The Great Big Question Thread!

Re: The Great Big Question Thread!

  • @mrsramirez50 that is silly they keep changing the dates . I was told they would only change the date if there was a span of 5 day difference either direction- I would just pick the date you like btw the two and insist it is that day when anyone (including the dr) ask.

  • @tpeci I didn't know you could do that on the bump! You can do it on ovia and I have that set to weird/cute animals
  • tpecitpeci member
@EmilyE13 and @krthouse maybe you're right and I'm confused with ovia, not the bump. I thought I remembered this was possible last time I was pregnant and on TB but it's been quite some time; could be wrong.
  • @tpeci - You can't change it on the Bump, but you can find other comparisons on the interwebs. :)
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • @jbdb23 - I still have my fibroids that hung around through my last pregnancy. Those suckers aren’t leaving without a fight, I guess.
I was told that there may be a slightly higher risk of bleeding during labor, so home birth was not recommended- but since mine are far from baby, I had 0 issues with them.
I have 1 large and 2 or 3 small-ish fibroids, fyi, but location is everything and I can’t remember where they are.  A little less than 1 year before announcing our first pregnancy I had a large mass & additional fibroid removed, along with my right ovary & Fallopian tube. The removal of that fibroid was just part of the other surgery and not required, as it was outside the uterus. Sorry if that’s not helpful atm but maybe it will help you feel a little less anxious?
  • @mckenzc Yay! Great news about screening results, and we loved the surprise of being team green with our first. It's really special!
  • Anyone continuing with their morning coffee during pregnancy?

With my first I gave it up cold turkey. With my second I kept half a cup per day, but I always kind of wished I could kick it all together. So now with my third I’ve gone cold turkey again.  I’m missing it like crazy with this first trimester fatigue.

My doctor has given me her personal recommendations, but I’m just curious what other moms think about the topic!
  • @alynn0789 I went cold turkey with my first. This time I've switched to either half-caf or decaf, and not daily. Decaf does still have a little bit of caffeine in it. I may fully switch off, but last time I got wicked caffeine withdrawal headaches so I'm just gently easing away from being dependent on it. I do find I'm much less prone to bursts of anxiety when I don't have caffeine. I had PPA so I'm hoping to be caffeine-free for awhile when second baby arrives.
  • @alynn0789 i've mostly went cold turkey even though my doctor said I could have up to 2 cups a day.  I have been having iced tea and hot tea some days.  i agree with @krthouse it helps my anxiety so i'll try to stay away for as long as i can take it.
  • @alynn0789. I can't stomach it in the first trimester for more than half a hot cup but as soon as that lifts my iced coffee is coming back. Granted it will be a much smaller size but I never give it up. It's not good for anyone. I didn't give it up with my previous three but I did scale it back. I hate the taste of decaf so if I had to choose I would just quit cold turkey. My OBs were totally fine with it and I have every intention of drinking every milligram of caffeine that I'm allowed.  It's not for everyone at all and everyone should do what makes them feel comfortable.
  • I drink 2 cups a day. Third baby and I live a little knowing they’re fine 😆 this is home coffee so I know the caffeine is not insane. Coffee shop coffees are notoriously WAY higher in caffeine than home brew. I don’t get those and if I did it would be my 1 for the day. Non pregnant I usually drink 3-4 morning and maybe one in the afternoon 😬

anyway. The 200mg suggestion is honestly pretty high if you’re brewing at home. I’m just not worried about that.
  • @alynn0789 I stick with the 200mg limit and usually less. Most often I just have 1 serving a day.
  • I try to stick with the 200mg limit as well but I'll just say my babies never confused night and day. 🤣🤣🤣 First trimester I'm way more cautious (and can't really stand it) but I'll definitely get a small cold brew later on in the pregnancy. My husband will typically drink at least half of whatever I bring home so I don't worry about it too much.
  • I was planning on sticking to one cup a day home brewed but I haven’t been in the mood for coffee at all.  Instead I’ve been making myself a morning Arnold Palmer which tastes so good right now and is not something I’ve ever wanted before.
  • Ugh I regret ever getting a Doppler! I found heartbeat several times quite easily and haven’t been able to find it for a few days now. Cue the freaking out. Why do I do this to myself?!
  • @branchflower731 just try to find the placenta. The baby starts moving all over. You can also typically hear the echo (heart rate will be lower just fyi.) If you focus near your pelvic bone. A lot of things can cause you to not hear the heart beat on the dopplers. 1) they aren't the best quality. They aren't doctor grade therefore not as sensitive. They are better for when you are further along. 2) if you have an anterior placenta...good luck trying to find it. 3) the baby is just too small and moves around. In my experience they don't particularly like the Doppler and will avoid it.
Youtube has great videos on the difference in sounds so maybe finding the placenta sound will give you some relief. This is super common and why doctors advise against home dopplers. I mean I have one so obviously I don't listen. Haha. But the tech told me that because of my tilted uterus and anterior placenta that the doctor wouldn't be able to find it with their Doppler so I haven't even tried.
  • To my fellow large chested ladies:

recommendations for comfortable bras for not so crazy expensive prices? I have Knix on my list if anyone has any reviews on the brand.
  • @mcclanna Bravado is my fave for comfy nursing bras that still have some lift. The Knix ultimate pullover bra is quite comfy too, not for nursing just for life.
  • @mcclanna I just ordered this bra from bare necessities (the color that’s on sale). It’s not exactly cheap, but is pretty comfortable. I’d say the cup size runs a bit big and the band size a bit small, so adjust accordingly.
  • 10w3d and not feeling pregnant. A lot of my symptoms have dissipated and I’m left with sore nipples. That’s it. Should I worry? Previous loss.
  • Anyone know of any Instagram follow-worthy accounts relating to pregnancy that they enjoy?
  • @jilliboo have you had an ultrasound yet? Towards the end of the first trimester you can start to feel better. The nausea comes and goes, the exhaustion can lift a bit, etc. That doesn't mean anything is wrong just that your pregnancy is progressing normally.
  • @krysnicole1022 yes. I had one at 9w4d and everything was great. I’ve had minimal symptoms this whole pregnancy. No nausea, no headaches and only minor aches and pains until yesterday when all that was left are my tender nipples. Called the nurse she said it’s totally normal, but they can try to move my next appointment up if I’m worried. I’m not too worried, I just wish time would go faster.
  • @mcclanna I follow:

    mommy.labornurse
thebellemethod (pelvic floor health and preggy/postpartum exercises)
    milkandhannah (birth/newborn photographer)
bumpnbub (Australian midwife; she's also pregnant now!)

There are a bunch more but I think these are the ones I see the most content from

  • @mckenzc thanks. Having lost one, everything is stressful. Lol. I’ve had some round ligament pain already, and defs the insomnia. It’s just relieving to know I’m not alone and the nurse I talked to said the same thing.
  • This is my first pregnancy. I had blood work done on Tuesday, and the results came back yesterday. The midwife said that my hCG levels are way higher than expected for seven weeks pregnant. She said this could mean our dates are off, or there are multiples! I know 100% when the date of my last period was. Has anyone else tested really high in hCG and only had one baby? We are getting an ultrasound this coming Tuesday to see what we have going on. I’m so excited!!!
  • @ivansgirl1 are you sure of when you ovulated? That means more than your LMP does. Good luck at ultrasound, let us know how it goes!
  • @ivansgirl1 I was going to ask the same thing as @bows22. I typically ovulate more than 2 weeks after my period, and I have friends who ovulate early in their cycles. It's also totally possible that it's multiples, and if it is then there are a ton of mamas expecting multiples in this group! I would confirm via ultrasound for peace of mind and accurate dating. I hope that higher hcG hasn't been wreaking havoc on you with symptoms!
  • @ivansgirl1 I had super high HCG levels with my first and they had me come in to see if there were multiples or if I was further along than we thought (I hadn't had a period in 3 months at this point). I don't remember the exact number but it was 20-30000 at 5 weeks..
  • @mckenzc absolutely same boat. I’m 12w also and was hoping to take a turn for the brighter side but for some reason this week is off to a sluggish start. Barely made it back from work this week, tired as all heck and barely functioning physically and mentally. Put the sour cream in the cup board and tossed the oven mitt into the garbage. Giving myself some grace, we’re doing so much!
  • Makes me feel better that someone else is in this same boat…that we aren’t rowing ourselves bc we are tired and or nauseous 😂

I was pretty miserable with my first until week 14 so I’m not losing all hope just yet. But dang. For the 2 weeks I got back to working out I felt like I got myself back 🥲
  • My workouts have been lacking hard. I do mostly the elliptical or some sort of kick boxing/TaeBo. It helped me lose 45 lbs and pretty much keep it off. I can barely manage ten minutes before I'm exhausted. It's so awful. I'm so used to moving around and I just can't do it for long. I'm really hoping that I'll feel better in the next couple weeks. I'm 10 weeks now. I'll have GD in the third trimester so exercise is essential. Plus I just feel so much better.

Anyone having bad round ligament pains already? 3rd baby really is taking a toll so early.. I'm 9 weeks going off LMP. 8w2d based off ultrasound.

I stood up to fast yesterday I guess and there was so much intense pulling/pain in my lower stomach for 30ish seconds. And today one side feels a little tender to touch. I've googled and appearently I'm all alone on this matter lol this is the second time its happened even with the tender feeling afterwards. And I have constant dull aching pain all the time. Especially when walking and standing.
  • I have felt some RLP- baby 3. Even if I cough/sneeze while in a certain position it’s like a shooting pain. My provider said definitely sounds like RLP even this early (this was at 8w4d). So now I brace my belly when I cough 🤣 and just try not to do sudden movements. If I’m lifting weights I’m suddenly very conscious of my core area, even if it’s not a core focused movement. I’m basically babying it.

I’m happy the provider told me it’s likely RLP and wasn’t at all hesitant to say so early in the game. Otherwise I’d be concerned. But by baby 3 all those parts and ligaments and muscles are so worn they just move faster and probably with less precision 🙃
  • Baby 4 here and 10 weeks 1 day. I've had RLP for weeks. It sucks. I try to be very aware of it when I stand or get out of bed.
