So, for over a week now my baby had been consistently waking up at 3am and then 7am for the day. She was doing a 7 hour stretch at night. The past couple days she has slowly been adding more and more nighttime feedings. Tonight has been every 3 hours! Any ideas as to why? I got really used to that 7 hour stretch. She is almost 8 weeks old.
Anyone else have a kid that barely poohs? By barely I mean once a week!!! I had read online that with breastfed babies, it isn't totally abnormal but after talking to a couple other moms with babies in the same range I started to get concerned! She doesn't seem to meet any of the constipated symptoms but it was still worrisome. She doesn't vomit/spit up largely after meals. After today's "emergency" appointment with her pediatrician he assured me there isn't anything to worry about and she's just fine. He said I can try the prune juice/water combo to see if we can get anything out but kinda acted like I'd be wasting my time and efforts. I'm just to confused! I understand every baby is different but 5-7 days with no pooh seems a little extreme!!
Hi there, I'm from the June 2016 group but my LO also rarely poops. Pediatrician said it's normal. To be honest I'm usually more in fear of her having a huge blowout at an inopportune time! She will go over a week, sometimes 10 or 11 days. When she does go it's usually an explosion but sometimes it's very little. So strange! It is nice to not have many poopy diapers : )
I noticed these spells a week or so after we brought her home. She has strange and repetitive mouth movements, her eyes cross and she has repetitive arm movements. Her EEG came back fine and they're scheduling a MRI but after the doctor saw the video we took of one of the episodes she thinks it's neonatal seizures. I knew something was wrong and our pediatrician initially thought it was acid reflux. The neurologist said she may grow out of it. I can't stop crying.
Thinking of you and your family, @Heathereaddy so glad they were able to diagnose it and start treatment. Even better that she can grow out of it! I know it's tough in the meantime, so I'm sending you strength and positive vibes!
@Heathereaddy thinking of you and sending positive vibes your way! Good job keeping track and advocating for your LO! Hopefully the treatment helps and she can grow out of them!
@Heathereaddy thinking of you and your family! I'm glad you kept advocating for your little girl when something didn't seem right to you. Hopefully it's something she will grow out of and in the meantime it's treatable. Stay positive Mama!
I'm so sorry, @Heathereaddy! Rightfully so, you're a mess. I agree with catching and working toward treatment early. Good for you for being proactive and not believing the reflux suggestion!! I'll definitely keep you in my T&P!!
@Lizbeth86 Ahh!! Yep that's what we get too - a blowout when it happens!! Crazy! Well glad to know I'm not alone. Her pediatrician was also super reassuring about the whole thing.
@Heathereaddy I'm so sorry, but glad they caught it. They sound like absence seizures. I've had them since I was born as well. Mine don't always show up on an EEG either. It's hit or miss depending on electrical strength/peak, how long they last etc. I have been on meds, but have never stopped them completely. As I've gotten older, it's basically like spacing out. If I am talking, I will stop mid word. If I am using my hands I will continue to do that motion, other wise I just move them. I also have the mouth movements. They only last for a few seconds normally. And unless someone says something about what was I saying/points out I had a seizure, I usually don't know unless it was a particularly long one. In sorry this isn't more happy or helpful. Just some insight from someone who grew up similar. Feel free to message me. Your in my t&ps and hoping the bet for you and LO
@Heathereaddy Thinking of you and your LO. I get the anxiety of not having baby at 100% but it's something that you'll deal with and find a way to work with it.
Thanks everyone. I just feel like it's always something to worry about. I'm already an anxious person and being a new mommy is already so hard that I just don't know how to deal with yet another thing. I don't want my baby to have to deal with this. My heart breaks for her.
@Heathereaddy. I'm sorry you have the extra anxiety and I hope your daughter outgrows the seizures! Great job advocating for your daughter and recognizing when something isn't right. Like @joberkiser I have absence seizures and although everyone with a seizure disorder has a different experience they aren't painful or uncomfortable for me and now that I know how to take care of myself (I was diagnosed at 21) there is little impact on my day to day life. Lots of hugs!
@Heathereaddy oh no! I remember you mentioning that early on. I am glad you didn't give up on it. You guys are in my thoughts! Glad your LO has such a strong mama!
Anyone having issues with dizziness or feeling lightheaded pp? It mostly happens when I'm looking down. Talked with my doc last week and she thought my blood pressure was getting too low so she took me off the meds that helped with my previous high blood pressure issue. No change. I'll call again this week but I was wondering if anybody had these issues.

This has happened to me off and on. I was attributing it to my swelling going down. I know my body is definitely not 100%. I was going to mention it at my 6 week PP visit on the 6th.
@austinjl This happened to me but I think it was just the sleep deprivation. I ended up sleeping a good six hours while my husband and his mom watched her the next day and felt better.
Talking about sleep, how is everyone's sleep going? We're four weeks in and I've gotten a few nights where she has a 4-5 hour stretch but for the most part I'm lucky if I get 3 hour stretches. I know all the books say she should sleep longer stretches by 8 weeks. Is any one finding that to be true or am I getting my hopes up?
@austinjl I've been getting the dizzy/ lightheadedness and sometimes waves of nausea. The only thing I can think of is that I lost a lot of blood during delivery and I'm supposed to be on iron supplements but I only take them sporadically when I remember.
@babycakesday We're 9 weeks today and for the last 2 weeks or so he's been sleeping between 4 and 7 hours straight. I'll put him down for the night in the pack and play and his first stretch is always the longest. He wakes up around 4 or 5, nurses, and goes back down for usually a max of 2-3 hours, often less.
It gets better! Elijah is 9 weeks and sleep has been so much better the past week or so. He sleeps 5, 6, sometimes even 7 hours, eats, then sleeps another 3 or 4. I read that when baby reaches 11 pounds or so they don't need to wake up so often to eat. Sometimes he'll stir a little during the long stretch but usually puts himself back to sleep. If he keeps crying and can't go back down then he's hungry. In the meantime rest when you can and don't worry about housework! Good luck @babycakesday
My boy is averaging about 3 hours at night at 7 weeks, sometimes less, sometimes more. I think a big reason is we're still working through breastfeeding issues, especially since his lip & tongue tie release. So i don't think he's eating as much as he should and as well during the day. That and he was also 2.5 weeks early. This is my theory for now, we'll see if sleep gets better as BF improves. I have my money on it
My LO will be 8 weeks tomorrow omg that feels unreal!! Anyway the first stretch she sleeps 4- 6 hours, she eats then goes right back to sleep and wakes up about every 2 hours.
Man, I wish LO slept even a straight 4 hours....I started putting rice cereal in his formula in hopes that he will stay fuller longer. Started it during the day today and hoping it will work for the night time! LoL, even though I'm up every 2 to 3 hours, I still manage to dream but I still can't remember about what You ladies are lucky to have your LO sleeping for good time! Hope I get that in a few weeks!
I'm at 5 weeks today and he's still sleeping about 3-4 but there has been a few times where he's slept longer. I'm just used to it by now that it doesn't really bother me. When I sleep longer than 4 hours I feel tired.
Q is 8 weeks and has a 7 hour stretch at night. He dropped his middle of the night feeding around 7 weeks, maybe a few days earlier. I feed him at 1030 and don't wake him up to feed at night. He used to wake up at 330 but it got later and later each day and he wakes himself up at 630 now. Hopefully you ladies start getting sleep! It's a game changer

How does everyone else handle the lack of sleep?
