I'm definitely finding out. I'm too much of a planner to not know. This will be my fourth. I originally wanted to be surprised with my first but I was so sure it was a girl that I had to know so I wouldn't be upset if I was wrong. 🤣 I need to be able to plan out a room and get clothes ready etc. I have two girls and a boy. I genuinely don't care what's cooking but I cope with anxiety with projects and as a 36 year old hoping to bring home  a fourth baby after 4 miscarriages I absolutely have to know.
That being said I know a lot of people who didn't find out and that absolutely loved finding out during the birth. They said it was the best surprise. I'm for it!
I updated my username. I signed in and signed out. Still having issues with the knottie user name.

  • Question for y’all: what have YOU found triggers the metal taste?
For me, it is citrus-flavored things like sparkling water with citrus or tea with grapefruit. Suffice it to say, I’m now avoiding those.

@mckenzc it’s really sad to ‘say out loud’ but none. I was stressed, my husband’s now-former work was five months behind on pay, there was lots going on that killed both our libidos. His work caught up on pay before he left them.
And then, five weeks and two hours ago, I tested positive.

4th babe here and definitely have a bump. Small yes, I look super bloated. But that's just the way it goes, I showed early for my 3rd as well!
  • Super small spot of red blood this morning. Of course I’m traveling. Should I head to the ER? Or urgent care? Or just call my dr? We’ve had a previous miscarriage at 9 weeks. And I’m 8w3d right now.

@knottie34d7221c5a5396be I’m so sorry for the stress! Since it’s a tiny amount I’d just call your Dr today and see what to look for. Your cervix is very sensitive so it could have just been bumped from sex or exercise. There’s also a special thread here for bleeding where the group can offer support.
  • At some point you'll have it all back again. I miss coffee. Like desperately would bathe in it level of missing it. This is my fourth baby. I start getting an aversion to coffee at six weeks on the dot every single time. Not that it would matter because the amount of caffeine I drink on a daily basis is considered unhealthy for a normal healthy adult. It's downright dangerous for a baby. My husband and I are very close. We've been together for 16 years. He just adjusts to only having a hand on me for awhile instead of fully wrapping around me. You'll likely be able to eat more foods in the second trimester. That being said I literally ate pancakes every single day for three months with my first. I got really good at making pancakes. Haha. It's a huge adjustment. HUGE but just find what works for you. Maybe you'll miss this. Maybe you'll be one and done. I'm sad to say goodbye to my absolutely gorgeous wardrobe for probably two years. It's okay to be sad about what you miss and be excited for the future.

  • 4th baby here and I also have a bump. I've already been asked by strangers if I'm pregnant. My doc confirmed it was a bump. My uterus is measuring ahead but the baby is right on track. I have huge babies (last one was over 10lbs). I'm due 10/18. I've already had one ultrasound and will be going in for a second next week when I'm 8 weeks 6days. I'm already wearing maternity workout pants and jeans. I couldn't zip up my jeans anymore and I hate belly bands. The hair tie trick was no good for me.

Thank you. I needed to read this today. My husband has been amazing and really understanding with my new needs. I think he’s been better at it than I have. First trimester sucks and I’m glad I’m so close to being through it.

Now I’m definitely curious about how much caffeine your intake is at per day, haha.
  • @krysnicole1022 Have also perfected pancakes this pregnancy  :D Why are they so extra good right now?! If I'm really feeling like I'm lacking nutrients I'll make my batter in the blender so I can add in spinach and I sub almond flour in for some of the regular flour. Mostly I just make them full of all the white floury whit sugary goodness though...
  • @pangolindrome did you by chance have covid?  I had it over a year ago and lost my sense of smell for about 2.5 weeks. Once I got pregnant though I developed the Covid smell and now certain foods have weird metallic bad smells.

Well a twenty ounce cup at home in the morning...and then most afternoons I would get a venti cold brew with a double shot of espresso in it.... I haven't done the math exactly for both but I know that it's an unhealthy amount...the last drink is 425 mg of caffeine. In my defense I have three kids and a lot of stuff. 🤣🤣

@hotmessexpress89 First off, I’m so sorry you got it and I’m glad you were okay!
Thankfully not. My first week of apparently-pregnancy-symptoms had me fooled though - I actually stayed home for a week because everything hurt, my neck was stiff, my temp was slightly elevated, I could hardly stand up - but I tested negative on two home tests and a PCR test.
Honestly it’s a wonder considering I’ve literally had students who tested positive, weren’t vaccinated, and came to school.
It’s not an uncommon pregnancy thing to get the metal taste, I guess, according to the internet. I found what triggers it for me so that’s good.

My sinus issues precede Covid-19 by a decade 🤣 them’s just broken anyways. Our kiddo-in-development has two parents with borken sinuses.

@krysnicole1022 Ok, you’ve got my 200-250mg cups beat for sure. I only ever have one/day 😂 and obviously not now. I’ve found 200 is what my body needs for it to work though, so that transition has been rough.
  • @pangolindrome
200mg is perfectly safe if you can stomach it. As soon as I can drink it without wanting to puke I absolutely will. I limit it while pregnant and breastfeeding but I still drink it daily. I did with all my pregnancies. It's obviously all about what you feel comfortable doing.
  • I miss coffee too!  I was a more moderate one to two home-brewed americanos per day (each made with the double shot filter) coffee drinker but really religious about it.  Love my coffee time.  I bought decaf espresso right away when we found out that I’m pregnant at 5 weeks but since like 5 weeks 3 days I lost the taste for it.  The last thing you want when nauseous is coffee.  Even though some caffeine is safe I’ve still been wanting to be sparing with it, I’m not trying to be an addict lol.  But I’ve been making black iced tea to keep in in the fridge and make myself an Arnold Palmer when I can’t bear to drink plain water anymore. It’s a good coffee or cocktail substitute.  Sweet and tart things taste so good right now.
  • @krysnicole1022 They told me a cup (50-70mg. I’ll have to ask again at my intake appt with a different hospital tomorrow.
I have no strong aversions and no puking, so I’m glad for that. If I can have the caffeine I need on bad days, maaaan do I want it.

    Hey ladies! Random question!
They say that uterus usually hides behind the pubic bone until 10-12 weeks but I'm just shy of 7 weeks and can definitely palpate it 1-2inches above and tilted to the right side (yes I'm sure it's the uterus, been pregnant before and I get cramps if I poke around too much). Someone else in the same boat? Totally not freaking out about a potential multiple pregnancy right now...
  • @tpeci your uterus is going to rise out of pelvis much faster for a second+ pregnancy
  • Hey mamas, I have a random question. Is it safe to go to a concert? I have one next week and I’ll be 10 weeks. I’ve googled and everything says it’s fine but my boyfriend is worrying me thinking I shouldn’t go. I don’t see my OB until two weeks after and it’s my first appointment so I don’t have any contact info, nurse line etc. Any advice would help I really want to go but of course will sell my ticket if it’s not safe.
  • @ccarri01 not sure what type of concert, but my main concern would be if anyone was going to be smoking there (cigarettes or otherwise). What is your BF worried about? Also, you should be able to find your OB’s phone number online to call and ask.
  • I went to so many concerts when I was pregnant with my first! I just avoided people/areas if there was smoking or crazy dancing. I only got bumped once by someone when I went. I was so happy I still went!
  • @ccarri01 I guess it depends on what kind of concert it is…if it’s a screamo mosh pit kind of concert then I would say no, but just about anything else would be fine lol basically as long as you won’t be pushed around roughly.
  • Hello, I have some concerns about my HCG rise and wondering if any of you have experienced a similar situation and what your outcome was.

My HCG was previously rising at an appropriate rate ....

    (10DPO=40, 12DPO=141, 14DPO=416, 17DPO=1797)

However, I got an additional HCG drawn on 25DPO and it had onyl increased to 5925 (111 hours doubling time, ~34% 2 day increase). I had an early US at 5W5D and saw gestational sac, yolk sac and possibly a start of the fetal pole. My doctor didn’t seem concerned and I have no signs of a MC, but can’t help to focus on the slowed down doubling time. Has anyone experienced this? Does it seem normal?

Thank you so much! It’s a Bad Bunny concert! I have my own seat which is an aisle. I think because it’s our first my boyfriend is just worried about everything lol which I understand. Technically smoking is not allowed but not sure what people around me would be doing. I’ll try and see if there’s an number I can find. Thanks for your responses ☺️

  • Hi ladies! So I’m 9w1 and had a beautiful ultrasound at 8w1. Strong heartbeat. Of course I’m super paranoid and this is my first but I had pretty bad nausea from 4-8 weeks and it’s really starting to fade now. It’s the only symptom to seem to be fading but I’m just super worried. Is anyone else feeling better this far along? I’m just surprised cause I thought it would stick around longer.
  • @branchflower731 I noticed my nausea starting to ease up too, but I think it's more that I've gotten better at managing and preventing it. I do know that around the 8 week mark the placenta starts to take over nourishing the baby more so that can also make some symptoms start to ease up.
  • I can breathe again! Haha thank you. I thought it was more 12 weeks but this would make total sense! Our next ultrasound isn’t until next Thursday so my brain was like 🤪
  • I’m in the same boat! 10w4d and I truly turned a corner this week with very few symptoms- way less nausea and food aversions and I even have more energy to work out. I still have a bit of heartburn, breast soreness and nasal mucus so there’s that lol but it’s all much more manageable after a pretty difficult weeks 6-9. I’m just reminding myself that every pregnancy is different and that it is completely normal for symptoms to come and go 🙂
  • @branchflower731 @krthouse @sarita555 I’ve been a little panicked the past few days because I’ve been feeling pretty good. I woke up this morning feeling like garbage again which I’m kind of happy about. I’m not quite as far along as you all so hopefully my symptoms continue to ease up too
  • @pangolindrome (lurking from September) You'd be welcome to join us.  We are cozy and have (virtual) cookies.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

🤣 I had a feeling you might pop in. It’s looking like, based on my new calculations, I might end up over there with y’all.
  • @pangolindrome what can I say, I like to lurk! Especially when I'm avoiding work.

  • So I’m just wondering if anyone else’s OB doesn’t regularly see patients until 10-12 weeks? I called to make my appointment and the girl who answered the phone basically blew off my concerns and said I have to wait til mid-April.
This is my 4th confirmed pregnancy (2 miscarriages, 1 full term in 2017) -I’m 35 and had serious preeclampsia last time, so I know I’m high risk and that my OB will want me to answer extra questions and do extra testing.
  • @cfranx
Honestly try to talk to your OB directly or find someone new. I've been to a couple of different doctors andband they all had confirmation scans 6.5-8 weeks and then back after a month. I have a history of miscarriages and my new doctor has me coming in every two weeks for peace of mind. I honestly don't know any who wait that long at this point. They need to take you seriously.
This is my fourth baby. I fired my doctor during my second pregnancy. I recently fired another doctor because she brushes off my repeated miscarriages (4 in 5 months).
  • @cfranx mine isn't seeing me until 10 weeks either (tomorrow!) and after talking to another mom who went to this practice, it sounds like I might not even get an ultrasound right away either. It's a little frustrating since I'm so anxious. But I am pretty much the definition of low-risk.

Since you've had previous losses, maybe you could call the nurse's line and see if they can get you in for an early scan-- or at least get more information into their policies. Maybe they'd be a little more helpful than that person doing the scheduling. Some places seem to take more of a hands-off approach since there isn't a ton they can do early on anyway. You could also consider getting a private scan if that would help for peace of mind. I know how agonizing it is to wait though, especially when it seems like everyone else is getting early appointments.
  • Should I be worried that I’m even more regular now that I’m pregnant?

Like before, I’d poop in the morning. Now, it’s 2-3 times per day. I heard that it is similar to contractions which is why the body tries to slow it down, so I dunno… I found it concerning!
  • @pangolindrome I’m honestly super jealous 😂😂 last time I was plagued with constipation most of the time. I don’t think you need to be too worried as long as it’s not an abnormal consistency/ color - you might just be drinking more water or eating a little differently and noticing that change your routine a bit.  I have prunes, fiber powder, and Colace on standby for the 2nd trimester

@branchflower731 My nausea literally up and left at 8w0d after being super sick for 3 weeks and losing 8 lbs. I’m 11w tomorrow and so grateful. Had a healthy US at 10w3d so I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you!
