My mom asked me if they measured my belly at my appointments (they don't)? And asked if they didn't measure my belly, then how do they know June is growing on track? Does your doctor measure your belly? I thought that was so weird because every women shows/grows/measures differently? Or is my logic flawed?
Anyway, I was like "duh mom ultrasounds" but she was still concerned?
Hey ladies. I know I haven't been around for a few days, I've got a sick husband, a sick toddler and I think I'm on my way there too. I'm going to try to catch up, but I hope nobody is having an awful week.

I think that is called the fundal measurement. Never happened with my first while being seen by the MFM doctors. My OB does do the fundal measurement and says it is a personal preference of the doctor. ***** Interesting. Thanks, Chicken.
@foxslaw my OB starting measuring at my 20 week appointment this time around. I think with DD it was later...maybe 24-28 weeks? I don't know if this is the "norm" for all docs, though.

Since my 16 wk appointment my OB has been measuring my uterus to see if I'm on track. I guess even if you physically aren't showing much your uterus still has a certain range it's expected to be in? Even my OB said last appointment that I still didn't have much of a bump but my uterus is where it should be. Does your OB physically feel for the top of you uterus?
@foxslaw My OB always measures. It's called the final height measurement. Basically around 18-20 weeks they start measuring and the length from the pubic bone to the fundus is supposed to correspond to the number of weeks pregnant so 23 cm for 23weeks. From what I've read is not highly accurate but gives the Dr an idea of whether you're bigger or smaller so they can follow up for health problems or change the due date.

Same here: my doc started measuring fundal growth once she was able to feel the top (16 weeks). I was measuring a couple weeks behind at that appt but then right on track at my 20-wk appt. Maybe your doc will measure you at your next appt?
