Re: September 2020 FET

  • @halfanewt def good sign! I know it's weird but every time I feel nauseous I'm also slightly glad that it happens. I just have to hide it when I'm in the office which is the hard part.

  • I just came back from my first ultrasound (6w4d) - babe is measuring on track, heartbeat 120  <3 I'm sooooo relieved!!! That little heart flicker on the screen almost brought me to tears.

They want to do a repeat US 1-3 weeks from now, at which point I'll graduate from RE! They already told me go to register the pregnancy with OB, which I did, so I'm going to see my OB clinic on Oct 19th, which might end up being even earlier than my RE graduation   :D

  • Great news! congrats! wow you can see heartbeat that early?! was amazing seeing that little flicker on screen. you are so on top of things. I haven't made my appointment with OB yet, they won't give me a date before receiving IVF records.
  • @crazyladywithacat , I know! it's crazy how fast the little bean develops! I was actually assuming that my OB will also require me to graduate first, but I think they don't care as much, as they are in the same building, so they probably share the records very fast and easy.

  • @FuzzyDust yay! that’s so exciting! So glad they could get you in early and everything looks good :) funny that they’ll let you do an OB appointment before graduating. Do you know when your next RE US is?
  • @halfanewt they want me to do the final RE US with my primary doctor, but his schedule is being changed right now, so they don't have his calendar yet. Honestly, I hope it's about a week after my OB one, so that I have something every 1-1.5 weeks planned for the near future  :D
How are you feeling? Excited about US next week?

I wasn't planning to tell my work till maybe December, but ended up talking to my manager about it today. I'm having pretty hard time physically and mentally (my ability to focus is non-existent), so I wanted to make sure he's not thinking I'm being lazy. It actually was a great conversation! He has 2 kids, and he really does want his team to succeed as people. He didn't notice anything (benefits of working remotely right now), but really appreciated an early heads up :)

  • so great to hear. I'm planning to tell my manager in January if I can hold that long. As I'm new to this job I have so much to learn and really need to prove myself first. My manager is my age, has 2 kids I think he would understand. I think nowadays any human should understand. I'm just nervous that I'm gonna create inconvenience to the team because They are slowing handing over a project that I'm supposed to manage then I will be off for a while when I'm finally full speed. I'm trying to avoid thinking about it now really.

Also, I don't think I'm eligible for my company parental leave which requires 1 full year service.... trying to avoid thinking about that too...   :s
  • @FuzzyDust that would so nice if the timing works out! Lots of checkins on babe :) I'm glad your manager was so supportive!

Thanks for asking - I’m 6 weeks today and the nausea has hit in full force. Woke me up last night it was so bad! Lots of tea and graham crackers today... I’m feeling very impatient for next week. US is in the afternoon since my 1st has the 2 year visit in the morning. It’ll be an exciting day!

@crazyladywithacat you can totally hold out until January if you want to. With my first, I told my boss when I was a little over 6 months - And he hadn’t even noticed, lol.

It’ll be interesting to see when I need to tell this time. Planning on January-ish as well, but I’m a teacher and right now we’re fully remote, so it’s all good. If they try to go back in person, though, I’ll definitely have to say something sooner, because no, thank you, to that exposure risk!
  • @crazyladywithacat - sounds like your manager is also of the family understanding kind. Sorry about the parental leave requirements (that's what held me at the same job when I was trying for my first - I wanted the full leave) :( In my state all employees are required to provide at least 12 weeks, so hopefully you can get at least that at where you live.

@halfanewt - ouch for the nausea hitting you. Every time I tell my DH that I feel sick, he says "excellent!", since it's a reassurance that the babe is doing well  :D Silver lining, eh  :D Hope the time between now and the US goes fast for you!
My teacher husband highly doubts that any schools here will go back to in-person learning before the end of this school year. He's already thinking about how it can possible work to have a remote substitute teacher for when he wants to take a leave before the school year ends  :#

  • @FuzzyDust my DH is the same. “Sorry you don’t feel good, but yay!” I get it. I feel the same way :) I doubt we’ll go back, honestly, or it won’t be for long if we do, but my district keeps talking about hybrid plans (with no timeframe) so who knows. We have a few folks out now/soon on leave with subs, so it’s totally doable, especially if he’s on a team that plans together!
  • @halfanewt 6 months! wow amazing. I mean I do want to inform them earlier so they can plan for it. just not too early like oh you just got here! So nice you can stay remote completely right now, I'm getting more days to be home now but I will still try to go in a couple days a week to get the face time. but there aren't many people in the office which is not too bad, just need to hide the nausea. Good luck with the US this afternoon!

@fuzzydust MA requires only 3 months and I believe for 8 weeks off, so I think i can get that. I'm not too worry about that right now. Of course getting paid time off is great but I'm very grateful for having a job right now so even a couple months unpaid is acceptable.

totally with you on the nausea thing, every time it hits me I'm glad even tho it's uncomfortable. Just one of those weird pregnant things I guess  ;)

first OB scheduled next Thursday, I will be almost 10 weeks then. excited!

    How are you ladies doing?
  • Congrats, @crazyladywithacat ! Just over a week to go!

I'm also eagerly awaiting my first OB appointment next Monday (I'll be 8w1d). But now I'm also worried if they are planning to do ultrasound or not - apparently not everyone gets one at first OB visit  :#
I also scheduled my last RE appointment (+ graduation) for the Monday after that (9w1d)!

Nausea is beating me up. I finally got Preggie Pop Drops that I've ordered over a week ago - just had one and it's noticeable helping! Let's see if that lasts, as each has 500% of daily B6 vitamin and I don't want to overdo it.

  • If it work magic maybe I should get some too (for my office) My nausea is not too bad now. I feel it right Before each meal replacing the feeling of hungry and doesn’t bother me when I eat. some smell will send me straight to the bathroom tho, like cat food, my freezer and some other random stuff. I think my mom had similar degree of nausea so I guess it shouldn’t get worse. She did say she couldn’t smell meat during the first trimester but I don’t have that problem.

I hope they will do an US on my first visit. It would have been 2 weeks since the last one. I feel like I need some assurance especially during the first trimester. Hope you will have one two. Nothing beats seeing that little one on screen.
  • @crazyladywithacat so exciting! I feel like they’d do an US if you asked, even if they weren’t planning on it. I know with my first they were willing, but their equipment wasn’t as good as the REs. Don’t be surprised if it’s not as clear!

I’m with you on the nausea thing, especially before meals. And what is it about the smell of cat food? Yuck! I’ve found homemade lemonade (with honey) helps a lot. Random, but I’ll take it.

@FuzzyDust that timing worked out awesome! Glad you’ll get a check on little one 2 weeks in a row!

Keep us posted on the preggie pops. Didn’t realize they had that much vitamin B. I’m already on a b-complex - o wonder if that’s helping?

Still waiting for my first US on Friday! I’ll be 7 weeks. Is it Friday, yet?
  • Just talked to the nurse, I won’t have an US at my appointment next Thursday. Disappointing. I will schedule my next US at my appointment tho, who knows when that would be. Can they still hear the heartbeat or do anything to confirm the ongoing pregnancy?
  • @crazyladywithacat - sorry about the no-US news :( I’m a little worried that my Monday appointment will be like that too 😬 they might still use a Doppler to try to hear the heartbeat! Al least ask them about it.

@halfanewt - best of luck today!!! Really looking forward to hearing about how your US goes!

  • US went great! Measuring on track, heartbeat 152, and the yolk sac was right on top so the US images look like little one is wearing a halo. Awww. Or standing on one. Not entirely sure of that orientation 🙃
  • congratulations! Mine was like that too, looked like the little one was sitting on a toilet  :D

I will definitely ask for Doppler to hear the heartbeat hopefully they can at least do that.
  • @halfanewt - yay for the baby doing great! So happy you got to see the little bean and measure great heartbeat! When is your next appointment?

I’m going for my first OB visit tomorrow, it’ll be 8w1d. Fingers crossed they do an ultrasound 🤞🏼 But even if they don’t, I’m definitely getting one the following week at my last RE visit 😁

nausea is getting worse (and it’s not just nausea, it’s this overall feeling of “unwell”, like a hangover), and I keep checking charts for when HCG is supposed to start dropping (and hopefully symptoms ease up) - depending on a data soured, it peaks around 8-10w, so sounds like I’m right in the heat of it right now 😬 Preggo Pop Drops taste nice, but I can’t tell if they really make any difference or not 🤷‍♀️

  • I’m 9w1d today. It’s getting worse definitely. I now have the nauseous feeling after eating food as well, just lingering around and I threw up for the first time. Yes the overall feeling of ‘unwell’. Saltine cracker is the only thing works right now but I can’t just keep eating it.
  • @crazyladywithacat, oh no, sorry you’re actually throwing up now! I wish I could do saltine crackers, and I’m seriously craving some rye bread! But I’m gluten-sensitive, so sticking to buckwheat crackers, which is definitely not the same 😬
One thing I found I can eat and actually enjoy - sauerkraut! The real fermented one, with just cabbage, salt and spices as ingredients. I even add it to soups to make them more appealing 😄

  • @FuzzyDust hope you get a US at your appointment tomorrow! Cool that you know you get one in a week, though!

They graduated me on Friday so I have no idea when my next appointment is. Definitely need to call and schedule that on Monday!

I should try sauerkraut, too- super tart homemade lemonade has been helping me so far!

@crazyladywithacat sorry you’re feeling so nauseous! I’m definitely there, too. I’ve found myself waking up to have a graham cracker at 5am then going back to sleep. Helps me make it through the morning! You should be at the peak of it now, though, so hopefully it gets better soon.
  • Oh interesting, I was into kimchi the other day probably similar. I read about it (I Google everything I eat now) eating some fermented food is good for building baby’s immune system- I hope it’s true.
  • Yay, they did do an ultrasound at OB office! They couldn't do the heartbeat measurements with their machine (doesn't have the function), but I saw it beating away on the screen  <3 Bebe measuring good, and I had to give a lot of blood for all the initial tests they do. Also got my flu vaccine while I was there, just so that I don't have to think about it anymore.
Next OB appointments are at 12w and then 16w, so it'll be longer stretches after my next week RE graduation.

@halfanewt - woo-hoo! Happy Graduation! Hopefully you'll get your first OB appointment figured out soon to!

This appointment made me think of something - it's hard to not know how the bebe is doing and wait long stretches between appointments, but it's also nerve-wrecking to have that initial moment on the US screen when you wonder if you'll see the heart beating again. So it's a Schrödinger's Baby! It's both doing great and not so great while we're not watching, so we can both enjoy and be worried, as whatever is happening isn't real until you actually take a peak  :D

  • Thanks for the heads up. I’m kinda afraid of needles now after IVF... especially after they tried 4 times to get the IV in my vein for my egg retrieval. It’s great knowing everything is good now and you are having another one again in a week. I really hope they can give me some prove that my little one is doing well on Thursday.
  • @FuzzyDust yay! Glad you got another US and bebe is doing well :)

@crazyladywithacat hope they can give you some reassurance Thursday and that if you get a blood draw, they’re good with needles!

Just scheduled my first appointment with the midwives...for Nov 12! So crazy to me that they book them out so far. She asked if I would be wanting an US at that appointment. Hahaha, yes! It’s definitely a bit of a switch going from the frequent RE appointments to the “normal” OB appointments.
  • @halfanewt yes, definitely a bit of culture shock, going from IF intensity of care, to "normal pregnant person," intensity of care. :). Enjoy the break and staying in the wondrous moments that are early pregnancy!  And you too, @FuzzyDust it's hard not to worry, but I hope you can enjoy it!  Don't let fear rob you of this special time. ❤️❤️❤️
  • Went to my first OB appointment today. Just answering a lot questions and getting a lot of information, plus blood work and urine sample. Didn't do an ultrasound or hear the heartbeat.  :( Scheduled the next appointment with ultrasound in 2 weeks (at 12 weeks) I guess I will just have to wait.

@halfanewt I can't believe you book so far out. just says they are great and popular!
  • @halfanewt - wow, that's a late first appointment! But I guess we better get used to long stretches of waiting after RE graduation.

@crazyladywithacat - sorry you didn't get to do the ultrasound. Hope the wait goes fast for you! It's interesting that you're afraid of needles after IVF, I'm a bit of the opposite - I was terrifies on needles, almost passed out every time I had to give blood. After IVF (2 of those + a childbirth), I'm still uncomfortable, but don't feel as my anxiety anymore. I don't wind myself up as I used to before the appointment, and just take it as it comes. During labor with my first, they tried to put in IV 4 times, and then finally called a baby nurse who is used to doing it on newborns, and she finally got the IV in. I was so happy that for the second egg retrieval they did an arm IV instead of hand, as it was so much easier to get in.

AFM, I've graduated from RE today at 9w1d. It was bitter-sweet. I love my RE clinic, had such a great experience with them (if IVF in general can be called "great experience" to begin with  :D ). They gave me a nice pregnancy book and a small present - a white rock with "believe" engraved on it. I also get to see my little gummy bear on ultrasound, and measure the heartbeat at 171BPM - so grateful!
Next OB appointment is Nov 19th, so it'll be a rather long stretch. But I trust my gummy bear to do the right thing  <3
Also, at my fist OB appointment they took urine sample and found GBS UTI, so I'm on antibiotics now (and would have to do antibiotics IV for the labor). I'm glad they caught it, as I didn't have any "usual" symptoms (like burning when peeing) and I attributed my cloudy pee to the mess from suppositories. I also feel like my "hangover" feeling got better since I started antibiotics, not sure if it's just the timing, or it actually was partially due to the UTI. I'm still nauseated, but definitely more functional now.

    Hope everyone is feeling well!

  • Congratulations! must feel so good to see your little gummy bear on the screen. yes, we need to get use to the longer stretches. I think once I know it's all going well at 12 weeks I will be less anxious and okay with longer stretch of not taking time off from work.

My nausea was quite bad last week and I couldn't even wear the mask without gagging so the doctor prescribed Diclegis DR 10-10mg to help me with the nausea and sleep. It works great. I take only 1 before bed and 1 when I wake up, I hardly feel nauseous at all. Sunday I felt great and ate way too much then I had a bloated stomach probably looked like  5 months pregnant for the rest of the day and night, so lesson learned...
  • @FuzzyDust congrats on your graduation! You must go to a different branch of the clinic than I do - I just got an air hug and a piece of paper 😂 your team sounds super sweet, though! Glad they caught the GBS - do you still have to do IV antibiotics during labor? Glad you’re starting to feel better, though.

@crazyladywithacat sorry you didn’t get to see/hear anything at your last appointment! Hopefully the wait until 12 weeks feels short for you. Glad you got your nausea under control!

I’m just chugging along. Trying to remind myself to drink more water and that nausea usually peaks at 9 weeks (this Friday for me). In the meantime, lots of small snacks all day and I’m accepting I won’t be very functional in the mornings.
  • @crazyladywithacat - wow, glad to hear the meds helped with the nausea for you! I'm just desperately hoping that it's at the worst right now for me and will only get better from now on  :s Masks are ok, but things like brushing teeth is a real struggle.

@halfanewt - I think I still need the IV antibiotics even if the UTI itself is treated, but they will do one more blood test for GBS closer to the labor to see if I still have it.
It's weird that different clinic branches have different process, I thought they were one big well-oiled machine  :D

I'm crazy craving cured meat right now. I don't actually know if I can stomach it, and I know I'm not supposed to eat it, but I can't help day-dreaming about a nice slice of prosciutto  :D

@halfanewt The ‘9+‘ week was the most difficult one for me before I started taking the pill. I will stop during the weekend see how I feel since I’m approaching 11 then. Thanks for the lemon honey water tip. I can drink more water now. The pill might have helped but I felt much better drinking lemon water.

@FuzzyDust What’s with the tooth brushing! I threw up twice both after brushing my teeth. Good that they caught the GBS and hope you will be rid of it soon.
  • @fuzzydust I thought so, too! Mine especially feels a little machine-like, but results are results 🤷‍♀️ Prosciutto is the best. As long as it’s heated, it’s fine, right?

@crazyladywithacat oh man, don’t bust my bubble! I guess it makes sense that the 9+ week is the full peak, but 🤢 Hope you’re over the worst of it and this weekend’s trail stop goes well
  • Mine was really like a factory line. I met my actual doctor maybe twice (virtually) at the very beginning to go over the plan and Probably because of Covid every time I call I don’t get to speak to a person (understaffed), either to report my pm day 1 or ask questions it’s always answering machine. A nurse will call me to tell me what injection I’m doing or when I’m going in. I feel like I’m just at home waiting for the call most of time and Every time I go in it would be different people in charge of different procedures and I was not informed before hand who is doing what. There wasn’t a graduation, after my extra sound at 7w3d they (a new person) just called me and said everything is fine you should start making appointments with your OB, bye! BUT, like you said, results are results

Hope your nausea is getting better and I really don’t want to burst your bubble, but... even with the pills I was feeling nauseous yesterday before bed and today at work before lunch time and in the afternoon. Maybe my body is getting use to the pills or my nausea was getting stronger. Anyways, I’m off the pill tonight and I’ll give you updates how I’m doing this weekend.
  • Hope you ladies are feeling fabulous, today is my day 2 off my meds for nausea and it’s not going well, I’m definitely nauseous and I threw up last night I’m back on it tonight and next week. Today I’m 11w1d  :s
  • @crazyladywithacat oh wow! Mine wasn’t that factory-like! What an interesting experience that must have been. Sorry your med-free trial didn’t work out, but I’m glad you have them to fall back on!

I’m still definitely nauseous and am now having to add in a small 3am snack or mornings are really rough. Knock on wood, that seems to be holding it steady, though.
  • @halfanewt and @crazyladywithacat Just curious, have you guys tried the Vitamin B6 + Unisom combo for your morning sickness?
  • @crazyladywithacat - ouch, sorry you're still feeling sick without the medicine! and your clinic description sounds rough, but you're right - results are results!

@halfanewt - wow, 3am snack! I can't imagine sacrificing my sleep for anything  :s  I actually feel fine in the mornings until I start eating, and then it's all downhill from there.

I'm 10w1d today, still feeling so nauseated and all the food aversions, but I'm also starting to get VERY HUNGRY. It's such a frustrating feeling, because I feel like I'm starving, yet nothing looks good to actually eat. Mushed potatoes + marinated veggies (sauerkraut, picked mushrooms, or such) seem to be the only consistently palatable choice right now.
Also, I finished a course of antibiotics for UTI, and also stopped estrogen 3 days ago, and it actually made me feel much better. Not sure of the antibiotics or no more estrogen is to thank, but the constant head fog is finally clearing.
