I don't see the appeal of stride rite shoes. Those things are crazy expensive! DS walks just fine in his $12 Payless shoes I bought him.
oh dude, there is nothing like a stide rite shoe for running toddlers.
Meh he runs fine too. Maybe he's slower without the stride rites, I dunno. But if he is then I don't mind, I can barely keep up with him now!
It's about healthy development of little feet. I find most stride rite shoes kinda u-g-l-y. We mostly wear SKR, Pediped and L&L which also promote healthy development.
I don't judge people who sanitize everything all the time (nor do I care, and it's possible I won't even notice unless they're making a major production out of it), but I don't do that except at work, where it's part of my job description to wipe the computers down at night. I feel like as long as I don't care about the germs and wash my hands whenever it makes sense to do so, I'm good. (and am willing to accept any sickness this attitude brings me.)
I have a sneaking suspicion that if I were to think about germ transmission and really care about it, then I would morph into a terrible germophobe who wouldn't be able to handle going out in public anymore. (I'm very pro-vaccination for similar reasons.)
Mine's odd: It bothers me when people complain about there moms or mother in laws. My mom passed away unexpectedly less than 2 years ago and I'd give anything to have her here sharing in the pregnancy and shopping, since I lived in another state with my LO and she only got to see her limited or on skype. I just don't think some people realize what they have until it is abruptly taken away. I also may be the only one but I have a good relationship with my MIL, she isn't my mom but we get along very well and have many of the same interests.
Washing hands at bathroom: Yes, it's a MUST. I judge and say yuck! out loud when I see someone stroll out without a sink stop. And I really am not much of a germ-a-phone at all. I am 5 second rule kinda gal.
Shoes: Hate Uggs, crocs, and Toms (so uncomfortable). I like Stride Rite because they do seem to be better fitted and comfortable. I've purchased shoes other places that became throw-aways because they were so bad.
Alcohol: You know red wine is good for you! I don't miss it too much right now because it would bring on some major retching/ acid reflux.
Character shirts: I like them right now because DD likes to wear them. Happy if she is happy.
Don't really mind them for children. Would never wear it myself.
Disneyland/world: I used to go to World every year as a kid- got sick of it for awhile. Now I am reliving my childhood vicariously through my DD through theme parks etc. We go to Disneyland frequently b/c my awesome BIL works there and gets us in for free!
Let's hope you are a shoes off home, because if not, you're basically eating off that dirty bathroom floor.

Wait, you wear Stride Rite shoes? I've been talking about my kids shoes. :-/ Also, I am pretty sure you're the only person in the world who considers Toms uncomfortable.

If this is unpopular- I don't want to be popular.
I adored my MIL. Sure we had differences in opinion, but she was a really awesome woman who I was thrilled to have in my life- and I knew her for 5years before she passed. It makes me sad every day that she never got to see either of her children get married (she passed shortly before DH and I married) and that our little Elisabeth (her first grandchild) will never know her namesake.
She was the woman who taught me how to love red shoes and walked me through making my first Thanksgiving turkey. It's hard to see other people hate on mother inlaws for being too involved- I wish mine was still around even if she would be (and believe me she would be) a little over the top and pushy.

Apparently this makes me a douche, but I'll totally out myself as "that person" that thinks it's rude to sneak alcohol into an event that someone else planned and paid for. If they're purposely not serving alcohol, and it's really that big of a deal to you to attend someone's wedding and not have the option to drink, then don't go. I, personally, agree that weddings are more fun with a bit of booze. But it's not my wedding. I wouldn't sneak food into a party/reception that someone else was hosting and paying for just because I didn't like what they're serving. I'd just deal and then go do my own thing after.
My sarcasm in the packing a cooler comment seems to have been missed. I have been to dry weddings many times and have 100% respected that and still managed to have a blast.
That comment was meant to be a sarcastic blow to the "you have a problem for enjoying alcohol" comment earlier.
I guess my sarcasm meter is off today? Sorry. I've met a fair number of people who would and do bring flasks or car stashes to weddings, so it doesn't automatically strike me as something one is obviously not being serious about. We had wine and beer only 1) because of expense and 2) because of certain family elements that cannot control themselves with hard liquor, and I felt kind of offended by grumblings about what we were offering and rumors of bringing handles to keep in the bathroom and pass around.
My parents paid for our wedding, I wasn't 21 yet so I couldn't drink and Most of the guests were church goers who didn't partake, so the parents decided to have a dry wedding.
Well my MOH being the Rockstar that she is, brought a flask and all the bridesmaids and I did a shot of scotch before the ceremony and during bathroom breaks
I remembered an actual UO today. Earrings on baby girls, and toddlers, even pre-schoolers. I feel like this is a personal decision, and one that requires the responsibility to accept the care and maintenance of said decision. I've had my ears pierced more times than I can remember, because I would take them out for sports, and forget to put them back in. But I always cared for my own piercings and I was always aware that it was my choice.
Take this with a grain of salt though, cause this bitch just DGAF about cosmetics in general. Don't dye my hair, don't get my nails did, don't do my do, and I can count the times I've "put a face on" in the last calendar year on one hand.

So you don't like earrings on little girls or you do? I don't- I think it looks tacky, but agree that it's personal preference. My mom was pretty strict though and I wasn't allowed to get my ears pierced til I was like 8 I think.

Earrings- I am absolutely against people piercing their children's ears before they can care for it themselves. I remember finally getting to pierce my ears for my 10th birthday and it was a big deal to my parents because of making sure they didn't get infected.

I don't like little girl earrings. I just don't see the point. While they do look cute, I just don't agree with it. We got nagged about DDs hair because we let it all grow out, no bangs here. Now everyone loves her long hair. To each their own.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my mother last year quite quickly and I'd give anything to have her interfering in my life right now. My DH's mum also passed 13 years ago and his step-mum is very hands off. We hardly see her. My grandmothers are both also passed and I live at the other end of the country to my aunts. As an FTM I would love to have advice from an older woman. I get they can be frustrating, but some people don't realise how lucky they are to have these resources.

This is me exactly! I really hope my DD isn't going to be into girly things because if she is, then she is going to have to teach herself how to do hair, makeup, manis/pedis because I will be useless in helping her.

I think that people who are so anti-alcohol they decline invitations to events where other people might drink have a problem. It shouldn't have an effect on your life whether or not I want a few drinks so long as I'm not driving or getting in. your face.
I wouldn't sneak booze into a booze free event but I'd for sure drink in the parking lot before going in.
I don't care who washes their hands when. We're so oversanitized as a society that our immune systems suck. Germs aren't the devil unless you have a legit medical issue that makes them horribly dangerous. The people I know who are sick most often are the ones who lysol wipe everything and carry hand sanitizer in their purse. And their car. And at their desk.
My kid picks out his own shoes and clothes at the store and at home. If he wants to wear characters, I don't give a flying fuck as long as the crap is on sale and fits properly.
I agree with you kat8805. My DHs family asked me to pierce my DDs ears as a baby since according to them, it doesn't hurt them when they are babies. For me, it's a big no. not until they can care for it & ask for it. I am also not so into cosmetics, nails & hair, I blame on having 4 older brothers & no sisters.
I get my hair and nails done but will not be peircing my little girls ears! I agree that they need to make that choice and take care of it themselves. I wasn't allowed to until I was 12? 13? Also, I have so many problems in my Kindegarten classroom with girls and heir earrings.... They fall out, they hurt, they're infected. Drives me nuts!
To add to this; I am even more against boys getting them. At any age. Ick!
UO: comfort is way down on my list of priorities for shoes. But, I'm not a purse lady, so I feel no qualms about buying expensive BAMF shoes, which are usually comfortable anyway. Except Louboutins. I think they're ug. Give me Manolo Blahniks over that mess any day.
I hate the "too young to marry" attitude so many have. Unless the two in question are 12 what's the big deal?? I was 22 when I got married. So many people said I was still a baby and that I couldn't possibly know what I wanted. I had been with my husband for 5 years. We knew each other as friends for 3 years prior to that. We each knew exactly what we were getting into and are completely happy. My parents married when my mom was 19 and they have been happily married for 26 (almost 27) years. Young people are capable of making life decisions.
Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!
Re: young marriage, I was 19, DH 21 when we got married. We have known each other since elementary school and had known we wanted I get married for a while. For us, we didn't see the point of waiting til after college, wasting money on 2 apartments etc. (we didn't live together before marriage). We both have always been mature for our age and despite many of friends thinking we were crazy, life has worked out pretty well for us so far! Bottom line, I think age is really not a good gauge of marriage readiness.
I don't really like when grown women refer to themselves as "mommies." You don't really hear of grown men referring to themselves as "daddies." (unless you're into that..wink wink)
I'm talking about when adults are talking to other adults and refer to themselves in that way.
Yes!
To add on to this, my MIL refers to her husband as "Daddy" when talking to my husband and her other children. WTF lady! It creeps me the fuck out!
I agree 100%. My MIL actually sent me and SIL (who is due the end of March) a text addressing us as "Mommies" regarding her trip her to see her new grandbabies. I was legitimately skeeved out. It was so strange because she is a great MIL and I love her dearly. I'm going to chalk it up to grandbaby fever since she's going from 0 to 2 in less than 2 months time.
I am in the same boat. MIL is in Grandbaby heaven. 0-2 in less than 2 months. Thankfully the daughter is due first.

Ditto! Except we did wait until after DH graduated from college and I had finished all but 6 credits, since we went to two different colleges and I lived in the dorms at my school. Still, we were 20 and 21 when we got married. I know a lot of 20 and 21 year olds who shouldn't be getting married, but I also know a lot of 35 year olds who aren't in a good place to get married either. It's definitely a personal decision and not really all that dependent on age.
I fully intend to paint my daughter's nails and let her straighten/curl her hair and play with makeup. Obviously when she's a bit older (not a baby!), but I don't see the harm in having that fun. I love painting my nails and playing with makeup, so why can't I share that with my daughter. I'd never go down the beauty treatment route, like waxing eyebrows etc. I'm not giving her a complex about looks. Girls just find things like nails, hair and makeup fun and I can't wait to play dress up with her. And guess what, if I have my nails done at a salon when she's about 4, then so can she.

I find Juan Pablo (The Bachelor) to be very annoying and kind of an ass! I'm really hoping both girls realize and leave him standing by himself. I also don't think he's as hot as every other girl makes him out to be.

If she gets MHs eyebrows I'll take her to get them threaded at a young age (not 4, like 11). Unibrows are not cute, ever, I don't think she needs to walk around with one any longer then she has too. andplusalso, I would rather take her to get it done professionally then have her try and do it herself and really f 'um up.

I think that's fair enough. I started plucking my eyebrows as bleaching my upper lip at about that age because I have dark hair and pale skin. I was really self conscious of it. I mean like babies and toddlers getting waxed. There was speculation that Kim kardashian was waxing her baby daughter's brows. That made me cringe.

My sweet DD has MH's unibrow.. I will be taking her at about 10 or 11 to get them threaded as well. I came home from a wedding last summer and MH in all his brilliance had taken it upon himself to SHAVE her uni.. not cool, not cool at all. it came back just slightly darker and I made him promise he would stick to electrical and leave the hair, eyebrows and whatnot to the professionals.
I would MURDER him. He stopped shaving his and started plucking it after we met. This year I stuck Tweezeran tweezers in his stocking so he would stop stealing mine. I doubt he would ever admit he owns tweezers but they're black and totes manly.

I never expected to get married that young, honestly.
I met my husband the summer before my senior year. I graduated a semester early from high school and was on my own by my 18th birthday. My husband and I started living together a few months later and were together for over 3 years before we tied the knot. We've been married almost 6 years now, together nearly 9 and while we've had a lot of growing up to do, we've been able to do it together and it's made us that much closer as time has gone by.
Mine's odd: It bothers me when people complain about there moms or mother in laws. Some people just don't have the best relationships with their parents. I personally get along fine with my mom, but my MIL drives me up the wall. I used to find it hard to understand that some in laws just suck, up until I got my MIL and learned more about my sisters in laws. Don't be quick to judge, a lot of us have backgrounds with our in laws that would probably make you change your mind about our complaints.

I find Juan Pablo (The Bachelor) to be very annoying and kind of an ass! I'm really hoping both girls realize and leave him standing by himself. I also don't think he's as hot as every other girl makes him out to be.
