We finally narrowed down a first name and are between two middle names! I love when we get to this point because it’s so much easier to think about the baby as a little person when they have a name!
Which do you like more: Nathaniel James or Nathaniel David?
@cassafrass123 fwiw, I think my initial vote would be Nathaniel David, however I'm big on the flow with the last name. So if your last name has a *lot* of syllables, I might rather go with, "Nathaniel James Studebaker," but it not then, "Nathaniel David Brown." For me tho what always trumps it is the meaning. I would read up on the stories of King David and James and see if one really speaks to you over the other in that way. If you're into that sort of thing.
DH and I picked the twins names already, Abigail, and, Alissa. We already know we are having fraternal twin girls. Although this is our last time having kids.
I've been trying hard not to think of names until at least Wednesday (gender scan day!!) But I think I found a boys name I like! We've discussed Sebastian and Adrian as first names. MH likes the idea of using Ukrainain middle names (I've probably mentioned that before lol sorry!) But I decided I liked how Sebastian Bohdan sounds. As for girls...we still have our top contenders of Claire and Madeline, but haven't figured out a middle name.
Secondly, would any of you consider giving two middle names to a kid with a hyphenated last name? We have two middle names that are both extremely meaningful to us and the arguments for each have equal weight for us. Neither of us like either name as a first name. We would just do both, but our last name is hyphenated and MH is concerned that filling out forms and getting ID all will be annoying for our kid in the future with such a long name. I know there's no right answer here, just wondering if you all think a hyphenated last name should take two middle names off the table.
@babybelugaco I love those names! Sebastian was on my list until DH's cousin chose that for his son. Adrian is great, too.
@sawasap I agree, boys' names are SO hard to choose! DH and I can only agree on one first name. I don't really have advice on the two middle names question, but I get having more than one meaningful name. I do have a friend who gave her son 2 middle names and it doesn't seem to be a problem (heck the British Royals all have 2+ middle names AND a hyphenated last name).
I think we've locked in our middle name choices! For a boy it's Justin (after my maternal grandfather) and for a girl it will be Margaret (after my MIL). My mom absolutely hates her first name, so using her dad's name means a lot to her (her middle name is already my first name). First names we don't want to lock in just yet, but we definitely have some frontrunners!
DH asked me the other day how I felt about multiple middle names. He was suggesting 3 and I said that seems like way too much. Even 2 seems like too much depending on the name lol
We've decided on a girls name already, but we are having a hard time on the boys name since we've kind of ran out of family names we like. I think we have possibly settled on a first name but we aren't sure on a middle name.
@emeraldduchess high five for Margaret, that's our middle name too if we have a girl! It's a long running family name, if we have a girl she would be the 8th Margaret (at least).
@sawasap I don't think I would do 2 middle names with a hyphenated last name, it would be a lot to fit on paperwork and ID and might start to feel really cumbersome. The only caveat would be if both of your last names are really short, like they aren't a ton of letters all together. But I would probably still feel like 5 names is a lot to have!
