If you are SPOTTING or have questions about spotting.. POST HERE!

After some discussion we thought it would be a good idea to have a spotting thread for ANYONE who is spotting or has questions about spotting.  All of your questions/concerns can go in one place so we dont have multiple threads running on the board.

  • I'm the same. I've seen everything saying it's no worry unless there's cramping but I just wanted to hear it from someone that's lived it.

  • Thank you, @redaero‌. I shall rephrase.
Oh. Now I have to change my quote.
  • I had spotting day before yesterday and freaked out b/c I had a MC back in April. As PP have said, blood=worry. I went in to my OB and got a blood draw for betas so I'd have at least a bit of peace of mind. Luckily, my results are good and the spotting has stopped.

My doc said spotting is common, not necessarily normal, but not to stress cause that is bad for baby too. I just have to monitor and try to relax. I personally find it helpful to ask for other poster's personal experiences. It really helps bring my anxiety level down to know I'm not the only one going through a rough patch. So thanks ahead of time! :)

  • What about spotting as implantation bleeding before a positive preg test? I am not due for my period until the 7th, however, I have had extremely light spotting and mild cramps since Sunday. This is not usually the case for me. This is my first month trying after having a miscarriage in sept. We got pregnant our first month trying then, and so I was hoping we would get pregnant just as easily again. I am not asking if you think I'm pregnant of course. Just thinking this may be implantation bleeding which I will know the answer to by the weekend I am sure. Just wondering what anyone else's experience with implantation has been? Thanks!

@Workofheart8, I'm sorry for your loss.

From what I've read, implantation bleeding is incredibly rare, and when people get it, it's usually a tiny bit when they wipe. If you've been spotting and crampy for 4 days, that doesn't sound like implantation bleeding to me.

Just because you've never had spotting before your period before, doesn't mean it won't ever happen. Cycles can change at any time, especially after a loss.

  • I have had mild spotting for two days. I needed to travel and my OB's office was very kind, said it was probably nothing scary, but told me to pack 'supplies just in case it doesn't go like we hope.' The rational part of me knows I shouldn't stress but the pregnant lady in me cannot stop thinking about the suitcase full of pads that I really hope I don't need.

  • I actually had spotting and then implantation bleeding for almost a week. I even went as far as having my 3 day labs drawn and then scheduled an hsg with my RE. I took a test 2 days before the hsg because the bleeding was not quite like my normal period and to my suprise I got a positive test. I am not sure if you have a history of bleeding or spotting then you will have implantation bleeding, but it does seem like that is the case with me. I actually started testing with RE because of my spotting/bleeding and not getting pregnant after 16 months. You can imagine my suprise when we got a positive test. Now I am just busy praying every day that this is real!

  • So glad someone started this topic! I'm in my 1st pregnancy and have been spotting the last week and a half. Got my BFP about a week ago. Have an appt with my doc next week to make sure everything is ok, but glad to hear this situation can turn out ok for some people. Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences!
  • I have a very small amount of brown spotting, my dr isn't open on the weekend, I assume it'll be fine to wait until Monday? No cramps and it really is hardly any...

Most offices have an on call doc. However, there isn't much they can do if you are just spotting. If it gets worse and is accompanied by pain you can give them a call.

  • @stef7384 I'm so sorry you're dealing with this - bleeding is so scary. Sending positive vibes that it's nothing to be concerned about and that everything is just fine.
  • I had implantation bleeding in my 1st pregnancy, 3 days before my expected period. Not this time though...

@stef7384 Hugs for you! Its definitely scary, but try to stay calm and wait it out like you said. My spotting only lasted for 2 days, but I was a wreck.

  • Thanks for the support fellow August mommies. I think I've gotten over the initial shock and scare and am feeling much more optimistic. I'm definitely going to call my doctor on Monday, but I am feeling much more confident that everything is ok. I think that ranks up there with one of the scariest things I've ever dealt with... I'm already very protective of this little Appleseed! Only time will tell :)
  • @stef7384, I hope you can get some answers on Monday. I'm hoping to make it until Monday myself. Take care of yourself!

  • Hi I am 6 wks today. Noticed blood on the tissue when I wiped on thurs night and for the past few days I've been spotting small amounts of brown discharge/blood. Having looked at others stories, it does seem sometimes it can signal miscarriage and other times it goes away and you go on to have a healthy baby. Guess we have to wait and see! It is so worrying though. Good to get an early scan if you can :)
  • @stef7384 I am going through the same thing.  I started spotting last night.  I had nothing when I woke up but as soon as I went to the bathroom I had some blood.  Not ER worthy but enough to make me worry.  I'll be waiting it out with you.
  • I woke up at 3:30 am to pee last night and saw some spotting. Half hour later there was a small clot. Since then I haven't had any spotting but I couldn't sleep for over an hour and I'm still super anxious now. Of course I'm in a hotel room four hours away from home with my SIL who absolutely can't know bc she took our last announcement terribly. We aren't returning by bus until 11pm tonight and I almost bought myself a train ticket home (since we are with a large group I wouldn't be abandoning her entirely) but have tried to rationalize and stay put. I know this can be common but I'm so freaked out bc spotting and bleeding was how my last loss started. Ugh I cannot wait until my beta tomorrow to hopefully get some peace of mind.

  • Hi ladies!
I got my BFP on Dec 1st. Friday I started spotting and by friday night I started bleeding. It wasnt heavy and it was only when I peed. It was old blood so I wasnt too concerned. Now im bleeding like a heavy period with occasional clots. :( Im 100% I've had a chemical pregnancy. I called the doctor and they set me an appointment for Tuesday. So ill find out for certain then. I hope that everyone else who started spotting has a sticky bean this month!!
  • I had very heavy implantation bleeding with both my chemical pregnancy and my current pregnancy. It lasted about 5 days and filled a pantyliner during the day. I was terrified that this was the start of my period (albeit really early), but got a faint positive, Dr signed me up for hcg level bloodwork and I got my period. This time around I had the same bleeding (exactly the same). Definitely not the one or two spots that all my reading seemed to account for. After being 4 days late I took a test and got a strong immediate positive result and will now be 6 weeks tomorrow. Just goes to show that not all reading is correct and that implantation bleeding can be heavy and not every woman is the same. I do have endometrosis (2 surgeries to remove and got pregnant right after the second one) so maybe that is the difference for me. I have had on and off light or not so light spotting for almost 2 weeks now, either pink or brown, but my hcg levels have been doubling or tripling and there has been no cramping. It is scary, but I seem to be breaking lots of the standard models of what to expect. Just keep faith and know that every woman is different and that normal for you doesn't always have to be everyone else's normal.
  • @PixiePixinator‌ thanks for the FX! I'll keep mine crossed for you as well. I hope you can get a couple of betas to give you some piece of mind. This is such a mind game. Happy. Terrified. And everything in between. Good luck to you! Keep me posted!

  • There was blood on my toilet paper today but not a ton and I called my Dr's answering service.  My initial appointment was not scheduled until January 2nd.  Luckily, one of the doctors called me back and he said not to worry but that they would get me in tomorrow to see a nurse.  I am so relieved that I don't have to wait that long since I was bleeding some.  I have not seen any blood since but I am still very nervous.

  • Bump for some of the new ladies, hoping they find their way here.
  • I got my first bfp jan 2013 and I got nausea around 6 weeks. Around 7 weeks my MS waned and I spotted. First dark and then red. it was slight but lasted for 4 days. Of course it had to happen initially on a Friday after noon when the ob was closed and like @ShellyR‌ I was scheduled to fly out international first thing Monday morning on business. I was so upset and knew I was going to get my period. I bawled on the plane. It was a wreck about it. That pregnancy resulted in a big fat healthy baby 33 weeks later. The rest of my pregnancy was very uneventful. My ob said it can happen and his guess was maybe the placenta lifted a little. I also had a friend who had bleeding around 10 weeks and her baby was fine. It's hard not to worry, I know. My advice Is to just take it easy (physically) and try to keep your mind distracted from it. Btw, the MS came back with a vengeance!
  • Hi ladies,

This is actually my first post on TB. I mainly joined because I figured having support from women in the same boat could help ease my mind about spotting. I'm 5w4d and have been having any range from brown to red spotting every time I pee. Going to the bathroom has become a huge source of anxiety at this point. I already had my 2 beta HCG levels drawn last week (of course the second was drawn the day before the bleeding started. UGH!), and the levels increased appropriately. But like I said... I've been spotting/bleeding ever since. I only have very mild cramps every so often, so who knows. I just absolutely hate this game of not knowing what's happening! I'm also not having any symptoms besides sore nipples... so I'm either very lucky so far, or my hormones are dropping from an impending miscarriage.

Well anyways... thanks to all you future moms and current moms for sharing your stories and giving us newbies some points of reference. I'm sending good thoughts to all of you who are in this boat with me and those seeking answers this week!
  • Not to alarm anyone but I would urge you to go to the ER if you have not had your first ultra sound. Last year I was spotting and waited it out because everyone kept saying it was normal. I ended up in the ER for Emergencey surgery for an atopic pregnancey. The baby's was going in my tube and the blood was filling up my stomach. The doctor said if I would have waited one more hour I would have died. By the way I didn't have cramping up until the hour I decided to go to the ER.i am sorry if this scars anyone but I do not want this to happen to any of you. If I would have went sooner they could have removed only the baby and not the tube.
  • @ShellyR how are you doing? I keep thinking about you!

  • @trudytudy‌ thanks for your post. I'm 6weeks and 1 day - I'm waiting for the results of my second hcg test to see if it's increasing normally or if I in fact miscarried. I was somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean last Thursday flying home from London when I had bright red blood and a blood clot. It went on the entire flight but stopped until Saturday when it's been more brown and spotty, but a few more clots. Of all the places to be and to think you're miscarrying, on an international flight is certainly one of the worst. Waiting to hear is incredibly hard. While you wait, treat yourself to something and be extra kind to yourself. I paid for the car behind me in line at Starbucks in hopes of spreading good around me.
  • @travelinglilbaum - That sounds terrifying. I'm really sorry you were/are in this situation. I hope your hcg level brings positive news. It's nice that you're still giving to others, and here's to hoping that karma comes back around to you!

Mine seems to have tapered off.  I'm happy for that, but still thinking things like spotting is a sign my HCG levels are going down, etc.  It was never bright red - started pinkish and quickly went brown, then a little spot of pink the next day, and back to brown.  Today, pretty much nada.  I think my nausea is back, but its more in waves vs. the nausea/hunger pangs before.  I'm hoping that's a good sign.

edit: Also was only when I wiped, with one exception where there was a visible bit on my underwear....Trying to find all the positives.
