Re: Weekly Randoms 6/6

  • Got my refund check from the birth center today... You know, since I never got to have the baby there. It's a shame I used my HSA to pay and that I have to put it all back. Part of me wants to go spend this all.

we have the BerryBest brush and like it so far for sparse newborn hair. It's a wooden brush with goat hair bristles I think - got it on Amazon.

We just use a soft bristle brush.

    Like this one:

Haha! Harper's got those luxurious locks that don't need brushing, Holly's sparse ginger hair needs all the help it can get!

So...update. Sorry, I just realized this and my original post should've probably been in the breastfeeding section but oh well. LC came over, she couldn't figure out what the heck the problem was with DD's transferring of milk. She seemed like she was searching hard for an answer so she told me she has a super duper minor tongue tie but told me it was so hard for her to catch that she has a hard time trusting that that's the culprit. She basically handed me a nipple shield since my supply is abundant and told me I likely won't ever be able to exclusively breastfeed DD and to keep leisurely putting her to the breast and pumping and feeding her with a bottle. We saw DD's pediatrician who is a breastfeeding guru and she said DD had a rough start and encouraged me to try the nipple shield and try some feeds with just straight nipple and told me with persistence DD should go back to the breast, at least for most feedings, just fine. We did determine though that DD's yeast rash on her bottom is gone, but has been replaced by an upset butt due to a milk protein intolerance (she's had other symptoms as well), so now I get to cut out dairy. Fun times! Then DH came home and told me that his ship is going overseas next year a few months after he gets home from deployment and since I have health issues that keep me from going overseas, we will have to spend his last 18 months of this billet apart while he moves overseas with the ship and DD and I stay in the states wherever we choose to reside. That will mean that out of his 3 year billet, we will be spending 26 months apart..Really wondering when life is going to turn around for us; now would be nice.

Im a ray of sunshine :)

The hospital gave me a brush both times. It still works great for my toddler.
Kind of looks like the scalp scrubbie brand.

Yesterday, DH made an off-hand comment about how I have it easy during the day while taking care of the baby. It bothered me, but I just let it go.

This afternoon, I went to the grocery store while DH stayed with DS. Apparently, he was a complete turd and cried the whole time I was gone. I could tell DH was overwhelmed when I got home. He said, "I couldn't do anything! I tried to do a load of laundry, and I was going to vacuum, but he wouldn't let me."

Maybe I should save this for FFFC, but I'm secretly glad that DH got a little taste of what it's really like to deal with a fussy baby by himself.
I love this so much!  That is great.

We have a toddler and lap nap wanting baby, I SAHM all day and sometimes wonder what it would be like if DH took a few hours of having both (I would just sleep, no shopping, just sleeping for the entire time, but shopping sounds good too - haven't attempted that yet with my two in tow).

@ncm0328 im sure this will sound super creepy, but sometimes I wish we lived in the same place so I could hug you and then give you a beer or something. It definitely seems like you have more than your share of suckfests.
Thanks! I wanted to drown myself in beer last night, then cried because I couldn't and then cried more because even if I could, my yeast factory in my burning rings of fire, aka my breasts, likely wouldn't appreciate the added yeast from beer. After some good cries I feel a lot better today. Life is good, things could always be much worse and we are very blessed. Thanks for allowing me to use y'all as a group therapy session!

Found out in the last 2 days, DS likes swaddling and his RnP. He hated it when he first came home. Now, I swaddle for naps and night time, little guy sleeps so well and doesn't startle himself awake! Babies are so weird.

ETA: MAM pacis are the bomb!!
I wish mine liked swaddling. I try and try and he's a mover. So he scares the crap out of himself all the time.
  • Absolutely hate thunderstorms right now. Corbin fell asleep finally and then it thundered really loudly. Now he's up again and refuses to go back down for a nap. Today is going to be a very long day.

We hired a babysitter, who, if things work out, may become our nanny when I go back to work. I just bought a nanny cam so I can see what's going on when I'm not home. More so for my peace of mind.

    1. The Logi Circle is amazing. The Best Buy sales guy showed it to me on his phone before I bought it. If you're thinking about a nanny cam/baby monitor look into this one. It can be a surveillance camera or monitor because the camera detaches from it's base and can be moved anywhere. It records audio and video.

    2. Check the laws on audio recordings in your state. No state protects against video recordings in common areas, but audio recordings fall under wiretapping laws in some states. For instance, FL requires two-party consent for audio recordings.

He requires some help to fall asleep (sometimes arms out then quickly wrap when he's sleepy) but once we're there. It's good. He use to fling his arms up and scare himself awake. But the swaddle is great! Finally got some use out of my Halo sleep sacks and swaddle.

I so wish there were no risks to newborns sleeping on their tummies. I know LO would be all about some sleeping on his belly at night. After failed attempts at getting him down for a nap, he fell asleep on my chest and I put him down in the pnp in the same position while I stayed right there, monitored him and folded laundry and I could tell he was just so comfy. Tummy sleeping will be his jam at night once he can roll over himself. Sigh.

This. LO is asleep on his tummy right now on his mat on the floor while I sit right next to him and watch him. After fussing for an hour it is literally the only way he would go to sleep. This isn't the first time either... He loves sleeping on his stomach.

I left DH with the baby and came back and the baby was on his belly with butt up in the air and I just looked at him and he said "what? He likes it!"

I can't remember which board people were discussing this, but I normally sleep holding an extra pillow but I can no longer do that because I wake up in a panic thinking it is a lifeless baby.

I used to sleep holding a pillow but I can't either cuz Ezra is where my pillow should be! Makes for a less comfortable night
  • Am I being selfish for not wanting my husband to go to a wedding on the other side of the country when LO is 7 weeks? He has to leave on Friday because of the air travel to be there on time Saturday. Then he wouldn't come back until Monday night because of a brief work trip. He's also gone for work 3 days this week.

The wedding basically means I'll be going two weeks by myself with no weekend break to have some time to myself or help. He said if it were my friend we'd make it work. I told him how would I be able to leave for three days for a wedding when our daughter is breastfed? She doesn't have her shots, so I wouldn't bring her on the plane either. So no, husband. If it were my friend, I couldn't go either. It's hard enough building a stash for an occasional bottle and going back to work.
  • It's been sweltering hot around here this weekend We put dinner on the grill so our back door was open making it warm inside too. I put some of my breast milk in an icecube tray, added a crafting Popsicle stick and DH rubbed it on LOs lips when she got warm. She loved it!

  • Ugh....my baby slept.from 1045-315. This is amazing...except I only slept from 230-315. Wtf insomnia...shouldn't my sheer exhaustion have knocked me out??

Bonus: im not likely to sleep bc just as I was putting him back to bed he erupted in this epic geyser of formula that came out both nostrils as well as his mouth. He cried for 5 seconds when I used the nose sucker to make sure there was nothing left in his nose and promptly fell asleep again. But I'm going to be up for the rest of the night making sure he's breathing :/

Anyone else still waiting for about 3 or 4 baby announcements for May? I feel a little silly, but I just love seeing them and I know there are a few missing!
  • Question for those of you using the rock n play: do you let your LOs sleep in them all night or just for daytime naps? My LO has been in his crib at night since day 1 but lately has not been wanting to be put down in there but loves the rock n play. Am I allowed to put him in there to sleep or is that a bad idea?

used the nosefrieda for the first time today. Did one nostril, pulled it away and she straight up laughed at it. Did the other nostril, more laughs. Glad she finds it so hilarious!
