Happy Valentine's Day to those who celebrate it!

I never really did as a perpetually single, bitter old hag and now that I'm married to my forever valentine, it is really just a relief not to have to dread it anymore. We don't do anything special, maybe just put 50% more effort into dinner. No cards, no gifts. His Mom made chocolate cupcakes yesterday so I don't even have to make dessert.

I swear we're romantic other days of the year, we just don't make a big deal over this day in particular.

Does anyone else have any special ways they celebrate? Maybe Galentine's Day instead?

@kiki047 we don't do anything besides exchange cards but SO decided last minute to take me out to dinner tonight. It's nice but honestly it's never been a big deal holiday for me.

We usually try to cook a nice dinner, but I'm at school for like 12 hours and he's sick, so we're putting the nice dinner on the backburner for now. Other than that, we don't really do much.

@kiki047 we usually just get each other chocolate but since our finances are more stable now that I’m working full time again and after the hell we’ve been going through with covid and TTC, we actually went all out this year and got each other gifts. DH got me this Kate Spade bag I’ve wanted for awhile and I got him a watch. He’s making us steak and lobster tails tonight for dinner.

We've been together 17 years this year 🤯 so the gifts have def ebbed and flowed over time depending on life, finances, time. This year we got to have a weekend to ourselves. Which time feels more like a priceless gift as I age. We went out to eat Friday and Saturday, slept in, lounged around and napped. It was glorious. I am def a “do things” more than tangible gift person. Now the irony of that statement, I’m insanely close with 5 of my sorority sisters still, who have really propped me up of late, so I sent them dainty initial necklaces for Galentine’s, and got one for me. So it’s like a little friendship necklace. And I love it. We’re mostly stretched in a 4 hour driving radius, so it’s nice to feel connected.

DH worked last night so no v-day plans for us (typical because he works nights). But he'll be home tomorrow night for our anniversary so I'm looking forward to wine and takeout

We usually do a nicer dinner at home, either cooking or take out, but no cards or gifts or anything. This year I made steaks, homemade scalloped potatoes and parmesan crusted asparagus. I made a chocolate cake for dessert, but it stuck to the pans so it turned into a chocolate cake trifle lol

A little late to the Vday party, but we're definitely in the "not do anything special." Like... maybe 10-25% effort? Yesterday's effort was getting a half-bottle of champagne. That's it.

@kiki047 yep, literal infants. i was 18 and he was 20. took a 6 month break in college bc i was like i just see if the grass is greener on the other side... it was not. lol. we'll celebrate 10 years married this sept.

I was reading to post this article https://www.verywellhealth.com/cryptic-pregnancy-5176208 to point out that cryptic pregnancies only happen when YOU ARE NOT TTCing and it's only cryptic because it's literally "oops I didn't know I was pregnant because I wasn't trying, I was on birth control, and I didn't have any symptoms, but I'm definitely having unprotected sex." Unfortunately, admins are doing their job really well today.

@fantasyflyte having recently done some hardcore reddit lurking, i can recommend for the IFers and potential IFers in the crowd that the /infertility and /ivf subreddits are both gratifyingly reality-based communities as well, albeit the former has so many rules that it makes us look like anarchists over here.

@optimistgardener LOL @ rules in r/infertility. SO TRUE. I actually frequent that one a lot because it's SUCH A LARGE COMMUNITY so it's very easy to get questions answered. But yeah... I've broken their rules and their AutoMod very quickly jumps in to tell you how you've broken it.
