@Megan324 I'd have left the house as soon as the wasp got lost. If DH gets home and calls, I'd tell him I'll be roaming the aisles of Target until he sends me a picture of the body lol
This. Except I probably would have called him before I even lost it because I would have been too much of a weenie to spray it myself.

@PSUBecky23 I also signed up for a crop share! I won't get mine til next month so I'll be picking your brain for recipes. Also because I had to talk DH into doing it so I don't want him to think it's a waste of money ha. Where are you getting your veggies from?

    @mamadomino glad everything is good!

@kimmy717 jealous that you have a smoothie king. So delicious! We don't have one nearby and now I want it :(
  • Ahhh the light of day! My sister finally left this morning, so I can have my bed back and stop playing tour guide/chauffeur 24/7. Hoping to stay more caught up again!

My daily random: My almost 18 month old has discovered that riding in the shopping cart is no longer "fun". Now she just screams til I let her down then proceeds to run away.. Eye roll... And once she is out there is definitely no getting her back in. I've never strongly considered a child leash until now haha @AnnaS930 I know your little one is similar in age.. Are you going through this too!?
  • @beachmama14 mine did that for a little while, I just let her scream haha it worked though, she doesn't do it anymore! I was definitely "that mom" though. I got dirty looks but I don't care, if you've had kids, you should understand and if you haven't, well, sorry she's loud?
  • @RedMar this is our first year but we're getting it from a local farm. They also provide recipe ideas. So far I've done sautéed dandelion greens that was a side to grilled chicken and a stir fry with pork, pak choi and broccoli rabe. Tonight I'm doing an arugula pesto. Also have plans to pickled radishes and turnips this weekend.

@beachmama14 I remember that age well. Do you babywear? I was still able to wear mine on my back at that age. If not, I distracted her with food and got my shopping done as quickly as humanly possible.

  • @beachmama14 - The cart is definitely not the happy place that it once was... but we can usually get through a store for the most part. I save certain snacks that he only gets while in the cart and dole them out slowly (those freeze-dried yogurt drops or whatever they are.. my kid is OBSESSED). I also let him hold some of the items that we're buying and that gets me a little extra time. We certainly no longer wander the aisles of stores for fun.. we go in with a map in mind and book it for fear of screaming.

I let mine scream as well. I try to distract her first, but if it doesn't work what else can I do? She's much better now than she was several months ago, but we still have our moments. If DH is with us, sometimes we let her walk around. That usually results in more crying once she has to go back in the cart, but it's usually on our way out, so not as big of a deal.

  • My boss has mentioned it to me before, and mentioned it to our office manager that he's waiting for me to go to him and tell him that I want to work less hours when I return from maternity leave. Except.. I already came back at 34 hours from my last one instead of 40.. and we really can't afford for me to work less hours than that, otherwise I would absolutely be asking. I'm kind of weirded out that he's made this comment to someone else (I'm not at all worried about the security of my job.. just wish he'd realize that I have no choice but to work full time)

My birthday is also National Wine Day?! Good to know (for next year at least!).

One of the best presents I got yesterday was a "Dynatrap". It's pretty much a modern day bug zapper. I love spending evenings outside and was sad that I'd be worried about Mosquitos the whole time. Way to go DH :)
My DH informed me yesterday that it was also National Towel Day.  So you've got that in common as well. ;)

  • @AnnaS930 I don't think it sounds gift grabby because nowhere did you write about gifts or a registry and if people ask just say it's about getting together and celebrating so gifts are not necessary
  • SLou24SLou24 member
@AnnaS930 I think that wording is perfect and conveys exactly what you want-- a chance to celebrate this baby! I don't think it sounds gift grabby at all, especially with the opening "house full of gear" line. You'll probably still get some cute clothes and other stuff since people love buying baby stuff, but you'd probably get those things anyway!
  • Thanks for the Love Its and comments. I sent the wording to my husband, we'll tweak it tonight and get an invite out over FB unless one of us chickens out. I think my group of friends is pretty laid back, so I don't think they'll see too far into it. Should just be a fun weekend-party pre-Fourth festivities!

  • @AnnaS930 Adorable! Not gift-grabby at all especially since you're the one throwing the Baby-Q!

@AnnaS930 - A good friend of mine is a manager at my company and told me that my boss in a meeting told his boss that he wasn't sure I was going to come back after maternity leave. UMM what?!? I told him a million times I plan to come back. So why would he assume otherwise AND tell his boss that.

  • @AnnaS930 - I like the wording.....not at all gift grabby! Sounds like it'll be a great time and definitely family-friendly. :)

It's weird, right? I get that some women don't plan to return, or return in a limited capacity or maybe even make those decisions while on leave. But I am like.. I GUARANTEE I will be back, still at 34 hours, full time.. no need to be guessing when I'm going to tell you I'll be limiting my hours... I won't.

  • I think I made a mistake. I wore an underwire bra for the first time since about 10 weeks or so (I'm 25 now). Don't get me wrong, my boobs look awesome today. (Non-underwires are completely unflattering for someone who's boob cup flowith over....but they're so comfy!) But I question if I'll make it out of the parking lot this afternoon with my bra on....  :#

@camichael84 have you tried suckers? I know I'm a terrible mother, but dum dums have saved my life so many times while in the store. My SIL taught me this trick and I never looked back.

ETA: This is the only candy we ever keep in the house, btw. We so rarely give her sweets that I've decided I'm okay with the occasional tiny sucker if it buys me time and sanity.

@ThscaryI CAN MAIL YOU SOME!!!! ... i cant guarantee the freshness or consistency but hey! lol. I will pour a little out for you every time i get one...
  • Argh, the not coming back assumptions are so annoying! My client / the guy who controls my funding makes comments like that. I let him know I'll be out after mid sept (w a scheduled CS) and he implied I might not even be working then, because it gets hot in the summer. What?? Also, we have a mortgage and live in a super expensive urban area!  That's the worst that he said something to your boss's boss.

To be fair, I know women who didn't come back after maternity leave or who took a year off or whatever. But no need to be so presumptive.

@UnwritteN12 Taking my underwire off is one of the best parts of my day!
  • Hey everyone. I haven't been posting much over the last couple days but I have been lurking.  Happy belated birthday @RedMar !

My 1 1/2 year old still tolerates the cart most of the time, but when he wants out he let's us know.  We can usually keep him content with food and toys.

@AnnaS930 - If I were to get an invite like that, I would be confused as to whether or not I should get a gift and ultimately end up bringing something small. It doesn't sound gift grabby, but the mention of celebrating the baby without explicitly saying "no gifts" leaves ambiguity IMO.  If we were end up doing a bbq later this summer, I probably wouldn't even mention anything on the invite about celebrating baby #2. I would casually mention how it is nice hosting before baby comes, but not much else. I guess it depends on how much of a celebration you want this to be for the baby versus just a get together.

  • @AnnaS930 I am on the same page with @marajay6.  If an invite doesn't specifically say, "no gifts, please," then I always err on the side of bringing something, just in case!  That said, I definitely don't think celebrating baby or your invitation wording are gift-grabby at all.  Maybe just not 100% clear that gifts aren't expected.  ;)

  • @Jabreen - good line! I did have a line at the bottom trying to say something of how no gifts are expected, the presence of family and friends is what we were looking forward to.  I'll try to work something in that makes it a bit more clear. That cute line is high on my list!!
Thanks @marajay6 and @JennM205 - I meant to keep a line in about no gifts but in reworking it got omitted. REALLY appreciate all the feedback!!

  • Hi ladies - I rarely post on this thread, but need some advice and don't think this warrants a separate post. Thanks in advance for reading.

I just finished graduate school, and am considering a job change post-baby. I like my current job well enough, salary and benefits are great but not sure I want to stay in the industry long-term. Out of the blue, got an offer to interview for a different job in different industry. Would be exciting, new, different. I originally agreed to interview at like 18 weeks, but here I am at almost 26 weeks and we are finally scheduling it. I am still interested in the job, but convenience, comfort, and stability of current gig will be hard to give up, at least through pregnancy and post partem. Also the thought of finding/wearing business professional clothes all day and presenting is exhausting. I have not disclosed pregnancy, but it will be obvious when they see me.

WWYD? Keep interview and see what happens? Decline and try to stay connected till after baby's born?

  • Trying to catch up, but many hugs, high fives and love tits to all. DH gets home in two more days. I usually have no issues handling the kids on my own, but the lack of excessive amounts of caffeine is taking its toll this time.

ANNNDDD I just can't catch a break. Dog runs out the front door as the dog trainers show up, takes me 30 minutes to get him.
