@emeraldcity1214 Henry is a great name! It's definitely gotten more popular in the last 10 or so years, at least where I live. I had a student named Henry 2 years ago and a colleague has a 1 year old Henry.
@emeraldcity1214 I also like the name Henry. I tend to lean towards traditional, vintage sounding names.
I'm trying to get my husband on board with Helena Grace if we have a girl. My grandma's name is Helen and I'd love to honor her somehow, so I thought Helena was a pretty, slightly updated version. MH wrinkles his nose anytime I mention it though (but he does that with everything so I've stopped paying attention!)
For a boy I'm thinking of mashing the grandpas' middle names to Dean Michael. Other than that I really like the name Asher or Cole.
I have mentioned Henry with the last 4 pregnancies and he has shot me down each time. Maybe I should just start throwing out awful names that sound ridiculous and then bring Henry up again and see what he says.
@kissyfir1586 I love the sound of Helena Grace! I really like vintage-y names, too. I've been looking at a lot of English literature and royal family trees for names.
My husband told me he dreamt of a name for a baby boy. What's that name? Jaugustulius. Lmao. He said it's a combination of Julius and Augustus. I don't remember if I've mentioned it before but his family is Ukrainian, so we like to do an English name for the first name and a Ukrainian name for the middle! We have a couple of girls names we like but we have trouble picking boy names.
@emeraldcity1214 that's a good strategy. DH didn't like any of my boy OR girl name choices before I got pregnant. Now he's starting to come around on the boy names and is all in on my favorite girl name!
We finally settled on our names last night! Whoohoo! We were really struggling with the girls name (having 2 girls already) but we landed on one we both like. And we are using the boy name we had picked out last time around so that was easy
I have literally been flooding DH’s phone with names. Some I actually like and then a bunch that aren’t completely unusable but definitely not his style and some ridiculous ones. He came home today and said he got all my messages and he thinks it’s time he starts looking at names. 🤣 Yes! Yes it is because this is only going to get worse!
we were up until about 2am last night talking baby names...I'm sure it's going to be Isaac..but DH doesn't want to commit to it yet..he just keeps suggested all these random off the wall names I know he will never actually want
@krash_ I also love Jane. Id consider it for my daughter but I have a close friend with that name. Our top contenders are below. I like them somewhat traditional, simple and sweet.
@kissyfir1586 beautiful list! I love Helena because it’s a lot less popular than the others and just as lovely. plus Nell is sometimes used as a nn for Helen names so it gets extra points 😜
@krash_@agea I love ada, ivy & iris! so pretty but also unique!
since DD is Indie we are trying to keep it just as quirky and unique. Love hearing all of these beautiful classic names though! I definitely have an appreciation for them, I just tend to go more outside the box for my own kids. That being said we are thinking of sticking to another name that ends in the -ie or -y sound.
Current top two are: Stevie Sage Navy Jane
i’m really trying to convince my husband to hop on board with Goldie or Birdie but it’s looking like a no on either of those.
So I started going through popular boys names during our family car ride and DD (3.5) decided she only wanted Sebastian if it's a boy and nothing else, haha! DH was in a let's name a baby mood and helped me make a list from the US top 200 names and we realized that we both love James as a first name. It's in the top 15 where we live but since it's not in the top 5, I don't mind too much. We both feel meh about Joseph now (although I still really like it) so feel real happy we've settled on a new name! Now we just need a middle name that's not Brother Bear, Sven, Kristoff, or Lightening McQueen (DD's other suggestions).
@sleepydaze my son is James (the 3rd) and we call him James. I had a lot of pushback over no nickname but it fits him.
I had a shortlist for boys. I’m stuck now that we know it’s a girl but I’m leaning towards a more neutral girl name like Rian or Drew. MH wants Penelope but I’m not sold. He also has suggestions I hate like Sunshine or Courtney.
@agea with our other kiddos, we just picked middle names we liked. Since we're Canadian, we both have families that are a mishmash of probably 10-15 cultures each and no close ties to most of our great grandparents' families/heritage. If someone really meaningful passed away I would want the middle name to honor them though (ex a sibling or parent). It was pretty rare when I grew up for one of my friends to be named after someone. DH and his sister have their parent's first names as their middle names, which both him and I find kinda odd lol.
@paulpaw I've got a James too. He is named after his paternal grandfather, so he is the II (the 2nd). His nickname is Jack, partially because I didn't like any of the typical nicknames for James, and partially because his initials are JAC.
@paulpaw I love Penelope! It's one of my top contenders for a girl but DH said no LOL
@krash_ I love your list. You have very similar taste to my sister. She has an Audrey, Ethan and now pregnant with a second girl she wants to name Nora Leigh. I personally love Meredith.
Anyone else dealing with someone overly involved/sending too many helpful suggestions on names? When we told my MIL we were having a girl, right off the bat, she said she already had a list and of names picked out. I kind of laughed off the comment at the time, but she legit had a list prepared for me. 😳 Now she keeps texting me with names every day. I feel like this is really weird behavior, but maybe I'm just being a grump? I mean, my mom will give me feedback on names I'm considering, but she's never so much as offered up a single suggestion. It's bad enough getting DH on board with anything I like. Adding her needs/wants is an unnecessary extra layer.
@kissyfir1586 your MIL sounds like my mom. With DD and DS she would email me huge lists of names. Most of the time I would delete then without reading them haha (my mom sends a LOT of emails and texts). The few times we would look at the lists, DH didn't like any of her name ideas anyway. Not sure of your relationship with MIL, but most of the time I ignored the name idea texts and my mom eventually ran out of steam. Honestly the only name opinions that matter are yours and DH's alone, and then if you want to have a neutral party (in this case your mom) as a sounding board, doesn't sound like you need any other input!
@kissyfir1586 we just found out this weekend and my mom mentioned Hannah multiple times since it's a family name. I don't dislike it but I also don't like it enough to use it if that makes sense.
Our girl name for DS was Adeline which I loved but we've taken off the list for this time around. I love the name Hattie but DH says it sounds like hat. I'm going to try to get him to come around on it haha. Other names on the list right now are Lucy and Amelia.
@sleepydaze My relationship with my MIL is good. So Im going to give a short non answer, like "thanks for the suggestions!" and maybe she'll eventually go away.
@feelingjovani I really love the name Adeline. Amelia is cute too.
@kissyfir1586 my MIL is the same, she sends DH and i suggestions all the time. Thankfully DH is picky as hell so he quickly shuts her down so i don't have to
@kissyfir1586 You need to set a boundary now. Before you know it she is going to be telling you how SHE named YOUR child. That would not fly with me. I would have to tell her, firmly but politely, that you and your husband have it handled and don’t need her help.
@emeraldcity1214 yesterday I gave a generic response and then just refused to engage in any more name convo. I think I've been inadvertently encouraging her by trying to be polite. We'll see if she has any more lists for me today or if I need to be more direct.

They definitely did NOT use a name we were considering, and went super Irish instead. I'm glad I convinced myself to just calm down and wait.
I think we're down to two solid choices. And 99% sure we're going back to my gut instinct and first choice.
Jane
Ada
Elizabeth
Caroline
Margaret/Maggie
Juliet
Meredith
I'm not super sold on any of them. Jane is probably our top contender. Our style is less common normal names. Anyone have any suggestions?

@krash_ I also love Jane. Id consider it for my daughter but I have a close friend with that name. Our top contenders are below. I like them somewhat traditional, simple and sweet.

@agea I love Alice and Rose/Rosemary but those are both names of MH's aunts and he refuses.
@runningonindie I love Stevie!
