Our family has had a slightly different experience with Walmart, but not totally bad. My husband is a salaried manager and he gets a decent paycheck but is expected to live and breathe Walmart. He frequently works 60 hour weeks (5, 12 hour night shifts) and because he is salaried he's "always on the clock" and doesn't get any overtime. Also, his two days off are never together so when you are working nights you never really get a full day off to enjoy.
He has a couple college degrees but political science doesn't pay much, so walmart was the winner right out of school.
It's not uncommon for him to have to stay an hour or more late. This is extra frustrating because he frequently has to "coach" associates for staying even a few minutes late or taking too short of a lunch.
Overall, it's not an awful job, he has good benefits and makes enough for me to work a minimal amount and be home with our kids, but he works his ass off (in a tie no less - you should see how quick he can destroy his dress clothes), his schedule blows and when you divide out his salary by the actual number of hours he works it's pretty depressing.
You ladies are fucking with my emotions. Should i be excited or terrified of my tits? I'm going with 'glass half full' and will pray to the porn star titty gods to bless my rack. Amen.
No matter what happens, there are always breast lifts.
This. I told DH we need to start saving up for this procedure once I'm done with kids.
So would this in some ways be considered as a 'push present'?
Hahah omg. I would never think of it that way. It's been something I've always said due to being blessed with large breast since 14.
Ok so I need to put my 2 cents in here ... Walmart is paying for this baby inside me Both my boyfriend and I work for the company ... I have great insurance that even allows me to carry my daughter until she's 26 and my boyfriend and his kids !!
We get quarterly profit sharing included on our checks holiday pay, 401k matching and options to buy stock on the company ...
I make more at Walmart as a hourly manager in 3 years than I did as a manager at JCPenneys in a lot more ( now there is a company that didn't treat employees right!)
And for the record those low life redneck Gross shoppers pay my bills and I thank them for that every day by giving them the best customer service I can !!!
Yes sometimes we don't have enough registers open but we also have a lot of call in's and don't have the manpower to open enough for the business at hand ... I have waited at Target , Burger King , Belk( they are terrible to find a sales clerk ) and a slew of other places that are in the service industry ... How about a half and hour or more wait in your favorite restaurant to get a table ... Should they get more wait staff ??
Rant over for now .. I know I won't change anyone's mind but people of Walmart are fun to watch and they treat me pretty Damn Good!!!
That's good to hear! I think a lot of people's negative perceptions are based off of general news stories relating to things like a very low glass ceiling for women, where some of the products are sourced, etc.
Sorta related UO: I can't get on board with sites like people of Walmart. The thought of posting someone's pic online without any sort of effort to remove identifying features just to laugh at them squicks me out.
Me personally it has to do in part with the negative publicity but also personal experience. My moms cousin who after a long career as a mechanic had some unfortunate events and ended work the night shift at Walmart. After 2 years they still continued to give him just under the amount of hours he needed for benefits. He left for Walgreens and got benefits after 3 months.
Every persons story is different.
It still didn't stop me from running into that same Walmart for diapers on Thanksgiving morning because it was the only thing open. So there's that.
I absolutely agree. And I remind him of that frequently when he bitches about his job.
The only difference I see is that he's not just putting in 60 hours a week because that what it takes to get the job done, he's actually scheduled for 60 hours a week.
My beef isn't with the amount of hours he works, just with the way they are scheduled.
I don't answer unknown numbers unless I am expecting a call from somewhere or someone not saved in my phone. However I will answer the number or even return the call if I am left with a voicemail and name. I absolutely hate when some random number calls me 3 times a day and leaves so message for me!!!!! Get the hint!!!!!!!
I don't like to see pictures of babies with pacifiers in their mouths. One picture, whatever, every picture, ugh. What does your child really look like? I can't tell with that thing constantly in their mouth. Take it out for a cute pic!
Little babies I don't mind. You try pulling a one month olds binky to get a cute picture. Ha, screaming is not cute. Or is it?
Older kids. Take that shit away. Not just for pictures, all the time. But ESPECIALLY for pictures. That is one cute crying baby!! Adorable. If they are having that kind of moment for the pic, leave it in. But if that's what they do EVERY SINGLE time it's taken out and that's why every single pic has a pacifier, YIKES!
I also agree with others, the older the baby/kid gets, the less attractive it is. ESPECIALLY when it's in every single pic!! Baby smiles are so cute and warming...
This may upset BF moms but I think it crazy to have a four year old and a two year old still breast feeding off the same mom. My DH's cousin leaves her boobs hanging out there during family parties while her kids run up to her for a snack. It's absolutely ridiculous and all of us are tierd of seeing her tits. If your child is in pre school s/he should not be drinking directly from you!
HA! I can't get this picture out of my head now. I hope this doesn't upset any BF moms, this is crazy!
If people don't want to see me nursing that can just not look.
Except this is real life and if you get your tits out in front of other people, you can't really take that attitude. It won't happen and it's arrogant to assume it.
Tell me what you think I should do then.
I'm not going to tell you what to do, so you don't have to be so sensitive. I just find it arrogant when people think its ok to make other people feel awkward, uncomfortable or inadequate because they want to show what a good mother they are.
And IMO, extended breast feeding beyond 18mths is not for the benefit of the baby. It's for the mother and her inability to let her child grow up.
Are you fucking kidding me? Since you are the same woman who said only self-centered women get doulas because they feel like they are the only woman in the world to give birth and should instead put their big girl panties on, I am just going to assume you have a lot of learning to do about how this shit works. Have your opinions on an issue, but don't pretend to understand the motives behind other people's choices...because you are so off-base it's unreal.
It's true that being a FTM doesn't automatically make your opinions invalid, but your incredibly ignorant outlook does.
As a shopper who hasn't ever worked at a Walmart, I think it's great mostly because it's cheap and has just about anything. It's good for my family because we're frugal, and it's good for poor people (or anyone who wants their dollars to stretch) so they can get more stuff with the money they have. Stores like Whole Foods seem silly to me. As someone who is unconvinced that organic is better, it just doesn't make sense to pay so much more for food.
@sisterjaner - whole foods is a marketing ploy. They sell the same ish kroger and Walmart do, just packaged differently. Therewas a big expose about this on 20/20 or 60 minutes or one of those other shows.

Ohh really! I don't shop there, but whenever I do have to go there the place pisses me off just in general.
I shop at Fred Meyer for little things. Mainly because it is 6 blocks from my house. And I shop at Costco for big things.
Sorry to burst the bubbles for all the FTM's, but my boobs NEVER looked like porn star boobs even when they were engorged with milk. I think it requires an implant to get that look...or really good genes.
I haven't really seen a lot of porn boobs, but from my limited exposure I agree. The nipple parts get HUGE and gross. Oh and they leak and squirt. Not cute.
My nurse told me they may squirt during orgasm....but not to tell my husband, just to let it come as some shocking new feature.

I disagree to a certain extent. There are many many many things you can get at Wholefoods that you can't get anywhere else. Mainly top 8 free stuff and stuff that is truly free of preservatives. Asher has PID and is allergic to everything ( I know I haven't talked a lot about this yet on this board) But he is very medically fragile and we've poured for endless hours over indegredient lists, doing background research on companies, and comparing stores/products and whatnots. We don't buy everything at Whole Foods, but there is a whole mess of stuff we just cannot get anywhere else.

Very true for people that have certain dietary requirements. One of our family friends has really bad celiac disease, and the gluten-free section of Whole Foods is a (very expensive) life saver for them. For the general stuff, though, I just don't see the value. Maybe my palette isn't refined enough to tell the difference between $20 olive oil and $5 olive oil. I do like the Central Market store brand organic line, though. I'm with whoever said they buy the most at Costco and then just supplement fresh produce from the grocery store.

Yes that is what I'm referring to, the specialty stuff. We'd be fucked without a wholefoods, literally Asher would live on just medical food. I also have celiac disease and rely on WFs for that. But I do buy organics other places, we have a Wegmans....LOVE, trader Joe's, and even Costco for that. We have to buy all organic because Asher has severe allergies to preservatives and pesticides...lovely...all in addition to his allergies to Milk, Beef, Soy, Wheat, Sulfates, Peanuts, Treenuts, and food dyes. Seriously, we'd die without WF.
I also have to add that we grow our own veggies. We actually poured a ton of research when we bought our house into Hydroponic gardens and have a full grow room in our basement (For FOOOD!) lol. It has been a learning curve, but we have veggies year round.
We also have a contract with a local free range organic turkey farm that keeps aside turkeys for us that they just feed non wheat and soy feed...that is how reactive our son is.
So we aren't stuck up going to stores just for the name...we really aren't. We do Whole foods purely out of need and if there was another option, we'd know it.

See, that makes perfect sense to me. For you and especially your son, the food is better for you, so it's really good that it's available. I am seriously thankful we live now, so people can have very particular diets (vegan or gluten free or organic for fun or for medical reasons or both) and still eat really well instead of eating what's there because that's all there is and being sick all the time since there are no other choices. Modern medicine and technology are marvelous.
Basically, I just don't understand the people who (as a total generalization) drive a Prius and buy carbon footprint offset things and go gluten free for fun instead of necessity and shop at Whole Foods, and feel cool about themselves for doing that and feel like Walmart is the devil and people who shop there are gross. I don't understand pretentious grocery shopping as a modern thing.
To a certain extent I don't mind the GF fad because it is making companies do more research and offer more products at an affordable price. But I do mind that since this is happening a lot of GF products now have BHT in them, which my son cannot have
@ABCColeslaw I just found out I have latent celiac disease. I thought I had full blown celiac (diagnosed via blood test 3 years ago) but even after the gluten challenge, they found zero intestinal damage on the endoscopy + biopsy. All of my blood levels were fine, no signs of malabsorption. So I have not been able to get an official diagnosis (other than a secondary dx of IBS-C). And while I feel shitty if I eat gluten, it's not nearly as bad as what full blown celiacs experience. I just get tired & bloated, with occasional joint pain. And if I have trace amounts I can't even tell, whereas some people can't even share cookware without getting sick. I know my diet has been full of trace gluten for the past few years because I am not careful about cross contamination. I kept wondering why it didn't effect me.
So more research lead me to there being something called latent celiac: positive serology, negative biopsy. I guess the blood tests are getting so good at detecting the antibodies, they're finding people who haven't had the disease long enough to cause any damage. They even say these people can continue eating gluten, and just monitor for progression. After 3 years of being gluten free, finding this out really made my determination waver. I have decided to resume a "low" gluten diet (like I said, it does seem to make me feel tired) and if I need to stop gluten in the future, I will.
Sorry for the off topic novel but since you seem so knowledgeable about these things, thought I'd share & see if you have heard of this latent thing.
I know not everything is the same at WF, but some of the stuff is the same. I don't know about everywhere, but at my local HEB (huge, huge store even with cooking demonstrations) you can get all sorts of organic stuff. They have an entire section of the store donated to it.

It is interesting for sure. This all started for me when I was pregnant with my son. After I had him I developed severe IBS-D....like house bound for months, afraid to get in the car for more than 10 minutes, everything I ate just came out in a painful way. It was terrible, it still is. They did upper and lower endoscopies and determined that I have full blown celiac and eosinophilic esophogus....which I passed onto my son It sucks. I have to be super careful. And when I am at work? I can't eat for the entire day. I am literally shaking in the car on the way home from low blood sugar. I'm on a couple different meds to help, but they only kind of help. I end up eating pretty much the brat (GF version) just to survive. Since being pregnant with MS, all bets are off...I can't eat anything I'm pretty sure I'm taking in gluten because the IBS-D has come back AND I'm always tired and in pain. But dude I am living on protein bars and they have a little bit of gluten or some cross contaimination in them.
@ABCColeslaw oh man, just googled eosinophilic esophogus, sounds rough . The digestive disorders seem to come in groupings, most people with celiac also have IBS, etc. My mom has celiac (undiagnosed, she refuses to go to the doctor or change her diet, but she has had digestive issues forever and she's a 1st degree relative so when I was diagnosed it made a whole lot of sense) and she got osteoporosis at age 50! They don't even start screening for that until age 60.
This is probably a dumb question but can you tolerate juice at work? Or do even liquids cause stomach upset?

I literally eat GF rice cakes at work just to get me to the end of the day. No joke. I couldn't do that pregnant so it is a damn good thing I'm on leave this year.
If you're sick STAY THE FUCK HOME. I had a coworker who apparently came in all last week coughing and hacking over everything (she doesn't cover her mouth btw) and now, another coworker who had the misfortune to work with this sick selfish piece of shit, is in the hospital due to how severely the sickness affected her.
Good job you fucking bitch. I hope you coming in last week was worth it.
*end rant*
I'm on the verge of losing my job because of this right now. Mind you, today would only be the second shift I have missed. This is not a pregnancy related, non contagious sickness. If y'all want this flu, you crazy. I'm at the point where I really could careless what they say.
My husband is the produce receiver and prep for the WF in our area. While I agree there is much at the store that is way overpriced, when it comes to organic vegetables, I either hit the farmers' market or WF, because Kroger and Meijer in our area do not follow processing standards for their organics. (my DH has to wear two pairs of gloves when handling organic produce and the organic cannot be near or touch the conventional products because it's a $5,000 to $10,000 fine for contamination).
Also, WF has done amazing projects with the Detroit Metro area by helping plant local food gardens in the city and fund meals for the underprivileged. They hold free kids workshops during the holidays and even have community classes upstairs to help get people involved in bringing a healthier, more connected vibe to the city. Because they are trying to bring nutrition to the inner city, the food prices are lower than other WF stores in the county.
And while I agree that the company tends to have some expensive products, and I still do much of my shopping at the Meijer near my home, I love that they work with local farmers and companies. My favorite of which, are the Amish farmers who bring my husband the largest, most delicious organic cauliflowers I have ever eaten!
Sorry for the long spiel, but I had similar opinions as PP about WF, but the majority of those have changed since I've seen firsthand what a great company they can be not only for the community but for employees as well. (which could easily be it's own standalone post on here)
And I'm not sure if it's a completely UO, but I cannot stand the pregnancy pics where the mother is completely topless and just barely covering her tatas with her hands, the baby's name in blocks, or worse, DH. IMO, it Is tacky and a little creepy. I would not want it hanging in plain view in my house and I would not pose topless for a photographer even if I had the ideal body for it.
