@skelly1990 I was given one at the hospital that I use on days where I hurt more. But normally I wear something called a C-Panty that I bought of Amazon. Wearing the compression makes a world of a difference for me.
34 Mother of 4 year old and 2 Labs. Happily Married to my Hubs of 6 years.
So excited about my milk supply. In the last week I've been able to freeze 12oz and have another 5 in the fridge! 12 days in and our success so far is making me so happy! Too bad I didn't figure this all out 2 kids ago....
9 days PP and yesterday/today my bleeding has picked up and the pelvic floor ache is intense. Anyone else had an increase in bleeding and discomfort? I feel panicked like I'm going backwards!
@jacmkelley I remember with DD that the bleeding would lighten up some and then go back to being heavy a few times before it was completely done. Then a week after I stopped bleeding from baby, I got my first period. That also happened to be right at my 6 weeks PP check up.

That happened to me after having my 2nd. It was because I was doing too much. This time around it picked up a little when my help left and I started doing more of my usual stuff and walking, but I'm still trying to take it easy, so it still hasn't been too heavy.
1 day PP! I've only read the last few pages so forgive me if this has already been discussed. I had 2 2nd degree tears and am very very swollen. Holy cow it's sore down there! It hurts to sit and when I stand there's so much pressure and soreness. I'm using Dermaplast and ice but any other suggestions? How long does this soreness last? Thanks ladies!
I had third degree tears and 21 stitches with DS. I was sore for at least 3 weeks so hopefully you will be feeling better earlier than that! Dermaplast (they sell it at Walgreens if you run out), ice, witch hazel like others have said. Try not to be on your feet too much, that always made it worse for me too. And keep taking your pain meds and stool softeners. Good luck!
I'm late to joining this thread, but I just had to chime in about the baby blues. When DD was born Willy Wonka was on tv a lot for some reason and I swear it made me cry every single time I watched it. So freakin weird!
@Curls919 I know I'm late to the game, but even with my c-section my OB said it's ok to hold DD if I need to. She says it's best of DH picks her up and hands her to me, but I can build her for sure.
So I had read that breastfeeding makes you happy and sleepy, but I didn't get it! Baby doesn't even have to finish one breast and my eyes are drooping. By the time she's on the 2nd boob, it is such a struggle to stay awake!
Married May 2014 DD born August 2016 Baby #2 due December 2017
@cait5413 that happened to me the first week or so. My husband just asked last night if nursing was still making me tired. Thankfully that has passed and it's only a struggle to stay awake in the middle of the night!
I woke up this morning to my bra and bed soaking wet... Levi slept 6.5 hours last night! Yay for sleep but not good for my boobs! Oh they hurt so bad, and not pumping all night is not a good thing. I didn't expect him to sleep all night though, so I didn't set an alarm. Guess maybe I should start in case he does this more. Now I need to find the time to wash some laundry too. For whatever reason laundry is the chore I can seem to get son with the baby
@Stephanie7693 Yes!!! Laundry sucks!!!! Idk if it's pampers diapers or if it's my son lol but he has peed all over his outfits the past 24 hours. This morning he was trying to poop lol and spit up all over the bed! I'm so over the laundry.
And yes to nursing! I am so sleepy sometimes when I nurse! Especially at night. It's the absolute hardest. I'm exhausted as it is and then waking up to nurse seems so easy that it's exhausting lol. But it does make me happy!
STMs - anyone else who didn't BF first time have you noticed how different the poop situation is? I mean this baby is pooping constantly! DD didn't do that but Dr said its because she was bottle fed.
@jacmkelley yes the poop! It's so different with a breast baby! But it doesn't smell nearly as bad so far, so that a plus lol. Have you tried pointing baby's penis down when you put his diapers on? It makes a huge difference in how often they pee out of diapers. Though there wasn't much we could do about it until the circ healed and cord fell off. And I meant to say I can't seem to get laundry done with baby. I've done 2 loads in 13 days. We're hurting for clean clothes and beds lol. Maybe today I'll finish the load I started this morning
Making an appt. w PCP next week due to this unexplained hand-ache! It's always after I wake up first thing in the morning or after a long nap! My fingers lock briefly too. I can't be seen for another 3 weeks for my 6-week pp check up (technically it's going to be like my 10-week pp check up) so PCP it is unless OB says otherwise...
I cannot even type for a long time or the ache becomes all too unbearable. Ugh!!

Stuck in box
Sounds like carpal tunnel wrist braces should help some, but hopefully it will go away soon. Some people just develope it during pregnancy. I was one of those lucky ones who kept it after pregnancy

Did you have an epidural? They told me during the procedure of the epidural that a non stop headache is a side effect...
My stitches just keep seeping blood. I had them pull the day after my section and It has just been a challenge. I went into the ER two nights ago (1 week post section) and they put in new stitches, which was really painful. They thought that might stop the seeping, but no luck. Now I am scheduled to see my OB Monday and I am basically on bedrest until then which is so frustrating.
The recovery nurses had been badgering me to get up and walk more while I was at the hospital, even though I was walking back from NICU most visits. So I took a walk with the baby this week and went with my spouse to target. Now the oncall nurse is telling me I am not supposed to walk or stand for 8 weeks (as standard practice)!? I am just so confused. How much movement are others being told to get post c-section? I will of course ask my OB but I am just curious.
@Stephanie7693 I didn't think of it as I thought carpal tunnel was wrist only pain but now that I read up on it, it can cause hand pain. My hands don't get numb but they def are painful to even form fists! Idk why it's more prevalent in the morning after I wake up but I hope to get to the bottom of this soon.
@jacmkelley I meant hand-aches (made up word lol). I did get an epidural but no headaches!
@AliKay20 the carpal tunnel was in my wrist and thumb on one hand. At one point I couldn't even hold a cookie sheet. There isn't much the doc can do aside from the wrist guard or surgery.
@liljabee I had my c-section at almost 11pm last Friday and they had me up and moving Saturday afternoon. By up and moving, it was to the chair in our room and the bathroom as well as walking around the room. I think they would have had me moving earlier but I had a blood transfusion late Friday and early Saturday morning. I also walked around the halls a bit that Sunday too. Currently, I've been walking slowly around the neighborhood when I can.
11 days pp and my nipple have just start to hurt in the last couple days. I think using the shields gas helped a lot as far as pain and chapping, but still, they only do so much. They just hurt all the time, even just touching my bra. I've been using cream and I'm hoping things will start feeling better soon.
Try lily padz reusable breast pads! They were a life saver with my older DD and are helping immensely this time also. They're silicone so they don't stick to you and you won't stick to your bra! So much better in my opinion
@AliKay20 I have the same issue the last week or two with my hands and wrists. I wake up in the middle of the night with them clenched really hard. My midwife said it is pregnancy related and hopefully will eventually go away. The only thing she could suggest was wrapping my wrists at night so I don't clench them and make them sore. Pregnancy is weird...

I'm up feeding my little guy, and holy cow these post partum contractions are no joke this time around!! I knew they got worse with each baby, but these are crazy! How long did this last for second (or more) time moms?

Mine only lasted a few days. They stopped by 5 days pp
@liljabee 8 weeks???? That's insane unless you have a complication. I was swimming 5 weeks after my first section, with permission of course, but still. With both of my sections they got me up and moving within 12 hours or so. And every doctor and nurse has told me to move as much as I can tolerate to help prevent stiffness, and it's true, the more I move the better I feel. Good luck with the bleeding, I hope you get it resolved asap!
@liljabee - with dd1 the nurses had me up and walking as soon as the spinal wore off. My OB also gave me the okay to get back on a spin bike 2 weeks after my csection. Although, I did not have any external stitches. I had internal stitches but the outer layer was glued shut.
Omg and I totally forgot about the itchiness!!! Last time it was just my back but this time it started in my face and had moved down my whole body. I didn't know this was a thing last time and didn't ask for any relief, and in turn it looked like my back was attacked by a mountain lion. This time I knew to ask for benadryl a soon as it started - thank goodness!
@liljabee with DD they had me up and moving as soon as the epi wore off. They also did internal stitches and skin glue on the outside. This time they said they're going to do either dissolving staples or stitches. I'm a bit hesitant but 8 weeks sounds insane and would be really hard to do. Hopefully your OB has answers for you Monday and you won't have to be down that long.
@Stephanie7693 glad to hear it gets better! In the hospital I really thought I was going to fall asleep feeding her every time and since I am only getting about an hour of sleep at a time now that we're home, it hasn't gotten much better yet!
@liljabee 8 weeks? That is definitely not what they told me. They encouraged walking, just not stairs, and no driving for at least 2 weeks. I did have some trouble last night trying to get out of bed too fast / in an awkward way to try to get to Caia and feed her-- felt like I was going to rip a stitch. Just a reminder to myself to be more careful.
I'm also trying to figure out if I should buy some sort of compression undies or if just wearing tight yoga pants or even just tighter undies might help. My deflated tummy feels like it would benefit from being lifted up and held in a little snugger.

Anyone have night duty schedules that worked for you and your partner?!
I told DH to get the 12 AM and 7 AM (since he will be going back to work this coming week). I found baby agitated at 4 AM so I thought, "great. Diaper and feeding time!" But she wasn't really eating and instead, spit up what looked to be her last feeding!
Well this morning, I got up at 7 even though DH was supposed to nurse her because I needed to pump anyway. I fed her directly then pumped some - DH went back to sleep.
I went to bed at 8 AM and woke up at 12 PM!!! Seriously this keeps happening and I feel so unproductive.
Any tips/advice on splitting night duty appreciated! I'll need to go back to work too in about 6 wks and we hope to get some decent sleep so we can both be productive during the day (& I mean not just half the day- starting my day at noon lol).
@AliKay20 sorry you're having a rough time! With DD around week 4 we would keep her awake if possible before we wanted to go to bed. This helped her sleep pattern a little more than the sleeping non stop and waking up at night and not sleeping for longer periods. Idk if maybe you can work on adjusting her schedule a little so you can rest more at night.
Ok ladies. Having a panic attack a little bit. The week I had this LO we were discharged on Wednesday and I was back at the hospital on Friday overnight due to a high fever. This past Monday DS had some oozing from his circumcision so I took him to his pediatrician and she opted I take him to the children's hospital to make sure they didn't think it needed anything. He was fine. And so was I after my stay - they decided breast engorgement. I seriously stayed overnight at the hospital again for breast engorgement. Don't get me started.
So as you read this just know I'm not in a hurry to go to ER or anything just yet and that's why.
But since about Wednesday of this week I have been aching so badly like my innards are going to fall out of my vagina. I'm in a ton of discomfort. I called the Dr office yesterday and the nurse asked some questions but didn't seem to concerned. She said I may be doing too much. Well today after doing a few easy things around the house I showered and couldn't stand in the shower without feeling that ache/pain down there and had to sit down. And then afterwards I got up off the bed because DS pooped all over DH lol and I was laughing and feeling pain down there and also in my cramp area. I am wondering if any of you have had this or have this. I plan to tough it out until Monday as I have no fever etc... (And shit that can just be from my boobs being to full apparently lol) and get into my Dr. But I'm so freaked out that something isn't healing right or I have an issue. I had a family friend tell me her friend had that feeing of everything falling out and then she had to have reconstructive surgery. Sooo anything a little less depressing and scary would be great.
Thank you so much ladies for the suggestions for perineum pain!! I'm doing all of your suggestions and they are definitely helping. Still sore, but getting better!
So I haven't done any pumping yet, but do most of you feed baby and then pump, every feeding? Or pump 3-4x a day. Also if you split schedules between you and husband, if it's your hubby then you rest and he uses the milk you pumped. Kudos to all of us getting up and feeding our babies! I'm so exhausted and every day need a nap to keep up....

Right now I only pump at the 4/5am feeding after feeding baby, and then again at the next feeding around 8 or 9. It's when I go the longest between feedings and still feel full after nursing. Baby is ebf right now, so the pumped milk is just going in the freezer. When he's 3 or 4 weeks old we will start doing one bottle a day and I'll pump then too.
@Edsilva14 We have had a problem with baby not putting on weight because of a bad latch, so now we alternate pumping/feeding with a bottle and breastfeeding every two hours. Each time that DH gives a bottle, I pump another bottle. It isn't what we planned and it is definitely not ideal, but that's where we are.
@AliKay20 I'm also curious as to what nighttime schedules work for other families. Right now since DH has to go back to work soon, I try to do everything I can at night and only wake up DH if I'm frustrated or need help. It's exhausting and totally not sustainable (especially when I go back to work in October) so I'd love to hear about other people's routines!
@squishy0511 The hospital gave me a Sitz bath when I left. Did you get one before you left?
With our first, our nighttime routine was that DH would get baby up when he started crying, and would change him for me while I was getting myself ready (bathroom, get water, whatever I needed). I would feed baby (EBF), and my DH would go back to sleep. We thought this was a good compromise for us bc my husband can fall asleep in about .5 seconds, and I was usually awake for at least 30 mins feeding at first. LO has also always been a great sleeper, so we were only doing this a few times a night. I would also stay up later than DH bc it always seemed like LO would wake up around 11, and it was easier for me to just wait to go to bed until after that. So I'd do everything with the first feeding, which usually meant DH would get about 4 hours of sleep before having to get up for the first time.
Luckily, LO was pretty much sleeping through the night by the time I went back to work, so that really helped.
We're hoping this one will also be a good sleeper...
