Regarding nicknames, I don't do them for DD often (she'll occasionally get Peanut), but we call our dog "Turd" (or Turdy) more than we call him Eddie. It's orgin was pretty obvious... he's a Jack Russell and often acts like a turd.

I have a jack too! I love him but yes the name turd fits.
Me: 32 DH: 31
TTC #2 since January 2018
Baby #1 DD Born 8/25/2016 BFP: 8/11/18 Due: 4/26/18
@kosmo86 - I read that comment thinking you both have sons named Jack that you call Turd.. and I thought hey, calling my son Weasel isn't so bad after all.. Nope, nope nope. I'm still Mother of the Year over here!
My daughter will be Gisela Joy, Zella will be her nickname. I've loved this name for as long as I can remember. She is my third and last child so I figured now's as good a time as any if I want to use that name :-)
Since we know that we are having at least one boy, I *believe* we will be using Benjamin Allen and he will go by Ben (as our last name is really long and my other kids are Jack and Kate...simple, one syllable names). Allen was my DH's father, who passed away when we were dating.
We don't found out until the 20th of April but we settled on names a few weeks ago Gavin James for a boy Holland Joy for a girl This is our 5th and final baby, we already have Logan James, Cadence Colleen, MaKenna Grace and Kiera Faith, and yes both boys will have the same middle name after hubby's name.
Names are hard! I love classic names, but I want the name to FIT my baby and is a little harder than I though back when I was a kid. I'm your standard mixed background white American, but my husband is Salvadorian/Guatemalan. He's flexible, but I feel like I need a name that somehow reflects that background, yet doesn't trip people up with spelling or pronunciation. We have an ultrasound Monday and hopefully will learn the sex, so I'll worry about it after that!
@camichael84 - doggy nicknames are the best! We have a ton including "the baby" and "baby girl" which might get a little confusing when THIS baby girl arrives...
DH and I have talked about having 2 names picked and to decide at birth. I thought we had decided that one choice would be Josephine, but now the we know it's a girl DH is backtracking a bit. I think he just assumed we wouldn't need an girl name
MY current pick is Josephine Emilia and DH does like Emilia for a middle name. Josephine to honor the many Josephs in the family and Emilia as a nod to a late grandmother named Emily.
Whoa this thread exploded overnight! Lol I love all of the names and can't wait to see pictures of them all in a few months. Sorry to all the nickname ladies, I just can't get on board with it. To me I put so much effort into finding the perfect name for my LO that it's kind of almost offensive to me when people try to butcher that perfect name with a nickname! I know I'm in the minority on that thought though lol

Eh, I can appreciate that. My son is Emmett, which doesn't lend to obvious nicknames based on it. One of the teachers at daycare one morning said "Hi Emmy!" and I nearly laughed out loud. My sister's name is Emily, she can go by Emmy if she wants but it doesn't fit my son.
@geminigirl16 I'm with you on the name sounding good/existing in both languages (with us it was English and Spanish). We ended up going with Xavier for our DS and I also love the French pronunciation of this name! This time around, I am really stuck and it may help once we know the sex. Last time we were team green so it was a while before we had agreed upon 2 names.
We refer to the baby as Fin (for Finley) but as "baby last name" to the public lol. My MIL started calling our baby baby linguini (which is like an affectionate way to say tongue in Portugese, since DH used to gave his tongue out a lot as a baby) It's odd, it's weird, but whatever. Linguini it is.
It's hard to say "the baby" because our pup IS the baby! For now....ha...we'll see how this goes.
We are 90% sure we are going with Logan Anthony for our little man to be! Its the only name (Logan) we have both agreed on. Anthony was already decided as a middle name because its the middle name to DH's brother, dad, grandfather and my cousins first name. However we havent and do not plan on annoucing until later or birth just in case we decide on a different first. I also like Sawyer, Roman and Dawson. Hubby vetoed those.
Just in case for a girl we have Amelia Dawn picked out. Hoping like crazy DH's cousin who is 3 weeks ahead of me is not having a girl because she has Amelia picked out as a contender. We never told anyone about choosing Amelia as a girl name and I have had it picked out since I was a little girl. All of our family resides in the same small town so we can't have two Amelia's in the family.
I also wanted to throw out some unsolicitated advice to @Seitzy3 Emerson is a cute unisex name as well too. I think it goes well with Elaina.
@Smashbox29 We're going with Logan for one of our twins, too! It was the only name I was set on from the very beginning and we decided to use it whether it was for a boy or a girl.
We've got our names picked out but don't know for sure what we're having yet:
Boy/boy: Logan Avery and Aiden William Boy/girl: Logan William and Harper Elizabeth Girl/girl: Logan Alexandra and Harper Elizabeth
@EscoMama both DH's and my family are almost exclusively Spanish speakers so the names we're considering are those that sound well in both English and Spanish. If a name sounds too different in one of the languages or just doesn't sound well in Spanish (like Matthew, for example) we won't even consider it. We want the grandparents and extended family to be able to pronounce the name easily. We've considered Logan, Liam, Ian, Arianna, Anna, Stella, etc. So names that read well in both languages but are not necessarily Spanish, although we do have some names in Spanish as well. Maybe that thought process could work?
@Smashbox29 Emerson was our second choice for Cameron (baby number 2) Why it grew off my husband I have no clue. I think because we would call her Emmi and our niece is Emma.
@EscoMama and @AlwaysAuntNeverMom I'm Mexican and my husband is American. We also want names that are the same in English and Spanish. Our girl name is set and had been since before we got pregnant Catalina Bea. We are having a hard time with the boy name because we just can't agree on anything. Our last name is smith so we want to go with an exciting first name! Our second girl option in case it is a girl but doesn't look like a Catalina is Monica
We are slowly moving through the name conversation, but my husband sees no need to rush. I don't either, but would like to move a bit faster, haha! The current contenders, as of last night are (I am a sucker for name meanings, so they follow)
Madeline Elizabeth (high tower consecrated to God)
Victoria Joyce (victorious joy)
Lawrence Robert (crowned with laurel, famous brilliance)
Patrick Odin (nobleman, god of wisdom and war)
Joyce was a grandmother-figure in my life (she passed away 2 years ago), Lawrence was my uncle and a really great man. Robert was my grandfather, a pretty good guy too. The rest just sound nice, haha.
My mother HATES Odin, since it is also the name of this awful, cheap, broken-down system she works with and has to fight with every day. I think she will get over it, but it still makes me laugh.
I have this long list of boys names I love....and this tiny tiny list of girls names. I want at least 8 names of each that I love & will send to my ex & tell him to pick off that list
So far, Collin, Cooper, Colton, Eli & Shawn. Middle name Allen. For girls, Lydia & Josey. Middle name Mae.
We don't find out what we are having until April 5th. But we have Jude Francis for a boy and Gwenyth Jean for a girl picked out. Pippa Jean is a close 2nd for a girl.
We don't know the sex yet, but our short lists are:
Girl - Tessa Christine, Alice Ruth (great taste @VeraMali!), and Emilia Christine Boys - Connor David, Asher David, Mason Robert
We won't decide until we meet him/her.

I'm a little surprised at how popular Alice has become! I've never met a single Alice in RL that I know of. It will be slightly funny to see all of the birth announcements stating Alice is here!! In a few months lol
@seitzy3 You could also shortened it to emery as a nickname instead of Emmi. I love that name for a boy but everyone tells me it's used more for a girl. We really liked Emerson Blake for a hot minute until people said it was to feminine.
Main reason we are not announcing the name anytime soon.
I also like Emerson Blake for a boy @Smashbox29 For a girl it'll be Anika Marie after family tradition. Every other first girl for about 8 generations has been Maria or some variation of Ann Marie. So my grandma was Maria, my mom was Annette Marie, and I'm Maria. A boy is a bit harder. We used most of dhs family names on ds. Samson Aaron, Sam was for his dad and Aaron going back forever as first sons middle name. I'm thinking Arne (old Swedish name) after my grandpa for a middle name and Fredrick or Francis after mine or dhs grandpa. If Francis, he'd obviously go by Frank, but do you guys think Francis is too girly now?
Slacker here, we have no names. We have middle names decided, but not first names. Our sons name is Lyric Robert. We do know we want another unisex name (team green) and we want it to remain unique, but I promise you we are not a way out there family. I just want my kid to be the only one in the classroom, not the 3rd.
@netsirk2013 I was always the only Vera in my class. I was the Veronica trying to be a Heather for all of my teen years, that's why I'm not disappointed when our name choices aren't overly unique. I think you can't win as a parent though! If we pick a unique name at some point they are going to wish it was more common & if we pick a common name at some point they are going to wish it was more unique.
