@dimeadozen yes, I'll flip onto my stomach when all else fails and I feel that uncomfortable pressure that wasn't there before. I can only stand it for so long, now. It's always really hard when I can no longer sleep on my stomach. Definitely gonna get the prego pillow out from storage soon...but DD1 is going to try and steal it.
@dimeadozen kind of. I lay on the side of my belly with my leg bent so it lifts up my pelvis and belly a little. If it’s getting uncomfortable though, I’d get the pregnancy pillow out. I like snuggling with mh so I’m trying to hold out lol.
@dimeadozen I usually sleep on my side with a pillow shoved under somewhere, but then if I wake up at some point, I sometimes switch to my stomach and sleep there for a bit. I’ll be 15 weeks tomorrow and it’s not uncomfortable yet so I’m still doing it occasionally.
@starkette same with my daughter. The first time she saw it she said “ooooooooo”
@paytonpedro I sleep the same typically but I’ve found myself completely face down lately. My husband is NOT wanting the pillow out for the sane reason so I’m trying to wait too haha.
@dimeadozen Ive been having a hard time sleeping, even when I take something to help me sleep. Hard to find a comfy spot. I'll need my pillow soon which I feel bad about because it takes up sooo much space
@Katek819 Pregnancy pillows are so annoyingly huge, one of the downsides. My normal pillow is so flat, it's practically non existent and I love it that way. I HATE how thick my snoogle is and it usually makes my neck hurt. Have you tried Unisom? I see you listed you do take something. I started taking it to combat the morning sickness early on and it's helped that and sleeping.
Hello All- FTM here due August 24. I’m having an extremely difficult time sleeping recently and it’s giving me headaches. The problem is that I’m normally a stomach sleeper, but can’t do that anymore. When I try to sleep on my side, I wake up in the middle of the night with whole body aches and a stiff neck. I’ve tried a pregnancy pillow, a pillow between my legs etc. Nothing seems to help. Does anyone have other suggestions?
@knottie11a5ed36c40af11a welcome! I'm also a FTM and have the same issue. I have taken some unisom and it helps me stay asleep, but the stiffness and sore neck are just a thing, it seems. I feel like when pregnant, our bodies just don't get the same sleep we are used to. You may want to change your username to something more unique so we can tag you more easily and get to know you better.
@dimeadozen I have in the past, ill prob try again. I was taking my "as needed" anxiety medicine at night because it usually puts me out when my mind is racing. It just hasn't been cutting it but I don't want to increase the dose (even though I can) because its hard to fight off the sleepy in the morning.
Question Anyone else getting bad hip pain while sleeping? It's not round ligament pain, it feels like my actual hip bones. Everything online says my hips shouldn't start shifting until 3rd trimester. The pain specifically starts after I've been laying on my side for awhile, right around the joint. My next appointment isn't until next week but I am going to ask for a referral for pelvic floor pt
Sadly, Knottie, sleep is gonna be rough the entire pregnancy. Definitely see if your doc can help recommend something but...I always have insomnia, restless legs, tight muscles, and general anxiety during pregnancy which makes sleeping a chore. It really is gonna be hard the whole time and get worse as you get bigger. Sorry. I feel like it's the biggest cosmic joke because with a newborn we are gonna be exhausted, too, it would be nice if we could get some good sleep before they come! But nope. Maybe it's nature training us to survive in sleep scraps to prepare for baby.
@ambelance Yep. Last pregnancy my ob said it was some kind of referred pain. He tried to explain it to me but I didn't really understand. Basically your hips can hurt during pregnancy for no reason at all and it's normal. Last time it didn't start until third tri, but this time I have it off and on, not every day, as early as 13 weeks. Maybe your ob can explain it better than mine.
@ambelance yes, especially when I lay on my right side instead of left. I’m not your typical pregnant person bc of prior injuries but if I had to blame it on something I would say the hormone relaxin. If my appointment happens to be before yours I’ll ask my OB and let you know
@wisewitch222@wigglyicecream thanks, it's reassuring that it isn't just me. My appointment is the 8th and I'm ordering a new pregnancy pillow, the pharmedoc is too flat for between my knees so maybe that will help too.
@ambelance now that you mentioned it, when I tried to used my snoogle which has gone flat I hurt more than my current one. So that could also be a factor for sure. I hope you find relief. I also like being on my back more than my sides for this exact reason but I guess you’re not supposed to be on your back a lot now
Hello there, FTM here. I have also been having trouble staying asleep throughout the night. Finding that I wake up every night between 2 and 3am. I need to get a pregnancy pillow, I like pillows more on the firm side, any recommendations? Hopefully the pillow keeps me from rolling unto my back, that may be why I keep waking up.
I have not kept up with this thread, so apologies if this has already been asked. I feel like this will likely be hard to describe, but what does feeling the baby feel like? I’m 16.5 weeks and I don’t think I’ve felt anything, but I also don’t really know what I’m looking for. My OB said I likely won’t feel anything until 20 weeks, but I’ve also seen people talking about this (though I know STM+ moms can often feel baby earlier). Anyway, if anyone has any insight it would be much appreciated!
@lapizsk no recommendations, but wanted to second that I also have a hard time staying asleep. About 50% of nights I wake up and can’t fall back asleep for like an hour - almost always between 4 and 5 am.
@curlymils it’s probably pretty subjective, but I will explain what it has felt like for me. As a FTM (last pregnancy), I started feeling “flutters” somewhere around 16/18 weeks or so but was very unsure of if I was actually feeling the baby or not. To me, it almost feels like gas or something is just like rolling around in your belly haha. But once, I felt the baby kick for the first time, closer to 20 weeks, that was unmistakable! The kicking, imo, is distinctive and when you feel it, you’ll know! This time around, I’m 15 weeks now and I can feel the “flutters” of baby moving around but I probably would not have known for sure last pregnancy that it was baby, if that makes sense. Hope that helps a little!
@lapizsk unfortunately, comfortable sleeping is a thing of the past when pregnant. As a few of us mentioned, we take unisom and that helps. Some find relief in different pillows, but it’s just finding your own fix. Sorry I couldn’t be of much help, sleep is not an easy fix!
@curlymils to me it feels like very very light poking. This time around it feels like small muscle spasms almost.
@curlymils It literally feels like someone is inside you, moving. Eventually, the feelings will feel distinct enough from other inside feelings (like gas bubbles) enough for you to determine you have felt the baby move by process of elimination. I have been feeling this little buddy move since around 14 weeks, but I think I was closer to 18 weeks when I felt my first.
@curlymils as I read your question, I was wondering the same, mostly because I had about 4 semi sharp feelings somewhere below my ribcage on the left within a couple minutes. Is that a kick? Is that round ligament pain? Am I just hungry? Where on your body do these things typically happen? I think I'm just on high alert now after hearing the baby move so much on the doppler at my appointment last week.
@curlymils baby kicks and rolls so the feelings vary a bit but usually it feels like flutters and tiny little taps from the inside. Once they get bigger there’s no mistaking it but early on I often have to lie really still and focus on feeling it, when I’m laying in bed at night is usually the best for it since babies tend to wake up and move more when you’re still. I’ve always felt movement earlier than 20 weeks, even with my first.

@fromfurmomtobabymom8-2 interesting that you mention it! I'll be 16 weeks tomorrow and today I started feeling this random pain (?) On my left side close to the rib cage. On the upper side. Not sure what it is...it really doesn't hurt; it's just like pressure Anyone has any ideas?
@bre2022 so I've been feeling baby for a few weeks, and at time I can feel pressure in areas around my uterus... like for example, yesterday I felt a lot of pressure right above my bladder... while I can't say it with 100% certainty, I think it is baby pressing against the area. Like you said, it doesn't hurt, it just feels like pressure.
@Bre022 exactly, it really wasn't pain, more of a sudden jolt. It just seemed really high up though, but I have no idea what to expect or where to expect it to happen.
I think id like to try out a bellyband this time around, never tried one with my first pregnancy. I feel my abs are weaker and seems to be straining my lower back.
@dimeadozen I almost always slept on my stomach before, and I still can, but I’ve been trying to adapt to sleeping on my sides more to be comfortable as I progress. Since I’m not showing yet, I occasionally end up on my back or tummy, but usually go from one side to the other or sleep on my tummy/side with hugging/my leg on a regular pillow.
@ambelence I wouldn’t say I have hip pain, per se, but it does get achy, especially if I’m up and around awhile. Apparently things soften well before shifting is normal, so I think aches are just more likely.
@cas060 if you’re talking about something to help support your belly, I had this or something like this in my last pregnancy. It helped a lot but I couldn’t wear it all day because that gave me a stomachache.
@cas060 I had one like @paytonpedro with my second but I really liked the Blanqi tank tops or belly bands better. The belt ended up hurting my hips if I wore it all day.
@cas060@mdfarmchick I also had a belly band from blanqi (think tube top that didn’t cover your boobs) and felt like either I got a size too big or it didn’t support me at all. It must have been when the company was newer, I was bummed because it wasn’t cheap. But I also get literally ginormous.
I have had a migraine-type headache for two nights now. It starts in the afternoon and it is not severe, but it's just..there. I work on a computer all day but have been trying to take breaks. The headaches seem to get a bit better when I rest, but don't completely go away. Before pregnancy, whenever I had migraines they would come with stomach issues. So far I just have kind of food aversions.
I stay hydrated, no changes in diet, exercise and feel no other symptoms:/ Does anyone gave any ideas? my next appointment is next Wednesday

@curlymils it is still early so it’s possible you haven’t felt anything yet and that can be completely normal
