If I get invited to a wedding where there isn't any booze, I bring a cooler in my trunk and "use the restroom" every half hour.
Baby shower? Make it every 15 minutes.
You make it an entire half hour? That's impressive.
Sorry @danabsd, this is going to hurt, but I think buying actual UGGs for children is ridiculous, it's a complete waste of money.
I always said we'd never do character clothing, DD2 has a Yo Gabba shirt (I did not buy it) and character underwear, but I'm not super opposed to character clothes.
Dude, I've come out of a public restroom after merely changing clothes and make sure to wash my hands. Not because I feel dirty or unsanitary but because I'm scared of the other people in the bathroom judging me. Stranger glares suck.
Yeah if there are other people in there, I always wash. I may be a rebel while alone & in a hurry, but I cave under that level of side-eye.
I must have some sort of hand-washing OCD because I wash my hands or sanitize them about 30 times a day. And I do the "sing Happy B-day twice in my head" when washing my hands after using the bathroom.

@lauralou3x3 changing a tampon and not washing your hands is completely unacceptable. But please, give people the benefit of the doubt! Most bathroom trips are quick, mess free & involve minimal touching of items others have touched.
Tampons? Wow. That's a word that hasn't crossed my mind since July!

I've never paid full price, nor would I. We have 3, 1 hand me down and 2 off ebay in like new condition that were less than a pair of shoes from Stride Rite.
2) I think all people over 65 should be legally required to re-take their driving test. I've almost got into 3 wrecks in the last 24 hours because of old people not looking where they're going, or making up their own rules of the road. If they don't pass then their license is revoked. I understand many old people use their car to get around, but when people's safety is at risk, they shouldn't be on the road. My DH's gran has mounted the curb and knocked stuff over twice in the last couple of years. She's 84 and shouldn't be driving.
I totally agree. And I'll add to that.
I think anyone wanting to obtain a driver's license in the US for the first time should be required to take Driver's Education classes. I was first licensed in MA, and at the time the law was that anyone under the age of 18 wanting a Driver's License had to take Driver's Ed first. Once you were 18, it wasn't required; you just needed to have your permit first (I think) and a sponsor since you had to provide the vehicle for your road test. I took Driver's Ed at 18, and took my road test with the school and in their vehicle. The road test in MA wasn't tough. It was with a State Trooper, and he had me drive on a few side roads, parallel park between no cars, and drive back to the DMV. I believed that I Driver's Ed would help me, would teach me how to drive, and how to be safe. I eventually taught my younger sister to drive (she did also take Driver's Ed but started with me on her permit) and to this day I still remember many of the tips they gave us and I practice those.
I also would not be against requiring having to take a full Driver's Ed class if you have so many moving violations within a span of time. They will suspend your license, make you take a Defensive Driving Course to get it back. But what some of these fools need is to actually learn how to drive! Learn the basics, learn the driving laws. DDC does nothing if you don't know how to drive first.

I guess another UO I have is that I don't care for UGGs on children or adults. I think they are overpriced and not very functional--the leather gets all dirty and water stained if you wear them in real winter weather!
Shoes with characters on them? Just no. That itself probably isn't really unpopular, but I'd rather pay three times as much and get plain shoes at Stride Rite. That part might be.
Chevron patterns? Kinda cute, but not the most amazing thing ever.
Characters. NO. Actually, character clothing. NO. With the exemption of a minnie mouse hoodie from Disneyland that's adorable.
Patterns I don't really mind. These are some of my favorite Beb shoes.
And she does have cheetah print Toms and Uggs. ;;)

Re: the drinking thing. I really don't think its someone's place to care about what people drink. Unless theres a problem. I don't judge people for having 1 drink or 10 and I don't want them to judge me for having a diet coke.
I don't particularly like drinking...especially after DS was born. There's few things that are worse than having a hangover and a kid. I also get the worst hangovers in the history of forever.
That being said I used to drink like a damn fish and love it, I was basically Ke$sha minus the glitter from 17-22yo.
I used to hate UGGs. Like, loathe them. Mostly because I lived in the mid-Atlantic and I much prefer flip-flops/bare feet to every other shoe option on the planet. Also because they were so trendy and seemed so unnecessary (hi, actors in LA wearing UGGs, I know your feet are sweaty in there because it's 80*).
Then, I moved to New England and I *thought* my socks were warm. My sister gave me a pair of UGGs for Christmas. And now I love them with a blazing passion. Not because I think they are cute. They are in fact quite bulky. But ohhh my are they warm. In conclusion, I would purchase UGGs at a discount price for my little girl for that reason: keeping her feet insanely warm.
And @danabsd -- your daughter is freaking adorable!
I don't really like when grown women refer to themselves as "mommies." You don't really hear of grown men referring to themselves as "daddies." (unless you're into that..wink wink)
I'm talking about when adults are talking to other adults and refer to themselves in that way.
Yes!
To add on to this, my MIL refers to her husband as "Daddy" when talking to my husband and her other children. WTF lady! It creeps me the fuck out!
Oh god...MY mom does this!! she refers to my Dad as "Daddy" when talking about him to me or my sister. She doesn't call him Daddy herself, it's only when talking to us. but I've never in my entire life called my Dad "Daddy" that i can remember. maybe as a little kid? i think it started when my little sister was born (she's 9 years younger than me). it's freakin embarassing sometimes. like she would do it in front of guys i'd bring home, and still does it in front of my husband. When she did it in front of DH i used to be like "Daddy? you mean Dad? i don't call him Daddy!" but at this point i've just given up.
I have purse sized spray sanitizer that DH bought me from work. It is made from natural ingredients and safe to use on kids' toys but kills 99% of germs including the influenza A virus and E.coli. When I go to classes, I spray my desk and chair with it and then take out my pocketbac sanitizer and use it every 20 minutes during lecture.

I carry a spray thing of lysol in ds's diaper bag and bleech/sanitizer wipes...on top of hand sanitizer. If we go to a restaurant, the high chair and table where he touches gets santized or wiped down before he sits. If we go to Wal-Mart or target, the buggy gets sprayed or wiped. I also spray everything when I go to the doctor's office with him. I spray the seat before I sit down in it. I spray the table before I sit him on it. Yeah, I might have a problem...the only problem to this entire scenario is that he is constantly sick from daycare anyway so usually I have to spray shit down after I finish using it, too, to keep other kids from getting sick.

I have never used a hand sanitizer. I also haven't died once throughout my years as an infant and an adult. I use good old fashioned soap and water on my hands when necessary and carry tissues for coughs and sneezes, just like my ancestors have for hundreds of years. It's actually no bad thing to get the odd tummy bug.
I feel insulted when somebody used hand sanitizer or spray near me or after touching something I've touched. I stood near a woman on the bus once who used a napkin to hold onto the rail. I felt like coughing in her face. Of course only dirty bitches use public transport.

Oh! and I don't think this is unpopular - but, I hate stupid people that post on TB complaining about the community and how they don't like their attitude. They should just stop coming to this forum than!
I completely agree. I really don't understand this. If you don't like the "regs" or you don't like the tone of the community, then why come here at all? Why post about it? I've shared this before, but I have been to a couple of boards that were not my style. Did I write some long diatribe to the board telling them that? No. I just stopped frequenting them.
IRL, if you meet a group of people who you don't have anything in common with, do you tell them, "Hey guys. I don't really like you. You talk about things that I think are dumb."? Of course not! You just quit hanging out with them.

Maybe I misread but I didn't think @jennish11 was talking about the regs, rather the news/lurkers that have been giving us grief about the May 14 Click.
I have a weakened immune system. I was born with it and was that kid that was sick for nearly a week at least once a month. Not only do I get sick easily, but the smallest cold to anyone else goes into full blown bronchitis and ER trips.
It's nothing personal when I apply sanitizer around others, it's that 1) I don't know who has touched, coughed or come in contact with the surface before me, 2) you might not be sick, but your kid/DH/fill in the blank could be, and you could be a carrier 3) after spending 3 hours listening to someone hacking in class, another sucking snot, and watching yet many more using hands to Pick food out of their teeth, pick their noses, cough into their hands, they're all lucky I'm not spraying my disinfectant across the whole classroom.
I also use a $$$ multiple filtration air purifyer at home to keep dust and germ particles to a minimum.
Don't get me wrong, I am a total outdoorsy, love to get down in the dirt and camp for the entire summer type of girl, but an ounce of precaution and hand sanitizer around other people saves me a $1000+ med bill each time I get sick and end up in the ER.

Wow, reading fail! Well, now you know what kind of day I've been having
I almost never use hand sanitizer, i think the stuff is evil. I wash my hands when necessary, but i'm not overly worried about it. I very rarely get sick.
Before I had my DS, I was almost never sick. Even when he had a nanny, rarely sick. Since he started daycare - we are all sick all of the time.

Why why why would you torture yourself by putting these shoes on your child? Or better yet, torture me/general public. if you are putting these shoes on your kid, then they obviously don't annoy you.

My mom tied jingle bells to my shoes when I was a toddler. It was just the two of us and she could give me more autonomy and still know where I was for her own peace of mind. Don't know if that's the logic behind these shoes, but that's where my mind went.
Apparently this makes me a douche, but I'll totally out myself as "that person" that thinks it's rude to sneak alcohol into an event that someone else planned and paid for. If they're purposely not serving alcohol, and it's really that big of a deal to you to attend someone's wedding and not have the option to drink, then don't go. I, personally, agree that weddings are more fun with a bit of booze. But it's not my wedding. I wouldn't sneak food into a party/reception that someone else was hosting and paying for just because I didn't like what they're serving. I'd just deal and then go do my own thing after.
UGG boots: I love them. I have 2 pair of boots, and a pair of slippers. I live in New England so it gets very cold. I don't wear them when it's wet out, I have rain boots and snow boots for those days. But regular dry cold days, of which there are PLENTY of in the winter, those boots are foot savers. I bought my first pair in 2011, and DH bought me another pair for Christmas this past year, and the slippers the year before. I sometimes wear them with my skinny jeans tucked in, but most of the time I wear them with my regular jeans over the boots. I don't wear them for the fashion, I wear them for the comfort. Same reason I wear a knit hat when it's cold out, even thought it messes up my hair. Now my rain boots, those double for fashion as they are Coach and they are bright red and I don't mind too much when it rains because I get to wear them.
There was another topic I had a response to, but can't recall what the topic was. So I might be back.
It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.

My sarcasm in the packing a cooler comment seems to have been missed. I have been to dry weddings many times and have 100% respected that and still managed to have a blast.
That comment was meant to be a sarcastic blow to the "you have a problem for enjoying alcohol" comment earlier.
