@britters314 I liked Nurture by Erica Cohen and the mama natural book was pretty good, I don't like everything Genevieve has to say but overall I thought it was helpful and filled a gap in the pregnancy book scene.
My first birth was a c section. I’m wondering about VBAC this time? Does anyone have experiences they can share? My first was a traumatic induction and I really don’t want to go through that again. Just not sure whether to even try VBAC or just schedule this time. I don’t want to go through all that just to end in c section again when totally exhausted in every way.
Hoping for a VBAC too. First was emergent after fully going through labor to full 10cm. I’d love to hear others experiences as well. Like you, I’d hate to have a repeat emergency C-section.
I travelled at 8 weeks and I recommend ginger sweets to help with nausea. The bumpy landing turned my stomach. Other than than, pick a seat you'll be comfortable in and make sure you get up and stretch/move around.
Anyone know why it’s recommended to avoid spicy food during the first trimester? Is it just because of heartburn? I’ve been eating spicy food without any heartburn issues, but I want to make sure it doesn’t actually hurt the baby.
@britters314 I'm pretty sure it's because of the heartburn, and it can make morning sickness worse. Also cause digestive problems. But it won't hurt baby. 😊 I just got done eating spicy pork rinds. 😂
Has anyone done the mail in SneakPeek brand blood test to check the sex of baby ahead of time? My family all swear by it, and the website says it can detect it as early as 6 weeks. Just wondering if anyone has done it before whether it was accurate or not?!
Thoughts on zofran? I’ve been taking it intermittently for a few weeks now. My nausea is so bad, and I get cyclic vomiting spells. Some of my docs are wary of it/ but all the new studies I’ve found say it’s a very minimal risk.
No thoughts on zofran - have you tried upping your magnesium? It can help with a ton of pregnancy related things! Might be a safer more baby friendly alternative. Either way you decide to go, praying to get to feeling better soon mama. 🩷
@madiirosee I took zofran and B6 religiously my first trimester with my last pregnancy. I was losing weight my morning sickness was so bad.
Magnesium and B6 is a good one to look into. Try to eat small things, constantly so your tummy isn't empty. It helps. (I know it's so hard) Especially when you first wake up, try to eat something. Even if it's just a granola bar, or graham crackers or two.
If the morning sickness is really bad, let your midwife/ OB know. They can help you with different things to do, or take. I hope you feel better!!! 💜💜💜
Hey y’all so my job requires its employees to get the flu vaccine by the end of the month. I’m a little nervous to get it. I do get it every year but I’m scared now with being pregnant. Have any of y’all gotten it yet for this season and if not why did you choose not to?
@lemonandtea yeah that's a hard no for me. I'm not anti vaccine by any stretch of the imagination but I don't get any shots during pregnancy and especially not a flu shot. Surely your job can't force you to do something you're not comfortable with like that
@lemonandtea For the flu shot, they give you the inactivated version if you are pregnant. So there is no live virus and it won’t do any harm to the baby. I got my flu shot right before getting pregnant and they gave me the inactivated one because I said I was planning to get pregnant. I had no side effects from it.
I got flu and covid vaccine. Flu in particular was recommended by my doctor! Also got both during my previous pregnancy. It helps protect you and the baby as having actual flu while pregnant can increase miscarriage risk.
Got my flu shot and COVID vaccine! At the end of the day, I also have to take care of me, and I’d rather have everything I need to combat a sickness and protect me and baby vs go without.
@knottie5a0c0d03299175d8 yes I came across that one! Also there’s the VBACfacts podcast that just started, VBAC Babes, and Made for Birth podcast. I haven’t listened to all of them but even just hearing others stories is inspiring to me.
Hey everyone!! Congrats on all the beautiful babies to come! I am a first time mom and curious, what week is everyone planning to announce their pregnancy? I have heard 12 is the week most do it, but just want to be cautious!
I told my mom right away but plan to tell in-laws at week ten. I’m not sure about the right time.. but I’m really excited and going with my gut and that feels right!
@knottie7ed4824d0f301ea6 With my first I was more cautious and told just close family around 8 or 9 weeks, then the rest after I was 12 wks. With this second, I ended up telling our parents around the same time and slowly told our siblings. I waited to tell everyone else after I had my first appt and an ultrasound just to make sure everything was ok. So ended up being 10ish wks. But just go with what you feel best! I don’t think there’s a right or wrong time!

I told some people right away because they knew we were doing embryo adoption and an embryo transfer. But we are announcing to the rest of our friends and family in our Christmas card, so I’ll be about 12 or so weeks when we send that out.
@lemonandtea I got mine at 7w. Covid and flu. I back science and would rather not be extremely sick from either. I think that’s more of a threat IMO. But at the end of the day it’s your choice, and I can understand if you are wary! Especially if you’ve had any previous losses etc. I got really sick with rsv before I miscarried my last pregnancy and I can’t help but wonder if that contributed to it. I’d rather not wonder I guess and risk a high fever which is bad for the baby, dehydration etc.
@britters314 If you're looking for great pregnancy book recommendations, I highly suggest "What to Expect When You're Expecting" by Heidi Murkoff. It's a classic that covers everything from prenatal care to baby development week by week. Another excellent choice is "The Mama Natural Week-by-Week Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth" by Genevieve Howland, which offers a holistic approach and practical advice. Both books provide valuable insights that can help you feel more informed and confident during your pregnancy journey. You won't regret checking them out!
I got mine when I was 6 weeks pregnant (I'm 13 now). I ended up getting the flu less than two weeks later and thankfully my symptoms weren't horrible. I'm so glad I got it!! My doctor recommended it and said it was safe at any point in pregnancy. Getting the flu can be scary during pregnancy.
Anyone still suffering with morning sickness? I’ll be 14 weeks tomorrow and I feel like my nausea stepped it up again. This is baby #2, I am taking Benadryl, zofran, and B6. I’m having my husband get Pepcid right now which I know has magnesium in it, but too much magnesium gives me a horrible headache… this is definitely worse than my first… by a LOT. If I don’t see improvement with the Pepcid I plan on calling my OB. I’ve lost almost 15lbs (don’t get me wrong I have PCOS and those 15lbs didn’t need to be there). Everything makes me gag, I don’t have a want for anything, today I snacked fairly okay, and after a couple hours of not, I vomited up bile. I’m basically a vegetable chasing a toddler
Update… my wonderful husband I think figured out why I feel awful… I’m 99% positive I’m low on iron, or possibly anemic! I have 8/10 symptoms of pregnancy anemia… so I’m going to be eating iron rich foods (besides red meat because I’ll probably throw it up. I’ll attempt if I feel better from more iron cause I miss it terribly) the next few days.
Hey are there any single parents or LGBTQ parents in this birth month group? I'm doing this as a single queer person and would love to connect with people who are having similar experiences
@buckaroo1622 have they not checked your iron levels yet? Maybe ask them too? Even if they already have. I know iron supplements can make morning sickness worse. Sending you positive vibes!
Re: The great big questions thread
Not really a pregnancy book but I was recommended to read a book called Moms on Call. They said it was a life saver!
