@salbb thank god you trusted your instincts!! Good luck!!
  • After being at the doctor's earlier in the week for SPD, I now spent the morning at a different doctor's thanks to PUPPS. I am so miserable, and so uncomfortable, and my whole body is covered in one giant itchy rash. I've been taking Benadryl just to try and get some sleep and the itch takes over and keeps me awake. I'm so done. :(
  • Anyone else feeling like they have a cold? Sore throat and almost in a fog?

That sounds horrible!! So sorry! How long does it last for? Can you soak in an oatmeal bath to help the itch?

  • @KDennis202 I'm sorry! PUPPS is the devil; I had it last pregnancy. What helped me most was using Grandpa's Pine Tar soap in a cool shower or bath, cool compresses, alternating using Sarna and the inside of a banana peel topically  (it has anti itch properties), using mindfulness exercises from my Hypnobirthing book, and getting a nice pair of sheets to sleep on. Any rough texture makes it so much worse. Once it started clearing up,  I used Aquaphor and Cera Ve Cream to repair my skin. Keep hydrated too because normal swelling tightness makes the rash feel even worse as well. If you're a sleep itcher, put soft cotton socks over your hands at night. I did that until it spread to the back of my hands to minimize scarring from scratching. Generally, it will go away pretty quickly after delivery. Mine stopped spreading and started to slowly clear up when I had back to back false labor, then it was basically gone by 3 days post birth (your skin may still be sensitive for a while though). GL!

@kbrands7 it's super annoying. Mine started last night around 8 and still have not gone away. It's been constant, no start/stop so I know it's not contractions, and my cervix is definitely feeling the pressure. I mentioned it at my ob appt earlier today and they checked me and said I hadn't progressed past a dimple (which was where I was last week when I was in L&D). I'm only 34 weeks today, so definitely hoping these constant menstrual cramps are simply just another joyous pain of third tri. I hope LO stays head down for you and hopefully he decides to be good and not stay sunny side up!
I've been having exactly this also. Intense period cramps accompanied by back pain that lasts for hours! LO has always been pretty low but these new pains (along with the feeling that I've been punched in the crotch!) make me suspect he is slowly getting lower...plan on checking with my midwife next week about it!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with that! That is one of my biggest fears. I don't know how I would deal with being so itchy. Hugs!
  • I went back to L&D with more contractions. Got an rx for nifedipine and bed rest. Yay!
  • Yesterday I was having major back pains and was halfway convinced that I was going into labor. Turns out I was having the equivalent of a Charlie Horse in my back, which does not feel the same as an actual Charlie Horse does, and is not as easy to relieve on your own. Judging by how well I handled it yesterday, I'm gonna be super graceful during Real Labor (haaaaaaaaa). :P

On the bright side, DH did a really good job calming me down and helping to get the pain to go away, so I'm feeling a bit less nervous about labor in that regard...

  • @kbrands7 how long did yours last? I'm almost 37 weeks, and I'm honestly not sure how I will make it to 40. It started on Monday night and as of this morning it's still spreading, so I'm not hopeful I will get real relief any time soon.

@yogahh unfortunately our bathtub doesn't fill up enough right now for that, but we do have a plumber coming this week!

@KDennis202 it was about a month total. Mine spread beyond my stomach around 35w. By 38w I had been having lots of false labor and it stopped spreading and started to slowly clear up right around that time. It cleared in reverse order-- hands, feet and arms cleared up first and then my legs and torso. I had DS at 39+1, and by the time we were leaving the hospital, it was no longer blistery or plaquey anywhere, just pink and raw feeling. There was definitely some crying in the shower that last month, but to look at my skin now, you'd never know that it had looked so bad, and I typically scar easily too. It may be hard, but you can make it!

@KDennis202 ! I developed PUPPS about 2 weeks ago. It started on my stomach then spread down both legs and up to my chest. I slept only about an hour a night for almost 7 days because I couldn't stop tearing at myself. Now, it's completely gone from stomach and chest and about 50% gone from my legs.

Women seem to swear by that pine soap, but I'm heavily allergic, so I had to go a different route.

    Order this:
    https://www.etsy.com/listing/214473708/puppp-relief-soap-the-original-only-100

It sounds crazy, but this stuff is freaking magic. The first night I used it, I was able to sleep for almost 6 hours itch free. I have no idea what's in it, it's a proprietary herb blend, but they confirmed there was no pine. Leave a layer of of it on any of the inflamed areas for 2 to 3 minutes. It will dry your skin out, but that seems to be what helps. (Don't put it on areas without the PUPPS. I accidentally touched my face with some of it on my hands and it created a dry spot within minutes.)

I've been showering 2 to 3 times a day, so the soap hasn't lasted for more than a few days. I'd advise ordering extra in case it works for you, but thankfully, they ship super quickly. My OB was completely shocked because she said the difference on my stomach was night and day from week to week.

After showering, I started applying this:
    https://www.drugstore.com/natures-gate-vegan-lotion-colloidal-oatmeal/qxp168592

It works much better than the Aveeno lotion which they changed the formulation of several years ago. It's very light and kills the itch without adding a lot of residue to your skin. I do however use the Aveeno oatmeal bar on the rest of my body because the excessive showering was starting to dry out my entire body. Cerave lotion has also been great for the areas that never developed it or healed because it is light and very moisturizing.

If you can stay awake, Benedryl every 4 hrs is your friend and V8 (which some of the crazy boards swear by) is not worth it if your heartburn is bad. I tried it one night and then was itchy and vomiting tomato juice. You can beat your PUPPS!

I haven't had that, but I am always really stuffed up in the morning and then at random times through out the day - like so bad I can barely breathe through my nose.  It's almost like my glasses are pinching my nose shut, although that's not what's happening.

Going back a couple pages to the breathing difficulties - I was having a lot of times when it felt like I would just forget to breathe.  I saw someone mention this improved with iron intake, and honestly I hadn't thought about it but that symptom has improved since I was put on iron pills.  Also being out of breath, omg yes.  The other day at work I was explaining basic library policies to a patron, and I felt like I could barely get through it.  And I was literally just standing there talking to someone, not even moving around.

  • My main gripe is acid reflux accompanied with a nauseated yucky feeling in my chest. OB put me on Prilosect (sp).  Also at night lately I get an intense pain in my mid to upper back on both sides. Like the pain fluctuates between a 7 and a 9.   My OB had previously prescribed Flexeril for me when I pulled my groin muscle and couldn't walk. I still have quite a few left. I took one tonight and Tylenol. It hasn't helped too much on its own but I've added a heating pad to the mix and it feels much better. My allergies are killing me at night. Sometimes my brain forgets to tell my body to breathe through my mouth when I'm stuffed up and asleep and I wake up with a gasp. A bit different than sleep apnea.
Tonight while in the shower my back hurt and I felt a lot of pressure in my sides. Maybe a few BHs.  But then for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to do a few keagels. Did a few and felt a ton of pressure and a strong urge to push.  The urge only lasted a second.  My water is still intact so not sure what that was about.

Throughout the day I get stuffy and sorta feel foggy at times.... And stuffed up always at night which causes me snore as loud and scary as a chain saw.
  • I have this impending period feeling. I wouldn't call it cramping but just a dull lower back pain I normally get before my period and/ or (TMI warning) when I have diarrhea. Before my period I also get this brain fog feeling. I don't feel sick like I've got a cold but I feel blah like I want curl up with a book or movie and hide from the world. That's me right now.

Sounds about like me, too. Nesting? Pfft, please. More like lay around and do nothing.

  • I'm also having lower back pain and intermittent period/diarrhea like cramps. It's the worst throughout the night when it comes with Braxton hicks. Between that and the pain in my ribs, sleep is nearly impossible.

I've hit the point where I get lightning crotch with every transitional movement  (from sitting to standing, laying to sitting, etc.) I'm happy that he's that low at least (Fx he stays head down low). Trying to explain the pain/sensation to DH proved a bit futile. Oh, and I'm rocking a belly bruise where LO has been pushing repeatedly.
This is me too. My ob in CA changed my initial due date of May 6 to May 20, but I've thought that my due date is really closer to the original May 6. With my recent false labor encounter, baby being super low and head down for about 6 weeks already, and all this other fun stuff, I'm just praying this baby holds out until my mom flies in on May 4 so I'm not all by myself. Driving myself to the hospital which is 12 miles away with false labor contractions every 2 minutes was not an enjoyable experience. Here's to hoping your little man stays head down and low, even though that comes with some discomfort, at least it gives you hope of accomplishing that vbac!
  • @ncm0328 Thank you! I hope your little one hangs in there until at least the 4th! I'd tend to think too with your symptoms to expect a due date closer to the beginning of May than the end. Here's hoping too that you don't need to make any more uncomfortable hospital drives alone. Major props and hugs to you and others with deployed husbands!

This is me too. It's awful. Additionally, I am only getting sleep in about an hour and a half spurts. Which wouldn't be so bad, except that when I wake I inevitably have to pee, which requires getting out of bed, which is a whole process (as we all know!), then falling back to sleep takes another hour at least. It's wretched. Between that and toddler sleep regression I pretty much just feel like I shouldn't even bother going to bed anymore.

@ncm0328 have you looked into uber or lyft in your area to help alleviate some concerns about driving in labor? I wasn't in the same situation, but I know with my last pregnancy having a rough idea of a strategy (who to call about the dog, leaving extra keys with the doorman, taking a cab in rush hour to the hospital a few weeks before to time the worst case scenario) helped alleviate some anxiety over getting to the hospital. Fingers crossed you don't have to worry and your mom will be there to help you!
  • @Mello13 yes, those sleep regressions are rough. We're back down to a once per night wakeups with DS. I really hope he can get to STTN before DS2 arrrives. I hope the regression you're dealing with passes quickly!
  • I lost a piece of my mucus plug today. Now, I know this means absolutely nothing in terms of when baby will come, but it still clicked something in my head that said, "you're having a baby soon!" ...So that was pretty exciting haha
  • @Bltbear82 yes! I've got the info in my phone for cab services in the area just in case. Trying to be as prepared as possible!
  • Ladies, any recommendations for the back pain?  Usually it only flares up towards the end of the day when I've been super active but it's been here today since I got out of bed.  I'm trying to do laundry & sort through LO's clothes to wash and I can't even sit or stand for more than 20 minutes before I need to lay down.
  • @valerie4786 : my chiropractor has advised that I wear a belly support belt pretty much at all times now, but especially if I'm busy/standing up/walking around. The weight of the belly than gets supported a little by the belt as well as opposed to only by your lower back and abdominal muscles. It definitely helps, but my back is still killing me at night.

Thanks! He's always been a great sleeper, but he's got 2 year molars coming in (late), plus all the excitement and change re: the baby, so he pretty much comes running down the hall to our room every. single. night. I don't want to forbid him or gate him into his room, because we want him to be able to come to us when needed. He's obviously struggling with the changes too, and given that the baby will be sleeping in our room, I know he won't understand why he isn't allowed. It's just difficult when it's so hard to fall back to sleep! Most nights he waits til he hears DH get up for work, and I don't mind so much then because 1. I'm already awake anyway. And 2. More room in the bed!!

Good luck to you with your son. Hopefully he gets to STTN soon! This too shall pass lol

We went through a phase like that with DD around 2. She ended up in bed with us most nights. I'm not sure what her issue was but I think part of it had to do with nightmares. She always seemed so scared and I definitely didn't want her to feel scared alone! It eventually passed and she started sleeping through the night again. Hang in there!
  • Does anyone else have pain/pressure that seems to be on your urethra? Like pain you would get when you pee with a UTI, but it hurts just from standing up? I've been checked for a UTI and I don't have one, but ouch!
