Re: September 2020 FET

  • @emilynoel810 I’m taking Diclegis DR 10-10 mg which is delayed released vitamin B6 + Doxylamine (10mg each). It definitely helps, without it I can only feel nausea and no desire for food at all. With it (1 pill before bed 1 when I wake up) I can eat very well and work effectively during the day. That’s why I’m back on it this week.

I do feel hungry sometimes around midnight too, but I’m too lazy to get up and get a snack. What do you eat at that time?

@FuzzyDust I feel you, I’m also more keen on pickled stuff, lemon water or salad with vinaigrette, anything that’s sour to taste.
  • Loading the player...
  • @emilynoel810 I haven’t, I’m already on a b-complex vitamin and haven’t bothered to ask for more. It’s not fun, but I have a fast metabolism anyway so my guess is it’s more food quantity/timing related than not.

@FuzzyDust glad you’re starting to feel better! Are you still on anything else or was the estrogen your last supplement? I stop progesterone Friday and I’m both nervous and excited.

@crazyladywithacat lately it’s been a piece of cheese and some orange juice. Hits the spot and tides me over until the morning.

@halfanewt - I'm on progesterone suppositories (Crinone) till 12w, so just a couple of weeks left. I'm doing 2/day this week, and planning to taper down to 1/day next week before I stop. So ready to be done!
I wonder if they let you stop progesterone earlier because you did a natural transfer (so you have "corpus luteum"), or because you're doing PIO and not suppositories (lingers in body much longer). I did PIO with my last pregnancy and stopped by 10 weeks too.

  • I stopped at 8 weeks... it was a fresh embryo transfer tho. It feels good to be off it tho, you will be there soon. What’s PIO
  • @FuzzyDust I’m on endometrin (also a suppository) and I stop cold turkey, no tapering. Or as my nurse said - not frozen, but invisible, since the placenta has taken over by this point. I laughed hard at that one. Did the same thing with my fresh transfer two years ago. It went fine last time, but it’s still weird to just stop.

@crazyladywithacat PIO = progesterone in oil. It’s the shot version. I’m glad I didn’t have to do that one!
  • Went in to do my 12 weeks ultrasound today, so happy to see that little human moving and stretching on the black and white screen. Heartbeat 173, everything’s looks good so far but will wait for Tuesday to hear from my doctor for sure. Gonna have a second attempt to be off my meds again this weekend see if my nausea is better.

    hows everyone doing
  • @crazyladywithacat yay for the 12 week scan! How’d your nausea do this weekend?

I have my next appointment this Thursday (finally!) and I’m excited to see the little one again :) my morning nausea is getting better, but evenings are rough. It’s a weird shift.
  • I’m off meds now and I’m doing better, I’m also at my worst in the evenings now, not too bad so hopefully it’s over soon.

The doctor say my fetal heartbeat is 171 a little high so I’m a little concerned, otherwise everything looks good.

@halfanewt Sending positive vibes for Thursday, nothing beats seeing that little person stretching inside you.
  • @crazyladywithacat - congrats on a good scan! I think 171 is still a good rate, even if it's a little on the high side. Maybe it was just something you ate before the appointment that got baby a bit more excited :)
Hope getting off the meds goes well this time!

@halfanewt - good luck with the appointment! Mine is next Thu - can't wait!

Question - at 12w appointments, do you get an abdominal, or vaginal ultrasound? I'm pretty sure mine is supposed to be vaginal, but now I hear that most people claim theirs was abdominal.

I finally broke down and ordered some Unisom to try - will take half a pill (12.5mg) tonight to see if it makes me feel any better tomorrow. I'm just so tired of being totally disabled by the afternoon, feeling like I have a hangover. I tried B6 (Preggie Pop Drops), but they do nothing, maybe even make is worse.

Also, I'm down to 1 progesterone suppository per day and planning to be all done this week - woo-hoo!

  • @FuzzyDust my 12 weeks US is abdominal, they didn’t even ask me to come in with full bladder. It was very easy. Hopefully unisom works for you, the meds worked wonder for me. These 2 days weren’t bad so I think I’m not gonna take it anymore.

  • @crazyladywithacat - interesting! if no full bladder is needed, I guess it doesn't really matter, since no prep required :)

Unisom definitely made me sleep deeper, but a bit groggy in the morning. I still do have the "hangover" feeling, about the same as before, but one huge change I noticed this morning - no gagging reflex while brushing teeth! I actually managed to brush for the full 2 minutes for the first time in a long time!

  • Had my first midwife appointment today and they did an US. So cool to actually see the little head and arms wiggling around! HR at 160 and everything looked good! Now I don’t go back until mid December, though I think I have a NIPT blood draw and NT scan between now and then. Will need to refresh myself on when all these happen.

@crazyladywithacat glad you’re starting to feel better!

@FuzzyDust my US today (just shy of 11 weeks) was abdominal and they could see everything and hear the heartbeat. A random one to try if you haven’t yet for nausea - starburst have actually been helping me a lot. Thank you, leftover Halloween candy!

  • @FuzzyDust seriously what’s with the teeth brushing. I still gag during that, haven’t really brush my teeth well lately.

@halfanewt Glad to hear everything is good! They measured it for NT when they did my ultrasound and they took the blood for NIPT at my 12 weeks appointment. 1-2 weeks wait for the result and I want to know the baby’s gender. I forgot if you guys knew already did you do the genetic testing embryo transfer.
  • @halfanewt - so happy your check-up went well! I'll have to try starburst, I actually have some from the Halloween stash - thanks for the tip!

@crazyladywithacat - good luck with the NIPT results! Hope they come back quickly.
We already knew our embryo gender (female) at the transfer, since we did PGS. We actually were allowed to do gender selection because we had enough good embryos and already have one child.

  • So they actually had me do the NIPT draw today (11 weeks) and back in for the NT scan on 11/30. Luckily we’re about 10 minutes from their offices!

We’re team green (and were with DS, too) so we just don’t open the results once we get them back. It’s pretty tempting knowing they’re sitting there, but it’s a fun surprise at the end. At least it was last time :)
  • My husband has no preference but I wanted to know. I like to plan thing ahead of time and he is more spontaneous I guess that’s why. I wanted to know so I can start decorating the room. We also only have a girl’s name settled so if it’s a boy we need to start thinking about that.

I have 7 embryos frozen, I’m wondering how harmful would it be to do the testing to select the next child’s gender. I know it’s possible but it requires thawing and refreezing then thawing again so I’m not sure if it’s too much. I do want 1 boy and 1 girl if possible
  • @halfanewt - yay team green! I've never had the patience  :D
Can you just ask to mask away gender in NIPT report? I assume you still want to see the rest of the info, just not the gender. Or does it come separately?

    @crazyladywithacat - I'm excited  to find our who you're having too :)
Do you only want 2 kids? if you have 7 embryos and only want one additional child, I think it'd be pretty safe to thaw, biopsy, and re-freeze. The usual thaw survival rate is about 95%, so you're likely to have them all make it through, or maybe loose 1 in the process of thawing each twice. But again, it's expensive and depends on how much you care about having both genders.

I always wanted a girl and a boy (plus, I had a girl name ready since I was 19, and my husband has always had a boy's name in mind too). So after having a boy, we selected a female embryo. Although the decision of doing PGS was not due to gender knowledge, but rather because of fear of a mischarge or a birth defect (since I'm older), gender was just an added bonus. And even though it was by choice, I'm already mourning my kids not having a same-gender sibling, as we only want 2 kids. We get what we want as parents, but I saw the special bond same-gendered siblings make, and I'll miss that for my kids.

  • That’s a fair point. Yes we want max 2. Maybe the same gender wouldn’t be the worst thing and it’s kind of fun to be surprised which I would be having. my husband’s best friend just told us they are expecting too, a boy, 2 months ahead of us. So excited to know someone we know is having kids at the same time. You both are already experienced but I’m still making a list of what I will need to buy in 6 months
  • @FuzzyDust apparently you can’t mask it, which is weird to me. The midwives warned me about 10 times to not open the test results (they automatically upload to the portal) and that they would read them and give us the report. That said, I’m assuming we’ll have another boy. DH is one of 5 boys, and of all of the 7 cousins (my DS + 6 between 2 other brothers) there’s only 1 girl. Their Y swimmers are strong, apparently. That said, we still have 2 girl names picked and struggled to find a name for DS 😆

@crazyladywithacat so cool that you’ll have a built in friend for your kiddo and someone to talk to in person about baby stuff! My friends are all a year(ish) ahead or behind us for kiddo ages, so we’ve had to make new parent friends. Luckily we found a few pre-covid!
  • 4 weeks is too loooooong! How do I know my baby is ok? How do you guys stay patient
  • I finally had my 12w NT scan appointment today! I've been having nagging cramping since stopping progesterone almost a week ago and was worried about the baby. But all looks perfect! Measuring exactly per my date - 12w4d, NT looks beautiful, HR 154, and lots of wiggles on the ultrasound :) It was an abdominal ultrasound, and apparently I was supposed to drink lots of liquids (which nobody told me), but they still made it work (with lots of pressure, ouch!)
I was also told to take daily aspiring till 37w for preeclampsia prevention. I had pre-preeclampsia with my first pregnancy + I'm over 35, so considered a risk group.

With this good scan, we're planning to announce on FB at Thanksgiving :) I know hubby can't wait!

Now on the wait till 16w  appointment(and there will be no ultrasound, just a doppler there).

@crazyladywithacat , exactly, 4 weeks is a LONG TIME! Although I noticed that with less regular checkups I actually do calm down more in between.
That's so awesome that you have a friend with a close due date!!! It really helps to have friends who're going through similar experience. With my first pregnancy, we had a group of 4 couples (hubby's close friends circle) all due within 4 month of each other. We didn't communicate as much during pregnancy, but we had amazing middle-of-the-night-time "who's up feeding the baby?" text conversations once all the babies were born :D And this time around one of them is transferring her embryo today! I'm really hoping it takes, as we'll be almost exactly 10w apart.

@halfanewt, that's so funny about the Y-swimmers  :D In my friends circle, everyone has boys only! My brother has 2 boys too. After my first IVF all 3 blasts were boys (1 was abnormal, 1 is a baby now, 1 didn't take). So when we got results from the second round of IVF and found out that there are both boys and girls, we were totally surprised, as we assumed that it's just all Y-swimmers only for all right now  :D Maybe you'll get a surprise girl in there too  ;)

  • It’s a boy. We are happy to find out and both realized how much we had hoped for a girl. Now it’s time to search for a boy’s name. Y swimmers are still going strong in the our family too! Now we probably want to do the genetic testing for the 7 frozen embryos we have.
  • @FuzzyDust yay for a good scan! And so fun to announce! Are you doing anything fancy or just telling people?

For my curiosity - Does the PGS testing replace the NIPT but not the NT scan or did you just do the NT because you could? I did both (NIPT and NT) with DS and will again with this one, but some folks in my BMB are just doing NIPT. Also for my curiosity, does that mean you’ll deliver at 37 weeks or does it not make much difference from there to the end?

@crazyladywithacat congrats!!! Baby boys are fun 😊 good luck with the name search. Boys names are so hard, I swear. We have a couple contenders this time already, but the one I like is apparently trending popular (boo) so that’s turning DH off. The one he likes is definitely not a popular one, but may be a bit too out there for me. We’ll see.

Got my NIPT results back today...and it’s a baby! Haha, sorry. Team green makes that reveal less dramatic, but all checked out normal, so we’re excited!
  • @halfanewt Thanks! It is hard. We are in the same boat, definitely don’t want anything popular. yay on the great result, hope you next appointment comes fast.

I finally bought a Doppler hoping to listen to the heartbeat at home whenever I feel worried. Hopefully it works. I also gained a lot of weight 7-9 pounds and I’m approaching 15 weeks. I think that’s a lot. How are you guys doing?
  • @crazyladywithacat, congrats on a boy! Boys are really amazing! And if you really want one of each, you still have an option to test the rest of your embies :) it’s so nice to have options, one of rare treats of infertility.
I’m curious if you got the Doppler to work. I don’t want to buy one because I’m afraid of not being able to find the heartbeat and stress out more. I kinda fell into this “trust your fetus” mode between the appointments, which is nice.
7-9 pounds by 15 weeks doesn’t sound bad! What does your doctor say? I lost lots of weight when I was pregnant the first time, and it’s going in a similar way again (14w, lost about 9lb). But it’s definitely not the usual for most people. With my first pregnancy my OB was a little concerned, but since that turned out just fine, she’s totally ok with me losing weight now, since it seems that it’s just what my body does, and doesn’t hurt the baby.

@halfanewt, congrats on the healthy NIPT!!
I did NT just because I wanted an extra ultrasound :) NIPT and PGS are a little redundant. They are not 100% same, but close enough that I didn’t feel the need to do both.
taking aspirin till 37w hopefully means that I don’t get preeclampsia this time and get to go as close as my due date as possible. Some OB prefer to prescribe it till delivery, but it also can increase the bleeding during the delivery (as it’s a blood thinner), so I stop earlier to minimize the risk. I guess we’ll see how that goes!

  • @fuzzydust losing 9lb?! I guess everyone reacts differently. I also have to thank the pills since my weight did go down (1-2 lb) the days I’m taking them earlier weeks. I wonder if it’s just water weight since I couldn’t really drink much fluids. I think I got a heartbeat  at 153? I know a lot of websites say that you could mistakenly pick up blood vessels sound or umbilical cord sounds but it was fun, and I tried on myself too was a better sound, maybe it would become clearer when the baby is bigger?

my next appointment is Friday, I will ask my doctor about the weight gain but the scale in the hospital have my weight all over the place even tho I already try to dress the same each time. I also have another concern I don’t know if you guys are familiar with incompetent cervix. I had a cone biopsy before and that gives me higher risks of having an incompetent cervix which contributed 25% of second trimester miscarriage so I’m just so worried all the time. And there is no symptoms for that.

    @crazyladywithacat
That sounds fun that you were able to find the heartbeat! It should def get easier as the baby grows!
I've heard of incompetent cervix. From my understanding, if you're a high risk, you can do cervical cerclage procedure to stich it up before 24 months, and then remove the stitches a month before the due date. I know a few women in my birth month FB group who did that, and they say it wasn't too bad. Maybe something to discuss with you doctor?
I've also had the cone biopsy (LEEP procedure) done about 1.5 years ago. My OB haven't mentioned anything about that with regard to this pregnancy, but I remember that with my first pregnancy she said I have "a cervix that goes forever"
:D, so my hope is that the procedure didn't affect it that much. I guess I'll know more next time they do ultrasound where they actually measure the placenta placement and the cervix length (I don't think I had it done yet at any previous appointments).

  • That’s good to know that your procedure didn’t affect much. I will ask my doctor this Friday see what she suggests, maybe I can get an ultrasound just to look at the length of the cervix before the 20 weeks one. My procedure was 6 years ago I don’t know if that would help in anyway.

  • @FuzzyDust thanks for answering all my random questions. Bodies are so strange and I now that I’ve been on this IF journey I’m just extra curious about all of it.

@crazyladywithacat I think that level of weight gain is fine, and I think I’m in a similar range. With DS I gained about that much in 1st tri, then slowed down in 2nd. Ended up gaining the 25-30 pounds by the end. I wouldn’t worry about it unless your doc brings it up 🤷‍♀️

NT scan today and it came back all clear! Bebe was rolling all around and doing headstands, lol. Took them forever to get the right angle for the measurements. They measured my cervix in today’s appointment - they might have already done yours and just not mentioned it! I had an intern at my exam and she was explaining everything, it was great.
  • They didn’t measure my cervix length at my NT. I went to my 16 weeks appointment yesterday and mentioned my concern. The doctor looked and felt it and said it’s closed and it felt long but she ordered an ultrasound on Monday to measure it just to make sure. So hopefully it’s all good.

And the weight gain I’m definitely ahead. She said she expected 10 pounds by week 20 and I gained 11 by week 16. I just need to slow down  :/
  • @halfanewt are you taking baby aspirin? All my friends are taking it, but doctor didn’t ask me to
  • @crazyladywithacat no baby aspirin for me. If your doc didn’t advise, I wouldn’t take it. It can help with certain clotting disorders and they will often prescribe if you’ve had *TW* miscarriages in the past *end TW* but otherwise it is a blood thinner and can add its own complications from that end.

As far as weight gain, FWIW my body naturally slowed weight gain in 2nd tri once the crazy hunger/nausea of 1st tri settled down. Hopefully it’s the same for you!

AFM - officially in 2nd tri! Woohoo! Starting to get some energy back and be able to get stuff done around the house. It’s nice! How are you both feeling?
  • @halfanewt - congrats on the second trimester!

I'm 15w4d today, and finally have my next appointment coming next Tuesday. Can't wait! I won't have an US, but they'll do all the measurements + doppler, so at least I'll get to hear the heartbeat to get the reassurance that all is well.
I'm definitely popping much sooner than with my first. And I think I've started gaining weight now, just hoping it won't pack on too fast. I'm feeling better in terms of nausea, but worse in terms of physical discomfort. Nothing too bad yet, so hopeful to have an easier time for few months. Maybe even finally start exercising... a girl can dream  :D
I'm going on vacation stating Monday until the New Year! Maybe I'll finally get to go through my first baby's clothes and sort out what to keep and what to donate (first is a boy, this is a girl). Just looking for some quality "me" time in the next few weeks, while there is no work, and our toddler is in the daycare.

Hope everyone is planning some relaxing time before the New Year!

  • How is everyone doing?

I'm 17w1d today, feeling much better now than the first trimester for sure! Had my appointment last week - all is well, no US, but they did doppler (HB: 152bpm), so that was reassuring. Next appointment is anatomy scan and baby heart echo at 20 weeks in mid-Jan - should be pretty exciting, going to MFM clinic for that. DH said that he'll most likely be able to come with me! that would be first time he'd go for an appointment with me for this pregnancy.

As planned, I started swimming last week. Our pool allows 10 people at a time, and you have to sign up for a specific hour 2 days in advance, but I'm so happy to have this option. While in water, I don't feel pregnant at all! Not sure how I'll be able to keep it up once I have to go back to work in Jan, but I want to keep going at least once a week, ideally 2-3 times. Hoping it'll help with the back pain in the long run  :#

Besides swimming, I'm a total couch potato. I had this long list of things to do on vacation (started last week), and did non of it. Instead, I lounged on a couch and read 3 books  :D But I feel that I need this slow relaxing time, so no regrets.

Hope everyone is having good holidays and progressing nicely with the pregnancies  <3

  • Hi ladies!

Happy 2nd trimester! Glad to hear everyone is doing well. My anatomy scan is in 10 days I’m looking forward to it and my DH can come with me. I finally off the nausea meds now ( I know 3rd time is the charm). I still feel nauseous from time to time especially before meal but I haven’t taken it for more than 1 week now so I’m staying strong!

@FuzzyDust Swimming is my only sport too! My local Y is great during Covid, you reserve a lane for yourself! But I haven’t gone since I got pregnant, im too afraid that is too cold for my baby and I don’t have motivation when we are buried under a 14 inch of snow. Glad to hear you enjoyed it and hope you can keep doing it. I’ve been meaning to try prenatal yoga tho.
My work has been so busy but I’ve been wfh entirely for the last month. I’m more and more nervous about telling my team since I’m taking a huge responsibility now.

Have you started feeling the baby kicks yet? I heard it’s easier to notice for 2nd child. I haven’t really felt anything yet. I bought a lot of baby stuff already, mainly big ticket items, I know it’s a bit early but just can’t wait.

Hope you both have a wonderful holiday season!
  • Happy holidays to you both!

@FuzzyDust you’re lucky that DH can likely come to that appointment with you! My AS is Jan, too, and it’s likely no visitors. When I went in for the NT scan they wouldn’t let me take a photo and their printer was out of ink so they couldn’t give me a photo! Poor DH hasn’t seen anything since maybe 11 weeks? The midwives at least let me record the heartbeat for him at my last visit!

@crazyladywithacat yay for being off nausea meds! I felt some pretty definite movement in the last week (17 weeks) but I think it was about 4.5-5 months in before I felt anything for sure with DS. If you have an anterior placenta it can take longer to feel anything, too. Did you hit the Black Friday sales for the big ticket stuff?

I’ve not been great about working out lately, either. Got out of the running groove in first tri and now I do t really want to start it back up in the cold. DH got a lightweight rowing machine for Christmas, so I’ve been using that the last few days. Hoping that can continue!
  • 20 weeks today! Half way there. I started feeling kicks which are amazing! My DH can feel it too. Did my anatomy scan on Wednesday, my DH wasn’t allowed to join me. :( everything looked good but they couldn’t get a good image of the spine so I’m going back in 2 weeks. I wouldn’t mind go and see my baby again. They also scheduled another heart scan and a 32 weeks ultrasound because I had IVF. I don’t know if you guys have those too.

@halfanewt I did hit the Black Friday sale - the main reason I pulled the trigger. It was a little early but it feels good to have the nursery mostly set up (furniture wise). Hope rowing machine is working out. And how can they run out of ink! That sucks. I got a profile pics this time. My DH very proudly announced that the baby has got his nose after seeing those.

    Hope everything is going well!
  • Happy New Year!!!

@crazyladywithacat - congrats on the half-baked status!!! So awesome you can feel the kicks and that your DH can actually feel it too! I felt my first baby very definitely around 18w, but this one seems to be taking longer (just very occasional flutters), might be a different placenta location.

I have both the anatomy scan and the baby heard echo on Jan 13th. I think the echo is recommended to all the IVF patience. That's the only appointment I have to go to MFM clinic to do.

@halfanewt - I'm also curious if the rowing machine is working out for you :)

I only went to swim once a week over the holidays due to limited days the Y opened. So hopeful I can keep going now that I'm back to work. I signed up for a Wed morning, so we'll see if that works out and if I can still be at my desk at the reasonable time afterwards.

Being back to work is weird... I want more vacation! Maybe I'm ready to retire... emotionally... not even close financially yet though  :s

I'll be half-baked this Sunday. Today I suddenly had a very sharp lower back pain that isn't going away. Wasn't ready for such intense things yet. hoping it'll go away soon, I'm not ready to feel all the pains till later in the 3rd trimester  :#

  • @FuzzyDust oh no I hope you will feel better. Do you know the cause of it? I also need to go to a different place for the heart echo.

I finally told my manager and he was very supportive. phew. Still need to tell the big boss but my manager assured me the team is very family oriented and he will certainly be very happy for me. I’m so relieved.

One of my close friends just had a baby boy today. So many babies around me. I was told babies during Covid time is gonna be called coronials Lol
  • @crazyladywithacat - thanks, it's slowly going away. I think I pulled something in my spine. Stretching helped a bit. It was just so sudden and intense, got me scared for a while. Maybe I need to add a stretching routine to my every day to help prevent such things.

So happy to hear your manager is supportive, and sounds like your big boss is likely to be supportive too! That's really awesome, having a family-oriented work place is so important!

Coronials, LOL  :D What I heard that is they'll be called Quaranteens (once they are teens)  :D
