Re: Low AMH Level

  • @Imajin99 I'm sorry to hear that the cycle isn't going well.  I hope your appointment goes well today and the RE determines that the egg can be retrieved.

@emmasemm So frustrated for you.  I hope that they can get your levels normalized and that you'll be able to do a transfer early in the new year.

I just had a consult with my RE and a look at my bloodwork during my IVF cycle (I was just so tuned out during the whole process). Has anyone had a huge plummet in their AMH?  My AMH was 2.6 going into treatments but the bloodwork run as part of my cycle prep had my AMH at 0.62 (this would be about two years after the first value). My AFC was -okayish- and my FSH was trending upwards to 10 at that point.

Luckily, my first cycle worked thanks to one particularly hardy day 6 blast that became my little girl. Who is trying to break her way out of her pack n' play lol.

Looking forward, I can't imagine my numbers are any better now. We weren't really planning for anything but I feel like this sorta pulls the nail in the coffin so to speak and it's disheartening.

I sorta wish my RE had told me my values had dropped so significantly, but I'm also sorta glad he didn't since I would have just been upset. He went with his instinct that I was still under 35, AFC was -okayish- and it was likely that my response to stims would be adequate to get a few embryos -- and stressing me out over the numbers wouldn't help matters. I'm just shocked now to see such a low number for my AMH

I guess that sorta starts to explain the whole unexplained part....just feeling a little down and disheartened, I guess. Would donor eggs be our best option if we wanted to move forward with anything??? I don't know how much that AMH means when I was able to get 10 eggs last summer.

  • @mbradfo2 as you may have read, AMH is just a number. It can fluctuate some. If your AFC is good, focus on that. It may take a cycle or two to figure out your egg quality. That’s what’s really important. I know it’s gut-wrenching to see the drop. Hang in there. For what it’s worth, I think you should try an ivf cycle with your own eggs to see how you do. Egg donation can still happen if the I f cycle doesn’t work. Good luck.

    @Imajin99 I’m sorry. I know that’s hard.

  • @lmajin99- sorry about the concerted cycle. Take all the time you need. I will be sending prayers for a holiday miracle for your IUI :)

@mbradfo2- it always sucks to see a lower number, but the fact that you have had success relatively recently is a good sign! AMH can be lowered if your vitamin D is low, so make sure they are checking that too. Overall AFC and FSh are more important. I would suggest no birth control and either estrogen priming or natural start if you do another cycle. Maybe it would be possible to monitor your AFC over the next few months and only start when it’s on the higher end of whatever your range is. There is still hope with lower AFC too, it’s just going to take more cycles. So it all depends on your financial situation and how many cycles you are willing to do :)

@mbradfo2 it’s scary when anything changes but .62 isn’t terrible when I started this process it was .30 and my Re thought it was wrong since my afc and fsh were decent.  Took supplements and after a year it was a .40 (I still continued in the process as I had no time to waste!) and i still got eggs over 40.  Just a quick summary that it’s totally possible to still get some embryos on your own it just depends how long and how many cycles you can/want to do.  One cycle I got 2 Normies and another cycle I got none, it’s a crap shoot sure.  You can totally be upset about the numbers but it’s just that a number u can totally still be in it!!

My vitamin d was also very low so they want me taking supplements for that. But my mom says low vitamin d is very common - she sees it all the time with her patients? So I wasn't thinking much of it but if you say it's related, that at least gives me some hope that supplements could help. My RE also doesn't think too negatively of things since he says my AFC and FSH still look fine and that there are plenty of people with low AMH who have natural pregnancies and never know their AMH is low. It's just so frustrating to see that number since it's dropped so much over just two years :expressionless:

  • Hi everyone, how are you all doing? Hope everyone is well and gearing up for the holidays.  Just a quick update the IVF3 converted to IUI did not work.  I was on progesterone supp and AF still showed up several days early, a week before the blood test.  Have set up a call next week with RE and really think they ended up missing my window and I ovulated early.  In addition, the following week we have a scan at the 2nd clinic and for the new year I think we will start there. Will keep you posted and sorry I haven't been online as much just trying not to think about this disheartening IVF cycles.

  • JamieH2000 Thank you for asking? Are you ready for the holiday season? How are you doing?  So we decided to give one shot to the new clinic even though I don't like how they run their monitoring appointments, first come first serve but I hear that is how a lot of other clinics run things.  This RE wants me on a high dose protocol and since I am lucky enough to have my medication covered the rest of the year at 100% we decided we would go ahead with them for my next cycle at the end of this month plus they are not closed over the holidays like my other clinic.  This time I will be taking 450 Gonal-F, never taken that before and hoping this may do the trick.  I have been doing the estrogen priming and will start as soon as I get my time of the month as long as there are no issues during my baseline u/s.  Last week they did a saline ultrasound and RE said I have a fibroid on right ovary not an endo cyst. Does anyone know the difference? Is one better than the other?

Hope everyone else is doing well as we gear up for the holidays.

  • @lmajin99- glad you are getting in another cycle so quickly! I think its worth trying a high dose cycle if you haven't before. I have not heard of fibroids on an ovary before, i thought they were only in or on the uterus. but i guess anything is possible? I really hope this one works for you!

I am doing alright- almost 31 weeks, but have developed pre-eclampsia unfortunately. so just being monitored often and will see how long we can keep this baby inside!

  • Hi everyone, just wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday season and hope you were able to spend Christmas with loved ones!

@jaimeh2000 How are you doing and feeling?  Hope things are turning out okay with the monitoring and you have been able to rest.

@hopeful_mom My cycle will begin early New Year is what I have in my calendar but already feeling cramppy so may be a bit sooner.  This time the meds are only Gonal-F, not sure if they will introduce Menopur later or not.  Gonal F at 450 and Lupron (not the micro-lupron 2x day) but one dose in the evening.  Hope this does the trick, I just want to make it once to ER so we have seen if there is any quality as well. • Hello ladies, I have read through this entire thread, and it made me so happy to know that there is a group of women in my situation. I am 39, with severely DOR, recently married in April. My last FSH was 53, and AMH is 0.1.  My RE had me do 2 Clomid/Ovidrel cycles with one IUI. Amazingly, I am responding to the medication and ovulation was confirmed, but nothing had worked out. I really just want to try IVF, and my RE agreed. My husband’s insurance plan originally said they would cover 80% if IVF treatment, but now is saying they cover 0%! My husband doesn’t want to spend the money, but I do. We are waiting for the appeal, and I am still considering my options, and paying for it myself. The RE recommended IVF with micro dose flare protocol. I am sure my FSH is way higher because of the Clomid.
From reading through the whole thread, I see that you all tried different protocols, and some found success. Does anyone have any advice for me? I read “It Starts with the Egg” by Rebecca Fett, and I use the OvuSense BBT monitor. My husband doesn’t understand why I am trying so hard, but with my diagnosis, I believe IVF is my only chance. I wish each of you success in the New Year.

  • @annierose3 My advice is IVF. It will cost a lot without insurance but it’s a matter of how much you want to be a mom. I had insurance for it but with low reserve I had to do it four times to get two healthy embryos. Which in the end cost me $20k total. If we had to pay 20 every time we probably would have only tried once. I had low reserve but only one working ovary so my chances were really rough but we got there. Was the 20k worth it? Absolutely! Adoption costs just as much but more guaranteed obviously. Whatever path you choose I wish you the very best and I’d you ever need to talk or have questions feel free to inbox me. I’ll be 39 next month so I get it. Xoxo

  • @LSatturo126 thank you SO much for your advice. I think I am going to go for it. I just found out that my insurance has covered the Gonal F and Ovidrel!!
Thank you so much for replying to me. After reading this whole thread, it is like having a celebrity write to me!

  • @annierose3 I’m like you and read the whole thread before posting too....it was my new novel I couldn’t put down!! It sucks that money is an option and because of your age it’s hard to find help too.  Where ever you are ask your clinic and do a search to see what u can save etc.  Youd be surprised with what you can find out there.  I had no coverage and was OOP.  I was such an old newbie that just had to go go go and didn’t have time to waste.
Spending the money without the 100% guarantee is scary for sure but try not to look at the money aspect just for the moment.  Think of your wants and all of that and mange what u can.  I did way more cycles then I could afford to do no doubt.  But as my girl is sleeping on me as I write this I wouldn’t change a thing.  Granted I would’ve liked it to work sooner but it is what it is.  I can’t tell you the last time I went away some where....but non of that compares to the joy her lil smile brings to me every min of the day.
I wish I didn’t waste as much time on iui with all the extra time wasted and weight gained.  I would get the ball rolling on ivf especially if ur body is responding to meds.  Every person responds differently to protocols so don’t lose hope.  Good luck!!

  • @annierose3 You just made me crack up. No celebrity over here, just your typical every day woman trying to be there for her fellow Bump ladies like some were to me. I may not post much but I do come on and cheer everyone on. Go for it but make sure you have at least a few follicles before the retrieval as the retrieval is the most expensive part. Since your insurance covers those meds that’s amazing cuz I believe the gonal Fwas like $900 a pop. Wishing you a great cycle and new year!

And to the rest of the ladies here....sending you all the same!

  • @LSatturo126 and @hopefulmom thank you so much for your good advice and the encouragement.  I am going to call the RE tomorrow and get started with an IVF cycle.  Did you find the injectable medications gave you any side effects or weight gain? I would love to have enough healthy embryos to freeze and bank. But I am trying to be realistic yet hoping that I can accomplish this with one cycle.  I briefly spoke with my RE about genetic testing, but he seemed to say that if the embryos made it to blast/freeze, then that was a good indication of their overall health.  Thank you so much for sharing your experience! @hopefulmom I completely agree: the thread was like a book that I couldn’t put down. And I felt for all of you in the high and low times.

@annierose3 You might also consider a cost sharing option, like $20000 for three ivf cycles with a baby guaranteed or part of your money back.  You may want to start supplementing now since it takes at least three months for them to make a difference. Good luck!

  • @annierose3 being optimistic is great we all want to be one and done you just never know.  I think the dude effects are different for all!  They say u will not gain weight and if anything just a couple lbs.  ok take that couple pounds and multiply that by all my cycles bam 20lbs.  It doesn’t happen over night so don’t worry about that.  Diet and exercise will always be there. Genetic testing is hard and I only did it once I had my loss.  I think doing the research and knowledge is good to have.

@jamieh2000 I’m doing PT, two steps forward one step back. I’m slooowwwwly improving, but I’ll take it. As far as a transfer, we aren’t sure what to do. DH and I will discuss it in March if my back is better. From what I’ve read with a PGS embryo that has the particular grade this one does, there’s about a 30% chance of success. Better than trying naturally, but we aren’t certain we can handle ***tw**another failure or cp. how are you?  How’s the extra monitoring?

  • @kp214- glad the PT is somewhat helping!! I feel like a pGs normal embryo, regardless of grade should be higher than 30% based on what my
clinic says. It is scary and you should wait until you are ready, but at some point you have to transfer it right? If you don’t try you will never know!
I’m doing ok. Back in the hospital now, probably until he comes. We are 33+1 and trying hard to make it until at least 34 weeks, if we can keep my BP and labs stable. J

@jamieh2000 hospital bed rest can be hard but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. If you want to talk, I’m available. I know how you feel, just take it one day at a time. Every day he’s in there is good. I think I was told that for every day that he’s inside is 2-4 days he won’t have to be in NICU. I don’t recall the exact number. **tw** My son was born at 30+4 and only in NICU for 24 days. That was just to get him to take a bottle and gain weight, no health issues. Hang in there. I’m serious about being available if you want to talk.
