Ok, I'll continue to indulge the blood thirsty drama hounds because its Saturday and the board is usually slow.
What would it have accomplished to have the entire board flame her to hell and back? Seriously, I want to hear your thoughts on this. What good would it have done to just repeat that hitting a 5 month old is wrong or quoting what someone else wrote and stating "This."
I'm assuming I'm just going to get snark and Gifs thrown at me but ah, what the hell? Enlighten please. I'm dying to know your thoughts and feelers
The offense in question (hitting a 5 mo old) is outrageously disgusting. What feels worse and drives the point home more than this is a universally awful act?
A) 2-3 posters make (relatively) mild statements that this is not a wise choice
5+ pages of flaming happen?
---------------- Many posters have said that they thought she was referring to an older child with her original post. But anyway, I think if the OP had tried to defend her husband's action after she started getting some flames, that would have been different and I'm sure the flames would have been coming thick and fast. But she didn't. She seemed contrite in her follow up response. As the others have asked, what good would it have done to keep flaming her to hell at that point? She got the message with the minor flaming she got.
And FTR, I personally abhor spanking at ANY age and am offended that because I was having a crazy day at work and wasn't flaming an already contrite regular poster, that it was inferred that I condone corporal punishment.
Edited as posted before I meant to and to fix quote fail
Whoot whoot! Champagne all around (except for the preggos from a14 of course haha you can't have booze)!!111!!!
Whatevs. I drank half a bottle a day and my baby is fine!!11!!!!111
So if I understand correctly now we have to flame you for 5+ pages for something that you've already done and can't take back. Let's go!!!eleventyeleven!!!11!!
I am so late to this. I could not stay long when I quoted laxminavkar stating it was wrong and why so I said I agree that it is just wrong and that I will comment later. I expected to come back and write out a proper response about why it was horrible. I did not end up back at this post until recently and I wasn't sure if I would write out what I was going to say. I wrote this instead.
I have read the thread posted on Parenting about this thread and I read this thread over again. I do understand why people would be annoyed because our reaction wasn't negative enough but I obviously don't think everyone on this board is stupid or fine with spanking a baby. I do think we should have come down harder and been more horrified with the situation and the fact that she was ok with it. I don't think running the person off the boards would help.(although it might) I would hope she would see the negative responses to her post and realize there is something wrong with her husband's actions and her own reaction and hopefully stop anything like that from happening again. Probably overly optimistic.
I do not agree with spanking an older child, I think it is absolutely disgusting to put a hand on baby. In real life I would have called Children's Aid right away.
Woo-hoo guise, we made it on the Parenting board! And we're the most despicable group of moms on 2013!!!! *eye roll*
I love how people think the Bump fucking matters. Like, oh my gawd, she didn't get flamed enough... Who fucking cares. I think it was clearly stated, maybe not with enough venom for some of you, but stated that what her H did was wrong, and I truly think she knows that. Many of us "seconded" those who said it was wrong. But to honestly think that the fact we didn't flip the fuck out makes us bad moms and makes you feel bad for our children????? That's ridiculous.
Again, it's the Bump. Who gives a fuck? Who knows if it really even happened. If this was a friend IRL, obviously I would have a lot to say and do in regards to the actions. But it's the internet, and so we get judged by our lack of flipping the fuck out... Whatever. I'm not the internet Police.
Time to go take care of my IRL kid, not ones on the internet.

Seriously! I love how they had so much shit to say about our lack of flaming, but not one of them actually flamed tarynleann. Moving on with my Saturday......
We discussed it and, We're all pretty full from breakfast. Would you mind if we just had one of the dicks or maybe a handful of dicks.. A full bag just seems unrealistic.

September Siggy Challenge: What I Sing in the Shower: Little Mermaid "Part Of That World"
Holy shit at spanking a 5 month old. Babies don't have the cognitive ability to be manipulative or "bad" or understand punishment. That is messed up in a major major way no matter how hard or soft it was.
So for me it isn't the intensity with which you hit a child cause my momma used to spank us and it never hurt, but it was effective nonetheless. It's the fact that you were using physical punishment to discipline a 5 month old that is giving me the creeps. Call me judgey and flame the crap out of me but can a 5 month old really understand that you are hurting them to teach them a lesson. Do they have that logic to understand that they did something wrong? Can a five month old do something wrong? I mean other than pull your hair or use your nipple as a teething toy and both of those don't warrant a smack. But then I don't smack my dog and she shits on my bed if we let her upstairs so maybe I'm a bad disciplinarian.
I agree with everyone who disagrees with punishing a 5 month old. It's just not right. I had to comment, and will be back to comment further.
So explain to me how this makes or board supportive of spanking?
Oooooh well why didn't they just say that? Thanks Shank for explaining it to me. This whole thread got out of control and people were calling me stupid and everyone was essentially agreeing on the original point but arguing anyways and the whole time I was like
Eta: I also didn't like that I was being made out like a child abuser because my post against what she had done wasn't "angry" enough. Of course I was disturbed but I also thought other people were better expressing what I was thinking.
Hahaha what's hilarious about all of this "Get out of here, A14!" nonsense is no one from A14 even commented until @mrscrcalli and @jellysparkles on this last page. Reading tickers is hard. That said, the Parenting folks that crashed your party were totally right.
We discussed it and, We're all pretty full from breakfast. Would you mind if we just had one of the dicks or maybe a handful of dicks.. A full bag just seems unrealistic.
-A14 :x
Also... an A14 had an important question - are the dicks circumcised?
Flagged for abuse? We were the ones told to suck a bag of dicks.
Hahaha only THEY'RE allowed to say the dicks, @jellysparkles! God!
Hey @eroplane the flag button is not a dislike button ::insert name that violates TOU here::
Please to explain why the eff you keep flagging me?
Because you and everyone else that I flagged felt it was needed to swear, curse and generally act like savages.
If you find the topic so shocking, say so. There is no need to act the way you and several others did.
Just because it's an Internet forum doesn't mean you can toss common sense and manners out the window. Everyone acts fierce behind their keyboards. Grow up and stop acting like children.

Flags are for posts that violate the TOU. So direct attacks and spam and so on. Cursing isn't against the TOU.
