Re: The Great Question Thread

  • I was told last week to stop working and self quarantine at 36 wks,I felt that extreme and the fact that I have a c section means no work from last week of October to beginning of January,I’m self employed so we’ll see if I have a business left after that,I understand the importance but it does seem like a bit much to me,hopefully things get a bit better by delivery time.

Unfortunately FFCRA (the Covid relief fund) runs concurrently with FMLA so it's 12 weeks total, not in addition to FMLA. I actually had to talk about that because if I have to do a mandatory COVID quarantine due to exposure from one of my students they were trying to tell me they'd pay me out of FFCRA and I was like "HELL NO" I need my FMLA. Now the union is trying to work something out. I have all the sick time in the world (plenty to cover my maternity leave plus the three weeks before) but HR is very strict and says that as soon as I'm out for pregnancy it's FMLA. When I pushed back about PWFA she said it "may" be covered depending on the wording of my letter. So now I'm going to have to figure out what key words she needs my ob to include to get it PWFA covered. What a pain. Especially since it may not even be an issue if schools are closed again and I'm teaching remotely.

  • My place of birth has news coming to them if they think I'm being tested for no. apparent reason. Nor will I be wearing a mask once I am in my room. <------- This is my unpopular opinion of the week. 🤷‍♀️

  • Oh Boo!! @crizz13 That’s totally unfair! We probably all need to start pestering the legislators.
  • @crizz13   I hope you get it covered without going into your FMLA. It's so frustrating how it's so different depending on where you work. And the headache trying to get everything setup, like no one needs that additional stress.
  • @bserena Photos will range significantly, depending on your photographer. I had planned on using a photographer who would do a maternity shoot, and newborn photos for us, but scrapped that plan when I was laid off. What I was going to do instead, we take the pictures ourselves. We bought a new camera when we first found out we were expecting and DH has decent photography skills. Fortunately, one of my good friends is a professional photographer (works for Bobbi Brown) and offered to do both for us as a gift! I also second what @potofgolden said and make sure you factor in hair/makeup/clothing to your photography budget.
  • Asked MFM if there are any precautions or guidelines I need to follow regarding covid predelivery. Their answer was wear a mask, covid screening like everytime I go to appts, and a test if needed 🤷🏻

  • Are many providers suggesting self quarantine prior to delivery?  This is the first I am hearing of this! I haven't thought to ask my provider, but they have said anything either!
  • @teachingbp mine hasn't said anything about it, but I hadn't asked. I had already planned on it though once I hit 37 weeks or so!
  • I talked to my OB last month about when to go on mat leave and she said any time up until my due date... So I imagine there's no guidelines here. I'm planning on going on leave 2 weeks prior, and will pretty much be self isolating at that point.
  • @teachingbp  my doc says per CDC guidelines, they are pulling everyone out of work at 36 weeks with instructions to self quarantine so who knows! I have a feeling we will all be back on lockdown in our area by then anyway

  • Definitely @crizz13. I had a December baby last time, so we didn't go anywhere bc of cold/flu/rsv season. Will likely do the same this time, too!
  • @crizz13 such a great suggestion about asking the pediatrician. I have DS's 15 month appointment this month and am adding it to my list for his appointment.

I'm also curious about safety if someone has already had the virus (confirmed mild case) and are no longer taking precautions (not social distancing or wearing masks). How big of a risk is it to be around them. Or if someone tests positive for having antibodies. I feel like we don't know enough yet but I'm wondering if they are relatively safe to be around or if I should continue to follow the same precautions around them (i.e., they need to quarantine 2 weeks prior to meeting baby).
  • @kelk5 I am under the impression that you could just as easily get it a 2nd time.
  • @kelk5 I've heard conflicting reports about getting it a second time, vs. a relapse and being contagious months later. Definitely something to check with your provider about!

  • When are we switching to Facebook ladies?
  • @bserena I spent $250 on maternity photos with DS! We are always due for family photos in the fall so I'll probably just have our photographer (who is also a good friend) snap some shots of me and my belly! Ill probably do them at the beginning of August.

I plan on starting to self isolate around 37 weeks. DS's birthday is at the end of October so I think I'm going to throw his birthday party a week early so it isn't too close to the due date of this baby. Last I had talked to my OB she said that they test you upon arrival at the hospital. If you test positive they separate you from the L&D floor and recommend isolation from the baby for 14 days. You can obviously refuse but I don't want to take any chances.

  • @crizz13 I think that’s a great plan!
  • I’ve never been in a private group on the bump.
Will the format of the posts look the same?
Can it be used easily from a phone?

I lurked in October and September boards and they did it what seems like forever ago. And it got a little nasty.

  • @potofgolden I haven't either, but I believe it is formatted exactly like this, just you have to be a member of the group to access the posts. I have seen a lot of other BMBs go to a PG here first where everyone can verify that they are who they say they are and get a bit more comfortable before making the jump to FB. I also lurked the October and September moving threads, lol, and yes it got a bit tense!
  • I really dislike the bump honestly 😂
Nothing against anyone here it's the app/website itself. I find it annoying to navigate.
  • @crizz13 I like your plan and thanks for getting the poll started for us!
  • Also a FTM here, so not sure how the private bump groups work, but I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of the app!  I like the idea of a facebook group, but am happy to do whatever the group decides
  • I’m all about team FB because the bump app is awful and this mama ain’t got time for that! It’s soooo much easier to stay engaged and participate in a private FB group and I’ve really loved it with my 018 group! Alas, I’ll go with the flow - but I do hope the flow goes to FB 😂
