@Joyzie77 and @teridanielle I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you guys! @smitty18 I am on day 3 of stims too! I had a dull nagging headache all day and I feel a bloated. Fun times... @thejessicanicol I had the option of belly or upper thigh but I just feel like I have a little more "cushion" in my belly so I opted for that location and its not too bad. @Rachd110 I read that is good for something but can't remember what!
Hello all! This is the 2nd round of IVF for DH and I. Had a failed fresh and frozen ET. Started BC on 9/21, Lupron injections on 10/14, last BC on 10/18 and now just waiting for AF's visit to start the series of u/s. We are praying and have everything crossed that third time's the charm!
H&H 9 months to all that got their BFPs!!
Baby dust and well wishes to all on this IVF journey!!
Good morning! I am jumping on this board too because it seems as if my IUI cycle will be converted to IVF this month. I am pretty excited! I went yesterday for an US and the nurse measured 10 follies that were 9 and above. She said there were more too, just not big enough yet. She said if they all keep growing that she is thinking egg retrieval Saturday or Monday.
I am worried about this cycle working though because when I met with the new doctor last week, he said they have not been aggressive enough and put me on a bunch of new meds. PCOS has not been confirmed but I have a high AMH level and I start each cycle with at least 10 follicles so he put me on metformin. Autoimmune diseases run rampant in my family so he put me on prednisone, intralipids and neupogen. He also increased the synthroid and finally, he had me start the ketogenic diet. I hope that all of the drastic changes don't put my body in shock and that we still have a good chance of the embryos sticking.
@claire1884 Had ultrasound and blood work today and took opportunity to ask Dr. - she said headaches were a common side effect of the Lupron. Got another one today, too. Good times!
@erinscaren I live in Connecticut. I misspoke about free acupuncture (of course the brochure doesn't say it isn't free, just that it's offered by the clinic) - but you can submit it to insurance. It's a covered benefit for me, and I only have to pay $10! So almost free!
@villacis811- when I underwent IUI i had my dosage reduced. It's a good thing! It means you responding very well to the meds, and they don't want your follicles to develop too quickly. That's why they monitor us so closely- to make adjustments for optimal results.
@rachd110 - not no exercise at all, just no heavy abdominal activities (twisting, lifting). They also said you keep exercising if you are currently doing so, just don't start one now. They also advised if you currently exercise to take it down a notch - if you run, walk instead. I'm cool with taking a doctor approved workout break! lol.
So anyone who's done IVF before - i had my first ultrasound today (day 4 of injections) and had 6 follicles >10, and 6<10. Is this good? bad? The only feedback I got was that "you're responding to the meds!" I just want to be sure I have a fair shot at making this thing work!
Good luck to everyone. I'm already grateful for each of you and your listening ears!!
@villacis811 I had my meds reduced several times throughout the course of the stims phase. My body reacted quickly to the meds and I was able to push my ER and ET up a few days. The doctor starts at a baseline and then adjusts as needed. The fact you're responding quickly is good!
This is awesome! I started stims on 10/16. Started with 225 of Gonal F & Menopur. Had labs done yesterday and they kicked up my dose to 300. Going back for labs and U/S tomorrow...hoping to schedule ER soon
@Navarro1126 We are on a similar schedule. I go back for BW and US tomorrow too and hopefully can schedule the ER soon as well. I am thinking maybe Monday. I am on 275 follistim and 75 menopur. Good luck!
@amos1417 that's great...it helps to have a buddy. Let us know how it goes...this is my 1st IVF and am super nervous. Had 2 failed IUI's and IVF is not covered by my insurance so we pretty much have 1 shot :-< good luck to you too!! FX
@Navarro1126 This is my first IVF cycle as well! I am nervous too. I had 4 IUs and the second resulted in a chemical. IVF isn't covered by my insurance either, but this started as an IUI cycle and will get converted to IVF. My RE has a reduced price for IVF conversions.
Hey all.. love reading all your updates. I just ovulated, but this was a cancelled IUI cycle, so now I wait for my period so I can start up my IVF cycle. I go on Thursday for the bloodwork for genetic testing.. we decided to go with Recombine. Anyone else do genetic bloodwork testing?
@amos1417 I'm sorry to hear about your IUI results. It's so hard not to get your hopes up every time. I keep saying i will be "cautiously optimistic" but i really just add more nursery Pins to my Pintrest board. LOL...trying to stay positive and hopefull. Wishing you and everyone else a BFP!!
@twomommiestobe OMG! I am so tempted to buy all the time but my DH is really good about reminding me that we need to take it one step at a time. The farthest I've gotten is bringing home a paint swatch from Home Depot. In the meantime I satisfy my urges by shopping for my baby niece. Lucky her! Lol
I also did Counsyl genetic testing when I first started seeing my RE. I received my IVF protocol today. I start menopur and follistim on Sunday then Ganirelix about six days later. I'm not excited about all the injections, but can't wait to get started. Today is my last day on birth control...thank goodness! It's made me extremely hungry. My tummy can't seem to get full and it started shortly after I started the pills.
They have me taking cipro and medrol after the retrieval. Anyone else have to take these pills? Anyone know why?
@Navarro1126 and @twomommiestobe I pin and buy too! I haven't hone crazy buying, but I'll buy a onsie or a cute outfit each cycle. It helps me stay excited and focused.
Yay @Rachd110! That's exciting! The injections do get easier, don't even think about them! Good luck!
I'm so looking forward to seeing the BFPs from this group!!
@Rachd110 the antibiotics are just because the retrieval is a surgical procedure and with any procedure there is risk of infection, so they are just prophylactic. The steroids decrease inflammation and temporarily suppress the immune system to assist with embryo implantation.
Our RE hasn't mentioned PGS or PGD. While I have also heard that the chances of implantation are higher, my RE wants me to go do the genetic testing first just on me. If I flag for anything, we will then do my husband. We looked at PGD, and I know that if we went that route, we would also want to choose the gender.
Welcome to all the newbies!! @Piperella we are doing PGS. It was a tough decision though. We are already paying out of pocket for everything so it costs a lot, but we want to maximize our chances of a viable pregnancy. I just signed pages and pages of consents; it's scary to think that there is a small chance of injuring the embryo but hopefully I will produce plenty and it will be worthwhile. @Rachd110 I have the same meds prescribed for afterwards as well. I guess to prevent inflammation and/or infection?
Thank you for the info, @claire1884. We are going through all the pages and signing our paperwork, too. We are paying out of pocket as well, and think we may not do pgs or pgd the first cycle (fresh and fet), and if we have to get into a 2nd cycle, we will possibly do something then. Hopefully we won't have to go there, but it's an option. Time will tell.
@2mommiesforbaby woo hoo! So so happy for you! Big fat congrats on a BFP! ) )
@twomommiestobe Yes you will! Just think, less than 3 weeks!
@rachd110 Oh don't worry, neither my nurse nor RE even MENTIONED I'd be getting these meds, just surprise! there they were when I picked up all my meds. I only know that because I am in healthcare and because my pharmacist was an IVF patient at my same clinic and she filled in the rest!
Starting Lupron tonight, how terrible is this going to make me feel? I feel like I've already gained 10 lbs from being so hungry on the BC!
@poeface - I had 9 retrieved and 6 fertilize. 3 made it to 5d blastocyst. I had 1 transferred and 2 frozen - and got my BFP beta today! All it takes is one! Good luck!
@poeface i have the same nervous feeling, but @2mommiesforbaby is right! It only takes one! CONGRATS!!!! so excited for you!
'
@claire1884 we are in the same boat. 100% out of pocket. YIKES! its a lot of $$$, and it hurt to have to pay it all up front.
@piperella signing the paperwork was kind of funny. also overwhelming, but I wonder what lawyer or lawsuit brought about some of the items i had to sign away, like "By signing this document, I certify that I am not married to another party"...Any one else find anything funny in their consent forms?
Question for the group- anyone's emotions out of control? I barely know the woman who works as the cashier at my office cafeteria... I overheard her tell the person in front of me her father had passed away and I welled up on the spot and started sniffling! All these shots are getting to me.
@erinscaren I did my first Lupron shot this morning (I'm supposed to do mine between 6am and 11am). I iced the area for about five minutes before husband poked me. Ice made it barely noticeable. I had some redness in the area for maybe 15 minutes and it's probably because he pinched my stomach a little too hard from being nervous lol. I've been drinking a lot of water today and haven't noticed any weird symptoms! Or at least not yet lol
