The Named

My husband is working a late tonight & I'm a little bored. I know we had a name thread a while back discussing name ideas but with so many of us now knowing what we are having I was wondering how many babies have been named by now? Our little girl will be Alice Ruth to go along with her big sister Penelope Rose. Let's hear those baby names! :)

  • Team Green, much to my husband's chagrin. Probably won't discuss it until...birth?

  • @mom2adoodle I've never heard Finley for a boy before but I really like it paired with James!

@izzetoot You are lucky. I always seem to get negative opinions on our babies names, from family mostly. With DD1 my mom & stepmom thought Penelope Rose was too girly & unusual, and my dad was just miffed that I wouldn't name her Robin after him (his name is Robert & my brother is ALREADY named after him). This time around I'm being told that Alice Ruth is too plain of a name and is not pretty enough to go with Penelope Rose. Oh and my dad is still miffed that I won't consider Robin for this girl either! Lol!
  • @VeraMali I LOVE both of your girls names! I love how simple and old fashioned Alice is as opposed to some of the really out there names our kids will be surrounded by as they grow up.  And im sure Penelope will get shortened by her friends to Penny or Pen both of which are adorable, but Penelope is beautiful. We got a little neg feedback from our first, Robert Michael III calling him Bobby as opposed to Tripp or Robby or some other version of Robert. Everyone said Bobby was too nicknamey.  But we didn't care!

  • @izzetoot thank you!! I feel like Penelope & Alice are both very classic names, names that fit well on little girls and grown ladies! I like your names as well. I dislike nicknames on young children unless given by the parent, otherwise I think nicknames should wait until they are old enough to say whether they like them or not. So pooh on all of those who didn't like your choice in a nickname! My dad has been trying to call my daughter Penny Loafer for the past 2.5 years now and I still correct him every time. I mean out of all the nicknames you could have tried to persuade me to use you decided on naming my kid after a shoe? Nope, not happening! Lol!
  • Both my daughters names are unisex/maybe unusual to some. I have a Deklyn Rose and a Cameron Kay. With this being my third girl i have NO idea what I am going to name her. Every girl name I hear I just can't get down with it. Maybe because I had my boy name picked out and ready to go. DH keeps pushing Evan Elaina (call her evie). I feel like if I'm going to call her evie anyway then I should just name her Evelyn or Everly. I was also thinking of sticking with the unisex train and naming her Andi Claire. But as of now I just can't decide. I might just have to look at this thread and the Name board to get some ideas :)

  • @seitzy3 I like Blair as a unisex name
  • @seitzy3 I really LOVE Evelyn Claire, Evelyn was one of my top girl picks but my husband vetoed it.
  • We've known we are having a girl for 3 weeks and are not close at all to a name.  DH has vetoed all my suggestions.  He says he has some in mind but won't tell me yet.  He knows how impatient I am and loves to drive me crazy!

We do know her middle name will be RuthAnn but that is as far as we've gotten.

  • We don't know the sex yet, but we have top 3's for boy and girl, just in case our first case just doesn't fit. For girls its Evelyn, Hazel or Abigail, middle name will be Alison for my mom who pretty much raised me on her own. For boys its Liam, Theo or Emmett, probably with the middle name Barry or Richard (my dads names). DH isn't really close with either of his parents and vetoed their names for middle names.

We don't know the gender. But we like Shyanne Michelle for a girl and possibly Tyson Daniel for a boy. Still debating on the boy name. Michelle is my sisters middle name. I thought it would be cool for her to share that. And my 2 year old son's name is Trevor Robert. His dad wanted a travis jr. But i thought it would be confusing. So we did trevor. And Robert is my dad's middle name and my hubby's grandpa's first name. It's very neat. We call him T-bob. I can't wait to find out if this will be our baby Shy or our baby Ty.

Sylvia Elaine and I finally decided on the spelling. Only my husband's family pulled faces at my choice, so I take it as a win.

  • Trying to wrap my head around what they will be called once they are on the outside :-)
Maybe Harrison for a boy and Bailey for a girl.
  • We already have 2 sons, Dimitri and Damien. We found out a week ago we are expecting our third boy (which we've decided will be our last child) we like Dexter as of now. :)

  • Xander Gaius or Luca Grace

    DS is Roman Artashes

We decided on Luca for a girl the day before our scan and got a hint of having a boy. Waiting for the NIPT to come back to confirm.

  • We don't know the sex yet and are considering staying team green. If it's a girl, she will be named Evelyn Elizabeth. I have always loved the name Evelyn (it's my grandma's) and I'm a little annoyed by it's increasing popularity, but we will use it for a girl. If it's a boy, he will most likely be named Quintin Ellsworth, but I'm not 100% sure. Walter has also come up in our discussions.

No names yet but I love messing with people. DS is Jameson so when people ask I tell them I LOVE Ginger for a girls name or Bailey for girl/boy. Their looks = priceless (if I can keep a straight face)!  :D

  • @PSUBecky23 I'm a fellow team greener and like you the baby names will probably not be picked until birth.   We just can't decide on one that we love.   That being said I keep thinking it's a girl and am getting irrationally excited to be having a girl.  Even though I know it's a 50/50 shot.   Is your head/thoughts swinging one way or other for your baby?   I'll be excited either way at birth but for some reason I can't get the thought of 'It's a girl!' out of my head.
  • @LakeR2014 I have absolutely no feeling about the sex of this baby. Didn't with my daughter either.

It took us until a week before my daughter was born to agree on a name and we knew her sex. So, we're just going to drive ourselves crazy trying to agree on two names. So may as well wait, I guess. I have a list for both sexes going but the girl list is way longer.

  • @VeraMali I love your names and I had to laugh a bit when I read them because we are deciding between Alice, Penelope and Nora. I LOVE Alice but DH has some negative connotations with it I'm trying to help him see past. Penelope is beautiful but we have a "P" last name which would make her name sound a bit cartoonish and make her initials "P.P". Nora is pretty but in Danish it's still very old-fashioned and also the name of Clarabelle cow. I'm trying to see past that but it's hard. So as of now, this gal is " baby sister"
  • We have to wait a few weeks for find out what we're having but the names we have agreed on for a girl are valerie, Zoe and Caroline and the only one for a boy is nash.  :) still stuck on the middle names though!
  • I am impressed that some of you guys are so far in the naming process! We are having a boy and can't decide on any names yet. And to complicate the options even more the name must sound good in both English and French which definitely restricts the choices!

I went to high school with two girls named Morganne and Shaeffer which are pretty unisex/unusual for girls @seitzy3
  • We still don't find out till the 5th but we have first names decided.

Alice for a Girl and Oliver for a boy. I really want her to be Alice Rose but I can't get DH on board.

@VeraMali - I think the nickname "Penny Loafer" is so stinkin cute.. but maybe I'm weird.  I call my son "weasel" all the time... nothing to do with his name. I think I picked it up from Boy Meets World (Eric used to call his little sister weasel all the time). I think I like weird terms of endearment.
I'm with you, @AnnaS930 ...I come up with all kinds of nicknames for my kids, dog, husband...and they are always terms of endearment.  I mostly call my daughter Poodle, but also Sass and Faluella May.  My son is Monkey, Pooh or Bubs. And the dog, whose name is Quincee, is Qdoba, Doo Doo or You Damn Dog if she's been naughty.  For a while I was afraid that my kids would not know their real names until they were five because I always call them something else!
  • @Ssoccerball - so glad I'm not alone. Emmett is more often "Monkey man, Bubba Boy, Weasel, Goober Boober" than he is his actual name. My husband Matt is "peanie" most of the time.. started with peanut and I somehow made a nickname of a nickname. And my dog Roxy is "Shnoody-doody-booty" most often.

  • We have *I think* finally decided on our first names at least... Alexander for a boy (after DH's grandpa and we just like it) and Hannah for a girl. Our last name also starts with "H" and it took me a minute to get used to, but now I can literally picture her.

My mom still calls me every.single.day. With name suggestions. Most of the time I just laugh at her. She means well. ;)
  • This baby boy is Lucas Michael.  We had a boy name picked out from the beginning but hadn't come up with a girl name.  Lucas was our boy name when we were team green last time but had a girl.  So that made the naming process super easy this time.  I've always loved the name Lucas and Michael is after my Dad (and DH's too I guess.  His Dad's name is Michael also but I'm not a fan of his so I'll just pretend it's just for my Dad ;) ).

  • If we have a girl, her name will be Olivia Antoinette.  Antoinette is my middle name and I was named after my great aunt.  If we have a boy, his name will be Jaxon Lane.  Lane is my husbands middle name.

HAHA!  Ok @AnnaS930  How does nickname of 'Shnoody-doody-booty' come out of 'Roxy'?
  • @AnnaS930 and @Ssoccerball --right there with ya in crazy nicknames. My guy is "monkey-moo, doodle-bug/butt, squirt, bugaboo" and more. I wasn't ever much of a nickname person...until I had a kid. Haha.
  • @LakeR2014 - HAHAHA!!  I have no idea.. it starts as a tiny nickname and just keeps growing until it ends up at something like "shnoody doody booty" that doesn't make perfect sense to you?? :)  Never said I wasn't weird.

The origin COULD be that it started as Roxy, then Roxy-doodle, then.. somehow it morphed. That's my only guess of where the dood sound started.

  • If it's a girl then she'll be Layla Rose. For a boy, he will be Joshua Michael, and we will call him Josh. DD is McKenna Lee. Still don't love the way McKenna and Layla flow together, but I'm set on the name.
