Thanks for the advice, all! Yeah, definitely NOT trying to game the system—if I have it I want to know!—but I’ve had friends who got a false positive, and I really want to avoid that. My test is at 8am, so I guess I’ll get up early, have some protein and hope for the best!
@krysnicole1022 I can’t believe that after two prior GD pregnancies they weren’t testing you earlier on. Just scientifically knowing you’re more prone if you’ve had it in the past seems like a logical enough reason to have your doctors monitor you asap. Sometimes the healthcare system is so wild, I have already learned so much about trusting your own instinct. Good for you for tracking it early and staying on track! That’s the right thing for you & the baby.
@mcclanna I met with endocrinologists the last two times and he said it's not a matter of IF but when. It can develop after the cut off for the test. The sad thing is that most OBGYNs just aren't qualified to treat and manage GDM. They just have a general guideline they follow. I'm thrilled so many more places are referring out their diabetes education.
Second pregnancy. Last time failed my glucose 1 hour. Barely passed 3 hour a few years ago. This year I saw my results in my portal about 24h after. Saw they were very high (higher than 2 years ago) and realized I only had 1 day off work before the next 3 weeks are totally booked (my job has a “back to school rush”)
I called them and spoke to an MA and basically asked is there any way if indicated I could schedule my 3 hour glucose on one of the next two AMs. She “went to check with the doctor” and when I said I was still fasting I was instructed to come in same day.
It’s been several days. No results. I called and the one staff member says they don’t see results for me at all and that a doc would call me back “soon”. I’m worried they drew all that blood and no one ordered my test when they just had me come in.
would you repeat? 3 hour plus 4 blood draws? I’m not even sure what options they’re going to give me. I’m just so pissed off. And I want to blow it off but I have a super strong family hx
This happened to my friend and it turned out she did have GD and it went untreated for weeks. I'll spare the rest of the details (they both ended up healthy tho) but I was pissed and we filed complaints. That doctor is no longer allowed to practice medicine. Test results cannot slip through the cracks. The 3 hour test is not only a huge pain in the ass but it's very important to get those results. I'm not saying I would necessarily do it again but I would just start managing and tracking your own sugars. I hope you get good news and test results soon.
I am taking issue with the Bumps “baby is this size” chart- how at like 22 weeks was the baby a head a cabbage and at 30 weeks zucchini- what zucchini is bigger than cabbage- the math isn’t working! I protest!
@relizabethp it is super random, isn’t it 😂 it seems like they go by length, but sometimes the vegetable is super skinny (e.g, celery) and sometimes it’s super round (cabbage).
Man, I have seen some monster zucchinis though. Our neighbor gave us this one a couple years ago that was as big as a chihuahua.
Baby's movements are now starting to hurt me. Is that happening with anyone else? I think sometimes it hangs out diagonally which really pushes by my right ribs. I can gently push on my belly a little and sometimes baby will reposition in a way that hurts less but I imagine this will get worse as baby gets bigger and stronger.
@ferret, yes sometimes a sudden sharp kick in the ribs makes me gasp, and I push him back, lol. I've read some people actually get cracked ribs from their baby's kicks!
I've had friends get cracked or bruised ribs from baby kicks. It's crazy. Just last night I had finally fallen asleep when BAM! Such a huge sharp kick woke me up. Sigh. Usually I can sleep through them or they just slightly wake me up and I fall back to sleep but this kick was hard.
That's good to know, thanks all. Sorry you all had painful kicks too, but I'm glad I'm not alone! It feels more like headbutting against my ribs and kicking towards my pelvis so I think baby is still in the wrong position. Maybe that's why he/she's being weird and diagonal, trying to get into a new position. 😂
@ferret22 I feel you. My first was breech and decided his head was grinding my right ribs for the whole 3rd trimester and man was it ever uncomfortable. Plus since he was breech he made it a point to kick my bladder many times, can't say I was very fond of that haha. This one is head down and although extremely active compared to my first it has been pretty manageable so far. Hoping it stays this way!
@jilliboo from my extensive googling when I didn’t feel him all day on Saturday (when I was halfway across the country), yes. Any movement counts, except for hiccups (which I don’t even know how to distinguish but that’s what I read)
The best way I can describe hiccups is that they're a repetitive little "bump" in the same spot every few seconds at about the same interval over and over. I can even see the little movement on the outside at this stage
Does anybody else have Inthrapatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy?
I’m a ftm and my doctor is concerned that I have this. She did a liver blood test but I still havnt gotten results yet. What are things that help this condition or help relive it? I’ve heard for most people the itching doesn’t go away but I don’t want not enough nutrients going to the baby. Is there like a diet or foods that’s recommended when you have this condition? I do believe I have it because i get itchy with no rashes or irritation; especially on the palms of my feet. Also two family members have had the same thing during their pregnancy’s.
Ended up at l&d this morning for decreased fetal movement. Lil man looked great on monitor and dr said he looked fine, and most likely is just running out of space. 32 weeks tomorrow, anyone have advice?
@jilliboo Around 32w I also started feeling less movement, or at least different kind of movement than what I'd gotten used to. She looked great on the ultrasound and no other issues--my ob mentioned the same thing about running out of space so things feel less pronounced. The last week or so I've tried to be more tuned in to when I feel her throughout the day; so once an hour or so I'll just take a few minutes and focus to try and get used to the new feelings. Not necessarily any advice, just wanted to let you know you're not alone
@fichey thank you! My anxiety has been atrocious because of a previous loss. It’s also my bday tomorrow, and I would hate for anything to happen on my birthday.
@ferret22 I feel you there. I’ve had my baby kick me so hard in my hip I screamed. And sometimes I feel him really low in my pelvis so I literally have to hold my belly up with my hand.
Hi everyone! Im 33 weeks and I swear my belly has already dropped! Anyone else feeling like this? I feel like I didn’t drop with DS till I got closer to his due date.
I’m a wimp and have been wearing a support band for a few weeks now. Baby is head down, and definitely in my pelvis, but don’t feel like he’s dropped yet. I fee like I’ve carried all of my babies low, but my torso is so short that I get the joys of the low feeling and having them in my ribs at the same time. Woohoo!
How is everyone doing with working a full time job? The last few weeks have felt brutal to me with the lack of sleep and general discomfort of the large belly and just feeling tired and a little mentally impaired all the time. I work from home and am barely scraping by and my bosses are kindly not saying anything to me about my decreased productivity but instead just put extra people on my projects. That makes me feel bad though, like people who already have full plates are stepping in to cover things that I’m not getting done fast enough where before I would be the person ahead. I feel Iike I can barely make it through an 8 hour day, even though I’m probably only as productive as if I worked 4 hours right now; but then I just don’t have the energy to pull overtime to make up for it. I feel like my life force has left my body. I don’t remember other pregnant coworkers seeming to have the diminished capacity that I feel internally?
@magic_lentil I am struggling at work. I work from home too, which I’m glad about with all the snacking and bathroom breaks I need. My pregnancy brain is awful though and it’s hard to get through a full day. You’re definitely not alone. I remember the third trimester being hard with my previous pregnancies too.
You are not alone. I WFH as well, but definitely have seen my productivity go dooowwwn. My ability to focus is much more limited..and I kid you not, I just went to put my feet up in my adjustable bed bc they were swelling and I accidentally fell asleep. I was sitting upright in bed with the lights on LOL. Even missed a meeting. I think it's important to remember there are people around you that are on your team and it's okay to rely on them. You're not being lazy, your body is being pushed to the max!
Oh yeah both the motivation and the energy to be productive at work has tanked. As of this week I'm needing to take midday naps again like in the first trimester.
I work from home also, and have found my biggest struggle right now to be my patience. I’m so irritable, and I’m fairly certain I’m taking it out on some people that I work with. And then feeling overwhelmed about being out for 12 weeks, and people not being able to fully cover for me because I’ve been the only one at my company doing my job for the past 7+ years.
How off can growth US be actually? Last baby was 8lbs 4 oz at 41 weeks. I went for 32 week growth scan and every measurement was >99th%ile and my OB recommended induction at 39 instead of 41+ like I did last time. I assumed the last was larger bc of post dates but I never measured this high percentile-wise. I’m small myself and freaking out a little.
Now I know why I look like I have a giant belly for only 32 weeks.
What are they predicting will be the size of the baby? My smallest baby was 8lbs 13 oz and no one discussed my second coming early or induction even though my first was born late. My second was born late also. Unless you're in danger or the baby is there is no real reason to induce unless you want to. A lot of first babies are late. My second was only a couple of days past her due date. And a growth ultrasound can be way off. I've had friends have "huge baby" predictions and they end up with a seven pound average sized baby. Go with what feels right to you. Currently they are predicting this guy will be around 9 lbs at 40 weeks. He's measuring several weeks ahead in length. My last baby was 10+ lbs. I'll take 9lbs or less.
@22ksi2 At my 30 week MFM u/s my baby was measuring 11 days ahead and in the 90 percentile. I am also HUGE everyone thinks i am in the final days of my pregnancy because of how large my belly is. My last baby was 6 lbs at 39 weeks. I am very small and the drs were surprised by my son’s size, they even had me switch to eating a gestational diabetic diet (even though I don’t have gd) to curve his growth. They also set my C-section date for 37 weeks and told me to expect for it to change one more time and possible bed rest. However, i do have a medical need that a larger baby could exacerbate. So I would maybe just ask them why they want to induce early to get all information and then make your decision based upon what you are comfortable with . Personally i am so tired and large i am ok with going early, lol.
Any second time moms OBSESSED with making your kids match - cause i am spending a small fortune on finding outfits for my son and daughter that match ! Like i got them matching pjs for Halloween and Christmas. Got them matching Halloween costumes (they are both ice dragons). I am also finding normal outfits that match- look how cute though!
