@ashley35209 I have an anterior placenta and I have not felt any movements - not that I can distinguish as movements anyway. I'm 19 weeks tomorrow. Thought I let you know that you have company!
@ashley35209 I am anterior placenta and didn’t start feeling daily movement till I was 21 weeks. The change was sudden - before that I only felt something slight like once every few days. Now starting week 22 and I can feel kicks through the placenta I think! Most of the movements though are internal like she is digging around with her hands into my bladder.
@ashley35209 yup anterior placenta here too. Am 21+2 I feel movements at night in bed when I lay on my side. Have been feeling waves in my tummy since 19 weeks. His swimming and turning makes me feel kinda sea-sick that’s how I know he’s on the move. No movement through the belly for me or hubby to feel yet though. I hope it happens in the next few weeks! That’s what my ultrasound doctor said to expect at the anatomy scan yesterday. I am sure you will start to feel the movements soon:)
I’m not sure if I’m bummed out that it’ll take so long to feel baby or not. I figure I could be kept awake odd hours of the day. Still, 22-28 weeks sounds like a LONG TIME (I’ll be 19w on Tuesday) but at least I have the anatomy scan on the 13th. UGH!
@pangolindrome the anatomy scan was SUPER reassuring for me - baby was active as hell, even if I can't feel it. And apparently my bladder is discomfort is because he is KICKING MY DAMNED BLADDER incessantly, i just register it as discomfort rather than kicks.
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
@ashley35209I wasn’t feeling the baby at all and was eager to find out everything was okay at my anatomy scan last week. She was totally fine and they told me I have an anterior placenta which is why I haven’t felt her. Now I am 20w + 1d and still nothing! Dying to feel her start moving around
Completely separate topic here… Is it weird to throw myself a baby shower? I moved to a new city last year and I have no family or close friends nearby. This is my first baby and I’m really excited, it would be a shame not to celebrate. But the reality is if I want a baby shower I need to host it myself and the majority of the people who would come would be coworkers new and old and a few people who I’m starting to become friends with. I’m thinking of pushing it until as late as possible just so I have the chance to actually develop better friendships (I just started a new job - I work in film so it changes 3 times a year).
@puzzlehead11 Do you have a close friend who could host one for you virtually, and people just ship the gifts to you beforehand? You could also post your registries to your Facebook (if you have that) and mention that you had a few people ask about it. While it's not exactly favorable to host one yourself, in this day and age I think it would be okay if done right.
So my mom came to town and we finally got to tell her about baby (yay!) and one of the first things she told me was to "make sure the hospital is close" because she was only in labor for 2 hours with my older brother and 4 hours with me
Has anyone ever heard if this is something that holds true-ish for offspring? I am now terrified that we are 20 minutes away from our hospital.
@dvmmama I'm hoping that's true, if I decide to do the labor approach - I was the first child and my mother was only in labor for 4 hours
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
@dvmmama I feel like I've heard of this, but don't quote me on that. I was in labor right about 23 hours, but I didn't really even realize that's what it was until about 8:30 P.M. I checked in to the hospital at 10:27 P.M. and delivered my daughter at 3:28 A.M. That was my first birth and really fast to some people. My delivery was uncomplicated and straightforward (and they had to break my water at 10cm because it didn't break on its own). So anything is really possible when it comes to labor and delivery.
@dvmmama anything can happen. My mom and 3 sister have all had fairly quick labors. My mom's longest was 12 hrs and she was induced that time so was going from nothing. Most were around 6-8 hrs. My one sister's babies come in like 3hrs and she's rushing to the hospital. Her last baby was born 1w minutes after she arrived. So I was fully prepared for a quick labor and mine lasted 44hrs🤷♀️ I so hope this one is faster😬🤞🏼
@dvmmama I’ve heard people talk about it, but it hasn’t shown true in our family. My mom’s labor were all very fast. My sisters 3 labors have all been decently long (22, 18, and 16 hours). Mine have been 2.5 and about 7 hours.
Thanks everyone for the replies! I hadn't gotten to speak to my mom about pregnancy until now, so I'm finding out all of these things about when she was pregnant that I never knew before. There is a hospital only 5 miles from our house that I could switch to, but I LOVE my doctors at the other one and the delivery rooms are so much nicer there haha. I guess we will take our chances!
@dvmmomma I think 20 minute to a hospital that you like is not bad at all!! I’m about 35 minutes out. I know people that have to drive over 1 hour and that’s where I’d be a little more iffy on. Just to chime in on labours - my mom’s was 4 hours (I’m an only child) and mine was 12 hours so not really similar. I also have a coworker that literally birthed both of her daughters in the hospital entry because they just popped out with no effort lol but then her daughter had 2 kids in the last 5 years and both labours were over 24 hrs and very difficult. So definitely no correlation for them!
@dvmmomma I don't know how long my mother's labors were. I do know that I was posterior and she had to rock to get me to turn for a long time and rocking now even makes her sick to her stomach. I drove almost 3 hours to have my second, and my first was a 1.5 hour drive, but that ended up being a scheduled csection so not much worry there.
For this one It's about 1.5 hours to the hospital here that I would have to go to (no chance of traffic), or if we move to NY the hospitals I think I would end up at would be 1.5-2 hours and there is traffic because they're both in cities.
Lol @20 minutes. Mine is an hour away. The second I start having regular contractions we're headed in!

I hope this isn’t as strange of a question as I feel. Has anyone else had impostor syndrome @ their pregnancy? I can’t explain it any better. Sometimes, I feel a bit like a fraud. I haven’t had the typical cravings, no real aversions, no vomiting, not the typical misery. I know that everyone’s pregnancy is different and it’s my first one, possibly my only one. I think I’m requesting reassurance?
@pangolindrome until pretty much the end of my first pregnancy this was me. So don’t worry definitely not just you. Everyone experiences pregnancy differently! 🙂
@pangolindrome I kind of get this way too. My last pregnancy was really painful, but this one isn't that bad at all. With both, though, it just didn't/doesn't feel real. I think it's my mind's way of protecting me from potential issues that may arise, but also to keep me from overthinking things. Many women (sadly) don't feel comfortable talking about easy pregnancies, or if they're enjoying it, so I think you may just be hearing a lot of negative things when that just isn't your experience.
Regardless, whatever way you're feeling is perfectly okay and not wrong.
@puzzlehead11 I threw myself 2 babyshowers with my DD. The
first was a catch-up at a pub with our friends before we moved across the country,
the second was at my parents’ house & we played a few games. I will
organise a pub catch up with friends here too for this babe. I say go ahead and
throw your own shower for sure!
I feel like that with this pregnancy a bit @pangolindrome.
The pregnancy with my DD was so complicated and this time apart from being sick
in the first trimester I have had no symptoms, haven’t seen a doctor since the beginning of first & just going about living my life like normal (sans alcohol). I'm just starting to feel kicks now & it's starting to feel a bit more real, so I think when that happens for you (I was feeling them consistently by 3rd trimester with my DD and anterior placenta) it might feel a bit more "real".
Woof, ok I guess 20 minutes isn't that bad! It's also quite close to where I will be working, so there's that. I'm sure also my husband will likely be panicking, so it might be more like a 10-15 minute drive
@pangolindrome ooh yes. I’ve felt the same way with both pregnancies and I think it’s likely because they’ve been pretty good overall with minor inconveniences. I find anytime someone asks me how my pregnancy is going and if I tell them it’s going not too bad they’re like oh.. and then don’t want to talk about it much further lol. I know theirs were worse because they told me earlier though. The story was different once they asked me how the birth went 😆 theirs were smooth with a couple pushes, recovered and stopped bleeding in a week, and mine was extra dramatic with a lot of interventions.
@pangolindrome I think there's some cultural pressure to pretend that pregnancy is always hard. Everyone is so happy to tell me their horror stories, or how miserable they were. On the other hand, the few people I know who had easy pregnancies confess that fact in quiet voices, as if they feel a little ashamed. This isn't the best comparison, but I think it's a little like a relative of mine who had breast cancer, but they caught it early and she did 3 months of easy treatments and now she's 100% fine. (She obviously still gets monitored, but so far, so good!) She hates talking about it, and I think it's mostly because she knows that a lot of people don't get so lucky, and she isn't super comfortable with that fact.
...anyway, my only point is that I bet more people have your experience than you would think, only they don't always feel good talking about it. A coworker of mine didn't even know she was pregnant until she was 6 months along. And I have several friends who say they felt great while pregnant, as some of them had allergies/headaches/joint issues disappear for 9 months. I can't say I'm in the same camp as all of you. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with you having a different experience than the one you often hear about!
First time mom-to-be, due 9/25/22
Some complicated chromosomal stuff going on - our fingers are crossed, but this may not go according to plan!
Thank you, everyone! I am so lucky to have found this forum. I don’t know how I would survive - emotionally - without all your voices and experiences!
My feelings make more sense with more lenses to look at them through. My friend had a really terrible time and she wanted to talk about it to vent and process. All I want to talk about it every millimeter my bump grows and some insecurities. I don’t know that I would go so far as to say I am enjoying pregnancy, but my body is doing well and… Yeah, thank you again!
You see, I feel like it is opposite! I feel as if everyone wants me to say “oh I’m good, pregnancy is great”… but meanwhile it’s been super hard physically, and I feel awful for any complaints..
@melyrae I think it's interesting that we feel the same way from opposite ends of the experience. I am sorry that it is hard for you, and I am in awe of what you are doing.
I have a question... Has anyone's baby taken after their own back-as-a-baby feeding habits and pacifier use?
I was an eat-through-the-night-and-day baby who loathed pacifiers, so I'm curious... because I like sleep
Okay, slightly indelicate question....is anyone smelling extra....ripe...in their nether parts? I swear I am pungent within 2 hours of getting out of the shower and I don't know if it's a me thing, if it's due to the progesterone suppositories I'm still on, a pregnancy thing, or just my nose being extra sensitive.

@kboydbowman It could honestly be a combination of any of those, sadly. The best you can do is wash really well, wear cotton underwear, and use a panty liner that you change out frequently. That'll keep you smelling a bit better, at least to yourself, because you can freshen every few hours. It's probably only you who can smell it, but let's just say I know the feeling.
@kboydbowman Nether and pits. Absolutely. I use strong deodorant for armpits anyways and it doesn't seem to help nearly as much as it used to. More pits than nether bits. I feel like I'm signaling to wild beasts that they'll get their butts handed to them by a pregnant lady.
@kboydbowman Yes. Yes a million times. I put deoderant on my inner thighs (usually only do that when I wear dresses for chafe) but find I need to for *ahem* other reasons. Also, I have been getting crazy hot flashes. Today, I went to get my bridesmaid dress altered to fit the bump and was sweating profusely. Like, dripping down my legs and back situation. Glad I packed a travel deoderant in my bag because I had to use it when I went to slither back into my clothes. I felt like sausage being stuffed into its case.
@kboydbowman Yup! Florida heat isn’t doing any favors over here. Cotton underwear in addition to frequent panty liner changes seems to help. DH says he doesn’t notice me smelling but I swear I just stink. So maybe it’s just normal and my nose is extra sensitive right now.
@kboydbowman yup! Post partum was even worse. I couldn't get rid of the smell no matter how I washed. I could smell it through my clothes🤢 I think that was partly because of healing stitches. Thankfully my husband said he couldn't smell it when he sat next to me but yuck its gross!
@kboydbowman YES. Underboob in particular right now gets ripe by the end of the day along with the nether regions. I've been taking a quick bath/rinse before I go to bed at night and just change my undies then. I feel like it helps!
I shower twice per day (because I sweat easily and I walk doggo 30 minutes twice/day, so it'd be super bad for my skin and scalp otherwise) and I notice immediately that I smell... more strongly than I used to. It's got to be a biological signal to our environment.
@ashley35209@puppiesandbabies I’m 22+2 and also have an anterior placenta. I haven’t felt anything yet, I’m trying all the tricks and really trying to be patient. I hope I feel them soon!
