@jen11797 I didn't think I would get another look before he was born, but the doc randomly decided she wanted to look at my appointment yesterday and I was surprised!

@rnyland1 that's what I'm holding out for lol. It's definitely possible. I think my concern is more that she hasn't moved from the same position she's been in and doesn't seem to want to go anywhere else.
@rnyland1They can, but as they get more crowded, it's not nearly as likely. A lot of doctors feel safer too just scheduling a c section, which can be scary for women hoping to avoid surgery.
@whataboutscience...you don't have to listen to everything your doc says though. I would have doc keeping checking up to a few days before my due date before scheduling mine. My doctor has repeatedly tried to get me to schedule an induction for a reason that I think is very sketchy and has little validity...and I repeatedly refuse to do so. Some of it comes down to convenience for the doctors.
SJGR for sure! I got my U/S report from yesterday's growth scan, and due to the complete previa, the specialist recommends delivery via C/S in the 36th week. I'll be 34 weeks on Thursday. In likely 3 weeks or less, I will be having a baby. I'll know more on Monday when I see my regular OB again, but it's definitely getting real over here!!
So there's this boy. He kinda stole my heart. He calls me "Mom"
@rnyland1 I have heard from a friend that had been going to the same dr I am seeing that there is a high chance he will try and offer to deliver the baby a week early. From what she was saying, he tends to do this so he can go hunting or something. Thankfully, it hasn't come up yet, but if it does I know I am going to flat out refuse unless it is for a valid, medical reason.
I was just told by my OB that they probably won't let me go the full 40 weeks due to the baby's size. I'm grateful that they are letting me go as long as possible, but it's crazy to think that I will have a baby in as little as three weeks rather than six. It's definitely getting real. I'm excited to finally meet her but I'm also nervous since she is my first child.
@Mbondi0 is there some other health risk factor playing into them not letting you go to 40? So often they are way off (in the heavier side) on size guesstimates, personally I'd be a little balky at a 2-3 week early induction unless there was some other mitigating factor! But my docs/mw have all been very hands off and don't do growth scans or weight estimates, so I guess I'm at the opposite end of things. FX for a happy, healthy baby and you when the time comes!

Inducing based on weight only is not a valid medical reason. You should at least wait until 39 weeks so the lungs have more time to develop.
@erin7264 I also have had gestational diabetes since the first trimester which I think they are also taking into consideration. It has been well controlled with diet and insulin but I know they are still concerned. I agree that it's not an ideal situation but I do trust them since they were very adamant about no early deliveries unless absolutely necessary. I'm hoping that I will find out more after my next growth scan on 6/30. They are also doing Non Stress tests twice a week along with fluid checks. I feel like I spend most of my time at the doctor's office now but I'm glad that they are monitoring her so closely.

So you're going to post up a picture of your medical degree right? I'm curious as to why you're more qualified than her actual doctor to give your doctor google opinion.

Actually it is valid. I was induced last time at 38+4 because of her estimated small size. It could mean the placenta isn't working, but they have no way to know for sure. I trusted the doctors to weigh the risks and make the best call.
@rnyland1Definitely. I declined induction last time repeatedly. Baby was almost 2 full pounds less than predicted, no meconium or complications. However, I understand that women would be nervous when the medical professional is pressuring them to do one thing and they just want to do what's best for baby.
@whataboutscience yeah...it can also get confusing when you get two different opinions from two different doctors. For instance, my hematologist (I have a type of hemophilia) is telling me that a spontaneous vaginal birth would be the safest way for me to deliver to avoid hemorrhaging. OB wants me to induce I guess out of convenience?? She hasn't given me a reason other than she thinks it would be better for me to give birth in a controlled environment. I don't totally buy that reason though so I keep saying no thank you to the induction. It is frustrating, but it's ok to question some of the recommendations of our doctors.
I just got home and saw all of your responses, so I'm just going to leave this here. Seriously, thank you all. You ladies rock!
That picture is on point! Hang in there sounds like you have had a more difficult pregnancy as well hope the last few weeks here go well and it sounds like you are in very good hands! The end is in sight!

how much did she actually end up weighing and did she spend any time in the nicu?

I'm curious about this as well. I was told at my last appointment (36+3) that she was on the smaller side, around 5lb 9oz. Though I know sonograms aren't always super accurate at predicting weight and this is still in a normal range. But because of that, they wouldn't let me go past my due date. I see another OB tomorrow since mine is out of town this week, so I'm looking forward to seeing what his opinions are as well.
How do people know what size their babies are right now? My doctor measures my belly top to bottom and says I'm on track but I haven't had an US since the anatomy scan in February. Are you ladies getting US or just the tape measure? Just curious.
@sboston06- I had another ultrasound due to GD. They wanted to check baby's size (she was around 4lbs @ 33 weeks) and fluid levels. With DD1, they only guess that she was going to be big because I was measuring big. She ended up a peanut at 6lb 14oz.
@sboston06 After my anatomy scan my dr wanted to do a growth scan 5 weeks later then after that, another 5 weeks later. He only wanted to do two and the last one was last week.
@sboston06 I had an ultrasound to confirm position and see about fluid levels in case I wanted an ECV. Otherwise my office only ever offers an ultrasound at 20 weeks like a lot of other places.
@sboston06 My mfm had me do an ultrasound at 29w as a check in and he measured 98th percentile so they figured keeping an eye was a good idea. Thankfully he's not quite that chunky anymore
Just got a growth ultrasound and baby is estimated to be 6 pounds 9 ounces. Whoa!!!!!!! And his head was measuring big....trying to remind myself these measurements are estimates but whoa..... I still gotta get this guy outta me somehow!!!
At my appt today my midwife was talking about how to make sure I am eligible for my water birth when the time comes and then when we were leaving she said "see you next week, or sooner, you could go into labor as early as tonight!"

@PinkLady2015@brandiK Sorry I missed this. She was born 6 lbs 4 oz and healthy as can be. No NICU. It was frustrating that I was induced but at the same time, they hadn't been seeing as much growth between scans as they would have liked and made a judgment call. But yeah these measurements can be off by like 2 lbs. It's really hard to know. Brandi, hopefully they are also looking at % growth between scans and not just estimated size for you.
Thanks @mandyjulie! I'm not sure how much she's grown since the last time but I had an anatomy scan at 19 weeks and all was well. I've always measured right on track belly-wise, too. I think she's just lower percentile but nothing too crazy, so they had mentioned not letting me go past my due date. I'm tall and I have a long torso so I don't think she's limited there. We will see in a couple of weeks! I don't put much trust in the estimated sonogram sizes. My nephew was supposed to be almost 10 lbs and was actually in the low 8s.
Since I went to 41 with my daughter they did a bunch of checks at 40w to make sure she was happy in there. They told me then that she was 8lbs 7oz and was born a week later at 8lbs 4 oz. The tech at my office said those estimates are a lot less accurate as time goes on. At 28w with this baby she was 2lbs 13 oz and they said that was pretty accurate.
