Is it weird that I miss being in the hospital? I've been in a weird funk/depression since coming home. I missed my hubby and pets tons when I was there and the food sucked and it was boring and I got poked by needles all the time. I'm not back at work so I basically lie around reading and sleeping, which is what I did there. What the heck is wrong with me? Why would I miss being somewhere so awful?
@Megan324 I always said I wouldn't get a mini van, and I got one and I LOVE it. I can't imagine anything else. Once the kids are all out of car seats, we may make the move to a pilot, but I'd be hard pressed to get rid of my notorious V.A.N. anytime soon.
My uncle is running a one hundred mile race this weekend... They allow you 31 hrs to complete it, but he's hoping to do it in 22. Dafuq? That's crazy to me. I don't think I've ever spent 22-31 hours doing ANYTHING. He's a beast.
I'm having such a hard time picking a name... We may walk into the hospital with 3 options, which has never happened before.
Wife to A; Mama to C (2009), N (2011), H (2014) & baby F due 09/16/16
@themaritimemama same here on the name. I refuse to decide at the hospital. We've narrowed it down to 4. I love all 4, and DH recently said they're all kind of "meh" now. Ugggh. I'll give it a few weeks and hopefully we'll pick one from the 4 and not start over.
We decided in the hospital with our son. It was totally fine and kind of nice to see him before we named him. We may have driven the birth certificate lady a little crazy though! Haha. This time, I am pretty set on a name, but DH would rather wait.
@KristinUM12 UGH employers SUUUUCK! I feel your pain girl, I'm going through the same thing. I hope your boss gets over whatever is up their ass and lets you do what you need. I have the same problem- I want to work remotely part-time for a bit after the baby comes, but our small staff all tends to flake the hell out and have everything going on at once so that I'm the only one in the office most of the time. So basically, they'll have to actually show up to work and stay at their desks like they're supposed to, heaven forbid!
@mom2adoodle I was able to get mine to eat his food eventually when he was sick by mixing it in with the chicken and rice, starting with just a teeny tiny bit, and I'd even add chicken broth to it so it was less crunchy. That did the trick, and we had to adjust the ratio of his food to that of the chicken and rice over the course of a week or two. When he went back to regular food I still put a little of the broth in it to help. As far as the toys- I'll be having the same struggle. My dog thinks every single thing we bring home is for him. Blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, you name it. I just have to try to keep his toys in his area and keep the baby away from them, and vice a versa. He generally keeps his toys in the front room anyway, so I'm hoping that won't be a problem. I just have to be more careful with the baby's things.
Ugh, my son was hysterical at daycare drop-off, and he's usually fine. I mean, it's sweet, he wanted mama but I had to go to work. Damn you daycare worker for letting him wave to me out the window with big tear-filled eyes.. almost impossible to pull out and head to work. Thank goodness for a 3 day weekend!!
@Sbrown721 I'm starting to think the dog and baby will essentially share toys LOL. I'm not sure how to create barriers because as it is our entire house is full of random toys everywhere. Some people baby gate but I'm hesitant to seclude her from anything baby related. I don't want her to resent the baby or his presence. Teaching her (or the baby) whose is what doesn't sound probable either. I just have to stop her from destroying them! I have no idea how she will react with the new baby and his stuff so here's to hoping it's no biggie and life will work itself out!
My dogs love to destroy toys and steal things so letting them share isn't really an option. We have been working with a trainer for 2 months now. What they told us to do was establish bounties now, before the baby is born so that they would not associate the changes with the baby. So we have a baby gates that gates off the babies room, baby bathroom and office and they are only allowed in there by invitation. We also are working on only allowing the dogs on the couch or bed when invited. Truthfully my dogs are pretty crazy and hyper so I didn't think it was possible but they seem to be getting it.
Me: 32 DH: 31
TTC #2 since January 2018
Baby #1 DD Born 8/25/2016 BFP: 8/11/18 Due: 4/26/18
I can't remember if the last time I pooped was Sunday or Monday.. but I'm getting really cranky about it. Took some softeners last night and even drank some metamucil this morning. Going to have a cup of coffee and hope that's the final push to get things moving. I just feel so bloated and weighted down. Come on body - shape up!
Dogs with baby toys... I thought we'd have a really hard time with getting our Jack Russell to adjust to not all toys being his, but he really surprised us. Not saying that he doesn't sneak the occasional toy, usually to seek attention rather than chew it, but it's no where the problem I had anticipated. He definitely understands the concept of which toys are his and which are DD's. So he's out around her toys all day long. We do shut him out of her room unless we are in it because of he has no qualms about chewing up pacifiers or hairbrush (even though he knows it's bad).
@AnnaS930 Good luck with the pooping situation. My last constipation episode was so horrible that I don't wish anything like that on anyone ever.
My random(s)... I had my 24 week appointment yesterday. Gained 7 lbs in the last 4 weeks. I'm not happy, but also not surprised. I feel like this was the stretch that I did most of my gaining last time. I was hoping to do better controlling myself with food this time, and clearly I haven't done that. And on that note, my Five Guys does not have shakes. DH made a second stop last night to get me one from Steak n Shake. His idea... he's the best (they are across the road from each other, so I didn't argue).
Backtracking to my appt, I saw the NP yesterday and she measured my fundal height at 30 weeks. That did surprise me. I know I'm feeling baby girl kick really high up, but I've never measured big before (not even last appt). She said it could just be LO's position, and we would keep an eye on it. I'm not super worried, but I'm glad I'll see my OB at the next appointment.
Also... I had this dream last night that DD was in bed with my husband and me, and that I was incredibly uncomfortable. I wake up and our dog had squeezed himself between me and my Snoogle and was all stretched out next to me.
I wish I would have taken today off work. The email conversation I am having about a project is not what I want to be dealing with on a Friday before a 3-day weekend....
I definitely SHOULD have taken today off. I've been here for 2 hours and I've done exactly 1 minute of work. I already texted my husband saying I'd be home by 4 (which is what I do on days I pick up E from daycare... husband is picking him up so I could technically work until 5, but that's just not gonna happen).
My parents are coming to town today to stay with fiance and I in our 1,000 sq. ft. house for the weekend...I get off of work at 5, but they will be arriving around 3. They haven't seen me since being pregnant (well, my mom saw me at 11 weeks, but I wasn't showing). Fiance is thinking they are most definitely going to "ream his ass" for this pregnancy. I dk. They seem very excited about it, but he may get a dramatic "how could you do this before marriage?" Catholic sort of lecture before I get home. We'll see!
@camichael84 -- I gained 7 pounds in the last 4 weeks too. Last pregnancy, there was one time I gained that in 1 or 2 weeks, so I'll take it. Granted, we have been traveling and so I know my eating could be better, but I'm just not sweating it. In the end, I'll gain what I gain. I packed on so much water weight at the end last time, that I'm just planning on it again. And, if it doesn't happen, then bonus! Thankfully, my OB is taking the same approach as I am.
Oh man, after a long week I finally log back in and there are 299 randoms to read! (I read them all of course!)
I'm glad to hear everyone is getting better/ getting explanations who needed them!
@mom2adoodle my 11 y.o. pitbull never eats when she has a cold or is mad at us (like, when we trim her nails lol). It's good that your pup is eating something!
Also, my pup was the first to know I was pregnant for sure. She has always sniffed both DH and my breath every day (DH calls it the daily check-up), and one day after the breath sniff she started cuddling up with me instead of DH. That was a huge sacrifice for her because I am the most fidgety person ever! We adopted her as an adult and while she's spayed now she has had a litter of puppies before, so maybe that's got something to do with her hyper awareness? We always joke that she's the only experienced parent in the house!
@Themaritimemama I learned to drive in a minivan and I have loved them ever since! They fit all of your people and all of their things away from the weather!
@camichael84 and @Sporty1216 I am so glad I'm not the only one. I gained 8 lbs in 4 weeks at my 24 week appointment. I'm really hoping I can gain less than that before my next appointment at 28 weeks, but I'm not holding onto that hope. Especially since we are going on vacation next week, and I have zero plans to watch what I eat. Eating is one of the few things that brings me supreme joy during pregnancy.
@Sporty1216 My OB also takes a relaxed approach that I appreciate. I do hope I can taper off the weight gain some in the upcoming weeks because I gained a ton of water weight in the last weeks of pregnancy last time as well. But ultimately, you are right, I will gain what I gain. As long as baby girl is growing and my OB is okay with it, I'm not going to sweat it.
@Cassloumy - that's so cool that your dog was reacting as soon as she realized something was different about you! Fred and I are completely tight, but I'm pretty sure he's still 100% oblivious to the fact that he's getting a baby. He'd be a hell of a lot more excited all the time if he knew - he LOOOOOOOVVVVEEESSS babies!
Other dog-related ramblings ahead not really directed to any one person.... As far as toys - I'm pretty sure Fred will claim some baby toys as his own, and leave some other ones. He's pretty particular about what he likes to play with, nothing too heavy, nothing too hard, nothing metallic, and he isn't a destroyer. More of a cuddler and nibbler on his toys. He LOVES squeaker toys, though, so I think we will avoid buying anything that squeaks for the baby since Fred will definitely claim those as his own. He also know s the "leave it" (ignore it, it's not yours) command, and we will likely use that often until he learns what is his and what is not.
We also don't intend to block him off from any parts of the house. He really likes to be involved in the happenings around our home and I think that would make him feel too isolated and possibly jealous (do dogs feel jealousy?) if we did that. We want him to associate the baby with positive things, not negative things like isolation. At the same time, I'd never let the baby and the dog be in the same room without an adult around. I wouldn't necessarily block off the baby room, but I'd keep an eye on the dog and make sure he doesn't just wander in there without me. We have a super small and open house, so that shouldn't be a problem for us at all.
Just got out of my ultrasound. Apparently baby WAS measuring small. About 2 weeks behind. Would have been nice if they told me or my OB that.. but I guess it was better because I wasn't worried about it lol but baby boy had a huge growth spurt and is now measuring a few days ahead!
@Megan324- maybe would have been nice to know just to be fully knowledgeable about the growing baby, but would have caused unnecessary worry! Glad he's spurted on you!
@Megan324 - with my first, the 20 week ultrasound was my last. That seems to be pretty normal. With this pregnancy, I will have an ultrasound around 36 weeks to check growth since DS was very large at birth.
I do have fetal echocardiogram in a couple weeks. They say I have a family history of congenital heart defects because my brother had issues that required surgery to fix. I am not too concerned - there is only 1 incidence in my family of a heart defect, it wasn't fatal (he didn't even have surgery until he was an adult), and there is a chance it isn't even genetic.
I believe I'm having a scan at 32 weeks (not scheduled yet) to see if what the tech thought was a placental lake really is one. Doctor isn't concerned whether it is or isn't, but wants to do the scan to get another look - sounds like nothing will be done regardless of outcome but will enjoy getting another look at little man.
Edited to add: Appears large lakes correlate with small for gestational age babies (makes sense.. a lake is an area without transfer between mama and babe), hence the further monitoring. At the 20 week ultrasound little man measured on/a week ahead, so no fears here yet!
We bought a few outfits for baby girl yesterday! I've already bought lots of outfits so when we walked in the store I just told DH I'd look around and only see if anything caught my eye as a take home outfit. We ended up buying lots of cute shirts, pants and ensembles, no take home outfit. They were doing clearance for winter items too, so we picked up a few 3 month sized ones for next winter! I need to stop.
I just have to share that we brought cookies for everyone to our Hypnobirthing class last night. I had a big chocolate chip cookie with a s'more smashed into the top of it. It was amazing and I think I need to go buy another one!
We got the condo!! . Ahhh I can't believe it! Paid a pinch more than I wanted to but totally worth it. Closing in one month, move a month after that, buy a second car (we share a tiny one now), and then two months after that have a baby. Crazy but perfect.

They told me that this was probably my last one until he is almost here

Every pregnancy is so different!!!!
Im a small framed person too so it's super noticeable. Ehh... Owell. I rewarded myself with cookies and cream ice cream!
