynnlove28 those are exactly what I was talking about! I think they are called sleep sacks. And I've heard that about sids prevention too... better to have a cool room and a fan going if you can. Both can reduce the risk
Any ladies with big tatas have recommendations for nursing bras? I'm currently still wearing my pre-pregnancy bras, size DDD from Soma. I have tried on a bunch of sleep nursing bras and even though the largest sizes in most stores claim to fit an E (DDD) cup, my boobs have been totally hanging out of them. They might work if you have naturally perky boobs but in this size range, I don't think that's usually the case. Not for me at least. At this point my plan would just be to wear my normal bras. Also, do I really need tops made specifically for nursing? Are they expensive? Can you only get them from specialty shops? Ugh I sure hope nursing attire is easier to find than maternity attire was or I'm just gonna be going topless for the next year . . .
i found it on amazon too. It's not cheap, but last time I got a couple from motherhood maternity that never did fit right, and I decided I was going to get better bras this time. I'm an F, and found this to be nice and supportive.
i never bought nursing specific tops other than 2 nursing tanks, which I wore under almost everything. I would just pull shirt up, and stomach would stay covered by tank. I found tanks at target that I loved, they were a nice length and did give me the uni-boob look that some tanks too. They are with the nursing bras and were labeled "basic", not sure of the exact brand. I actually still wore the tanks when I was done nursing cause I liked the way they fit so much.
Arrrgh, Target.com! I hate placing orders with them now. I tried to order something today and applied a gift card I got from making a big baby purchase a week or two ago. Well, first, it tried to apply the gift card twice ($50 off instead of $25), then the order did not go through but it still zeroed out my gift card balance! The online chat was, as usual, completely unhelpful, but they did give me a number to call, and the rep did reinstate my balance, but the order still would not go through online. She finally placed it for me over the phone. I will say the phone rep was great, but the Target website is such a nightmare that I really don't think I am going to shop online with them anymore. Every single time there is an issue!

Gosh I'm jealous of your cold room @Car0liiiine Agree with PP about sleep sacks and too cold being better than too hot. Long sleeve onesies underneath a sleep sack should really help. Or the swaddle sacks with velcro. I loved those and they seemed to keep DD very cozy when we went to Canada.
I'm pretty sure our AC is on its way out. The AC man comes tomorrow, but last night I could barely sleep because it just felt like it was blowing around half cool air. I love Texas and hate complaining about the heat, but this could be a really rough weekend if it can't be fixed quickly. I might be heading to a hotel!
Sleep sacks are awesome. So awesome that we plan to get a couple more in the next few days! We have the fleece kind but there are lighter cotton materials baby can better wear now. Love them!
@Car0liiine the instructor of my breastfeeding class last week said that Nordstrom will alter any regular bra into a nursing bra for you. I'm sure the bra itself will cost a pretty penny at Nordstrom (although probably comparable to Soma) but I think their alterations are pretty reasonable. I know that's a lot to go through to get nursing bras, but just an option!
@LWC1112 The Texas heat is brutal. We had our AC stop working in the summer last year, we ended up paying $300 + to have a guy come out that evening to fix it. Or else it would be me and the animals going to my moms or in laws. I refuse to leave my animals in the heat. If I leave, they leave.
I hope they get your AC fixed soon!
